There are no animal markets without suffering and stress for the animals.
Animals’ Angels goes against abuses, and wants to reach an end in the long term markets. In an effort to improve the situation for the animals on the markets, we are in dialogue with traders and local authorities.

Here are some of the reports from the cruel situation in the animal markets, all over the world.
1. Saleyards and animal markets in Australia

Australia is one of the world’s largest ‘producers’ and exporters of so-called ‘farmed animals’ and likes to boast its animal welfare laws. Although these are in force, the animals are not adequately protected on the transports and markets.
Dealing with them is rude and careless. Since 2004 Animals’ Angels devotes itself completely to these animals and demands changes.
On markets and sale yards in Australia the most lucrative deals are possible. In these auctions we always see the same problems:
Totally crowded pens.
Animals pushed to the ground, who are barely able to get up.
No water, no food.
No shade despite high temperatures.
Overheated animals.
Missing / insufficient care of injured / ill animals.
Forcible unloading and loading.
Overcrowded transport vehicles.
Animals with trapped body parts, with no possibility to break free.
Transport of non-transportable animals.
Insufficient weather protection: no roofs on the top truck level.
Compliance with animal welfare laws is expected by the parties involved.

3. Animal markets in India – respect for cows?
4. Animal markets in Morocco
5. Animal markets in Poland
6. Animal markets in Romania
7. Animal markets in Spain
8. Animal markets in Tanzania…

My comment: In Germany, the animal welfare deficiencies at these events are inherent in the system – animal suffering is under the cover of animal love.
It is mainly reported on the animal markets from abroad.
But also on many weekends animal markets take place in Germany and there countless animals suffer from fear and stress – to the pure entertainment of visitors and hobby breeders.
In Bavaria alone, more than 700 animal markets take place each year. At the same time these animal markets are moving in a kind of “lawless space“ where they are rarely or only insufficiently controlled.
It is traded on countless exchanges with all living beings, which the “market” has to offer: Birds, reptiles, amphibians, horses, small mammals, but also dogs and cats are sold like “junk ware”.
The suffering of the animals does not count for dealers, breeders and many visitors.
“Animals are the pitiful slaves and victims of the most brutal part of humanity”. (John Stuart Mill)

She is friendly and polite – which is probably enhanced by her British accent. But if need be, it’s hard as steel. Ingrid never shies away from finding clear words or making a statement – whether she’s going to undress, light a car, take Anna Wintour’s office, or get jailed.
Ingrid has taken off countless times to protest against fur, leather, meat, etc. And even now, at 70, there is no reason for her to stop.

For an ad motif, she hung herself on a butcher’s hook at a market in London next to the bodies of pigs to show how similar humans and other animals are.
“It was very cold,” recalls Ingrid. “And it was almost impossible to hang on this hook. Your whole body weight hangs on your hands. I just undressed, grabbed the hook and hung there. I knew that there would be people who found the motive offensive.
Animals are just like us in terms of their bodies and their feelings. We need to get people to think about it. I was wondering if we should not bring in the cries of pigs (in the slaughterhouse), but that would have been too much. “

In the summer of 1981, Ingrid and another PETA-USA founder decided to uncover the unimaginable animal suffering that takes place behind locked laboratory doors.
It was the first eyewitness investigation of the animal rights movement.

Ingrid’s colleague hired worked as an undercover at the Institute for Behavioral Research – a government-funded laboratory in Silver Spring, Maryland. There monkeys were cut through the spinal nerves to make their limbs partly unusable.
With electric shocks, food deprivation, and other cruel methods, the animals were forced to try everything they could to reuse the disabled limbs.
The investigation was groundbreaking.
For the first time, an experimentalist was arrested and convicted of animal cruelty. For the first time abused animals were confiscated from a laboratory. And for the first time, the US Supreme Court has won a victory for animals abused in animal experiments.
Even after her death, Ingrid wants to ensure that the subject animal rights comes to the front pages.
Her will states that various parts of her body should be used to denounce animal suffering.

Their meat is to be grilled, for example, at a “human barbecue”.
Her skin is turned into a wallet and other leather products.
Her legs should be disassembled and make human umbrella stands or other articles.
Ingrid wants to make it clear that we all have the same body parts and nobody wants to die for a steak or a shoe.
Her lizard tattoo will be removed to make the first “exotic leather” accessory that the wearer has agreed to.
One of her eyes is sent to the US Environmental Protection Agency to remind her that PETA USA will keep a close eye on her until the agency stops her useless animal experiments.
Ingrid’s liver is publicly displayed in France as a protest against the compulsory feeding of geese and ducks for foie gras.
“We have to make people think,” explains Ingrid.
My comment: It does not matter who suffers. We must alleviate the suffering itself.
For that, we need effective activism, courage, and aggressive methods to spread the animal’s suffering to the media and society. Just as Ingrid Newkirk does!
Our fight should never stop.
And we are sure that Ingrid Newkirk will not stop fighting at the age of 70.
We wish that and we hope so.
My best regards to all, Venus

Is not it just amazing? The photos that follow are not just a selection of some horrible pictures, they are randomly removed from the folder – this is what it really looks like behind the scenes! In the meantime, even the greatest optimists must realize that the pink farm idyl does not exist!
Five visited stables – five criminal charges, five times animal cruelty!
A cut of 100%! Delicatessen from Austria!!

We almost miss the words about what a recent research in Salzburg’s cow stables brought to light – this is only a term permissible at the end of the day:
INCOMPREHENSIBLE!!!!
In the last 2 or 3 years we had several times one in the Salzburger Land, resident farmers because of the horn connection of his bulls display. The Vet authority told us afterwards, from now on the problem would be eliminated, the cruel tying on the horns would be history!

Here, the chain is pulled around the neck, then wrapped around the bars on the left and right and fastened. What remains as a radius of movement?
When standing up, the limbs slide upwards over the iron bar a few centimeters, often not even determining that; In addition, the system is amateurish, inadequate, ‘put together’ – just, pure shit!

Especially a cow seems injured; low-viscosity feces in large quantities surrounds their mooring, and it stands with a forefoot very unnatural on the concrete parapet. Her hind legs are tied together. Expert diagnosis: paresis.
She would have to be under constant veterinary treatment, which the official veterinarian has to verify; a permanent bondage of the hind legs is also prohibited!

Every time we think the height of cruelty has been reached, someone puts it somewhere else.
My comment: I know Tom Putzgruber, the chairman of the association “Respect animals” in Austria, and I would like to thank him in the name of all the uncountable animals for which he literally uses his whole life and his whole existence with a force that is in any case unattainable and very difficult to imitate for me.
“Gigantic suffering weighs on many of our animal fellow creatures worldwide,” he always says.
Tom Putzgruber, and his small team has resisted all the animal misery for many years.
In faraway Africa, in Romania, in Mauritania for the labor donkeys, in Bulgaria, in Serbia … everywhere and around the world he travels to alleviate animal suffering.

“In some of the indigenous dialects of Mauritania, there is not even a word for donkeys, they are often referred as “the beasts that one beats “, he says!
Thank you, Tom, for everything you do for our fellow creatures.
My best regards, Venus

A world-leading animal testing laboratory in the UK closes the doors – Because the future is animal-free!

Great Britain is sending out an important signal for forward-looking research: The animal testing laboratory of the famous Sanger Institute is closed.
Official reason: Increased focus on modern, animal-free research systems.
The nationwide association Doctors Against Animal Experiments welcomes this strategy and urges animal testing laboratories in this country to use the signs of the time also.

Following an in-depth review of the Institute’s strategy, it was decided that the Animal Research Institute, which was built in 2006 for £ 30 million (just under € 34 million), will be closed by 2022 at the latest.
As the renowned scientific journal nature reports, the reason for the decision is the rapid global establishment of human-based research models such as 3-dimensional cell culture systems and organoids.
They want to increasingly rely on these research systems, as they are forward-looking. For example, the Sanger Institute participates in the international Human Cell Atlas project, in which all cell types of the human body are characterized in detail.

My comment: The well-known cancer researcher Dr. Irwin D. J. Bross, head of the Department of Life Statistics at the Roswell Park Memorial Institute in New York, said something very important about animal testing:
“Not a single drug for the treatment of human cancer was originally found through an animal experiment … The results of animal models of drugs or other remedies have caused nothing but confusion, and misled those cancer researchers who tried to draw conclusions from mice to humans pull. […]. From a scientific point of view, experiments on animals can therefore be described as pure fraud. Privately they (the experimenters) will admit that the animal model does not work, but they react with a “shrug of their shoulders” when asked if it works.

“The animal experiment is simply a criminal method that must be abolished. We do not need alternatives for that. But we need a completely new system. So an animal-free research system. “
