China: Tigers Defy Circus Cruelty to Show Empathy for Suffering Friend.

Tigers defy circus cruelty to show empathy for suffering friend

10 March 2017

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mp3kQAkvZc

With their friend at risk of drowning, this incredible footage shows white tigers breaking from circus cruelty to show their concern.

It’s the movie which has convinced 29 million Chinese viewers that these tigers were not born to perform – they do so under duress, not because they enjoy it.

During a routine tiger performance at an animal circus in Hangzhou Safari Park, a rare White Tiger can be seen refusing to perform.

After clenching the ringmaster’s whip in his jaws, the tiger is whipped and threatened, forcing him to back off and accidently stumble into a moat surrounding the ring.

With one tiger at risk of drowning, the others immediately break from their circus performance to try to attend to their friend. Their concern is clear.

The ringmasters attempt to break up the tigers using whips and shouts leaves the long-suffering animals clearly torn between avoiding the whips and helping their stricken friend.

In the latter part of the video, released on Chinese social media by a concerned citizen, one of the tigers is seen with a wound on their face, possibly as a result of the incident.

Animals Asia’s Animal Welfare Director Dave Neale said:

“The video clearly shows the tigers empathising with the plight of their peer. They know he is in trouble and needs help and they want to give it to him. They are torn between their training with its threat of violence and their natural sympathy for another tiger in danger.”

As a result of the sustained criticism caused by the video, Hangzhou Safari Park has suspended their tiger performances pending a review of their practices.

Unlike the tigers in the video, we have a choice.

Choose to help. Pledge never to watch an animal performance and tell everyone you know to do the same.

UK: Are Hunts Spreading BovineTB?

Are hunts spreading bovineTB?
Contact the government and ask them to suspend all hunting

SAV Comment – but badgers are paying the price – currently being killed by Defra in selected zones.

Bovine TB, the disease ravaging herds of cattle across England and Wales, has been discovered in a pack of hounds used for fox hunting. Between 25 and 40 hounds from this pack have already been put down.

However, we estimate that there are more than 3,000 hunting hounds in the bTb epidemic zone alone, which may be out in the countryside an average of two days a week during the six-month hunting season.

Hunting needs to be suspended indefinitely to ensure that the thousands of hounds used in the ‘sport’ cannot spread the disease.

If the hounds infected each other, they may have infected other packs when taken out to country shows. It is also possible that beagles or harrier packs, that may share the same fields, are also at risk of getting infected.

If other packs of hounds were invited as guests in the Kimblewick Hunt’s territory, those hounds could have been infected in the same way, and then taken the disease to their own territory when they returned home.

The ramifications of this are staggering not only for the British countryside, but those who live in it and those who enjoy it.

Please contact Defra and ask them to urgently suspend hunting to prevent further outbreak.

from Olympic visitors!

The PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics is less than a year away. On our “Boycott PyeongChang 2018 Action Center” we have a list of actions you can take to protest South Korea’s horrific cruelty of its dog and cat meat industry.

Below is a translation of Korea Animal Rights Advocates’ (KARA) commentary regarding PyeongChang’s plan to dodge criticism of Korea’s dog meat cruelty. Please read and share. Click HERE to read from our homepage.

Gangwon Province is currently making preparations to welcome guests to the Winter Olympics, which will be held in February 2018. To alleviate the shortage of lodging accommodations and restaurants, and to create income for agricultural households, support will be provided to the hospitality industry to strengthen the spirit of service as well as networking with the local agricultural community to introduce Korean culture to the visitors. In addition, certain restaurants that may evoke negative emotions from foreign visitors will undergo renovations, including new signage, in order to conceal the underlying cause of the controversy and avert debate.

What is the underlying cause of the expected negative emotions from the Winter Olympics guests? 18 dog meat restaurants in Gangwon Province around Pyeongchang and Gangneung. The government will subsidize up to 10,000,000 won for each restaurant to change their signs (3,000,000) and renovate their facilities (7,000,000). 50% of the cost for this project will be paid by the Province and 50% by the city.

South Korea: New Presedential Leader Brings Hope For Animals. USA Governor Puts Economics Before Animal Welfare – Very Trump !

south-kores

Soon, there will be a Presidential election in South Korea, 60 days after the final ruling by the Constitutional Court, impeaching their current president, Geun-Hye Park (the first female president in Korea) who is accused of corruption.

Even if the court rules in her favor, Park’s term will come to an end in just one year.

Right now in Korea, the presidential hopefuls’ campaigns are in full swing. The unchallenged frontrunner in the poll is Mr. Moon Jae-In and he is the most likely candidate to strengthen the Animal Protection Law and help the animals in Korea.

korea-pres-potential

We support him and his pledge to lead his nation into a more ethical and compassionate society by improving the welfare of animals.

He has posted a story about a stray dog who came into his life and what he had learned from that experience.

Moon Jae-In responds to animal friends:

I was happy because I had companions like Jjingjjing and Maru.
They gave me much comfort and joy.
Now, it’s my turn to help them.

I will strengthen the Animal Protection Laws and Animal Administration.
There will be no more cruel slaughter or burying alive of animals.
In order to stop the animals being killed in laboratory testing, I will ban all animal testing in the cosmetic industry and I will invest in researching the alternatives.

I will try to improve the lives of abandoned and stray animals.

You must be happy before we can be happy.
Now together, we may dream of happiness.

Putting Economics Before Animal Welfare  – Michigan Governor’s Office replies, but declines to take action.

We received a response from the offices of Governor Rick Snyder, in Michigan, regarding our campaign asking them to take action over the dog-meat trade in Gyeonggi Province in South Korea, who they have business-related agreements with.

And, whilst we are grateful for a response from Governor Snyder’s Office (on so many occasions we fail to get any sort of response from the many people and offices contacted across the globe), we are disappointed to hear that all they advise is for us to contact ‘the entities in question directly’ in South Korea.

The Governor’s representative also states that Michigan does not have a friendship agreement with South Korea, only various agreements for the benefit of economic growth etc., from which we infer that they feel unable to address the dog-meat issue with their counterparts.

We feel that they could have taken simple action, like many Mayors have done, but they declined to do so and have chosen to look the other way, putting their economic interests first and ignoring the immense suffering and terrible injustice inflicted on these animals.

UK: CONSERVATIVE Christopher Chope OBE MP Talks Out A Ban On The Use Of Animals In Circuses – Just Like He Did Before – Contact Your MP And Ask Why. They Work For You; You Are NOT Their Servants !

Subject: CIRCUS BILL – PLEASE CONTACT YOUR MP !

ring-3

As you may know, the ban for wild animals in circuses was again blocked last week by Conservative MP Christopher Chope. He did the same in 2014.

get-involved-2

Please write to your MP as this is again being discussed in Parliament on 24th March.

Please see http://www.ad-international.org/animals_in_entertainment/go.php?id=4305&ssi=10

ring-2

Here are some details of the man who has twice blocked this bill:

Christopher Chope represents Christchurch in Dorset for 20 years with a majority of 18000 and his constituency has the highest proportion of over 60s in the UK.

Filibustering should be banned in Parliament – A deliberate tactic to talk too long and thus  selfishly, arrogantly and bullyingly talking out a motion that can then not be voted on.

Christopher Chope also blocked this bill in 2014.  He was also responsible for steering through the poll tax in the Thatcher Government, voted against same sex marriage, is a climate change sceptic, called for abolition of Minimum wage in the same year he claimed £136,992 in expenses! and voted against Alan Turin statutory pardon.  Voted against a private members’ bill which would have placed restrictions on hospital parking charges for carers.                           SHAMEFUL!

circus-no-smile

Here is a letter that one of ADI’s supporters received from Chope – his arrogance is beyond belief !

“Parliamentary protocol dictates that Members ought not to respond to correspondence from non-constituents. Nonetheless, I appreciate the time you have taken to get in touch.

The Government has promised to bring forward Government legislation on the issue of animals in circuses.  It was not included in the Queen’s Speech on the grounds that there was a lack of Parliamentary time. The Government has pointed out, however, that, should more time become available during the course of this Session, such a Bill will be brought forward.

In light of the above, the attempt to bring forward this controversial legislation under the Private Member’s procedure is ill-conceived. I believe that it would be unacceptable for such a Bill to receive a Second Reading without any debate in the House of Commons.

I shall continue to put pressure on the Government to honour its promise to bring forward its own legislation.

Best wishes

Why not send him an e mail ?

More than 10 years ago there was a public consultation on the use of animals in UK circuses.

circus-cartoon

Over 84% of the British public wanted circuses to stop using animals in performances.  Thanks to people like Chope we have still not got legislation passed to do this – constant talking out in parliament by just a few members of Parliament.  Shame on them !

They are supposed to represent us – not be an emperor figure like Trump who only does what he wants !

Stop City’s Planned Coyote Slaughter

get-involved-2take-action-3

Petition Linkhttps://forcechange.com/182451/stop-unnecessary-coyote-killings/

Target: Tom Beck, Mayor of Arcadia, California

Goal: Reverse your decision to slaughter coyotes.

Recently, the Arcadia City Council voted to hire a contractor to kill coyotes as a means of population control. This slaughter is cruel, ineffective and must be stopped.

The current plan would call for the contractor to trap and then kill numerous coyotes. Trapping is an extremely cruel and stressful situation for wild animals, which in this case is then followed by a brutal execution. It can also catch non-targeted animals including protected wildlife. Animals have been known to chew off limbs in order to escape traps. This trap and slaughter practice often leads to orphaned wildlife which is typically a death sentence for these animals, as well.

Sign this petition and demand the City of Arcadia spare these innocent animals’ lives. This is not only incredible cruel, but research has shown that mass killings are not an effective method of population control.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mayor Beck,

Recently, your city council voted to spend taxpayer money to hire a contractor to trap and slaughter coyotes as a means of population control. This plan is not only cruel, but ineffective as well.

Trapping is an incredibly stressful experience for wild animals. It can often lead to serious injuries and animals have been known to chew off limbs in order to escape traps. Traps can also catch non-target animals including protected wildlife and domesticated animals. After this horrible ordeal, the animal is brutally killed. This often leads to orphaned wildlife which typically leads to their deaths, as well.

Please consider reversing your decision and sparing the lives of countless innocent coyotes. Research has shown that mass killings are not an effective method of population control.

Sincerely,
