Romania: THESE DOGS ARE STILL IN DANGER !!!

RMNA0001

THESE DOGS ARE STILL IN DANGER!!!

All these poor dogs have been removed from one disgusting Death Camp to another.

This poor boy is ready to travel. He, amongst others needs our help now.

romappeal1
There was a lot of caution from the girls who run the camp-(this one and others) about us taking any dogs this week-they did not  want us anywhere near the shelter. 140 dogs under the care of a girl who goes there once a week.
Locked up in dark cages. Matted coats. Sores.

Not enough dogs were ready to travel on 30th May. Some were classed as ‘poorly’, some ‘missing’, dead, others just ‘not ready’.

These dogs have been moved from one death camp to another. They are left without medical treatment & general care-left to starve & eat each other-new born puppies being the major target.

This is Silver-on a catch pole-severely underweight-classed as ‘not well enough to travel because of runny nose’.

romappeal2

A list of 24 dogs has finally been given for 6th June. We have a chance to get a few of these dogs to safety-we are lucky to have Romanian Animal Action help cover our costs for the journey-at a cost of £100 per dog instead of £150. It’s a long 2 day journey with expenses all the way-this charity are doing the run at a loss of around £1,500 for these dogs.

Dogs in this shelter are dying from starvation & disease. They are lucky to get bread & water.
We have the chance to finally get these dogs out of hell & show them that there really is a life worth living.

If u can spare anything to get the first 25 dogs out of their Death Camp-it all adds up-and every little bit matters to that dog.

In other news, Dr Litov had his first court victory on 25th April when the Judge suspended the eviction notice, until the end of the trial, and now this week at the Administrative Court, the Regional Health Authority Inspector gave evidence and confirmed that all inspections carried out in the last few years showed no violations justifying an eviction. The Court’s final ruling will be at the end of June, so please sign and keep sharing our Justice 4 Borko petition – we have 56k signatures so far – we need to aim for a target of 100k signatures for it to be taken seriously by the Government. Borko and all the abused animals deserve our support!  Thank you! ♥

Israel: Law Suit Filed Regarding Disgusting Animal Abuses at Slaughterhouse.

Israel

A group of consumers headed by a Haredi woman is looking to sue Tnuva for consumer anguish.

By: Yori Yanover   Published: May 20th, 2013

Jerusalem District Court on Monday will hear arguments over the validity of a consumer class action suit against Tnuva Central Cooperative for the Marketing of Agricultural Produce in Israel Ltd., based on the claim that Tnuva misled consumers regarding the humane treatment of animals in its Beit She’an beef slaughterhouse and meat-packing plant, where its Adom Adom (“very red”) top quality brand is produced.

After a December 6, 2012 expose on Israeli TV consumer advocacy program “Colbotech” revealed some shocking details of the way animals are being treated in the Beit She’an slaughterhouse, a group of consumers, headed by a Haredi woman named Ruth Kolian, is looking to sue Tnuva for consumer anguish.

The issue at hand is whether the fact that the animals had undergone inhumane treatment in itself justifies a claim for monetary compensation for the plaintiffs, and whether it is sufficiently broad to justify a class action suit.

Tnuva, for its part, will be arguing that the very fact that the plaintiffs are essentially organized and represented by an organization called Anonymous for Animal Rights, which exposed the terrible violations at the Beit She’an plant in an effort to get it to close down, disqualifies them from adopting the stance of a cheated consumer.

Here are just some of the appalling conditions the Colbotech show exposed, the list is very long:

Calves were beaten and shocked repeatedly to urge them to march to slaughter.

Calves who had difficulty walking were shocked dozens of times in a row, in different parts of the body including the head and testicles. Those who still did not manage to walk were dragged on the floor by forklifts (the law in such cases says they should be killed on the spot).

Lambs were dragged on the ground by workers holding them by one leg (one employee was documented hauling two lambs at the same time).

Lambs were beaten repeatedly on their heads and bodies with a pipe, in order to encourage them to stand or walk, sometimes without any apparent reason.

Workers were documented stepping on lambs, lying down on them or riding them, throwing them in the air and catching them by the lambs’ mouths.

Calves were kept hanging upside down before slaughter for extended periods of time. An employee told an undercover investigator: “Today a live calf released itself, because of a worker’s blunder. It freed itself [from a conveyer belt to which it was attached hanging upside down by one leg] after it had already been butchered, it came to us still alive, it started to riot, nearly killed us. We fled. Finally they overcame it, with electric shockers. They beat it up until it calmed down

In many cases this Tnuva slaughterhouse’s meat was disqualified as traif because of bone fractures and other issues. The meat was marketed non-Jewish consumers.

It is interesting to note that while the plaintiffs never make the claim that it’s the halachic shechitah which is to blame for the terrible images the TV audience had viewed last winter—they blame Tnuva’s mismanagement—it is the corporation which, in effect, is making the anti shechitah case, suggesting it is impossible to slaughter an animal humanely.

The defense also provided a friend of the court note from Rabbi Shlomo Yosef Machpud, head of the Badatz kashrut system, who argues in very strong language against unnecessary cruelty to animals, stating that such action would entail the removal of the kosher certification.

Anonymous for Animal Rights has recruited potential plaintiffs for the district court case by defining them as “any person who has purchased … over the seven year period prior to the filing of this appeal, meat products produced by the brand ‘Adom Adom,’ and who, because of watching the investigation on Colbotech … has suffered emotional anguish and damage to their private autonomy.”

The suit is for 200 million Shekel (roughly $55 million).

The defense will argue that the law in Israel does not award damages to a person who suffered anguish from watching another person’s suffering (parents and their children, for example). How much less entitled are the plaintiffs, who were only affected by watching animals suffer.

But, of course, as Yossi Wolfson, an attorney for the plaintiffs, noted, the human-suffering is in relation to a third person, while here the consumer experienced the anguish directly.

To remind you, today’s ruling by Judge Tamar Rapaport, is expected to be only over the validity of the class action suit, and not a deliberation of the suit itself.

Anonymous for Animal Rights also has a case pending before the Supreme Court, requesting that the Tnuva slaughterhouse be shut down, first temporarily and then permanently.

The Jewish Press contacted the Friedman legal firm representing the defendant, Tnuva, but they were not available for comment.

Serbia: May Update From Danica At Cat Shelter Felix. – The Biggest Problems Are Yet to Come !

Serbian Flag

23rd May 2013.

Here is the latest update from Danica about the situation at Cat Shelter Felix.

As you can read, the repair work is just ongoing, and so donations towards helping with the costs are always welcome.

If you would like to donate, then please go to the links at the end of the latest news from Danica.

———————————————————————
The Biggest Problems Are yet to Come

This year’s round of shelter repairs is currently well underway. Paving of the sheltered area under the eaves is finally finished and we’ve already undertaken our next challenge – fixing the only cat room in the front yard. Not until the workers began to rip out the ceiling were we aware of its true condition and the real reason why that huge bump had formed in it months ago.  The old saying “You never know what lies beneath” takes on a whole new meaning during repairs at Felix shelter.

Like all of the other auxiliary rooms, the one in question has originally been made of reeds and rammed earth, with random bricks scattered here and there. The ceiling sagged down because the roof was leaking water and not only that, the rammed earth and reeds became wet and heavy, which has caused one of the beams carrying the weight of the roof to frighteningly bend down in the middle. That particular beam lies on top of the walls and supports the structural roof beams so it can’t be replaced, as the entire structure would fall down otherwise.

Nevertheless, it can stay as it is without causing any additional problems. OSB sheathing has already been placed above, and an insulating layer of Styrofoam will be attached beneath. After that, special nets will be adhered to both the inner walls and the ceiling and Bavalit, which is a kind of mortar, will be applied afterwards. New electrical installations of cables, plugs and wall sockets will replace the old ones and the best news is that all of the costs of renovating that room in the front yard are covered. Unfortunately, this is just the beginning…

DSC09552_resize

DSC09460_resize

DSC09487_resize

DSC00016_resize

DSC09951_resize

The biggest problem is the roof of the auxiliary rooms itself – half-rotten and cracked in places, it must be replaced entirely, not a single part of it is worth saving. The only cat room in good shape is the last and the biggest one in the backyard, as it was built out of normal building materials just before I moved in a few years ago, so it’s still quite new. Raising enough money to replace the roof sounds like science fiction at the moment, but if we miraculously succeed, there will be plenty of hard work ahead. Additional layers of bricks will be added onto the existing walls and after that, the wooden frame will be placed on top of the bricks to allow the concrete to be poured into it. Once the concrete frame is finished, it will be ready to carry the new roofing. Roof beams and rafters will be set in place to make a new roof structure, which will then be covered with an insulation layer and the final step will be putting up new roof tiles. With this new roofing, all of the auxiliary rooms will be ready for next winter.

However, if the lack of funds prevents us from accomplishing what we have planned, Felix kitties will be facing an extremely uncertain future.  We can try and put a nylon cover under the old roof that is already leaking in multiple places, hoping  that the water won’t continue soaking the ceilings of the  auxiliary rooms, but this patched up roof can’t reasonably be expected to  endure another snow.  The longer we wait, the greater the risk we run that this rotten roofing will collapse in on the cats and everything will fall apart. It’s been said a long time ago that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure…

Please, help us if you possibly can! Felix kitties look pampered and happy, without a care in the world, but their lives will change dramatically if the roof above the rooms they eat and sleep in caves in. Some of them are very old or chronically ill, while others are very young, they have all been through a lot before they arrived here, and now the question is just how many hardships these delicate, brave little creatures can endure in their lifetime. After all of the misery, fear, violence and hopelessness they were forced to experience, they have found their safe haven that gave their lives a completely new dimension.  It would be so unfair to let anything shatter their hope again…

Together, we can make their fairy tale last! Every little bit helps!

About This group is created to help volunteers from Belgrade HumAnimal who rescue dogs from the Pozega horror shelter in Serbia. It is estimated over 7000 dogs have already been killed there and it is well known the animals are tortured and literally starved – we are trying to save as many as possible by reserving them vetting them/placing them in private kennels and finding them fosters or adopters.

We will raise funds, build awareness and assist with lobbying the government.

This infamous torture dog pound ironically called “Our Home”:

– is catching dogs from 7 cities in Serbia
– after a few weeks dogs are killed with t61 injenction and no preparation
– or they are strangled or beaten!!!
– dogs are literally starved before they die
– most dogs can no longer walk
– and can barely lift their heads

Pups only couple of months old are curled up on the ground and do not react any more to the human voice.

It is well known that the shelter supervisor and the veterinarian torture the dogs. There are 20 criminal charges against the management of the pound, but they continue to catch and kill these poor animals.

– it is thought around 300-400 dogs are killed per month.
– Local Authorities pay 100 euros per dog to the pound!
– it means they earn around 400.000 euros for year

**  In the last 2 weeks 57 dogs have been saved by Belgrade group HumAnimal and we are now raising funds for 20 more!!!! (10 more this week/10 next) **

– many of those saved have a serious health problems, due to being saves and sterilisations performed by incompetent veterinarians.
– some are fighting for their lives
– 4 have very sadly died due to having been starved or distemper

PLEASE HELP IN WHATEVER WAY YOU CAN TO STOP THE HORROR!

Serbia: Sometimes, Dreams DO Come True !

Under the section / Tab –  ‘Shelters’ at the top of our site, we recently provided a Care2 link regarding Sasha, the Serbian man who has been rescuing stray dogs for years, and who very recently was in dire straits in helping them all; simply feeding them for a start.

Our article (which you can still see under ‘Shelters’ stated:

Subject: This Man is Running Out of Food to Feed 400 Rescued Dogs

Sasha Pejčić is a rare kind of man who has been rescuing dogs in Nis, Serbia for years.

His animal shelter is absolutely breathtaking.   The dogs all follow Sasha around and it’s amazing to watch their interaction with each other. They all eat together peacefully, play, run and sleep together.

Most of the dogs have been taken off of the streets and nursed back to health (as well as spayed and neutered) and now live in a large pack in a disused riding school. At night they sleep in stables in groups of about 15.

sasha 3

However, Sasha is now facing a major crisis over how to feed these dogs.

The Austrian organization that was supporting him is no longer able to cope with all the financial needs and the dogs did not eat for two days recently. Sasha has now run out of food totally. His four workers who help with the feeding and cleaning have not been paid since the New Year and the rent hasn’t been paid for four months.

Well now (16/05) we have some brilliant news !

Have you heard the news?

Thanks to the amazing Harmony Fund supporters across the planet, 400 dogs living at this cage-free oasis in Serbia are now safe.

Last month, they couldn’t eat for two days due to a financial crisis that gripped the shelter, but with your donations, we sent the first $10,500 this week and another $12,000 will go over to Serbia in June. After that, we’ll be helping on an ongoing basis with a couple thousand dollars a month for the long term to buy food, veterinary care, electricity and worker’s wages to make sure that the dogs here never go hungry again.

The shelter’s founder Sasha does not speak any English, so the news was given to him by translator. It’s heartwarming to see this stoic man who has become so accustomed to suffering try to hold back his emotion as he receives word that the dogs will not go without food ever again.

At the very end of this video clip, Sasha has just a few simple words to express how he feels.

You can watch it here    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzaaNNeS6vg&feature=youtu.be

Be sure to stay in touch with us at www.HarmonyFund.org

Bless you all for making this dream come true – and also thanks to all from SAV.
