Still recovering from a gunshot blast to the chest, Warin Taphaothong would rather die than let the dogs go hungry. On the heels of yet another surgery to address deep infection, Warin is back at work. Today she wears a gentle smile and a light polka dot apron as she climbs onto her motorbike with a dozen magnificently large pots of food for the strays.

The wheels on the bike’s cart squeak and whistle under the weight of so much hot rice and chicken. Her sister Lem tries to stop the pots from tipping as the two disappear down the road. It won’t be long before the swarm of wagging tails emerge to greet them.

Last year, Warin was thrown to the ground by her brother-in-law Dom when she tried to protect her nephew from yet another beating. Enraged by her interference, Dom (who was a killer-for-hire) shot Warin in the chest. By some miracle the bullet veered away from Warin’s heart and instead went clear through her lung and into the ground below. Unconscious, Warin was rushed to a hospital in Bangkok while her brother-in-law began firing at the police who surrounded him. Dom took only a single bullet to the leg, but was never jailed.

After her long hospital stay, Warin agonized about the dogs. For years she had not only cared for the dogs at her sanctuary, but also in the community where she delivers food to street dogs and organizes spay/neuter projects, an unheard of ministry in Thailand. But for months after the shooting, Warin was unable to return to her sanctuary because Dom (unpunished for his crimes due to his political connections) remained free and steadfast in his vow to finish what he started. It was only after Dom’s unexpected and sudden death from cancer (perhaps a karmic slap) that Warin could return to the dogs who had lost so much during her absence.

Warin’s sister Lem and other volunteers had done what they could to feed and care for the dog’s during her Warin’s absence, but without the proper experience, they struggled greatly. Food shortages, disease outbreak and a major flood compounded the hardship at the rescue center. On top of that, the women were unable to settle the dogs who barked constantly, and consequently neighbors’ complaints have now forced the sanctuary to relocate.

“It’s going to take 1,000 hands to heal this situation,” Harmony Fund Vice President Daria Justyn said. “I look at this tiny woman and I see giant. She has such purpose, such a profound impact on the animals around her. We can’t count the number of animals who have benefited from Warin’s care and now it’s up to us to come together to help her carry on. We must set up shelters, fencing, utilities and bring in all the supplies needed to care for the animals in their new location.”

A parcel of land near the base of a mountain in a nearby area will become the new home to the sanctuary. It will have the capacity for electricity and city water, and Warin dares to dream of a proper kitchen to cook for the dogs. There is potential to create a sick bay for dogs who need to recover in isolation, and with no neighbors nearby, the dogs can be free to ‘speak’ as often as they’d like.

Romania: 26/12/13 Latest News – Donations and Adoptions Possible. Please Read On ….

RMNA0001

26/12/13 – latest news in from Romania.

Text has not been modified.

Dear friends,

I have some good news about this new law.

According to the law, now the distance adoption is available in public shelters. This mean that the city hall will fix an amount of money which the distance adopter will have to pay every month for the dog/dogs he adopted. If he miss to pay the monthly amount for 2 weeks after the deadline, that dog will be killed.

With your help Animals Voice want to distance adopt some dogs from the public shelter and give them the possibility to live more than 14 days.

Distance adoption cost around 40 euros/dog every month. In this way the dog will be moved from the commune enclosure (where he can stay with 7-8 other dogs) to a separate one with food, vaccination, neuter and medical care. In this way, by distance adoption we can stop the euthanasia of dogs and you will have a dog in Romania who will thank you for saving his life.

Let’s start the new year by saving some lives!

Donate for a distance adoption here and write on your donation “ADOPTION” :

****THIS DOG WAS SAVED FROM THE HORROR OF THE POZEGA TORTURE & KILL POUND****

JKP, Nas Dom (ironically translated to ‘Our Home’) is an infamous dog pound in Pozega, Serbia, referred to by activists as a dog concentration camp. It is funded by local government and dogs from 7 cities are caught and impounded within its walls to face unimaginable cruelty and death.

DOGS SUFFER THE INDESCRIBABLE AGONY OF STARVATION AT POZEGA – THEY ARE LITERALLY LEFT IN EMPTY CAGES WITHOUT FOOD TO SLOWLY STARVE TO DEATH.

The confusion, suffering and fear endured by these dogs is unimaginable. Many look like walking skeletons, some are too weak to lift their heads. Puppies die a slow and painful death while their emaciated and desperate mothers watch helplessly. Dogs cower in corners or curl into tight balls as they have no means to escape. Puppies eat their deceased litter mates in an attempt to stay alive. But those who do survive the starvation then face death through being beaten, strangled, or injected with T61 chemicals (without sedation or anaesthetic).

Even those rescued do not escape the torture. Before we can liberate a dog they are sterilised by an unqualified vet who butchers their bodies and sews them up with string instead of surgical thread. It is feared that no anaesthetic is used during surgeries. Many rescued dogs are on the brink of death due to the ruptures and infections caused by such procedures.

The alleged torture and abuse carried out by the Pozega staff is well documented and 17+ criminal charges have already been brought against the shelter, but still this facility operates and even now poor desperate animals are being caught and impounded within this death camp.

THESE ARE MAN’S BEST FRIENDS – LOYAL & LOVING
– BRUTALLY TORTURED & KILLED

Those impounded in Pozega are mainly street dogs, some were once cherished family pets now abandoned. Many of the recent rescues have serious health problems due to butchered sterilisations and untreated illnesses and infections. Some are fighting for their lives. From the 108 saved in the last 5 months, 11 have already lost the battle to survive since their release.

BELGRADE HUMANIMAL HAVE NOW RUN OUT OF FUNDS. WE CANNOT CARE FOR THE SURVIVING RESCUED DOGS WITHOUT DONATIONS.

Rescue costs include: Release fees, kennels or foster, additional food due to starvation, vet bills, including assessments, emergency operations, antibiotics etc., distemper serums, flea treatments, transport, inoculations & certifications.

WE CANNOT RESCUE ANYMORE DOGS UNTIL OUR DEBTS ARE PAID.
