Below are further pictures from Slavica of the dogs at EPAR shelter.  Many living in new boxes that have been made for them and now allowing them to be free to play with companions in their compound.  The weather is very good at the moment and so many of the dogs are enjoying the sunshine.

The next general election in the United Kingdom (Uk) must be held on or before Thursday 3 June 2010.  This will decide who will be the next government (and opposition party).

Polls reveal that over 75% of the British public do not support a repeal of the hunting act. We believe this is an accurate reflection of a society that does not want to see a return to their cruel and barbaric past.

On the 15th September 2004, the MP’s listed in the link below voted Against the Hunting Bill in an attempt to prevent the ban on Hunting from being passed into law. Many of them are still MP’s and are intending to stand in the 2010 General election.

Fortunately, the Conservatives are the opposition (Non Government) party in the Uk at the current time.  Long may it remain that way.  The Conservative party has declared that if elected into government in the 2010 general election, it will repeal (bring back) the legislation about hunting, so allowing British Wildlife animals to be hunted yet again.

The following photo is from SAV files; it was taken by SAV founders during the mid 1990’s and shows a fox which was killed by the hunt in the county of Kent, England.

Never before have we (SAV) released this image; but now it is necessary.  It shows the real side of foxhunting; the side that puts the ‘they die of a quick bite to the neck’ into the bin.

As shown here, hunted foxes are literally ripped apart whilst still alive by foxhounds of the hunt.

Voting Conservative at the 2010 election will bring this animal abuse back to the fields of the Uk; and the vast majority of British people DO NOT WANT IT ever again.

Dear animal lovers,

I am writing to ask for your kind support in our efforts to save the poor cats being stolen, sold and killed with boiling water by some evil people in Guangdong province, southern China. I will tell you more about it:

Every day thousands of cats are transported by trucks from many cities in China such as Nanjing, Shanghai, Jiashan, Suzhou, Anhui, Hunan, Hubei, Heibei, to eventually reach a hellish destination called Guangzhou. In small wooden cages that do not even allow them to stretch their bodies, the stressed, fearful and desperate cats are on a journey with only one outcome – a horrible death. When they reach Guangzhou, these cats are sold to local markets and restaurants within the city, and then ultimately butchered (horrifically) to be eaten. The cats are stressed purposely because the evil people who eat them believe by stressing the poor animal chemicals are released which supposedly improves the flavor of the flesh. The cats are shown absolutely no mercy or respect, they suffer unimaginably from beginning to end. Cages holding the cats are tossed from trucks onto the pavement causing terrible injuries and suffering. Cats are intelligent and highly sensitive souls and will suffer enormously, both physically and mentally. This mass slaughter has been happening for many years but, to the shame of the people of Guangzhou, has reached a peak in recent years.

There are some restaurants which make ‘dishes’ by killing cats in boiling water, calling them “water-boiled live cats”. After long suffering during transportation, many cats are already injured severely or even die before they reach Guangzhou. Then these evil people catch them by their necks with a sharp hook, throw them roughly on to the floor and beat them with a metal stick until they are half dead. Then (horrifically) they skin the cats with a special device while they are still alive. And if that’s not barbaric and cruel enough, they then throw the cats into a pot of boiling water while still alive

I am very sorry to inform you of this depressing story. However, these are the facts of what is happening here in my city, which claims to be the most civilized and developed city in southern China, and which will host the 2010 Asian Sports Games.

In Shanghai and many other cities where the cats come from, many people are trying to stop the stealing and shipping of cats. They are the animals right advocates and cat carers who have lost their beloved cats. Many people used to feed the cats in their houses or their local areas, but they have found that cats in their area have been disappearing rapidly. Actually the cats are stolen by evil people and shipped to the province of Guangdong where they end their lives miserably and leave their dear owners heart-broken. These evil catnappers take advantage of an absence of any law to protect animals and operate without fear of prosecution. They pay petty thieves to steel cats in their neighbourhoods. The thieves usually use a trap with a bird on top of it to attract cats. Once the cat enters the trap out of curiosity, it can’t escape.

Recently some determined, caring people have joined together to establish a team, that is Shanghai Cats’ Protection Team. They are fighting against the criminals on their own due to the lack of legislation for animal protection. They have won several fantastic battles on Aug. 05, Aug. 14, Aug. 16 and Aug 19, Sep 21 and Nov.2 ( please see our reports for more details). We are so proud of these brave fighters, who, out of their compassion and love for our lovely animal friends, rush to the highway and daringly stop the trucks physically over and over again. They are fighting extremely hard battles, sacrificing their own time, comfort and personal safety, even risking their lives to fight this evil. We thank them for their heroic action. We also thank them for taking action on behalf of all us animal lovers in China who, like yourselves, never tolerate cruelty to animals and will never stop pursuing the virtue of love and respect for all life forms on our beautiful, but often u gly, planet.

Shanghai Cats’ Protection Team was formed by volunteers. Among them are mostly senior and retired citizens, civil workers, freelancers, etc (mostly female). Their enemy, on the other hand, are the evil catnappers – criminal gangs who have committed such crimes in the past. Hitherto this brave team have won several victories and saved thousands of cats. However, recently the catnappers have become more and more crazy and the situation is dangerous for our activists. On Nov. 2nd 2009, the insane criminals even attacked the cat lovers violently in front of the the police! However, their violence and intimidation can never stop our brave animal lovers. What drives these caring people that makes them so strong and fearless? Love, compassion, and the power of good prevailing over evil.

I ask you with all my heart to support this loving rescuer team. They have risked their lives to save more than 700 cats from these evil criminals. These poor cats need to be settled down into a safe place, spayed, healed, and then adopted. All this requires a great deal of money, time and effort. They are desperately in need of your help.

As you know, the Shanghai Cats’ Protection Team is the No.1 group who take this action to fight cruelty to cats. Their rescuer action is significant. Please, if you can, give them a hand. Your donation will be a great help to the loving cats, and above all it will help make a change to the animal rights movement in China.

Dear Prime Minister,
Dear Mayor,

Macedonia has always been a symbol of ancient traditions, good people and hospitality… Now, seeing through our eyes, Skopje is a city of terror, massacre and use of strength against the week ones and those who don’t have a chance to defend themselves! We thought that we are part of the European family, but all we can see is an ugly picture of terror and a country that can’t handle the problem of homeless dogs. They are brutally killed in the “Vardarishte” shelter, the institution that literary has closed its doors for the people who want to adopt a homeless dog, the institution that didn’t changed its way of functioning and killing innocent animals, but became even more radical. All of this mentioned above, will put a mark on you – as aggressive politicians who don’t care about which instrument to use, as long as their objective is achieved.

But… do you know that one of the conditions for entrance in the European family is human treatment towards the dogs and transparency of the institutions who are supposed to take care of them? Do you know that you are the only one who don’t have at least three shelters for dogs in the capital city? Do you know that the world is watching you and your brutal actions? Do you want to be remembered as dog-killers and nothing more? Have you ever heard about the international organizations that fight for animal rights and all the victories that they have achieved?

According to the statistics, Skopje has the highest level of euthanized homeless dogs. Dogs that are young and healthy, creatures that have a right to live, just as every other being. We will do anything that is in our power – and believe us, we have the power, because we are not moved by money but by the LOVE towards the innocent creatures – to stop this massacre.

We are therefore asking you to stop this brutality IMMEDIATELY towards those who suffer!

SAV are delighted that Vesna, one member of our team in the Alliance, has produced some excellent images which you can copy and paste into your campaigns literature.

All of the images are shown in this post and relate to Hunting, organised animal fighting and animal protection.

Most of the images relate directly to issues in Serbia, having the serbian national flag in the corner, but some do not carry the flag and can be used globally.

Target: Mayor of Skopje

There is one only shelter in Skopje, and dogs are killed in huge number and impressive frequency. The Mayor, responsible of the shelter, declared openly that dogs must be KILLED, everyone of them.

Volounteers of “Care for Animals” protested, of course, but it’s been vain
The shelter was meant to sterilize dogs and then let them go, but OFFICIALLY 56% of dogs are killed, there are about 10,000 dogs in the streets that have to be “cleaned” and volounteers  can do very little without an International support.

It’s about time to let the Mayor know that DOGS CAN’T BE KILLED!

Poradi toa into e potrebno:
1. Urgenten prekin na masovna eutanazija! Vakvoto nesto ukazuva na grozomorna surovost, koncepciska zaostanatost I grubo krsenje na zacrtanite zevropski standardi vo odnos na tretiranjeto na bezdomnite kucinja!
2. Itno reorganiziranje I zgolemuvanje na kapacitetite vo stacionarot Vardariste- Sramno e da ocekuvame nekoi rezultati od stacionar koj nudi samo 1 sluzba za zalovuvanje I 1 veterinar- a treba da se istretiraat 10000 kucinja! So vakviot neseriozen pristap samo se pribegnuva kon nekontrolirano ubivanje a nepovratno se trosat ogromni sumi na pari! Preku potrebno e vklucuvanje na najmalku uste 5 veterinarni lica ili sekoja opstina da angazira vetyerinar I zalovuvacka sluzba so vozilo.
3. Voveduvanje na konstanten monitoring na rabotata na ovoj proekt- inspektorat, gradska uprava, graganski zdruzenia,
4. DOSLEDNO VRAKANJE na zalovenite kucinja na istata lokacija, obvrska koja Komunalec apsolutno ne ja sproveduva, iako se za toa plateni! (posledica: %u201Cisprazneti lokacii%u201D gi popolnuvaat kucinja od drugi lokacii, duri I od nadvor od gradot!
5. Angaziranje na kompetenti lica vo stacionarot koi bi se zalagale za zgolemena stapka na vdomuvanje na kucinjata namesto nekompetentni I KOMPROMITIRANI lica na Komunalec, KOI SE NISTO DRUGO TUKU UBIJCI NA KUCINJA!

Several Balkans states are now seeking either full membership (Accession) to the European Union (EU), or are attempting stronger links with the EU.

These include:  Republic of Macedonia,  Montenegro,  Serbia,  Bosnia
and Herzegovina,  Croatia and Kosovo.

Serbian Animals Voice (SAV) has been campaigning for the improved welfare of Balkans animals for several years.  We have extensive experience and data relating to the terrible daily suffering inflicted on animals, despite existing Balkan states national legislation which should legally prevent much of this.  There is very little evidence to show political and municipal authority enforcement of animal welfare legislation. %u2013 details of this on a %u2018nation by nation%u2019 basis can be seen via our site at https://serbiananimalsvoice.wordpress.com/

In October 2009, SAV wrote to Commissioner Olli Rehn; EU Commissioner for Enlargement, expressing our deep concerns regarding an apparent lack of existing national animal welfare legislation implementation and enforcement by governments throughout the Balkan states.

Over 25 prime evidence links from the SAV site were provided to Commissioner Rehn, each of these containing many sub links, showing extreme Balkans animal suffering video footage which relate to our concerns.  A few examples are shown in the following links ;

We have expressed our concerns to the Commissioner, that even when provided with such evidence, clearly showing extreme animal abuses, nothing with regard investigation and prosecution is being followed up by the Balkans authorities to press charges; to enforce (the) often existing national animal welfare legislation.  In Serbia for example, the Public Attorney appears to be dismissing all evidence provided by animal welfare campaigners; instead, they themselves are themselves being accused of obstructing them (the Public Attorney) from getting on with their legal work.

In our letter, we have reminded Commissioner Rehn that (on his website) his very own words declare:

The European Union currently has 27 Member States. The Western Balkan countries, Turkey and Iceland may also join once they meet the conditions for membership. The aim of enlargement is simple: to extend the area of peace, stability, democracy and the rule of law, and prosperity and well-being throughout Europe. 

We draw particular attention to the statement by Commissioner Rehn of – democracy and the rule of law, as it is felt that despite Serbian animal welfare campaigners providing large amounts of evidence to Serbian legislators, no action appears to ever be taken by Serbian authorities to apply the rule of law, a fundamental condition necessary for EU membership.

If no action (in the form of prosecutions against animal cruelty) is being shown to be taken by Serbian legislators following the production of evidence and documented requests by animal welfare campaigners, then we declare that Serbia is not meeting some of the necessary and fundamental aims of EU enlargement with regard showing the implementation of both democracy (ie. requests by animal welfare campaigners) and the rule of law (ie. by not prosecuting perpetrators of causing animal suffering), even when evidence is provided. 

As a consequence, Signators of this petion request that Commissioner Rehn now fully investigates if there is actually any animal welfare legislation enforcement by Balkans states requiring EU membership prior to them being granted official EU membership.  Or is animal welfare legislation implementation simply being ignored.

We request the implementation of democracy and the rule of law for all animal welfare issues within Balkans states at all times prior to their EU Accession.  Where this is not happening, we rquest the EU demands it prior to accession.
