** URGENT ** – Please Help Put Pressure on the Authorities to Save ‘Chhotu’ from the Gallows

Chhotu, a seven year old, Indian dog, who holds faithfulness and sincerity as first principles, has been marked for the gallows for his unwavering loyalty towards his owner Rajkumari Devi an ageing widow in her 70s.

Chhotu is the last and only line of defense standing between Rajkumari Devi and the villainous goons who eye her property, a strip of land less than a third of an acre holding an estimated worth of 9 lacs in the Tatma Toli neighborhood of Purnea district, Bihar

These miscreants have trespassed and broken into Rajkumari Devi’s house at the Bhatta Bazar area a number of times intending to burglar her property papers but on each occasion Chhotu has effectively foiled their attempts, and chased off the intruders with a bite to deter.

Rajkumari Devi is a widow and is subject to a range of fears, she leads a solitary life with no family of her own to watch over her, all she has got is Chhotu and he truly is this widow’s son and her survival song.

But all these miscreants who greed to seize her land have now deviously schemed to fail her hopes by fraudulently alleging Chhotu to be a “MAD DOG” and are hectically demanding death for him, the forethought behind this atrocious demand is to emotionally violate Rajkumari Devi and irrevocably cripple her morale since Chhotu hitherto had successfully restrained with a bark or a bite all intruding ruffians and threatened them to the point of retreat before they could pose any threat to Rajkumari Devi, without him she’ll be defenseless and susceptible to the deviltry of her tormentors. So hoping to reduce her to helplessness all these goons have teamed up and are vociferously baying for Chhotu’s blood.

Chhotu in the past has cheated death more than a few times, he has survived mob beatings and other attempts on his life including poisoning bids, fallacious FIRs and a “death sentence” but the gravity of the situation this time around Is more precarious than ever as the entire neighborhood is keenly contesting to encroach upon Rajkumari Devi’s land and are prompting the authorities to execute Chhotu.

Despite being poverty-stricken Rajkumari Devi has appointed Mr. Dilip Kumar Deepak, a local lawyer to plead Chhotu’s innocence in the court of law but regrettably he has been awarded the capital punishment again.

However a ray of hope surfaced last Thursday when Chhotu appeared before the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and was declared sound and stable after being observed for signs of aggressiveness and other behavioral aspects. As a matter of fact the juror was impressed to learn that every morning Chhotu leads the five goats of her mistress into the fields and then back safely herds them back home.

Chhotu has his final hearing scheduled on 5th August 2008 and if he fails to prove his innocence or falls short of getting his death sentence revoked then he will certainly be put down without any consideration, clearly the gallows are gaping for him and it wont come easy to establish his inoffensiveness when hordes of unscrupulous men in that courtroom will be making every bargain necessary to see him bite dust.

Even if the court annuls Chhotu’s death penalty, his sequence of grief won’t cease as the rival camp is all set to beseech the bench and demand his deportation to the pound if the verdict disfavors them. Once exiled to the pound Chhotu will surely succumb to his sorrow of separation or more tragically may fall victim to some kennel bound disease with sickness unto death, breathing his last in a squalid cage, densely colonized by ticks and coughing up his lungs. Coequally Rajkumari Devi would be mourning the loss of her child and be left vulnerable to the tyranny and intimidation of her vindictive neighborhood.

At this juncture prospects for Rajkumari Devi and Chhotu seem as dim as darkness but if you agree that Chhotu’s “Right to Life” shouldn’t be toppled by a bunch of goons then now is the chance to make your opinion count. All I ask of you is to pour out your thoughts on the following dignitaries and Head of Offices in Bihar, for they hold the key for averting this impending tragic

A call, an SMS or simply an e-mail from you to the concerned authorities can bring an unutterable respite to this ageing widow and her four-legged son.

Synchronously I’d also appeal to all who are considering writing or calling the following dignitaries, to be judicious and decorous with the authorities and only implore them for mediating, avoiding confrontation at all cost.

In addition making plentiful calls to the local media would persuade them to lengthily publish on this issue which can garner healthy sentiments in favor of Chhotu.

Remember Chhotu faces his “judgment day” on

5th August 2008 (coming Tuesday)

  1. We demand the authorities to save ‘Chhotu’ from the gallows! Please, please save this marvellos dog!
Please do not hang ‘Chhotu’ !

  2. Dogs job is it to watch out for its owner and owners job ist it to look for the healthy of its dog. It’s so easy. Let accept it!!

This woman is alone – they have just together!

    Regards

  3. I get it. They’re killing this poor soul for being a dog. Well, somebody needs to either inform the Chhotu he’s not a dog or explain to the authorities that this is a loyal dog and they’re born with this protective instinct.
Killing a dog because he’s a dog is all they’re up to.
Why don’t they go after the real criminals who have been terrorizing this poor woman?
Governments make no sense at all:(

  4. Dogs job is it to watch out for its owner and owners job ist it to look for the healthy of its dog.
I am a criple by human abuse because I live alone wish I had a dog lick this to protect me.

  5. Chhotu has only been protective of his master. They are the intruders/burglars, they need to be punished for treating this old lady in this way. The dog only did what comes naturally, looking out for his master. Dog must not be punished, he deserves a reward for taking care of property.

  6. Nothing to worry, the dog is healthy as per the reports of Vety. Doctors of Purania, reports has been sent to the Bihar Govt., everything will be good tomorrow.

  7. Please just do the right thing for this beautiful dog…
Thanks Naresh for your comment hon.
Many blessings for Chhotu who did the right thing, and what he was taught to do! Instinct, what a beautiful soul this animal has.

Peace in the Universe, and to all of our animals,
    FreeSpiritRunning…

  8. Horrible!!!That must be stoped!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. CHHOTU WAS ONLY DEFENDING HIS MOM–HE DOESN’T DESERVE TO DIE FOR THAT–WHERE IS YOUR PEOPLES COMPASSION?

  10. ANOTHER TRUELY SAD STORY,

I AM PRAYING TO GOD THAT THIS POOR CREATURE IS SAVED. HE DESERVES A LIFE OF CARE FOR WHAT HE HAS DONE. THE PEOPLE HARRASING THIS WIDOW SHOULD BE SENT TO THEIR DEATH INSTEAD. ANOTHER HUMAN ATROCITY TOWARDS ANIMALS. HOW ARROGANT , HOW DISPECABLE, HOW PATHETIC. I HOPE THE AUTHORITIES DO THE RIGHT THING FOR THIS WIDOW AND HER DOG CHHOTU.

WHAT DID MOHANDAS K. GANDI SAY

THE GREATNESS OF A NATION AND ITS MORAL PROGESS CAN BE JUDGED BY THE WAY ITS ANIMALS ARE TREATED

  11. Chhotu is doing his job proecting the widow from vandels. He wouldn’t need to be so alert if there were someone else there trying to help this woman. He loves her and protects her to the best of his ability and you want to punish him and the widow for him being A Dog!

  12. Leave this precious baby be! He deserves to stay where he is needed and loved.

  13. Please do not let the loyalty and care of this dog be his demise by those who are unscrupulous! They are only trying to have him killed so they can harm his owner the widow. He is doing what a dog should do! Protecting his person from harm. He loves her as he should by looking out for her. It is time to look out for him!! Protect them both! Let him go back home!!

  14. POOR CHHOTU !!! HOPE EVERYTHING GOES OK FOR BOTH !!!

  15. Chhotu is doing his job proecting the widow from vandels. He wouldn’t need to be so alert if there were someone else there trying to help this woman. He loves her and protects her to the best of his ability and you want to punish him and the widow for him being A Dog!

  16. someone needs to step in and stop the insanity, the rest of the world is watching to see how this is handled

  17. Justice will not be served unless Chhotu and the widow are helped by the authorities. Chhotu was protecting his owner. Please, save a devoted dog. Then punish the people who would want to hurt the elderly woman. Thank you.

  18. Please do not harm Chhotu. He is her “family” and doing a wonderful job of taking care of her. He deserves a medal for protecting his owner and her property. Who will BENEFIT by destroying him? Please, please do not harm this animal…….

  19. Please, justice for Chhotu and his master….

  20. Please, justice for Chhotu and his master….

  21. For pity’s sake leave this lady and her faithful friend alone. Life must be hard enough without constant persecution and the worry of the loss of her dog.
Have a heart! That is my message to those responsible for the decision of the life or death of this animal and the future happiness (what little there must be) of his owner. Do the right thing let the dog live and help this lady in any way you possibly can. PLEASE!!!

  22. Ya envié el mensaje por email a las autoridades, ojalá salven a Chhotu pues es lo único que le queda a la pobre señora, y ya anciana.Además le hicieron un chequeo y no dió positivo, salió que era un perro normal, NO AGRESIVO.

  23. Naresh, thank you for your reassurance that this loyal friend will be saved from murder.

I am amazed that this woman is under attack by her neighbors, who aim to steal her land! How is this permitted to go on? I’m an American, and I can’t fathom a living in a society in which this behavior is tolerated. Why don’t her neighbors come to her rescue? Surely not all of them are thieves. Surely somebody can make a stand on her behalf and let the thieves know that “this ain’t happenin’ in this neighborhood!”

And where are the authorities? Why haven’t these cowards been rounded up and charged with their crimes? As I said, I don’t comprehend a system that respects animals enough to give them a fair trial, and yet allows a bunch of rogues to terrorize a woman who is elderly and alone in the world, and who by her age alone should be granted a certain amount of respect from her community. I realize also that she may not be a person of sterling integrity, and I honestly know nothing about her, but if she is the legal owner of legally obtained real estate, she has the right to be there, and to exist, and to live in her home unmolested. My home is my sanctuary, the only place in the world where I can have the things I like and love around me for my enjoyment, and where I can retreat from the world and be alone, and have peace. Every human being needs sanctuary, which by definition is a place where one is safe from all threats without.

I will keep this woman and her wonderful dog in my prayers. It’s the only thing I can do to help them have peace in their lives. Fortunately, my prayers are turbo-charged and very effective, and I’m confident that my positive energy will add to the protection around them.

And let’s not forget that Naresh is there, and Naresh is a real, live angel living among us. Having him on your side looking out for you is a blessing of monumental stature. Chhotu is a very blessed beast to have Naresh checking on the process behind the scenes for him, and to have a devoted and loving “mother” like Rajkumari Devi.

I wish I could be there to stand up to those bullies. They are just wrong. I hope they’re prosecuted and convicted of ALL of their cowardly crimes.

  24. Please be conscious that Chhotu is only defending with his heart waht he loves. The ones that have to be judged are humans.

  25. IF ANY OF YOU HAVE A SOUL,YOU WIIL NOT HARM CHHOTU & YOU WILL ALLOW THIS WONDERFUL LADY TO KEEP HER BEST FRIEND & COMPANION, & WHATEVER EVIL YOU DO IN THIS WORLD, IT WILL COME BACK TO YOU, LEAVE THIS LADY & HER DOG ALONE !! NOW !! ONLY ASS HOLES HAVE THE TIME TO HARRASS A DOG & AN ELDERLY LADY, THIS LADY HAS THE RIGHT TO LIVE AS SHE CHOSES, SOOOOOO GET OFF HER BACK !! & TRY GETTING ON MINE !! YA WONT BE LUCKY, TRUST ME !!

  26. It beggars belief that the issue is why has Rajkumari Devi endured so much misery for such a long time without intervention – enter the dog! Chhotu, unlike his fellow human beings has followed his instincts to protect with no regard for his own life. Few people do this. His reward – enter the human – to be put down or removed from his owner. Ah yes, the common sense of man once again seems to prevail!

I urge anyone who has the say on this poor animal to let justice prevail and to let Chhotu live in peace with Rajkumari

  27. We are an English charity practically supporting the dog sanctuary in Nis, Serbia. We are building shelters and kennels, neutering, paying veterinary expenses and helping with food bills. WE NEED TO NEUTER MORE DOGS TO SAVE THEM FROM DYING ON THE STREETS.

    Please help!
