UK (England): Fox Saved From Death At Dig-Out.

England

Subject: Fox Saved From Death At Dig-Out

Hunt Saboteurs Association News Release 30/12/2013

On Saturday December 28th hunt saboteurs from Yorkshire (England) attended a Pony Club meet of the York & Ainsty South Foxhounds at Escrick Park.

Three foxes that were deliberately hunted were aided in their escape by the sabs through the course of the day and, as the sun was going down, three terrier men were found just as they were about to finish digging the second fox out of an active badger sett.

The sabs began to obstruct the men from continuing this illegal activity and the situation began to escalate, with about 8-10 more men with spades soon arriving at the scene. One sab was smashed in the head with the pistol the men planned to shoot the fox with and was also knocked down in a field by the men’s pickup truck. The sabs were not deterred by this, fought off the attackers and stood their ground.

Sab1

On stopping the dig-out the sabs had to prize a terrier from the fox as it had locked on to the fox’s face. Sabs then had to help the fox free from the earth as the earth around it had been caved in, leaving only its head exposed. The fox escaped with little visable injury, the terrier’s face was badly wounded from fighting the fox.

Sab2

Sab3

The group are now preparing to prosecute the hunt for their actions and ask Escrick Park to stop facilitating these criminal activities. Anyone concerned by the activities of the Y&AS hunt should contact Escrick Park ( www.escrick.com/contact-us) to ask that they refuse the hunt access from now on.

Sab4

Sab5

Lee Moon, spokesperson for the Hunt Saboteurs Association, stated: “Only two days after Boxing Day we see the real face of fox hunting. Boxing Day is the sanitized, media friendly press stunt that the hunting community use each year to pull the wool over the eyes of the British public. This is the grim reality of what occurs the rest of the time when the media spotlight is elsewhere. Escrick Park are a major supporter of the York and Ainsty South Hunt and are just as guilty as they allow these illegal acts to take place on their land. We call on them to ban the hunt from their estate before they become embroiled in any legal action taken against the hunt.”

UK: SAV Become A Founder Organisation To Form The ‘European Alliance For CCTV In Slaughterhouses’. Petition To Sign.

Slaughterhouse petition

SAV has been in contact with Euro friends over the new year holiday and we can now confirm that SAV has joined up with many other animal welfare organisations within Europe to form the European Alliance For CCTV In Slaughterhouses.

As part of the European Alliance, we at SAV join the others and demand the EU Commission submits a legislative proposal for mandatory CCTV in all areas concerned with the handling and slaughter of animals in all EU abattoirs.

Below you will find links to the petition in several languages.  This will gradually increase as the alliance grows across the EU.

At SAV we have decided to become alliance members as animal slaughter is an issue that we feel very strongly about.  There needs to be much tighter controls for standards in slaughterhouses throughout the EU.  Also, and one of our main reasons for becoming a member of the alliance; we strongly feel that this requirement for CCTV in ALL EU slaughterhouses should be a requirement for any Balkans states which are currently seeking EU Accession (membership).  Consequently, we will work to currently demand that all slaughterhouses in the existing EU have CCTV installed; and that this requirement will be one of the standards required for any new states (ie. Serbia) wishing to join the EU.

Please crosspost this section of the site to as many people as possible and ask them to add their names to the petition.

Thank you – SAV.

———————————————————————————–

 BACKGROUND

Right now
hundreds of millions of animals in Europe are at risk of avoidable suffering brutality in abattoirs across Europe.

Piece-work, low-wages, defective equipment and as little as 5 seconds to slaughter animals all contribute to avoidable suffering. There are also staff who exert additional cruelty.

On the request of the Swedish Minister of Rural affairs, Eskil Erlandsson, the EU Commission confirmed in May 2011 that within individual EU countries up to 75 per cent of the animals are slaughtered improperly or not at all stunned. Alive and fully conscious they may be scalded, have their throats cut, be cut up by machines or bleed to death, hanging from a hook.

While animals suffer unnecessarily, slaughterhouse workers are also put at risk. There are a significant number of serious and fatal accidents in slaughterhouses, plus reported thefts of firearms – all of which could be reduced by the use of CCTV.

EU consumers unwittingly and unwillingly are forced to support this system of highly subsidised, low-cost meat production which subjects animals to a horrific death and puts staff unnecessarily at risk. THIS MUST END.

We demand for the whole of the European Union:

Mandatory CCTV in all areas connected with slaughter and handling for slaughter.

Unannounced checks that this is in effect.

– Footage being made available to agreed independent monitors.

– Mandatory prosecution for all offences.

– The placing of enforcement under the control of a national administrative body able to enforce animal protection laws regardless of local circumstances.

AN INDISPENSABLE DEMAND

EUROPEAN ALLIANCE FOR CCTV IN SLAUGHTERHOUSES

After discussions with individuals and organisations across Europe with an interest in manadatory CCTV in slaughterhouses collectively a number of us have decided to establish a formal alliance that will be known as the EUROPEAN ALLIANCE FOR CCTV IN SLAUGHTERHOUSES.

This initiative for EU wide legislation for mandatory CCTV will run parallel to any domestic campaigns we may have. This website contains an EU wide public petition that will be translated into individual nation’s languages and will be promoted by alliance members in those countries.

This will follow on from the existing GERMAN petition here:

Romania: In the mind of the Mayor, feeding the animals is not good behaviour ! – Please send e mails to express your disgust at this policy.

RMNA0001

romania 1 oct 4

The following e-mail I sent this evening to all e-mail addresses which have been published in SAV: Betreff:

We have EU-elections! Romania, member of the EU! Not for long, surely!

Soon we have elections in the EU, it would be good if Romania thinks about the political costs that brings the criminal behavior against animals. Because of this criminal behavior Romania is the most hated country in Europe, and if this massacre does not stop, the EU elections will be a much bigger disaster for the country, as the murders, which makes the land itself against the animals.

Think about it and leave the killing for the uncivilized peoples! Venus, Germany.

WELL SAID VENUS – THE THOUGHTS OF MOST CIVILISED EU CITIZENS ! – SAV.

———————————————————————————————————————-

Please send a message to these Romanian politicians via the e mail addresses given below

In the mind of the Mayor, feeding the animals is not good behaviour and is therefore discouraged. . Is such an act not ” worthy ” of being regarded as contrary to common sense and inconsistent with being a civilized society , as images of skeletal dogs on public land will now become a world image exemplifying how ” civilized and compassionate ” is Pitesti! This project will be voted on next week !

Please send very short PROTESTS notes against this project by which people feeding dogs, will be punished or fined and against the Mayor’s management of dogs by capturing all dogs, neutered or not, which are protected by the population, for the sole purpose of killing them.

———————————————————-

According to the mayor of Constanta, the mass killing will start on 1.01.2014.

At the moment the dog catchers came only when they are called (they have many calls every day, as someone from the public shelter said). This mean someone call them to catch today 2 of the stray dogs we take care. We need your help to get them out from the public shelter as fast as possible and bring them to a safe place.
Please make a donation to help the poor stray dogs survive and get on a safe place far from dog catchers and the danger of the street.

See the dogs and Donate at: http://animals-voice.weebly.com/

Thank you!

Dear all,

After making interventions in Parliament to vote on euthanasia , the Mayor of Pitesti, Mr. Tudor Pendiucviolates individual freedom , ethical rules , steps over feelings of compassion which are usual in a normal society , defies any human feelings and initiates a draft decision of the local council which has one item :

It prohibits the construction of shelters and animal feeding inside housing blocks , the green spaces around the blocks of flats or in any place in the public domain .

HCL project makes provision to fine people who feed dogs, cats!

This project will vote next week !

Please send very short PROTESTS notes against this project by which people feeding dogs, will be punished or fined and against the Mayor’s management of dogs by capturing all dogs, neutered or not, which are protected by the population, for the sole purpose of killing them.

England: Most Recent Live Animal Export Protests Given Additional Boost By Chris and ‘Shipping tv’.

England

ValCameron141113_7604 _1ValCameron091013_0009_6

Anti live export campaigners at the Port of Dover in South Eastern England have been given additional support and a further boost to their campaign actions via the help of Chris and his site which is called ‘Shipping TV’.

At the most recent export of live animals from Dover (UK) to Calais port in France on the evening of 18/11/2013, Chris came down and joined up with protestors against the live export trade which even in the UK, is largely undertaken and operated by Dutch exporters and hauliers.  Only one small truck out of the five seen that night were British; the rest being Dutch.

Chris interviewed Ian Birchall, the Chairman of KAALE www.kaale.org.uk  (and the organisation which Mark, SAV founder, is also the EU Correspondent for), regarding the export trade, and Chris obtained some excellent footage of the protests, the port and the livestock trucks arriving at the port.

Despite the time of the trucks arrival being around 2300hrs in the late evening, there were around 55+ protestors still at Dover port to voice their opposition to the trade; and to let the livestock drivers know how people feel about them.

You can see the video produced by Chris at  http://youtu.be/w_5aNFW8lQQ  and for all you ship spotters, you will find Chris’ site at ‘Shipping tv’ of great interest.  Please visit www.shippingtv.co.uk

We all thank Chris for his work to further give audience to the horrors of live animal exports.

Please watch the excellent video and crosspost to everyone you know.

Anti live animal export protests have been operating at Dover harbour since around 1988.  The campaign has over the years since seen a massive reduction in the number of live animals exported from the UK for slaughter in mainland Europe.  The ex cold war river barge, the (Dutch) ‘Joline’ (registered in Latvia), which is currently used to carry the trucks (and which is shown in the video) is the very last vessel to still take live animals to Europe for slaughter.  The effectiveness of the campaign can be shown in as much that Monday nights shipment of 4.5 trucks was the first seen in almost 2 weeks.

The campaign will continue until there are NO live animals being shipped to mainland Europe for slaughter.   In his interview, Ian from KAALE outlines the Chris the negative aspects of what this live trade is doing to UK business.

The campaign has continued since 1988; we the protestors and investigators are prepared to continue for however long it further takes.

Thanks for your help and support Chris.
