Uk: **Uk Residents ONLY ** – David Cameron MP – Uk Prime Minister – Is He Now Going to U Turn on His Green Government Promise and Betray British Wildlife ?? – Petition To Sign Please.

The ‘Green’ Animal Welfare Betrayer ? ! ?

– David Cameron MP – will this pro-hunt Prime Minister (Uk) who promised to run ‘the greenest government ever’ now do yet another U turn and be the biggest wildlife criminal the Uk has seen ?

On Monday, it was revealed that the government might scrap vital laws which protect wildlife and the countryside and help stop climate change. Hardliners have branded the rules ‘red tape’ and say they could be scrapped within months. [1]

We need to work together to make sure our wildlife, our countryside and our planet are protected.

In the past, David Cameron has made headlines promising to run “the greenest government ever”. [2] We need to convince him that scrapping these laws would be a disaster for his reputation. A huge petition will prove to Cameron that he can’t afford to break his green promises.

*** UK RESIDENTS ONLY ***

Please take 30 seconds to speak up for legal protection for wildlife and the environment:

http://www.38degrees.org.uk/

Among the laws under threat are the Climate Change Act and the Wildlife and Countryside Act. These aren’t little-known laws that no one cares about. The Wildlife and Countryside Act protects wild birds, their nests and eggs, and makes sure that national parks and marine reserves are protected. The UK’s Climate Change Act was a world first which helps make sure we reduce our emissions. [3]

We know that when we work together we can make sure the government doesn’t get away with plans which could hurt the environment. When they decided to try to sell off our forests, over half a million of us got together and convinced them to drop their plans. [4]

The government says it is “consulting” before scrapping these laws – so let’s give them a consultation response they can’t ignore! Please help make sure we have a huge petition telling the government to keep laws which protect our wildlife and our environment.

Sign the petition to send a powerful message to David Cameron and the government:

Thanks for being involved,

Hannah, David, Johnny, Charlotte and the 38 Degrees Team

PS: The laws under threat in the government’s “red tape challenge” include the Climate Change Act, National Parks Act, Clean Air Act and the Wildlife and Countryside Act. Do these sound like “red tape” to you? Please add your name and tell the government that protecting our countryside and our planet should be a priority: http://www.38degrees.org.uk/dont-scrap-environment-laws

Civilized people everywhere are disgusted, horrified, outraged by the treatment of stray animals in Greece. This problem is ongoing and pervasive and it’s apparent that Greek officials have no intention of doing anything about it. I’ll NEVER visit Greece again and have informed all my animal loving friends and family about the unconscionable, inhumane abuse of animals in Greece, the cradle of uncivilized cruelty! (zelda)

The entire time the calf was calling for his mother who remained 40 yards away not wanting to leave. He had two choices. Let it slowly die calling to its mother, or use a knife. He did the humane thing and took out his knife.

And finally  – Protest in London about Romanian strays:

Dear Friends,

On Thursday 26th May we plan to hold a protest in London close to the Romanian Embassy and also walk along to the Romanian Consulate Office , both located in Kensington.  This is long over-due given the fact that most other Western European  and Northern European have already held large and effective protests against the proposed change in the law which would allow the Romanian authorities to systematically massacre hundred of thousands of street and shelter dogs…. all in the name of money allowing corrupt businesses to get very rich on the back of slaughter!

The vote to bring on whether to bring in this law has been postponed several times already largely due to the pressure from the animal loving International community and from those within Romania itself.

Kendra and myself have quickly put together the website below specifically for this event.  On here you will find information being updated constantly, links to FB, Twitter, Blogs etc. There are also car sharing opportunities listed if you’re not based in/around London.

http://afra.moonfruit.com/

PLEASE join us, this really could be our last chance to take a stand!  If enough people turn out on the day it will send a message LOUD AND CLEAR that mass illegal killings of this kind will not be tolerated.  Although those in power in Romania care little for animals they DO care about their image and standing in Europe and so will definitely take note!!.  We have to hold the protest on a week day to avoid the Consulate and the Embassy being closed.  We are working in conjunction with the police and they have helped us establish a meeting place, a route etc.  We’ve also been granted permission to deliver by hand any petitions directly to the Embassy.

If you really can’t attend, we ask you to kindly crosspost, forward and share this email to any and all animal loving friends, family and colleagues.

Adopted ‘Rommies’ would be most welcome on the day so please bring them along… they will make perfect mascots and ambassadors for their fellow dogs at risk back home!

Warmest wishes

Chrissy xx

EU: International Call For the EU to Introduce an 8 Hour Maximum Journey Time for All Animals in Transport – Petition Link and Paper Copy to Download.

Link:   http://www.8hours.eu/8hours_en

As someone who has personally been involved with live animal transport investigations for the last 22 years, as well as:

  • making presentations to the Uk Agriculture Ministry regarding horse export investigations
  • being the author of over 20 formal complaints to the EU Legal Affairs team in Brussels regarding live animal (calf and sheep) transport investigations,
  • being the author of a recent investigation report into the calf export trade from Ireland to mainland Europe, undertaken as a combined series of investigations by european animal welfare groups,

it can be clearly said that I personally have a real hatred of witnessing animals being transported for hours and hours packed inside livestock transporters.

Part of the title of my most recent report for the EU, which was produced last August, simply said “Time for Change“.  Now, more than ever, it is time for change within the EU regarding transport times for live animals.

COVER

I ask you please to put your name to the campaign which is being presented here by Christa and Dan which calls for a maximum duration of 8 hours for all livestock being transported within the EU.

I am informed from my very helpful contacts at the EU Legal Affairs team in Brussels, that all of our investigation work and public support for reduced transportation hours are very much being listened to.  You can help us add even more weight to this call by adding your name to the campaign for 8 hours maximum.

Link:   http://www.8hours.eu/8hours_en

The link below provides access to a paper copy of the petition which is being run for this campaign.  By accessing this you can print off paper copies as required and get all your friends and family to support the call.

Link for paper copy of petition –  just access and print off your copies !       8 Hours Petition

Completed forms can be sent to Animals’ Angels e.V. in Germany – the full address is provided at the bottom of the form as per the example sheet above.  Completed forms need to be sent to Germany by end of August 2011.  The forms, as well as the online petition (link above) will then be presented to the competent political boards of the EU in September.

Now is the time for major changes to EU live animal transport legislation throughout Europe – please add your support to this.

Thank You.

USA: Petition – He Calls Himself an ‘Artist’; In Fact He Is an Animal Abuser Who Shoots Stray Dogs For ‘Art’ – Now He Will Display In New York City ! – Sign the Petition To Stop the Animal Abuser.

Subject: Petition – “Artist” shoots and films a shelter dog.

http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/stop-dog-killer-from-creating-sculpture-for-ny-public-l.html

Artist Tom Otterness has been commissioned by an unnamed donor to sculpt bronze lions at the Battery Park Branch of New York Public Library for $750,000. In 1977, Otterness was involved in another art project. He bought a shelter dog, chained it to a fence, shot it to death and filmed the murder in a movie he called ‘Shot Dog Film.’

This crime has tainted any work he shows, publicly, and it would be a disgrace for the NY Public Library to let this project proceed.

Background (Preamble):

Artist Tom Otterness has been commissioned by an unnamed donor to sculpt bronze lions at the Battery Park Branch of New York Public Library for $750,000. In 1977, Otterness was involved in another art project. He bought a shelter dog, chained it to a fence, shot it to death and filmed the murder in a movie he called ‘Shot Dog Film.’

This crime has tainted any work he shows, publicly, and it would be a disgrace for the NY Public Library to let this project proceed.

Petition:

We, the undersigned, are outraged that Tom Otterness has been commissioned to create a sculpture for the New York Public Library. In 1977, Otterness adopted a dog from a shelter, chained it to a fence, shot it to death and filmed his crime in a movie, killing a living creature who trusted him for the sake of ‘art.’ To our minds, his finished product was essentially a snuff film and he committed a heinous and vicious crime.

That he should now receive a $750,000 commission for an art project in a public library is unconscionable. Though Otterness has apologized, we recognize this as little more than lip service. His anti-social behavior makes him the worst possible candidate imaginable to create sculptures for a building that supposedly functions for the public good.

If Otterness is permitted to complete this project, the only decent thing to do would be to dedicate this sculpture to the dog he murdered and his commission should go toward caring for the homeless animals of New York City. Since he received no jail sentence, that would be the only way he could do penance for his crime.

EU: Petition to Save Herbal Medicine – and Animals Lives ! – Please Sign and Crosspost.

EU: 1 Day to Save Herbal Medicine!

Campaign launched at 18:00 CET on April 28 2011

In 1 day, the EU will ban much of herbal medicine, pressing more of us to take pharmaceutical drugs that drive the profits of big Pharma.

The EU Directive erects high barriers to any herbal remedy that hasn’t been on the market for 30 years — including virtually all Chinese, Ayurvedic, and African traditional medicine. It’s a draconian move that helps drug companies and ignores thousands of years of medical knowledge.

We need a massive outcry against this. Together, our voices can press the EU Commission to fix the directive, push our national governments to refuse to implement it, and give legitimacy to a legal case before the courts.

Sign on the right, then forward this campaign to everyone, and let’s get to 1 million voices to save herbal medicine:

Petition wording:

To the European Commission and EU Governments:

As concerned EU citizens, we call on the Commission to amend the THMPD Directive, suspending the draconian measures against herbal medicines and removing all barriers to traditional remedies with a long history of use inside and outside Europe. We further call on our governments to refuse to comply with this Directive until it is amended. We have a right to choose among all remedies and medicines that can keep ourselves and our families healthy.

SAV Comment:

PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY TO ALL YOUR GROUPS AND CONTACTS NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL

WORLDWIDE CAMPAIGN AGAINST IRISH GREYHOUNDS GOING TO CHINA GAINS HUGE MOMENTUM-YOU CAN HELP BE A VOICE FOR THE VOICELESS!

URGENT LOBBYING NEEDED IMMEDIATELY FOR ‘CHINA CRISIS’ CAMPAIGN. PLEASE PROTECT OUR GREYHOUNDS. WORLDWIDE LETTERS NEEDED NOW PLEASE!

We are now asking all our national and international supporters to please support the vital appeal below from Greyhound Action Ireland by writing to all the Irish TDs (MPs) to urge them to do everything within their power to stop Irish Greyhounds being exported to China.

Please see the email addresses below.

Greyhound Crusaders/SWAP team UK have already written to all the TDs and some of them have replied already with their own grave concerns. Public pressure from caring people all over the world could help stop this barbaric idea of sending greyhounds to China.

Please do not be put off by how many email addresses there are below. You could compose a letter and then copy and paste it several times and then copy and paste 3 or 4 blocks of email addresses at a time and then send the letter in your Bcc box. We tried to send the whole lot in one go but it wouldn’t send them all so we did it as we have suggested and it worked!

You could try to send them all in one block and see if it works for you?

Please take the time out of your day to do this as it is vital everyone writes. The greyhounds only have your voice, they rely on you to speak for them.

Please remember Mahatma Gandhi’s wise words “The future depends on what we do in the present”.

The greyhounds future relies on what we do today to protect them from the barbaric meat markets in China. After 1 or 2 years we are confident that the Chinese won’t continue to import Irish Greyhounds, they will implement a breeding programme of their own which would not be under the control of the Irish Greyhound Board, therefore the Chinese would be self governing and could do anything they like with the dogs!!

Please tell the TDs there WILL be a national and international boycott of their country if this goes ahead.

We cannot thank everyone enough for all their support with this top priority campaign! Please now see the important appeal below with full details.

Please remember to keep all correspondence polite.

URGENT: BULLET POINTERS FOR EMAILS.

I have just been on to the Dept. of Agriculture who will ultimately have the job of deciding on this venture and if it will go ahead.

·  No decision is made yet.

·  The process is being checked to see if it is viable at the moment.

Cavan office of DOA is dealing with this case.

·  Can you ring and stress the cruelty aspect of sending dogs to China.

·  If these were Labs or Shitzus’ there would be more outcry.

·  Due to the large numbers of dogs that will be killed due to injuries, being slow etc. they will eventually end up as some other business be it fur or meat.

·  The IGB will not be burying these dogs when they kill them, that would cost money-meat is the most likely outcome and we all know the tenderising process etc. associated with that. They are tenderised ALIVE before killing. If most likely for meat they will not be killed by injection.

·  The IGB sent dogs to Australia in the past and they were dead on arrival.[9dogs]

·  It is not a great idea to give sedatives to greys as they already have a slow heartbeat.

·  Flight time including check in time and arrival delay china from Dublin is approximately 15 hours. Flight is over 12 hours.[that’s over 15 hours crated ]

·   What happens in China cannot be monitored by the DOA.
