Just a reminder to everyone, wherever you are, that Sunday 4th October (04/10/09) is ‘World Animals Day’.

A day to celebrate animal life in all its forms and to think again about the diverse and so important roles that all animals play in our daily lives.  Also a time to consider the wonderful achievements we have all made for global animal welfare issues during past years, and to give ourselves another surge of power to go out in the next year and go one step even further !

Whatever you are doing on the day, have a great time with all your animal pals. 

If you are able, please give a little of your time to suport animals on this day – a donation, signing petitions, writing a letter about an issue, fundraising, whatever !

Here are some pictures attached, taken by Ms Savitha Nagabhushan who was also instrumental in exposing the Bangalore killings a few years back.   The reaosn they are doing this is for TOURISM.   We had send them a legal notice a few days back but they impleade by saying that the SUPREME Court of India doesnt understand their practical problem with dogs before putting a stay on killing of dogs.

May I request all of you to write to the email ids given below and express your disgust and shock to their level of understandiung of the the law and valuse of life.

ALL FOREIGN NATIONALS may also include their disgust over killing dogs for tourism. You may also tell them that you shall boycott visiting Mysore when you come to India, because the municipal corporation of Mysore are a big black spot on this country of love, compassion and ahimsa.

More than 600 runners in gorilla costumes put a smile on the faces of Londoners on Saturday 26 September in the Great Gorilla Run 2009.

The run, in its seventh year, is one of the most popular annual events in the capital.

The run was started by children’s television presenter Helen Skelton, who says “I’d encourage anyone to support a charity that helps protect gorillas. It’s easy to take wildlife for granted, but we’ll regret that in the not too distant future if we don’t act now. This is a fun race that is entertaining to watch and even more so to take part in.”

Helen started the run along with intrepid gorilla-runner Rory Coleman who had run all the way to London from his home in Nottinghamshire in a gorilla suit. He arrived to a rapturous gorilla-welcome, and was at the front of the hundreds of other runners.

The quickest gorilla-runner completed the 7km course in just 34 minutes. The slowest was the UN Ambassador for the Year of the Gorilla, Ian Redmond, who walked on all-fours for most of the circuit and finished in just under two hours.

This year’s fundraisers have already raised more than £130, 000 (pounds) for The Gorilla Organization.

They will still be raising money until November.

The donations go towards community conservation projects in areas of precious gorilla habitat in Africa. Today gorillas are threatened, not due to a demand for their meat or their infants, but due to pressures on the lush forest where they live. For the poverty-stricken communities around the gorilla habitat, it is the forest that provides them with many of their fundamental human needs, but sadly, the collection of basic resources, such as water and firewood, is destroying the gorilla habitat and in turn the gorillas.

There are now only around 720 mountain gorillas left in the wild. Executive Director of The Gorilla Organization, Jillian Miller, says “The Great Gorilla Run is a fantastic way to raise money for the brave African conservationists and rangers who risk their lives protecting the gorillas so they will still be there for generations yet to come.”

by a group of tattooed motorcycle-riding tough guys on a mission to save
animals in danger. They call themselves Rescue Ink, and these are their
stories.

In a metropolitan area with more than 20 million residents, thousands of
animals — dogs, cats, and even chickens and piranhas — are neglected,
abused, hoarded or housed illegally. A few years ago, eight tough guys
from the mean streets, who frequented hot rod shows and tattoo parlors,
discovered their strongest bond was actually a passion for animals — and
they formed a rescue organization like no other. Some have violent and
turbulent pasts, complete with run-ins with the law, but all are seeking
redemption and solace in their mission to save animals from human abuse.

This new weekly series that documents this unlikely group of animal
activists on their crusade to save helpless, abandoned and abused animals.

The eclectic band of brothers — composed of club bouncers, security guards
and even a retired New York Police Department (NYPD) detective — is on

Thanks to all who have left comments regarding Morocco on this site; they are all read.   Please, we have to say, and STRESS that there are some wonderful people and groups in Morocco who are doing everything they possibly can to help improve the daily lives of all animals.  This is where we have to help them and give our support.

The quickest and easiest way to start is by signing the petition detailed in the text of this post.  At least 15,000 SIGNATURES ARE NEEDED in order for this message to really be hammered home to the authorities.  This is where we ask you please to spread the petition to all, to the Moon and back.  Then with masses of (International) signatures to be presented to the authorities, we can begin to hope for a new dawn for animals in Morocco.
