Nepal: a performance video against the mass murder in Gadhimai

Nepal isn’t known for its metal scene, but Underside have emerged nonetheless and they aren’t just playing awesomely heavy music – they are also protesting the beliefs of the country and religious doctrine they grew up with.

Their latest track and subsequent video is specifically targeting religious festival, Gadhimai, where thousands of animals are killed in the name of a god.

Gadhimai is a festival where hundreds of thousands of animals are sacrificed in the name of god. If you put that in perspective, it’s hard to imagine that it’s still happening you know.

“We see it as ignorance and a perfect example of how religious doctrines blinds you and that killing innocent animals are justified.

“We want to send our message that we don’t support killing of animals and this video is rather symbolic where Gadhimai (goddess) finally wakes up and kills all her ignorant followers. The whole concept started from challenging the existing practice and us imagining would ‘God’ really want blood of these innocent animals if all the creatures were created by god as they say?”

Barcelona and the ZOOXXI initiative

The ZOOXXI Platform warns that the campaign does not end here and encourages all zoos worldwide to “cross the doors to the 21st century”

During today’s plenary session at the Barcelona City Council, the last session of this term, the ZOOXXI Citizens’ Initiative has been passed.

The initiative proposes a modification of the Animal Protection, Possession and Sale Ordinance, which affects the Barcelona zoo.

After more than 10 years of investigation, mobilization and socialization for this project, this animal rights platform, now known for launching the first Citizens’ Initiative in Barcelona, has seen the ordinance be finally passed. It will drastically change Barcelona’s current zoo model.

The proposal includes a paradigm shift that can allow the zoo “to open up to nature” and invest most of its efforts on in-situ conservation for the protection of natural habitats.

The Platform also suggests the application of Compassionate Conservation and the creation of the first Scientific Studies Center on Animal Sentience.

The new zoo model will encourage an educational model based on empathy towards animals, which according to scientific studies and various pilot studies, contributes to the prevention of bullying and results in better prosocial behavior while creating a “culture of peace”.

My comment: An interesting initiative and certainly an improvement over most of the current zoos.
However, the prerequisite is that we consider a zoo to be necessary, ethically acceptable and justifiable.

Nowhere we have read about the rights of these individual animals imprisoned for the stupid fun of the masses.
We also have not read about keeping iconic animals because they are a public magnet, like big cats, elephants, giraffes, etc.
Nowhere have we read about the conditions and the reproduction of natural habitats.

Perhaps there is much more information than in this small part, but this report has given the impression that it is more an improvement of slavery than a radical reform.
This is somewhat reminiscent of the debate on the cage size of lab rats instead of banning the systems that capture and use them.

Are farmers victims?

“Murderers”, “animal torturers”, “exploiters”, “criminals”, “you should be slaughtered” – farmers who keep livestock are confronted with hate mailings on Facebook. This is shown by a study by the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna.

According to study author Christian Dürnberger from the Ethics of Human-Animal Relations Department of the Messerli Research Institute of Vetmeduni, farmers who present their work in social networks are accused of “forcing and rape cows”.

Again and again there are Holocaust comparisons and personal criticisms, insults or threats, even to their children. Literal citations are, for example, “Your children should also be fried” or “Your children should die of cancer”!

Farmers are increasingly being challenged to find new ways of communicating, especially in the sense of a more direct dialogue with consumers and citizens.

My comment:  So I propose a rescue operation for the farmers: they take over the role of the animals:

which they rape
which they hold in dark stables for life
which they separate from their children when they are born,
which they do not treat when they get sick and old,
which they send as little babies in the transports ….

On this way, the farmers will not be the victims anymore!

Farmers Liberation!

If farmers feel that the “Shitstorm” is based on false facts, then they would not mind a role reversal.

The betrayal of the EU to the animals

The EU has betrayed the “European idea” for democracy, solidarity and peace: the euro and banking crisis, migration crisis, foreign policy, economic policy … all this is in the EU’s account and we could even call it a heresy
But the worst betrayal of the EU is the betrayal of the animals.

On 14.02.2019, the majority of the EU Parliament rejected significant improvements for animal transport within the EU and in third countries.

A black day for the animals.

Also proposed improvements for torture conditions in transports in non-EU countries, such as Egypt or Turkey, were not accepted.

The transport business requires 1.4 billion animals per year, of which 4 million “livestock” are transported from the EU to third countries every year: cattle, pigs, sheep and hens are these “slaughter animals”, who suffer cruelly in the transport – despite legal EU regulations.

Polish non-attached MEP Dobromir Sośnierz (MEP of the reactionary party Wolność / KORWIN) said in his speech to the European Commission, “Animals do not pay taxes and therefore we should not talk about them!”

We want to remind him that animals pay with their lives for people to make money. No EU- law protects them as persons, they apply as raw materials.

We only ask ourselves with horror, why should we pay the salary of such a mindless person.

Vietnam: animal cruelty as a tradition

Injured buffaloes at the Do-Son Buffalo Fight Festival, Hanoi

Animal welfare groups, the media and the public are shocked by animal cruel videos shot in the capital Hanoi.

A pack of hunting dogs mangles and kills a single boar – as a “highlight” of a club event.

The fight was organized by a group of Argentine mastiff enthusiasts in an empty field in the southwest of Hanoi. The video shows a single boar released from a cage and a pack of mastiffs mauling the animal, cheered on by their owners and watchers. As the boar’s squeals eventually subside, all that is left is a bloody mess.

The recording was made on March 18, 2018 in the suburb of Hanoi. Millions have seen it on Facebook – and damn. The graphic footage has invoked wrath and revulsion from viewers on social media. Vu Ngoc Thanh, an animal expert, said the event was “barbaric and uncivilized.”

“Where is the humanity in this?” he said.

But despite the general anger over this bloodthirsty event, the organizers remain stubborn.
One of the participating young men told the media:
“We do not stop because it’s not illegal – we just do not want it on social networks anymore.”

However, the brazen comments on the participants ignore the attitude of the authorities, which have pledged to crack down on it.

Animal welfare has become increasingly important in Vietnam’s public debate in recent years.

Animals Asia released a cruel Spring Festival in which a pig had been chopped in half. The condemnation by the public and their demand to suppress such practices resulted in the prohibition of numerous barbarous festivals.

In Germany, there are also atrocities against wild boars, which are crushed by hunting dogs.

Not at festivals, but in the hunt for blood orgies in the woods.

But where cruelty happens in the name of tradition, we will never be tired of publishing it.

No matter where it happens.

We no longer leave this brutal, morbid and irrational custom to a small group of this society that wants to savor its sadism and crime under the guise of tradition.
We act, now and everywhere.

First stroke, then slaughter

Leeds, UK: They are first fed and then slaughtered: dealing with two pigs at a British school provides heated discussions.

The two Gloucester Old Spot breed pigs being reared on the farm.

Because the supervising headmaster Peter Harris wants to slaughter the animals during the summer holidays.

This is how the children should learn where their meat comes from.

“The pigs will not be pets and only be with us for nine months,” read the school homepage. “The pigs will live twice as long as those commercially bred for slaughter and will live a true and free farm life.”

The meat is to be sold afterwards.

For this at least unusual action receives the British teacher much headwind – but also support. The comments on the school homepage contain both clear hostility and support for the idea of explaining to children the origin of their food. The Internet already has an online petition urging headteacher Peter Harris to abandon the plans has been running for around six months now and has gathered more than 4,000 signatures.

Petition: https://www.change.org/p/mr-harris-headteacher-farsley-farfield-don-t-send-pigs-to-slaughter

And we mean:  “The pigs will not be domestic animals and only live with us for nine months”
That’s how Mr. Harris decided.
Which is not very different from that practiced by the butcher next door.
The butcher also says, like Mr. Harris, that pigs are not home animals, but food for children, teachers and other animal-loving meat consumers!!

But Mr. Harris does not want to be compared to butchers, that’s why he changes the decor a bit.

And Mr. Harris means that as soon as he keeps the two pigs as free copies of the meat industry in the garden of the school, the children know the full truth of where their meat comes from.

So far, it is going well with the “truth”, but with the finale of this action, Mr. Harris has some difficulties.

Either way, he has to butcher the pigs, and in front of the children.
He has to do that so that his message arrives, namely: even free-living pigs do not escape the butcher’s sharp knife.
Such is the fate of non-pets, that’s what we humans have decided.
(Except of Korean, Chinese, Indonesian and Vietnamese pets, of course).

We would recommend to Mr. Harris to visit a pig farm with his students so that he can conduct his experiment under “realistic” conditions.
And to prove us all that he is serious about education!
