As regular visitors to this site are aware, SAV have been working with German anti-hunt colleagues for months to format a campaign requesting a closed season in Germany during which animals such as foxes will not be allowed to be hunted and killed.  Ideally, we are asking for a closed season between January and  September every year.

Below you will see campaign sample letters written in both English and German.

Can we please ask that you send both letters, but independently of each other, to the German ministers involved.

It is important that both the federal and regional county ministers are made aware that this issue of German hunting is being monitored by animal people around the world. To this end, the beginning of the letter requires that you provide details of your nationality. This is outlined in red; please update to reflect your own personal, national situation.

A listing of the Federal Ministry and the County ministers to which the letter(s) – English and German)  should be sent to is provided in the following:

German Minister letter

Sample Letter – ENGLISH.

Dear Minister,

I am a citizen of    *** (include your own nationality here ***    .

Animal welfare organisations in my country have alerted me to the fact that foxes and other so-called ‘predators’ within Germany are being intensively hunted by all available means; including traps, den hunts, drive hunts, etc.

This hunting is largely without any annual closed season, meaning that they take place continually for all 12 months of every year. These predator animals are regarded and treated simply as vermin; which they are most definitely not.  Often, when they have been slaughtered by hunters, their carcasses are simply dumped into municipal animal disposal units like everyday household rubbish.

One argument used by authorities and hunting associations alike is that hunting foxes, badgers, raccoon dogs etc. serves the control and preservation of small game stocks in addition to preventing the spread of rabies. These misguided claims have long been refuted by substantiated scientific findings.

Current scientific literature proves that predators such as the fox instead actually act as a “health police” and in doing this, they fulfil a vitally important ecological function. Foxes feed predominantly (approx. 90% of their consumption) on mice and other rodents. Predators keep natural habitats free of carrion and, by selecting only weak and ill animals, ensure the survival of only the most healthy, fittest and fast-reacting small game population. A sustained reduction of predator populations through continual hunting is simply not possible. Predators naturally regulate their own population numbers on the basis of an ecologically sound level; if left to their own devices without interference by the human species.

Within hunt-free areas across Europe – and in parts of Germany as well – we are fully aware that the local biodiversity has improved considerably in comparison to areas which still retain hunts. I trust that you agree this is a favourable development which should be both encouraged and fully supported.

Therefore, I ask for your support in the form of a closed hunting season between (at least the period) January to September each year, which will provide a certain degree of protection to predator species.

Important information concerning this issue can be found here: www.schonzeit-fuer-fuechse.de.

Thank you for your attention on this very important issue.

Yours faithfully,

Sample Letter – GERMAN

Sehr geehrte(r) Herr/Frau Minister(in),

ich bin Buerger von (bitte Land angeben / *** (include your own nationality here ***    .)

Serbia: Exposed – The Killer Vet of Novi Sad. He Who Kills in Excess of 4,000 Stray Dogs and Cats Each Year, Despite (Serbian National) Legislation Banning Him From 2005.

EXPOSED – THE KILLER VET OF NOVI SAD

This is Veterinarian Nicholas Mišljenović.

Question – What is the aim of a veterinarian ? – to save animals lives and help them in their time of most need ?

WRONG; for some Serbian veterinarians such as Mišljenović.

This man is now exposed as the veterinarian who kills 3,000 to 4,000 cats and dogs every year in the Serbian city of Novi Sad (NS).

The unfortunate stray animals which are caught on the NS streets are held for only three (3) days before they are killed by this man.  This is in direct contravention to existing Serbian legislation since the end of 2005; please see the SAV link from January 2010 below.

For further detailed information relating to the decision by the Serbian Constitutional Court  that from 02/10/2005, the killing of stray dogs and cats in Serbia is forbidden; see our old post from January 2010:

https://serbiananimalsvoice.wordpress.com/2010/01/25/serbia-constitutional-court-of-serbia-says-that-the-killing-of-stray-dogs-and-cats-in-serbia-is-forbidden-from-02102005/

All that can be said about this situation is that it very typical throughout Serbia.  Serbian government and authorities do NOT make any attempt to enforce existing nation laws when it comes to animals and animal welfare.  The system is corrupt and those involved with ignoring the enforcement of national legislation are also corrupt.

None of these veterinarians are up to date with the current legislation for animals, despite it being in existence since 2005, and neither do they want to be up tod ate, because they are still making money out of undertaking illegal activities.

As can be shown in the article and the photographs, T-61 is still being used to kill the animals after three days.  Under Article 7, the Law for Animal Welfare, the killing of stray dogs and cats is forbidden.  T-61 has been banned from use in several countries, as it causes respiratory paralysis – the unfortunate animal, when injected, experiences suffocation as the lungs become paralysed and cannot function.

Article 15 of the Law for Animal Welfare states that it is ONLY LAWFUL to euthanise dogs or cats if they have an incurable illness or in the final stages of an incurable disease.

Below is the text of an excellent investigation just completed by Serbian Radio 021.  Their investigation lifts the lid on the killing of stray animals in Novi Sad.

Copies of this article will now be sent to contacts SAV have within the EU Legal Affairs department of DG SANCO, as corruption and non compliance with the enforcement of national legislation are two issues that the EU does not wish to see.  Serbia wishes to become an EU member state, but with its own inability to enforce (Serbian) national animal welfare legislation some six years after it was legally introduced; and which has been validated by the Constitutional Court of Serbia, it could be said that it is better if Serbia continues to remain outside of the EU.

Who controls the killing of animals in the dog catcher?

According to information obtained by Radio 021, there is no technical division that oversees the work of veterinarians who kill animals in the NS sinter.

The tender for the selection of firms to deal with the euthanasia of dogs and cats in Novi Sad, the job got the veterinary station “Košarčić from Futog. Kako za naš radio kaže jedan od veterinara zaposlenih u ovoj ustanovi, Nikola Mišljenović, dok životinjama ubrizgava smrtonosnu injekciju prisutni su samo dežurni poslovođa iz “Čistoće” i on. As our radio said one of the veterinarians employed in this institution, Nicholas Mišljenović, while animals injected lethal injection are present only on duty supervisor of the “Purity” and on.

“Moj rad prilikom eutanaziranja životinja kontroliše moja medicinska, veterinarska etika. Tu je još prisutan i službenik “Čistoće” koji je dežuran kada nas pozovu”, kaže ovaj veterinar. “My work during the euthanasia of animals controlled by my medical, veterinary ethics. There is still present and an official” purity “that was on duty when you call us,” says the vet.

Mišljenović states that the whole process takes a short and painless for the animal itself, and the amount of funds for euthanasia is estimated odokativno. Prema njegovim rečima, od ubrizgavanja smrtonosne injekcije do uginuća životinje prođe svega nekoliko sekundi. According to him, the injection of lethal injections to death of animal passes a few seconds.

“The dog when no one udomi for the three days that remain in the house for temporary accommodation are taken out first on the edge of the cage and approximately evaluate how a dog can be difficult to know what amount of injection should koristim.U these estimates almost never wrong, because I do this job long enough. Then he gives the dog a shot that is injected between the ribs, the lung tissue, and the animal died peacefully a few seconds after that, “says Mišljenović.

On the other hand, the president of the animal protection Novi Sad, Lana Đorđević said that they suspect that behind closed doors still caught killing dogs in an inhumane way.

“Ja sam pre nego što smo registrovali udruženje putem elektronske pošte tražila dozvolu da uđem u šinteraj, odgovor je bio da će mi javiti kada preduzeće to odobri.Naravno,to se nikad nije dogodilo. Šta drugo, nego da posumnjam da se tamo dešavaju neke stvari koje žele da sakriju od javnosti.”,kaže ova aktivistkinja za prava životinja. “I am before we register the organization via e-mail asked for permission to enter the pound, the answer was to tell me when to odobri.Naravno company, it never happened. What else but to suspect that there occur some things you want to hide from the public. “says the activist for animal rights.

Veterinarian Mišljenović still hard to euthanize all animals means T-61 and that there is evidence, as well as speculation that the killer used poles or detergent baseless and represent an attack on the veterinary profession and ethics. Mišljenović states that would never have allowed myself to see an animal suffer.

“Tu nema nikakve agonije, nikakve dreke, nikakve patnje. Ja prvi nikad ne bih mogao da podnesem da gledam životinju kako umire u mukama. Metod kojim se eutanaziraju životinje je brz, human i tih, i jedini na koji bih pristao”, tvrdi ovaj veterinar.“There’s no agony, no crap, no suffering. I am the first ever I could not stand to watch an animal die in agony. The method by which to euthanize animals is a fast, humane and peaceful, and the only way that I agreed,” said the vet.

Jedna flašica pomenutog sredstva za eutanaziju košta oko 3.000 dinara.

One bottle of the said funds for euthanasia costs about 3,000 dinars. Does this tool really used to kill stray, we can only believe a word vets who do that. (Miodrag Sovilj) (Miodrag Sovilj)

SAV Comment:

Nicholas Mišljenović, maybe now the EU should review your situation.

Your own government and authorities are incapable of enforcing national legislation which has been documented for some six years now.

A nation showing the “Enforcement of the rule of law” is a basic requirement of EU accession (membership).  Serbia shows that it is incapable of enforcing its own national legislation for animal welfare.  Why ? – corruption or a failure of the authorities and people in government ?

Maybe time for the EU Legal Affairs department to review the case and provide us with their expert opinion.

Bulgaria: Existing EU Member State WALL OF SHAME.

Yes, Bulgaria IS IN THE EU !

This says so much about EU stray animal welfare legislation – or THE LACK OF !!

With MEPs who support this, is it any wonder that things are going nowhere fast ?

Shot mercilessly, all killed, Sofia, Bulgaria.   Pups still drinking her milk.
What do you think the punishment for this atrocity would be if the predator is caught?
Jail?- NO;
Fine?- Yes.
How much? A few thousand BG Leva?- NO!
900 BG Leva?- NO!
500 BG Leva the most- this would be the price of 5 innocent lives!
That is, IF the predator is caught, but they never catch them because, cruelty to animals is LEGAL in Bulgaria!

This is a letter from the man who took the photo:

“This happened last year in my neighborhood. The dog and her babies were shot together, while she was feeding them! I approached almost every government institution. At that time I didn’t know at all that there is an organization for protection of animals in Bulgaria. Please, do not judge me- every single day I blame myself for not being more assertive. Then I decided to take home the first homeless dog, and I can tell you that it tout me how to love. Now I know that, may be if I had done everything possible to condemn this atrocity, the Mima’s case would have been prevented. Please everybody, do not do as I did. When such things happen we must unite. Only together we can change them. Back then, I was alone. I will never forgive myself.”

This is Bera from Shoumen. She was about 10 y.old. Lived outside a block of apartments. The locals loved her (did they?) One afternoon, 34 y.old, aggressive alcoholic Nikolaii Kamenov killed her- beating her with a metal pole and kicking her in front of mums, their kids and 10 men, who did NOTHING to save her. They feared for their lives! SHAME ON YOU!

BERA’S KILLER! THIS MAN HAS BLOOD ON HIS HANDS!
HIS NAME IS NIKOLAI KAMENOV OF SHOUMEN. HE KILLED MERCILESSLY A GENTLE, STRAY DOG, NAMED BERA (PLS. SEE HER PHOTO ON THE ALBUM).
HE IS ONE DERANGED, AGGRESSIVE ALCOHOLIC. HE HAS NO HEART.

Poisoning is a horrific way to die. The last moments of life are cursed with dizziness, convulsions or excruciating pain. For the lucky few, death comes within minutes — but far too often, it’s a slow and agonizing spiral that can take hours.

That was exactly Slyncho’s case. He was a quite, timid, lovable homeless dog, who NEVER EVER attacked anybody! He had a lady friend and use to accompany her and her own dog to their evening walk.
On 6/11/2010 someone poisoned him. His agony continued 3.5 hours! His friend could not get him to a vet clinic…she tried to find somebody willing to drive him to the vet, but nobody agreed. She managed to get a dose of anti-poison, but it was too late. In her heartfelt note to us she wrote:” I watched him helplessly, suffering in excruciating pain! His eyes were begging me for help…there was nothing I could do… ”

This is very disturbing. Not because it is more cruel that the rest of the documented murders and medieval style executions, but because the executors are GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS!!!

The tragedy happened yesterday in a small village in Bulgaria, called Palamartsa.
The story: THE MAYOR OF PALAMARTSA WENT TO HUNT STRAY DOGS TOGETHER WITH HIS FRIENDS.
THEY DID NOT HESITATE OF THE WITNESSES, ON THE CONTRARY, THEY “PROUDLY” WERE SHOOTING THE POOR ANIMALS AT THE FRONT LEGS FIRST, SO THEY CAN NOT RUN AWAY, THEN USED THEM AS A LIVE TARGET!!!

THIS IS BULGARIA IN 21 CENTURY. TODAY, 8 FEBRUARY BULGARIAN PARLIAMENT IS HAVING A DISCUSSION ABOUT THE NEED TO INCRIMINATE CRUELTY TO ANIMALS. SHALL WE, SHALLEN’T WE???

ISN’T IT SO OBVIOUS THAT BULGARIA MUST MAKE ITS SADISTS ACCOUNTABLE?

That man is the mayor of a tiny village in Bulgaria, called Romcha. His name is Mr ISKREN GEORGIEV. He orders mass-killings of the stray dogs and threatened to banish those kind-hearted people who feed them. He told the villagers: “I don’t care about any laws!” Full stop!
No doubt. I am pretty certain that he can’t read!

This poor cat is Bari. He was tortured in any sick way you can imagine- kicked, cut, beaten and set in flames!
Shame on you, sadists! Shame on you Bulgarian politicians for turning a blind eye on such an Evil tradition!

This tragedy happened last year in Sofia, Bulgaria. Mecho was a special breed, unfriendly, strong-willed dog, born to be a guard dog.
Nobody knows what kind of crime he committed to deserve the punishment he received: he was beaten, suffocated with a cord and finally
his head was chopped off with an axe.

Do you think that the sadist was punished for this unspeakable cruelty? No! This is Bulgaria in 21st Century!

On this photo: Mecho after he was executed.

*Update: On 28/8/10, a 3 month old puppy was found skinned alive in a rescue center as a symbol of protest against the animal rights movement in Bulgaria! More info here: http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-485897  It’s getting far worse, please sign and forward this URGENT Petition!*

On March 26, 2010, a dog named Mima was found tortured, all her 4 legs brutally mutilated apparently over an old conflict between neighbors. Currently, animal cruelty is not a crime in Bulgaria. Thousands of their citizens protested and a proposal for a new law was sent to their Parliament to vote on.

As months progress, the situation in Bulgaria is getting worse. Animals and their advocates are now the target of more abuse from those who are angry of the attention their cause has received since Mima’s story of unimaginable torture came to light. A popular “journalist” who used his TV show as a platform for hate speech, even had a guest showing techniques on how to poison strays. And now most recently, the Mayor of a town called Pernik, has ordered the poisoning of strays- absolute massacre of dogs, including those in the municipal shelters!! Some of the recent atrocities throughout Bulgaria, in addition to the daily poisoning and random shooting of strays by maniacs at large: a kitten’s head was decapitated, more dogs being hung from a bridge or a tree, another mutilation case- most recently, a very young puppy, an 80 year old woman who was caring for stray cats was assaulted by her neighbors. When animal lovers report these atrocities to the police, they’re either apathetic or they laugh it off.

On July 2010, the Parliament vote result for incriminating animal cruelty was a 9/9 split. The majority party is expected to turn it down! The final voting was supposed to take place in September but months later, we still have no news. To add more outrage, Bulgaria’s court ruled to dismiss Mima’s case on the grounds that they can’t prove a human mutilated all her 4 legs! A mockery!!  We can not let Mima’s anguish be done in vain. The government’s inaction clearly shows that it is not listening to its people and international pressure is the only hope!  Please sign and share this petition which will generate the pre-written letter below. This message will automatically be emailed directly to each of the targeted Bulgarian officials’ inbox. BOYCOTT BULGARIA, its tourism and all products made in Bulgaria until its government does the right thing and join the rest of the civilized nations that have criminalized animal cruelty long ago!

——————————————–

As we are now into early February, I think a little more time should be given on this site to the current situation regarding the ‘Fox week’ in Germany; and the subject of hunting in general. Although the current situation in Germany is described simply as a ‘Fox week’, the relentless killing of beautiful foxes by hunters who have nothing better to do continues over an actual period of about three weeks during February.

On this site we have recently covered many issues relating to the German hunting scene; and at the end of this post you will find a complete listing of the articles which we (SAV) have produced, including many, many photographs of the needless barbarity which falls under the name of ‘Fox week’.

An attempt is going to be made here to outline the basics behind the reasons for the existence of the Fox week and also to present an insight into the kind of people, namely hunters, that we in the animal welfare / protection movement are up against. Any issue choices for individuals of what to support and what not to support are down to them; that should be the way of an open liberal society. From the links which will be provided below, we hope that you will be able to get an insight into the hunters mind; their fascination with killing and their adoration of the construction of bullets and guns – killing devices.  Yes they even have websites in praise of them and the destructive capabilities upon impacting innocent animal flesh.   Below are a few pictures from these kill sites which detail how wonderful yhey consider the impacts are on an innocent animal body.

They even get a kick out of photographing the blood left on the grass !!!

From solely a personal perspective, I am unable to get my head around sites such as these, in which so-called men, dressed in fancy camouflage outfits and equipped with high-power guns, can even start to declare themselves as ‘hunters’.  There appears to be a sick fettish behind the objectives of showing the destructive capabilities of a bullet when it impacts animal flesh.  But they do it; and further, they even provide photographs showing the destructive capabilities of their equipment.

Views to get excited about ? – Yes, if you hunt !

To me, a real hunter was a person from days gone by who had to kill animals such as boar in order to eat, feed their families, use skins for clothing and generally survive. I can see the reasons behind explorers of the past needing to hunt in order to survive themselves.  Yes, animals died; but the lives were taken for a reason.

Today’s hunters encounter nothing in the way of having to do any of this; they now dress up and go out and kill wild animals quite simply because they have a blood lust fettish. I find this attitude and their pleasure in having to kill something every week very concerning, as I consider that the people who undertake these activities are a little off the mental ‘normality’ track. They have veered onto the hard shoulder.  They justify their continual bloodlust by taking their vengeance out on animals and wildlife, simply because it the easiest way and it is more ‘politically correct’ to kill animals under the name of ‘hunting’ than it is to kill other species in order to observe the faith which constitutes their bent and depraved ‘kicks’.

‘Hunters’ who undertake to kill other species besides animals are often found locked up on a death row or serving long penal sentences within national prison ‘systems’. ‘Hunters’ who kill wildlife are always at liberty to venture daily into the forests and woods, killing with high-powered, telescopic sight equipped rifles, whilst at the same time attempting to justify their bloodlust as some kind of ‘service’ they are providing to the community. This ‘service’ which is being provided, in this case of the German (Fox week) hunting community, is one which saves all humanity throughout Germany from being infested with mankillers such as the Fox tapeworm.

And so we need to take the opportunity now to look a little more at the details relating to the Fox tapeworm; and to justify why in our opinion; hunters are simply hell bent on killing any living animal species whilst attempting to justify their activities by being the saviours of all mankind.

The fox tapeworm (scientific name Echinococcus multilocularis) is a parasite present in foxes in much of the northern hemisphere, although not in foxes of the British Isles. Foxes are one of the potential definitive hosts for this parasite and where fox populations have increased, there has been a parallel increase of the prevalence of the fox tapeworm in fox populations. When household pets come into contact with fox faeces (droppings), pets and their owners are at risk of contracting echinococcosis, a disease caused by the fox tapeworm.

To be infected, humans as well as pets need to INGEST the parasite eggs, for instance by eating berries contaminated with fox faeces containing fox tapeworm eggs. In mainland Europe, the disease prevalence has increased due to the increase in fox numbers, but baiting campaigns with anti-parasitic drugs have been successful in REDUCING the prevalence of fox tapeworm in foxes.

It is domestic pets that are most likely to transmit infection to humans.

There are a number of ways to control fox tapeworm infection in foxes. Several studies have used anti-helminthic (anti-parasite) drugs to DECREASE prevalence locally, but as yet no wide scale solution has been devised, or probably more to the point, has wanted to be devised and implemented by the German authorities !.   It is easier to let the hunters have their fun for the benefit of human medicine and kill as many foxes as they are able, rather than devise a nationwide program using anti-helminthic drugs.

However, as with the spread of rabies, culling which is undertaken through the process called ‘hunting’ is unlikely to be effective and, as it disrupts the social dynamics of fox groups, causing individuals to move out of their home areas, thereby being very counter-productive by facilitating the disease spread.

As we have said in SAV posts many times before on the issue of stray dogs and cats in a town or city; especially in the Balkans regions; by rounding up and killing all the animals within a town / city, a vacuum is then created which easily allows animals from the outlying city suburbs to move directly into the empty locations of the city, looking for prospects of more and better food and most probably, more animals to reproduce with.

Diseases which may NOT have been present on the animals which did originally survive in the cities are now introduced INTO the city by potentially disease infected animals which migrate there from the suburbs.  This is ‘facilitating disease spread’ as detailed above.  In effect, hunting can cause more disease through both animal and human populations, not lessen it.  Killing large numbers of foxes produces exactly the same scenarios.

Foxes pick up the fox tapeworm from mice, one of their favorite field delicacies. Tapeworm eggs end up in fox feces, which are spread around gardens and cities by rodents and slugs. Humans, in turn, contract the tapeworm by unwittingly eating its eggs — from mouthing unwashed hands after doing garden and yard work, from touching seemingly benign sidewalk litter, or while munching on unwashed garden vegetables. Dogs and cats can also bring the worms indoors after playing outside.

Once inside a human host, the parasite is patient. It can take between 10 and 15 years from the initial infection for symptoms to appear. The first signs of echinococcosis resemble jaundice, as the worm’s larvae ravage the victim’s liver. Left untreated, the infestation can spread to other internal organs. It can only be slowed by chemotherapy. There is no permanent cure.

With foxes ‘now living so close to people’; or should that be because foxes have entered the towns more due to easy pickings left out in bags and bins by wasteful, untidy human vermin; or the other fact that humans have moved outwards and taken what was originally the land and homes of the country foxes ?; there has been an obvious rise in the transmission of fox tapeworm to humans.

Germany had 16 human (Fox) tapeworm cases in 2006, and König says the risk of contracting echinococcosis today is seven times greater than it was 20 years ago.

Rodent control and good hygiene are very important in preventing the spread of this disease to humans. As stated above, Tapeworm eggs end up in fox feces, which are spread around gardens and cities by rodents and slugs.

As another example, the Beef tapeworm is caught through the consumption of undercooked cattle meat (beef, steak, mince) which can include cow heart muscle, which bears the small cystic larval forms of the juvenile beef tapeworm.  This cyst-infested beef is sometimes called ‘measly beef’ because it has white spots all over it. Humans who like to indulge in raw or quick-seared undercooked beef are at high risk of catching tapeworms should the meat they are consuming be infected with juvenile tapeworm cysts.

But do the hunters go out and kill all the cattle to prevent Beef tapeworm from entering the human system ? – No.  So why only concentrate on the fox population ? – Because foxes are not protected and not a commercial commodity, thats why.

One therefore has to ask why such an intelligent predator (??) called the ‘German hunter’ (in their own opinion only) is really not turning his attention much more to shooting rodents and cattle rather than foxes ?  Surely the aim of eliminating any outbreak of potential disease is to target the issue at source rather than selecting the infected carrier half way up the chain !

If an outbreak of sickness and dysentery happens in a hospital ward, the authorities tackle cleanliness issues within the ward, they do not start their campaign to destroy the sickness outbreak by going to the homes of all the ward visitors from the last week whilst leaving the infected ward untouched ! – they tackle the problem at source, not from the middle up.  So why this attitude with foxes when we know that rodents are the initial source further down the chain ? – Beef tapeworm which can be harmful to humans is present in cattle; so Mr. Hunter, why not target cattle in your quest to save us all from infection ?

Send your excuses on a postcard to SAV.

Maybe the answer lies with the fact that human ‘hunters’ are not quite such sharp shooters when it comes to taking out rodents.  The middle ‘man’ in the ‘tapeworm’ chain, the foxes, are much bigger and much easier to kill than the rodents one would argue; so the foxes are killed off each year in this ‘Fox week’ hunt, when the cause of the problem, which is the carrying of the tapeworm eggs by rodents in the towns and cities, are left to their own devices – untouched by the mighty sharp shooting ‘hunter’.

Consider –

In 2005, there were 399 deaths in Germany related to drink driving.

Germany had 16 human (Fox) tapeworm cases (not deaths) in 2006.

Subject: Man sues tour operator for failing to let him shoot an elephant

http://www.gadling.com/2011/02/02/man-sues-tour-operator-for-failing-to-let-him-shoot-an-elephant/?icid=main

A Polish hunter has taken a trip to court to file charges against his German tour operator. According to the hunter, the tour agency failed to help him fulfill his dream of shooting an elephant.

Feel free to read that last part again – he is suing the company, because he was not able to kill an elephant.

The company in question, German based Jaworski Jagdreisen specializes in hunting trips, allowing tourists to shoot wild boar, red stag, sheep, pheasant and more. Their trips are organized all around the world, but they claim Latvia is currently a “hot destination”.

In his complaint, the customer identified as Waldemar I. claims there were absolutely no elephants anywhere near his hunting location in Zimbabwe. The tour operator fired back saying:

“From what I know, (the hunter) should have seen elephant excrement there”

Mr. I. is claiming damages worth $130,000 and will know whether he’s entitled to the money on February 15.   To top it all off, he’s claiming these damages after the tour operator sent him on a second trip where he actually did manage to kill a male elephant.

The “Sachsen-Anhalt” forest enterprise is sending hunters out to shoot all they can find to minimise damage to the tree stock.

Critisism continues, but the responsible in the relevant ministry denies it all.

However, a statement speaks of a conservationist having approached the ministry last year on the issue, and having been told, the fucking beasts need to be removed from the forest”.

Sarah Palin’s Safari Club Speech: ‘We Eat Organic — We Just Have To Shoot It First’

The Huffington Post  Joanna Zelman  First Posted: 02/ 2/11 05:01 PM Updated: 02/ 3/11 10:48 AM

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/02/sarah-palins-safari-club-_n_817596.html

Sarah Palin loves animals… next to her mashed potatoes. This was just one of many revelatory proclamations that the former Republican vice-presidential candidate offered this past weekend at the Safari Club International (SCI) Convention in Reno.

SCI holds an annual convention where tens of thousands of hunters gather to discuss trophy rooms, rifles, and trips to Mozambique — past speakers have included George H.W. Bush and Tom Ridge. Newsweek recently release an article, originally reported by The Daily Beast, covering this year’s event.

The report reveals that this past Saturday, Palin addressed the eager crowd in a room filled with 315 deer, 87 elk, 11 moose, 132 other antlered species, 38 lions, 27 leopards, 15 wolves, and 48 bears. All stuffed.

Palin provided zinger after zinger to a cheering audience. Speaking about organic food, she proclaimed, “We eat organic–we just have to shoot it first. And it comes wrapped in fur, not cellophane.”

Regarding her TLC reality show, Palin admitted that her documented trip to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge was politically motivated. She intended to show that the refuge is a “barren, desolate, less-than-pristine place.” Apparently, this “barren” place, home to polar bears, wolves, caribou, and sheep, is a place “desolate” enough to drill for oil. Yet, Palin also stated, “I personally understand the importance of protecting the environment.” Just not the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, apparently.

Palin continued by offering a bizarre suggestion: “If a caribou needs to be sacrificed for the sake of energy independence… I say, ‘Mr. Caribou, maybe you need to take one for the team.'” It seems highly unlikely that the Refuge’s 42 fish species, 37 land mammals, eight marine mammals, and over 200 bird species would want to take one for the team. This also seems unlikely for the caribou Palin killed on her reality show, in an act that prompted screenwriter Aaron Sorkin to state, “I can’t make a distinction between what you get paid to do and what Michael Vick went to prison for doing.”

Palin pulled out the big guns to demonstrate her support for hunting — her children. In explaining the origin of her children’s names, she described: “Piper was named after Todd’s airplane, the Piper Cub, which gets us to the hunting grounds… Bristol, Bristol Bay fishing grounds. Willow, a local sport-fishing stream. Trig, I pull the TRIG-ger. Track… I remember when we told my dad that his grandson was named Track, he said, ‘Like TRACKing an elephant?'”

While Palin spoke largely about hunting and the wilderness, she also addressed recent current events, from the Tucson tragedy and second amendment rights to a proposed media boycott saving her from blame for Egypt protests.

Overall, reports show that Palin’s speech was met with praise at the convention – the crowd jumped to their feet before her name was even spoken, and a Fox News headline reads “Palin Knocks ’em Dead…” Dave Tofte, a speech attendee, told The Reno Gazette-Journal that he was impressed with Palin because “She’s very pro-American.” Carol Kjorstad, another speech attendee was reportedly impressed with Palin’s conservation focus, but for an unusual reason. Klorstad explained that she supports protecting animals because “Everyone knows that hunting won’t survive without animals being protected.”

But for those who prefer organic food without fur, value the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge’s terrain, or prefer to name their children after non-violent acts, Palin’s speech was perhaps not so impressive.

SAV Comment;

Sarah, have you ever tried huntin and shootin with your allies in North Korea; or should that be allies in the South ? – or you could hunt with the African Army.

Suggestion – Africa is a continent, not a country !

Please advise – you are so well up on global political issues.

Wed, January 26, 2011 – 10:21

I got the info..and links..

I translated into english through google..so it is not all very clear..

BUT THE SITUATION WAS AS BAD AS WRITTEN IN THE CRY FOR HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN IF THIS SHELTER GETS HELP FROM BIRGITTE BARDOT FOUNDATION???

Nancy

We just returned from Serbia and have found refuge in a situation of Etela unimaginable.

The dogs had no food, no water, they slept standing exhausted to not having to lie down in mud and feces. They fought to death for a niche, for a rotten sausage for a female in heat.Uncollected corpses, the wounded, sick, more straw, births ….

Employees who are helped at the shelter since Christmas parties, Etela do pay more for three months ….
His car was seized, his tractor broke down.
Hell since then ….

Emergency measures were taken to try to soften the lives of dogs waiting to find a lasting solution to this situation from happening again.

An employee who had returned to work the dogs at the shelter, it will give us new each week and ensure water, food, straw, the collection of feces and the dead. Price: 250 euros per month
200 bales of straw will be delivered each month Place: 200 Euros
We evacuated 22 dogs we have placed on board in order to save them: it takes an average of 35 euros per month per dog board, price: 770 euros per month.
We paid 200 euros to EDF so that electricity is not cut off (no water for dogs without electricity)
FB had deliver 4t croquettes on for the shelter in place, it will take a month and a half maximum.

I’m sorry for the harshness of the photos that follow, they are unfortunately the reality on the ground when we arrived ….

Small dog found holed up in small parks, vagina air evacuated in emergency and operated. Her name is Peggy now, and will be put up for adoption. She is saved ….

The future of the puppies in the shelter ….

Depleted dogs sleeping standing day and night in the large parks

Mud, mud still

Never, since in France, saved …. we have two days to find him.

Looks the same everywhere

Small blind and deaf cocker spaniel died two days after our arrival, employees fed him every day since their departure did not find his food, he died of hunger.

Large dogs with demodicosis advanced, we evacuated to a pension, it will be neat.

Boxer very sick stomach, removed board, he saw the vet and live.

Uk / Romania: Special Appeal to Find a New Forever, Permanent Loving Home for ‘Fluffy’, a DISABLED Dog Currently Living A Poor Life in Romania. Can You Help ?

FLUFFY

Dear all,

Below is an extract from an email from Chrissy who is based in London and who is involved with bringing Romanian dogs over to the Uk and other countries in Europe and the rest of the world for re-homing.

Chrissy also regularly takes out food and bedding to 3 shelters in Romania.

We ask animal contacts everywhere who have a special contacts list of their own to please send out information about ‘Fluffy’, the dog shown below.

Additionally, if you are prepared to give some or all of your e mail contacts to Chrissy, then that would be very welcome.  This is effectively so that the information of any dogs which require re homing in the future can be sent out en masse to all of the new contacts.

Chrissy can be e mailed directly at  mail@romaniaanimalaid.co.uk

The following is a special appeal to help find a new home outside of Romania for ‘Fluffy’, who is a disabled dog.

Please read the following from Chrissy for further information.

————————– On Tue, 25/1/11, Chrissy wrote the following message:

Note that ‘Rommies’ is the term used for dogs which are Romanian.

” Things hectic here as usual. Trying to balance the day job and the rescue side of things.  Had 2 more Rommies arrive yesterday and more in February.  Starting a schools educational program out there in a few weeks, will take place in Romania’s 2nd largest city.

Have an urgent case of a disabled dog called Fluffy, photos attached.

He’s in a shelter in a remote part of Romania, he’s paralysed following being hit by a car which is very common out there. He’s about 4 years old and other than his obvious disability and the fact he’s missing an eye he’s in good health.

We’ve rehomed about 10 or so disabled dogs in the past to Germany, the US, even as far as Alaska!

We desperately need him out of that shelter as he’s dragging himself along in the dirt.  We can’t bring him here (to the Uk) as he has no passport, but he could go to a home elsewhere in Europe within weeks (as less strict entry laws) either into a forever home or foster home.

If you have any contacts in Europe please let me know.  They’d need to be aware of what’s involved in taking on a disabled dog (i.e. we’d get him a mobility cart and they’d have to use nappies on him) but we could advise all this and put them in touch with others that have disabled pets.

They live a fairly normal life thereafter!   “

Please crosspost this to the moon and back !

Thanks – SAV.
