SAV: We Have Now Passed 100,000 Visitors !

Now is a good time to take a little look back at what has been happening since SAV was formed.

In the last few weeks we have gone through 100,000 visitors to the site – 103,000 to date to be exact.

You have provided us with 1,832 comments and we have posted 947 articles (posts) onto the site, broken down into the 25 different categories which we have in the site.

For visitors who are not familiar with the set up, you can go to the drop down shown as :

a – Select Category’ on the right hand side of the page. Using the drop down, you can then select any one of the 25 categories which we have on the site.

The Clustrmap http://www4.clustrmaps.com/counter/maps.php?user=9b44b4e0 shows the latest visitors to the site, and their country of origin. Note that this is archived on a regular basis and so the visitor figures given do not comply with the actual overall totals.

Below are copies of just some of the hundreds of photographs which we have on file showing the suffering of animals throughout the Balkans. Animal suffering happens the world over, but we were founded to be a voice for Serbian and Balkans animals, and so it is this location that we primarily concentrate on.

Using the category drop down detailed above, you can visit any particular nation which is of interest to you – Serbia, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, etc. There is a lot of information contained in these categories should you wish to have a look.

We have not yet achieved the goal that we set out for for the stray animals of the Balkans. That will take time. But we will never hold back on exposing the corruption and cruelty that is widespread throughout the Balkans states. Stray animals are suffering and dying when the law declares that they should be treated with respect and humane treatment. The authorities are regularly attempting to close down stray animal shelters so that those persons who have a vested interest in stray animal control, and who are associated with the local authorities, can continue their vile trade of inflicting suffering and death on innocent animals.

We have several important things going on at the moment and these will be made known via this site as and when the time is right. The next day or two are especially important for one campaigner in Serbia. We will provide more information in the coming week.

Thanks for your continued support and for being a voice for Balkans animals. With many Balkans states now seeking EU membership, we gather heart in the fact that with our good, important and legal contacts within the EU that we know through other animal investigation work, the future is going to be very much working for us. Animal abusers will not hide at the expense of inflicting animal suffering. We will attempt to seek them out and to provide all the evidence that we have to you via this site.

It is the government and the authorities who need to change their policy, not us.

As President Harry Trueman once said;

“I never give them hell; I just tell the truth and they think it’s hell”.

We intend to continue telling the truth.

And eventually, we will win for the animals.

Please, be a voice for animals in the Balkans;

Together we CAN make a difference.

Regards – SAV.

Serbia: A Letter Regarding Stray Animal Treatment From an Italian Campaigner.

The following is a letter which has been sent to Serbian officials especially regarding the treatment of strays in Nis.

It must be remembered that legislation to protect stray animals in NOT implemented throughout Serbia – avoiding the law and the killing of thousands of stray animals is a very profitable business for those who wish to look at no other alternatives. There are corrupt local authorities supported by corrupt republic authorities who have no intention to implement the law.

Instead, they continue to both dogcatchers and vets to kill stray dogs and cats by their thousands all over Serbia, in at least 170 cities and villages, including:

Nis, Belgrade, Novi Sad, Zrenjanin, Vranje, Kosjeric, Negotin, Kragujevac, Krusevac , Uzice, Smederevo,Subotica, Sombor, Vrsac, Velika Plana, Bor, Zajecar, Loznica ….etc……………….170 cities, and all villages are places for the unlawful catching and killing of stray dogs and cats – paid for using public money; a dirty neverending business of animal cruelty in Serbia due to non-implementation of nationally valid laws and inherrent corruption in the system.

Subject:BOYCOTT SERBIAN TOURISM AS LONG AS THERE’S KILLING OF THE STRAY ANIMALS ON THEIR STREETS

Honorable Officials:

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am very outraged and saddened to see the many cruelties and abuses against stray animals in Serbia. I use to love Serbia (ex-Yugoslavia), but now my love for your country had diminished because of your cruel and inhumane treatment of the all too many strays in your country. I am very disgusted by your lack of compassion and disregard for the lives of the animals in your country.

What happened with your country, the Serbia that I once loved!? I know there are caring, good and sensitive people who loved animals living in Serbia, but the authorities committing mass killings of strays as well as the euthanasia of strays makes me very angry.

Please STOP killing of the innocent stray dogs in the City of Nis, BUILD a new asulym and ANNOUNCE a new tender!

I am sending you an application against re-capture stray dogs in the city of Nis, which is not based on Animal Welfare Act, under the pretext of sterilization. The dogs are cached Anarchic and Brutally. They’re captured at random, stuffed into cages one over other, they sleep in their faeces and the question is whether they use to feed them or not — it says that there are a large number of them in one cage without food or water and the cages are very dirty.

Many dogs that are caught use to not be at the pound. They’re experiencing the death sentence by dog-catcher executioners on the road of no return (they use to be killed by the dog catchers on their way to the pound), which would be a gross violation of the Animal Welfare Act, and for which is the maximum penalty prescribed.

Tender for the sterilization was illegal (has been furnished) and won a man who is not a vet and expert who is previously well known by the killing of stray dogs (killer of stray dogs). Even if a dog survives sterilization, it has a big risk of mortality of sepsis in the harsh conditions in a cage, because its life on the street should be released only after recovery from sterilization.

That ‘s why I demand to let all dogs out of pound, do not catch and kill them any more, make a new asylum according to international standards, abolish illegal tender and announce another vet where expert and moral person will beat.

Therefore I request to help us, to immediately:

– all dogs to get released from the dog pound and to stop catching and killling them,

– to grant land to build a new asylum as soon as possible and to build the asylum by all international standards as well,

– to annul the illegal tender for the sterilization of dogs and launch a new race, which will get the one that does not trample ethics, and who will certainly and professionally conducts and performs its job.

Otherwise, I strongly protest your way of thinking and of handling the animals in Serbia, especially your cruel treatment of stray animals in the City of Nis. I will NOT visit Serbia UNTIL AND UNLESS these atrocities and your way of thinking of animals and stray animals change drastically. Until the authorities change the way they view and how they deal with animals and strays, not only will I not visit your country, but I will tell others of your crimes against innocent animals and urge them to BOYCOTT SERBIA TOURISM as well..

It is your duty to be aware of the situation and to care for all of the animals of Serbia properly and with compassion. The world is watching you. The time for change is now.

Sincerely,

Carmen

Uk: ‘A Christmas Puppy’ by Maria Daines. Please Do NOT Give Puppies as Presents at Christmas.

A great new poem, ‘A Christmas Puppy’, from the brilliant Maria Daines; visit her site at:

http://www.maria-daines.com/

Maria says:

Hi

I wrote & recorded this poem as a video in hopes of reminding the public that breeding dogs to be sold as presents this Christmas is irresponsible and will ultimately cost lives, could you share if poss, thanks xx

Listen to the poem at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vd0zQzrOMyc

The photographs in this video are pictures of homeless, unwanted dogs that I have received in appeals from desperate rescuer’s trying to save their lives. Shelters are overflowing and thousands of dogs are being put to death every week because of overbreeding. We cannot continue this way. Human kind has created this holocaust for our companion pets. Last year I counted the puppies for sale in my local free advertiser newspaper, there were over 500 in just one week leading up to Christmas. It’s time we stopped breeding dogs as products for profit. It’s time to stop the overpopulation of man’s best friend and it’s time to educate people that dogs are not toys you can grow tired of and neglect. It’s time to save lives…

‘A Christmas Puppy’

They took you in then they soon found out
You were trouble to them, now they want you out!
They don’t want your noise, your little accidents
They just want peace, and good riddance!
They thought a dog would be fun, they’d take it for walks
But a few months later, they shout when you bark
A few months later the walks are no more…
You sit by the window and stare at the door
You’ve nothing to do but what do they care
You’re no longer a pup and they’ve no money to spare
So you don’t get your walks and you’ll sometimes go hungry
They’ll go to the pub and piss up their money
You’ll get tied in the garden come rain or come shine
You’re slowly forgotten under the washing line
You’ll wander in circles and sleep out the hours
Chew on your tail and dig up the flowers
You’ll hear other dogs as they pass on the street
You’ll long to be with them, share a game, have a treat
But no one in your house will notice your plight
As they close the curtains and turn on the lights
The winter will come and they’ve almost forgotten…
That there’s you in the cold and your dog house is sodden
You’ve nothing to play with and nothing to eat
And nobody can see you through the fence from the street
You’ve sat there for months in your own quiet hell
A puppy they bought off a bloke they knew well
He’s got a new litter n’ he’s selling again
And already it’s Christmas, but now you’re in pain
Your eyes are like hollows, your ribs are on show
You’re broken by sorrow but nobody knows
As you lick your sore feet and wince, how you hurt…
You’re wasting away to a grave in the dirt
But inside the festive dinner is served
And a present is given to a very young girl
She screams with joy as the box opens up
And there in the corner, is a new fluffy pup!
Farewell to young Bess in the garden, you died…
You didn’t have long, a year then goodbye
They buried you, said you were sickly and bad
But this new dog they’ve got is the best that they’ve had.

We want the House of Representatives to AMEND THE LAW to Prohibit Factory Farms in New Zealand
Our Animal Welfare Act 1999 is for the welfare of animals and NOT for the benefit of humans. It states that all animals should “be able to display normal patterns of behaviour”. Intensive farming occurs because of exemptions allowed in the Act. This is solely for economic self-interest within the industry.
This petition requests that the House of Representatives amend the Animal Welfare Act 1999 as follows:

1. Remove Section 191. (These are “Codes of Conduct” allowing exceptions to the Act drafted by the users themselves, for their economic benefit).

2. Remove Section 73 (3). (This clause is often used for exemptions “in exceptional circumstances”. i.e. it permits cruel practices for economic reasons).

3. Update Section 4 (b) to: Adequate shelter: “which must not restrict freedom of movement nor confine animals indoors on a continuous daily basis”.

4. Add to Section 4 a new clause (f): “Animals are recognised as sentient beings and are to be treated with respect”.

5. Add to Section 4 a new clause (g): “Exemptions from this Act cannot be justified for economic reasons”.

6. Specifically ban cages in the production of eggs and in the farming of pigs.

7. Specifically ban practices that prevent adequate natural sunlight from being available to any farmed animal on a prolonged basis.

These updates will mean that the industries involved will have to comply within the definitions of the Act without exceptions. Some immediate effects will be the end of battery hen cages, the end of sow crates, the end of forced growth programs and overcrowding in the raising of broiler chickens.
