Germany: International Animal Welfare Organisations ONLY – Please Support the Call for A Closed Season on Fox Murder. Currently Foxes can be Killed ALL Year.

Important message:

It should be noted that support for the organisation given below is only applicable to animal welfare organisations; it is NOT something that can be supported by individuals.

Organisations which do support this are required to give the URL to their website in order to justify their support.

Early February in Germany sees what is known as ‘Fox Week’; whilst the name would appear to support something in the way of national Fox protection, it is very much the opposite it is a week or more where hunters and blood sport enthusiasts throughout Germany attempt to kill as many foxes as they can for the sadistic pleasure.

Below you will find a few photographs showing the killings which take place every year in Germany during Fox week.

Some German campaigners have now created a website and initiative aimed at pressurising the government to establish an annual close season for foxes; because as it is at the moment, foxes can be hunted for the entire 12 months of the year.

The campaigners in Germany are looking for support from other animal welfare organisations regardless of where in the world they are.

The original German link for this campaign on ‘Pro-Lure-Animalis’ can be viewed by accessing the following;

http://www.pro-iure-animalis.de/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=712&Itemid=86

The current list of supporters can be found by accessing the following link:

http://www.schonzeit-fuer-fuechse.de/unterstuetzer.html

SAV will very soon be adding its name to the supporter list and we are taking this opportunity to publicise this campaign and ask that as many animal welfare organisations who visit our site join up and give their name to this initiative.

So to sign up your animal welfare organisation it is very simple.

Please send an e-mail of support to the following address:

info@schonzeit-fuer-fuechse.de

providing the name of the support organisation, the country in which the support organisation is based, and finally the link to your support organisations website.

The February Fox week in Germany sees the decimation of beautiful wild animals throughout the country by members of the hunting fraternity. It is hoped that with a large international supporter organisation base supporting this initiative, pressure can be put on the German government to ensure that an annual closed season for foxes is enforced.

Please cross post this message to anyone, anywhere who you think will be able to provide support via their animal welfare organisation.

Thanks – SAV.

International: Please Sign the Petition Calling for 100% Ban on Shark Finning.

100% Ban on Shark Finning & Close all loopholes that allow it.

Petition Link:

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/100-ban-on-shark-finning-close-all-loopholes-that-allow-it/

Target: UK, China, USA, Japan, & other Governments.

Sponsored by: James Howie. Animal Activist.

First of all I want you to know that when this petition is full I will send copies to every government I can to get this banned so your signature and the signatures of your family and friends are all needed. Sharks are pulled from the water with a hook in their mouths, they are kicked and stood on then someone with no heart at all just looking for some fast cash takes a blade and cuts its fins off, the shark wriggles in great pain as this is done ( imagine having your arms & legs cut off) then is thrown into the ocean and left to drown. If sharks could scream the world would hear the pain and these cruel acts would stop.

I am asking to get a 100% ban on shark finning and to close the loopholes that still allow it in some countries that say they have a ban but I need your help, so please sign and pass this along to others.

I thank you, the sharks thank you, the eco-system thanks you.

With respect, James Howie.

“The most difficult investigation I have ever conducted…”

I hope you were able to view the results of our seventh investigation into the Live Export Industry on the 7.30 Report last night (if not, click here to watch it online).

Tragically, what the ABC aired was merely a glimpse of what my co-investigator and I witnessed in the Middle East during the Festival of Sacrifice last month — Australian animals bound with wire, dragged, and shoved into car boots before being brutally killed in the streets.

Some 22 million sheep have been exported to Kuwait over the past 20 years. To visit this country again and witness even more brutal treatment of animals on this occasion was near soul destroying. As an investigator unable to intervene, all I can do is make a commitment to them that their suffering will not be in vain; that we will do everything in our power to ensure that their suffering will heighten calls for live export to end.

Change is desperately needed in the Middle East — and this will not occur whilst a country such as Australia sets an example that it is acceptable to send animals halfway around the world only to be slaughtered. The damaging message that Australia’s live export industry sets by its mere existence is that animals are nothing more than chattels to be traded and slaughtered for profit.

Australian animals need live export to end, but so do all animals in the Middle East. They need a nation to set an example that will inspire change — that will send a clear message to the region that animals and their welfare matters.

Please help us to call upon our government to end the live export trade.

By sending a quick, polite message to our Prime Minister and Agriculture minister, you will show that Australians want this cruel trade to end. I’ve included their contact details above. Your letter or e-mail need only be very brief. Your help today truly can make a huge difference.

Thank you for helping me to be a voice for these animals,

Lyn White
Animals Australia Investigator & Campaign Director

Now that the 7.30 Report has alerted the Australian public to the horrific cruelty that our live export industry is responsible for, our Government is under intense pressure to respond. Australia now has a new Agriculture minister who is willing to meet with and listen to animal welfare advocates about the inherent problems of live animal export. Please help spare millions more animals from suffering by sending a short, polite message to encourage Minister Ludwig to ban the cruel live export trade:

Parliament House, Canberra ACT 2600

Please also send a brief e-mail to our prime minister.

USA: Free Tony the Tiger From Being a Pathetic Attraction at a Truck Stop – Please Sign Petition.

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/460/714/941/?z00m=19918497

Tony the Tiger has lived for 10 years in a chain link and concrete enclosure at a truck stop in Louisiana.

But Tony isn’t living, he’s suffering. »

At the truck stop, Tony is subjected to constant harassment, noise, flood lights, and exhaust fumes in a space no bigger than a couple parking spots.

Tony’s owner is allowed to keep Tony in such inhumane conditions because the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) gave him a permit to do so. Tony serves as a truck stop attraction, and his only protection is a cage and a sign asking people not to throw things at him.

Help free Tony.

Tell the LDWF not to renew the permit that keeps him at the truck stop. »

and in the Uk;

Breaking news!

The companies behind the US-style cow factory farm have just relaunched their plans. Yesterday they came to London to hold a press conference and announced that they want to press ahead with the UK’s first mega-dairy.

We know that the firms behind this project find it hard to ignore public pressure. Earlier this year we forced them to abandon their original plan. Then we got one of the three companies involved to pull out. This week they announced that they will scale back the plans by 50% and offer the cows a small amount of outside space.

That’s progress, and it’s thanks to all of us. But they still want to build the biggest cow factory farm in the UK, with up to 4000 cows kept in grass-free conditions. Farms like this are going to be bad for climate change, bad for cows and bad for other farmers. [1]

If 20,000 of us managed to force the factory farm backers to change their plan, imagine what 50,000 of us could do! We could force the businesses to abandon the plans altogether, and make sure councils block mega-dairies like this from ever being built.

Please forward this e-mail to your friends now and ask them to add to the pressure by signing the petition:

http://www.38degrees.org.uk/stop-cow-factory-farms

The businesses pushing these factory farm plans hope they’ve got us off their back. They’ve scaled their plans back a bit, and they’ve hired in the spin doctors. Making our petition even bigger is our best response. If we get even more names on the petition, that will prove to the factory farmers, the media, and local councillors that we are not going away.

Together we’re proving that people power works. When we started, few people expected us to be able to stop the mega-dairy being built. But since then we’ve built a 20,000 strong petition, we’ve raised money for hard hitting ads in the local paper, we’ve got one of the businesses to drop out and the others to scale back their plans. Now let’s prove that we’re not going to stop until these plans are abandoned, by making our petition even bigger.

Please forward this email to your friends and ask them to help stop this US-style factory farm by signing the petition here:

Thanks for being involved,

Hannah, David, Johnny and the 38 Degrees team

Australia: Call for an END to Live Animal Export

http://www.animalsaustralia.org/take_action/festival-of-sacrifice/

This week marks one of the darkest times on the animal welfare calendar as the Festival of Sacrifice commences in the Middle East. Tragically, hundreds of thousands of exported Australian animals will be amongst the millions of animals who are sacrificed during religious celebrations at the end of the Hajj.

In the same way that Christmas has become the peak time of animal suffering in the West with vast numbers of factory farmed animals slaughtered for Christmas celebrations, the Festival of Sacrifice is the worst time of animal suffering throughout the Middle East.

Islamic teachings speak to the importance of humane treatment of animals, but the sheer numbers of animals bought and sacrificed inevitably leads to cruelty on a massive scale as the welfare of individual animals is forgotten.

It is common practice for purchased sheep to be bound, shoved into car boots or loaded onto the back of utes, before suffering a terrifying death on the morning of the Eid; their throats are cut whilst fully conscious, often by inexperienced slaughtermen in private premises or by exhausted abattoir workers who are working at ten times their normal capacity.

It was evidence obtained by Animals Australia investigators of the brutal treatment of Australian sheep in Egypt during this festival that forced the Federal government to ban the live sheep trade to Egypt. Despite similar graphic evidence being documented in other Middle Eastern countries, the Federal government continues to allow animals to be exported to the region.

Please click here to call on your local Federal member of parliament to use their power to urge Prime Minister Gillard and Agriculture Minister Joe Ludwig to ban the cruel live export trade.

SAV Comment:

Live animal exports is one of the most disgusting abuses of animals that can be imagined. I have personally been involved with live animal exports from the UK for well over 20 years now, and have seen the untold cruelty firsthand that this business creates. I, on your behalf of all UK anti-export campaigners, wish animal friends at Animals Australia every success in their campaign to stop the untold suffering of animals exported from Australia to the Middle East.

One thing can be assured; in the end they will be victorious.

Ukraine: Please Sign the Petition to Stop (Ukraine) Circus Animal Abuses.

Animals in Ukraine are popular attractions in circuses and mobile zoos. Unfortunately, the living conditions for these animals often include exposure to the elements, dirty cages and abuse.

And there are no laws to protect them.

Tell Ukraine to pass legislation to protect animals.»

The Association of Animal Protection Organizations of Ukraine has started a petition to urge the Ukraine government to protect these animals.

Below is a message from them:

Dear friends,

Please consider signing this petition to say “no” to cruelty. We hope that this petition will bring international attention to this issue in Ukraine, where animals’ rights are violated every day to entertain crowds and make money.

With this petition, we hope to shame the Ukrainian government while educating people of the world and people of Ukraine who may not be aware of this problem and its importance. We can not do this without your help!

Sincerely,
The Association of Animal Protection Societies of Ukraine.
