The ‘Green’ Animal Welfare Betrayer ? ! ?

– David Cameron MP – will this pro-hunt Prime Minister (Uk) who promised to run ‘the greenest government ever’ now do yet another U turn and be the biggest wildlife criminal the Uk has seen ?

On Monday, it was revealed that the government might scrap vital laws which protect wildlife and the countryside and help stop climate change. Hardliners have branded the rules ‘red tape’ and say they could be scrapped within months. [1]

We need to work together to make sure our wildlife, our countryside and our planet are protected.

In the past, David Cameron has made headlines promising to run “the greenest government ever”. [2] We need to convince him that scrapping these laws would be a disaster for his reputation. A huge petition will prove to Cameron that he can’t afford to break his green promises.

Among the laws under threat are the Climate Change Act and the Wildlife and Countryside Act. These aren’t little-known laws that no one cares about. The Wildlife and Countryside Act protects wild birds, their nests and eggs, and makes sure that national parks and marine reserves are protected. The UK’s Climate Change Act was a world first which helps make sure we reduce our emissions. [3]

We know that when we work together we can make sure the government doesn’t get away with plans which could hurt the environment. When they decided to try to sell off our forests, over half a million of us got together and convinced them to drop their plans. [4]

The government says it is “consulting” before scrapping these laws – so let’s give them a consultation response they can’t ignore! Please help make sure we have a huge petition telling the government to keep laws which protect our wildlife and our environment.

Civilized people everywhere are disgusted, horrified, outraged by the treatment of stray animals in Greece. This problem is ongoing and pervasive and it’s apparent that Greek officials have no intention of doing anything about it. I’ll NEVER visit Greece again and have informed all my animal loving friends and family about the unconscionable, inhumane abuse of animals in Greece, the cradle of uncivilized cruelty! (zelda)

The entire time the calf was calling for his mother who remained 40 yards away not wanting to leave. He had two choices. Let it slowly die calling to its mother, or use a knife. He did the humane thing and took out his knife.

On Thursday 26th May we plan to hold a protest in London close to the Romanian Embassy and also walk along to the Romanian Consulate Office , both located in Kensington.  This is long over-due given the fact that most other Western European  and Northern European have already held large and effective protests against the proposed change in the law which would allow the Romanian authorities to systematically massacre hundred of thousands of street and shelter dogs…. all in the name of money allowing corrupt businesses to get very rich on the back of slaughter!

The vote to bring on whether to bring in this law has been postponed several times already largely due to the pressure from the animal loving International community and from those within Romania itself.

Kendra and myself have quickly put together the website below specifically for this event.  On here you will find information being updated constantly, links to FB, Twitter, Blogs etc. There are also car sharing opportunities listed if you’re not based in/around London.

PLEASE join us, this really could be our last chance to take a stand!  If enough people turn out on the day it will send a message LOUD AND CLEAR that mass illegal killings of this kind will not be tolerated.  Although those in power in Romania care little for animals they DO care about their image and standing in Europe and so will definitely take note!!.  We have to hold the protest on a week day to avoid the Consulate and the Embassy being closed.  We are working in conjunction with the police and they have helped us establish a meeting place, a route etc.  We’ve also been granted permission to deliver by hand any petitions directly to the Embassy.

If you really can’t attend, we ask you to kindly crosspost, forward and share this email to any and all animal loving friends, family and colleagues.

Adopted ‘Rommies’ would be most welcome on the day so please bring them along… they will make perfect mascots and ambassadors for their fellow dogs at risk back home!

In 1977, Otterness was involved in another art project. He bought a shelter dog, chained it to a fence, shot it to death and filmed the murder in a movie he called ‘Shot Dog Film.’

This crime has tainted any work he shows, publicly, and it would be a disgrace for the NY Public Library to let this project proceed.

Background (Preamble):

Petition:

We, the undersigned, are outraged that Tom Otterness has been commissioned to create a sculpture for the New York Public Library. In 1977, Otterness adopted a dog from a shelter, chained it to a fence, shot it to death and filmed his crime in a movie, killing a living creature who trusted him for the sake of ‘art.’ To our minds, his finished product was essentially a snuff film and he committed a heinous and vicious crime.

That he should now receive a $750,000 commission for an art project in a public library is unconscionable. Though Otterness has apologized, we recognize this as little more than lip service. His anti-social behavior makes him the worst possible candidate imaginable to create sculptures for a building that supposedly functions for the public good.

If Otterness is permitted to complete this project, the only decent thing to do would be to dedicate this sculpture to the dog he murdered and his commission should go toward caring for the homeless animals of New York City. Since he received no jail sentence, that would be the only way he could do penance for his crime.

EU: 1 Day to Save Herbal Medicine!

In 1 day, the EU will ban much of herbal medicine, pressing more of us to take pharmaceutical drugs that drive the profits of big Pharma.

The EU Directive erects high barriers to any herbal remedy that hasn’t been on the market for 30 years — including virtually all Chinese, Ayurvedic, and African traditional medicine. It’s a draconian move that helps drug companies and ignores thousands of years of medical knowledge.

We need a massive outcry against this. Together, our voices can press the EU Commission to fix the directive, push our national governments to refuse to implement it, and give legitimacy to a legal case before the courts.
