We have recently had photographs in of an alleged illegal makeshift trailer which is used by dogcatchers of Avenija MB.
A formal charge has also been made against this private firm Avenija MB, who catch dogs in no less than 30 communities all over Serbia. They have 21 cages, each of which holds 4-6 dogs.
But they also allegedly undertake the illegal catching and transportation of dogs. Probably around 2,000 from 26/3/13 to the present day. Nobody is able to trace these dogs or know where they are. It is known that many of the municipalities which Avenija MB work in pay them illegally and set up unlawful contracts.
It is time that the Serbian government woke up to the situation, especially if it wants to join the EU, and is required by law to show the EU ‘rules of law’ ARE being applied – that is that things are being done legally; which we doubt here. The setting up of unlawful contracts is not allowed by EU law. We are passing all our information, including the photographs, to the EU.
Slavica is writing to inform the OIE and the AWG of the situation; because we think that they (dogcatchers) are undertaking the illegal transportation of non-microchipped animals for which the health status is unknown. There is always the danger of disease spread with such activities.
For obvious reasons, we are not publishing all the information that is known about Nenad Stevanovic, who we understand is the Serbian Director of Avenija MB and at the same time it appears the Director of private firm AvenijaMB. This is against the law (public and private directorships) and we are investigating further.

Dear Mark,
Shrimp trawling is one of the primary threats to sea turtle survival in the United States. Every year, the shrimp trawl fishery incidentally captures and kills thousands of sea turtles, including the critically endangered Kemp’s ridley.
For a short time, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is accepting public comments as it prepares an Environmental Impact Statement and reevaluates how to manage the shrimp trawl fishery.
We need you to send an email by April 29th.
“Turtle excluder devices,” or TEDs, prevent turtles from drowning in nets, but limited applicability and lax enforcement have led to thousands of sea turtle deaths. Turtle Island is requesting that all shrimp vessels using “skimmer trawls” that are currently exempt from using TEDs should be required to use TEDs. Turtle Island is also requesting that NMFS consider additional protective measures including increased observer coverage and increased enforcement of existing and future TEDs rules.
Please give sea turtles a voice and let officials know they need to do more to protect sea turtles from the shrimp trawl fishery!

One organisation that we really do have so much respect for.
It’s not uncommon in India to see wells, drains, pits and tanks of one kind or another left open with no barrier or warning signs where any child or animal could fall in and be completely unable to get out on their own.
We received a call on our helpline for a puppy who had fallen into an open sewage tank (for human waste).
The puppy’s sorrowful moans echoed against the walls as Ganpat heroically let himself be lowered head first into the septic tank in order to save this puppy’s life. You’ll see in this video, the puppy was literally just a few moments from drowning and death.
In the days after the rescue, his fearful heart began to melt, through love.

Berry had been dragged by a hit and run driver. A kind person called us to the rescue and when we arrived, her back was arched in pain and she was bleeding from multiple deep gashes. Calves and cows are so fragile and sensitive—their size is large compared to a dog, but their sweet natures are extremely delicate. Berry was traumatized. Her heart beat too fast and we were afraid she might go into shock. But as you’ll see in the video above, medical treatment and loving kindness awakened one of the most zippy, playful little sprites we’ve ever seen. Meet Berry and get ready to kick up your heels.
We found her lying in a trash pit with a gaping hole in her stomach. The neighbors who had called us to come rescue her said she had somehow gotten the injury 3 days ago but then she disappeared, otherwise they would have called us earlier. She must have gone to hide in the nearby bushes, in too much pain to come out for food or water. She could barely move when we found her but with the remaining strength she had she wagged her tail as if to tell us everything she had endured, and she truly seemed to know that her now she was going to get better.
Lola’s enormous wound would have become horribly infected and she would have become sick and almost certainly died without the life-saving treatment that your generous support enabled us to give her

Ten years ago, sealers killed about 350,000 seals, but last year, that number dropped to 35,000—the lowest in 20 years.
Fewer than 1,000 sealers have participated in the slaughter in recent years.
Because of a lack of markets for seal products, the slaughter is costing Canada millions more to support than it earns, and seal fur processors admit that they are stockpiling pelts because they can’t sell them.
Still, tens of thousands of seals are expected to be killed in the coming weeks.
Canada’s new prime minister, Justin Trudeau, supports many progressive social issues, and now we’re urging him to extend his compassion further and begin a new era of kindness and financial responsibility by ending federal subsidies of the commercial seal slaughter.
Let him know that the power to stop this atrocity is in his hands …
… and that the world is ready for Canada to stop slaughtering baby seals!
The U.S., the European Union, and Russia have all already banned seal-fur imports.
Boycott Canada and ALL Canadian Products.
