Spain: Save Maggie From Death – Please Crosspost.

Maggie is in death row at the Hellin dog pound in Spain. She is 3 years old, a Spanish mastin mix (largish size)and is very sweet and sociable.

But there is no hope for this beautiful dog because she has leishmaniasis and the Spanish will not adopt her.

I have two dogs with leishmaniasis, one is cured (they do get cured sometimes, contrary to what the vets will say) and the other only needs a little tablet a day; through the years the disease is slowly vanishing from her system and she looks and feels perfectly healthy.

They say 70% of the dogs in southern Spain and other Mediterrenean countries have the disease and in my experience, provided they take the tablet, it’s not a problem at all.

Please forward this message to all your animal loving contacts, may be among us we´ll find Maggie a happy home before it’s too late!

Best Wishes,

Iris

Subject: January 2011:   Hell to the refuge of Backa Topola, need donations

Wed, January 26, 2011 – 10:21

I got the info..and links..

I translated into english through google..so it is not all very clear..

BUT THE SITUATION WAS AS BAD AS WRITTEN IN THE CRY FOR HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN IF THIS SHELTER GETS HELP FROM BIRGITTE BARDOT FOUNDATION???

Nancy

We just returned from Serbia and have found refuge in a situation of Etela unimaginable.

The dogs had no food, no water, they slept standing exhausted to not having to lie down in mud and feces. They fought to death for a niche, for a rotten sausage for a female in heat.Uncollected corpses, the wounded, sick, more straw, births ….

Employees who are helped at the shelter since Christmas parties, Etela do pay more for three months ….
His car was seized, his tractor broke down.
Hell since then ….

Emergency measures were taken to try to soften the lives of dogs waiting to find a lasting solution to this situation from happening again.

An employee who had returned to work the dogs at the shelter, it will give us new each week and ensure water, food, straw, the collection of feces and the dead. Price: 250 euros per month
200 bales of straw will be delivered each month Place: 200 Euros
We evacuated 22 dogs we have placed on board in order to save them: it takes an average of 35 euros per month per dog board, price: 770 euros per month.
We paid 200 euros to EDF so that electricity is not cut off (no water for dogs without electricity)
FB had deliver 4t croquettes on for the shelter in place, it will take a month and a half maximum.

The funds of the association are empty, it’s a great that we are launching SOS to the employee for the straw for the pensions of rescued dogs.

*** For months, we have to find 1220 euros.  ***

Donations can be sent either by cheque at the headquarters of the association: Mukitza, 11 Limours Road, The Molière 91470, or by transfer (see link):

http://associationmukitza.forums-actifs.com/t1517-nous-avons-besoin-de-votre-aide-pour-les-soutenir

Thank you specify “To Backa Topola”

I’m sorry for the harshness of the photos that follow, they are unfortunately the reality on the ground when we arrived ….

Small dog found holed up in small parks, vagina air evacuated in emergency and operated. Her name is Peggy now, and will be put up for adoption. She is saved ….

The future of the puppies in the shelter ….

Depleted dogs sleeping standing day and night in the large parks

Mud, mud still

Never, since in France, saved …. we have two days to find him.

Looks the same everywhere

Small blind and deaf cocker spaniel died two days after our arrival, employees fed him every day since their departure did not find his food, he died of hunger.

Large dogs with demodicosis advanced, we evacuated to a pension, it will be neat.

Boxer very sick stomach, removed board, he saw the vet and live.

Subject: can you help

Hi All
Tricia here from Palamartsa Animal Sanctuary and I know it’s been a while since we last conversed but yet again I have been inundated with pups and strays being left outside my door, I have struggled on here on my own but I remembered you said if I ever get to the stage where we are thinking of putting any of the dogs to sleep to contact you. We are so overcrowded here and we really need a big appeal to get some sort of help here for the dogs in our house and the poor little ones outside, we are in a country that chucks dogs out like we chuck out the rubbish and their heartlessness never ceases to stun me and the cruelty with which they treat the poor dogs that they no longer want never ends!

Please can you help me do a fund appeal for the new premises we have put a deposit on, which is bigger and has barns that we can turn into warm kennels for the 26 inside and 7 outside dogs that we are at present looking after. I would not ask but we have still had no help from anyone and our finances are now near zero, please can you find it in your heart to help once more as I really don’t know where else to turn to at the moment!

I understand if you can’t but maybe you could put us in touch with any people that may be able to help us and save these dogs lives as they are the innocent ones in this cruel country
Many thanks
and kind regards

Uk / Romania: Special Appeal to Find a New Forever, Permanent Loving Home for ‘Fluffy’, a DISABLED Dog Currently Living A Poor Life in Romania. Can You Help ?

FLUFFY

Dear all,

Below is an extract from an email from Chrissy who is based in London and who is involved with bringing Romanian dogs over to the Uk and other countries in Europe and the rest of the world for re-homing.

Chrissy also regularly takes out food and bedding to 3 shelters in Romania.

We ask animal contacts everywhere who have a special contacts list of their own to please send out information about ‘Fluffy’, the dog shown below.

Additionally, if you are prepared to give some or all of your e mail contacts to Chrissy, then that would be very welcome.  This is effectively so that the information of any dogs which require re homing in the future can be sent out en masse to all of the new contacts.

Chrissy can be e mailed directly at  mail@romaniaanimalaid.co.uk

The following is a special appeal to help find a new home outside of Romania for ‘Fluffy’, who is a disabled dog.

Please read the following from Chrissy for further information.

————————– On Tue, 25/1/11, Chrissy wrote the following message:

Note that ‘Rommies’ is the term used for dogs which are Romanian.

” Things hectic here as usual. Trying to balance the day job and the rescue side of things.  Had 2 more Rommies arrive yesterday and more in February.  Starting a schools educational program out there in a few weeks, will take place in Romania’s 2nd largest city.

Have an urgent case of a disabled dog called Fluffy, photos attached.

He’s in a shelter in a remote part of Romania, he’s paralysed following being hit by a car which is very common out there. He’s about 4 years old and other than his obvious disability and the fact he’s missing an eye he’s in good health.

We’ve rehomed about 10 or so disabled dogs in the past to Germany, the US, even as far as Alaska!

We desperately need him out of that shelter as he’s dragging himself along in the dirt.  We can’t bring him here (to the Uk) as he has no passport, but he could go to a home elsewhere in Europe within weeks (as less strict entry laws) either into a forever home or foster home.

If you have any contacts in Europe please let me know.  They’d need to be aware of what’s involved in taking on a disabled dog (i.e. we’d get him a mobility cart and they’d have to use nappies on him) but we could advise all this and put them in touch with others that have disabled pets.

They live a fairly normal life thereafter!   “

Please crosspost this to the moon and back !

Thanks – SAV.

Serbia: Due to the Work of Many, the New Smederevo Pound Has been Transformed – and Around 20 Dogs have Been Rehomed !

Above – the Old Smederevo Pound

Below – the New, after work from the new management of Komunalac cooperated with activists in helping the dogs

Animal protection in Serbia

SMEDEREVO DOG POUND

Smederevo dog pound is a good example of changing conditions in which shelter dogs in Serbia live. In the last six months there has been a significant improvement in the conditions in this dog pound, and around 20 dogs have been adopted.

Smederevo authorities, the city firm in charge Komunalac, activists and local volunteers work together to help about 60 dogs that currently live in the pound. New management of Komunalac cooperates with activists in helping the dogs: their first step was to provide dogs with enough food, ground was covered with gravel, and together with the activists they have also repaired and enlarged some boxes and fixed some roofs.

All of the dogs in Smederevo pound are sterilized and they have houses thanks to activists and sponsors from Serbia and abroad, and also to a vet’s practice that has been active in helping stray animals in Smederevo for years.

Volunteers treat dogs against fleas and ticks, help puppies, and dogs recovering after operations or illness, and sometimes they organize walking of dogs. Dogs need contact with people and it would be very good for them if more volunteers came to spend some time with them and also to help the pound management with finding new homes for the dogs. Dogs and cats from pounds and private shelters across Serbia need the help of volunteers. Their engagement is irreplaceable.

According to the Serbian Animal Welfare Law, the local authorities are under obligation to carry out a strategy for resolving the problem of stray animals. Serbia is a country in transition, with a lot of problems and usually lacking finance resources and therefore the help of domestic and foreign activists is necessary.

While it is encouraging to see improvements in the Smederevo pound, the reality is that there are still hundreds of stray dogs and cats living on the streets that need urgent help. Financial support and volunteers are also needed for private mini shelters in Smederevo.

There is a lot of work that still needs to be done and it is necessary that there are local animal welfare organizations that are willing to help the local authorities of Smederevo in the process of resolving the problem of stray animals.

I would like to thank Sonja, Sylvana, Brigitte, Iris, Zsuzsanna, and all anonymous sponsors, and also to Dr Sasa Stokic and his wife Dusica from Smederevo. Without your help and support, it would be impossible to help dear dogs that live in Smederevo pound!

Thank you very much,

Serbia: Please Consider Making a Donation to Help Stray Animals Living at EPAR Shelter This Winter.

Please have a look at the photographs in the following links, which are all taken at EPAR shelter, Subotica, Serbia.

EPAR shelter is run by our good friend Slavica, a lady who dedicates her entire life to helping all stray animals as well as fighting through legal routes for the enforcement and implementation of existing stray animal legislation by the Serbian authorities:

https://serbiananimalsvoice.wordpress.com/2008/12/24/serbia-epar-shelter-saves-klementina-the-pigs-bacon/

As we are rapidly approaching winter now the animals at EPAR shelter need as much help as they can be provided with.   There are nearly always around 1,000 stray dogs being cared for at EPAR shelter.

This is an appeal to ask if you would consider making a donation for the animals at the shelter. Even a small donation will provide a few feeding bowls, allow the purchase of some wood or cement for building improvements, or help with the purchase of straw bales which are very much needed to provide warmth of the animals in the coming months.

One of the best and cheapest ways to internationally donate money to EPAR shelter is by using Western UnionTransfer costs vary and are calculated depending on the amount of the donation – you only pay more in the form of a transfer cost if you donate larger quantities

In most countries donations can be done on line, by telephone, or visiting a local agent.

Please look at the Western Union web site for further info:

http://www.westernunion.com/info/selectCountry.asp

Direct donations can be made to the EPAR account in Hungary, which should be used in preference to Serbian accounts:

OTP Bank

Szeged

Klauzal ter,5

Hungary,EU

Account number : 11775355-37518886

Account name : MAZAK-BESLIC JANOS

Address : Subotica 24000,Matka Vukovica, 9

IBAN : HU31117753553751888600000000

Swift : OTP VHUHB

—————————————————–

Donating to the Hungarian account is best, because the tax for money transfer is  very low and it avoids the payment of tax to Serbian authorities who have done nothing for stray dogs and cats, but who immediately ask high taxes for any donation given.

Please consider making a donation to help the animals at EPAR shelter this winter.

 Thank you – SAV.
