Jelena says:
Jelena’s shelter has now been able to send some dogs to Canada through the Canadian ambassadors wife in Belgrade, who is helping the dogs as much as she can.
The Ambassadors wife is unfortunately leaving the post in August. One of our dogs ‘Coco’ is going to Canada on Monday. It costs around 300 pounds to send a dog, and with help and support, more dogs could be sent. Please help to get more dogs sent to happy homes overseas by spreading the word about us and by giving whatever financial support you can. Jelena’s shelter has over 400 rescued street dogs under care, has to buy around 250 loaves of bread every day, which are mixed with meat, gravy and vegetables to provide a good daily meal for the dogs. They have this food five days a week and dry dog food the other two, so it an essential basic for them. But it all costs money; and your help would be greatly appreciated.
There is a lady in Canada, Mrs. Elizabeth Abbott, who has visited our shelter twice, and she connected with the organization Happy Tails and they are finding good homes for dogs.
So far we have sent from Nis in Serbia, one Black Labrador whose owners wanted to put him to sleep as he has hip dysplasia, but once in Canada he will have the operation, and also all four knees are not good. He has been adopted but the expensive operation will be paid for by the Lab Rescue Society.
We have other dogs at our shelter who are needing to find new homes overseas.
Below is a picture of Robi, who was left to die in the yard of his owners chained on 20cm long chain, with no food or water, and thousands of ticks all over him, and also a terrible wound the chain has made on his neck. Unfortunately no one will fine the owners of a dog like Robi, which is completely wrong.
We are just happy Robi is feeling better now he is under our care.
Robi at the shelter – Note the neck wound caused by the owners keeping him on such a very short chain
Also, we sent Pippin to Canada who is a very healthy little dog, as you can see from the photograph.
Any help and support in whatever way you can would be very much appreciated.
Thank You.
