SAV Comment – As Danica says below; not the start to a new year that anyone wants. But saying this, we know that as you can see, little Tik finally got to know love, warmth and a tummy full of food, all thanks to Danica who has to be admired by us all for her dedication to helping felines in Serbia.
Below we are showing some pictures of Tik when being cared for by Felix shelter.
We all strongly hoped that this year would not begin with heartbreak but sadly, our wonderful and audacious little Tik gave up the ultimate struggle for life.
He was just too small and too weak and he ultimately came to the point where his exhausted body simply couldn’t carry on. Possibly he got tired of fighting a desperate but apparently hopeless fight that seemed to last forever, and it was easier for him to just let go.
He fought the hardest he could, we did everything we could, but sometimes not even everything is good enough.
Fly free now, my sweet little angel, I know we’ll meet again one day 😦

Please share and help if you can!
Fiona arrived at the shelter about four years ago. She was one of 17 strays which had been living in a joint yard in my hometown where their caretaker was feeding them and taking care of them the best she could. That is until a cat hating neighbor hired two brutes to round up all of the cats, put them into bags, take them away and probably kill them.
All 17 cats found their safe haven here at the shelter and have been living nice, quiet and safe lives ever since, Fiona among them. She wasn’t exactly people friendly, understandably, but she’s mellowed a little over the years.
A few days ago she started to behave strangely, she was somehow too quiet and it turned out she had seriously hurt her left hind leg. Nobody has any idea what had happened, but her paw was smashed and the vet had no other choice but to amputate, which was done two days ago.
The costs of surgery and postoperative treatment will be huge, around the 250 euro mark (a little more than $300 USD) and with so many kitties to take care of, we simply can’t pay them off on our own.
Please, help this gorgeous girl who’s already been through so much!
Tripod cats can have full, quality lives and she will have that for sure, once she adjusts to walking on three legs.
Whatever you are able to give really means a lot for her!

Thank you to all those wonderful people who did give something; regardless of the size, towards helping Marko with recovery treatment.
We made approximately 2/3 of the money that was intended to help this little guy with his severe injuries.
As you can now see from the link above, the fundraiser closed some 15 hours ago.
I trust you all had a good Christmas with plenty of food and presents.
Marko hoped for a Christmas that would cover his veterinary treatment – sadly it did not arrive to the degree that was hoped for.
Enjoy your Christmas.

We’re still not absolutely sure if Morgan (photo above) can see anything out of his right eye.
He seems to be totally blind at times and doesn’t react at all, but then he surprises us by playing with cat string toys which he catches with unerring accuracy.
Sighted or not, he’s a miracle boy!

Tik (photo above) is cuddly and sweet as usual, he eats normally but he’s getting weaker by the day and it seems he doesn’t have much time left 😦 Sometimes life is just not fair 😦
Wishing you a Merry Christmas, touched with wonder and filled with love!

On Christmas Eve, some really great news !
WONDERFUL NEWS ABOUT SASHA’S DOGS:
THE EVICTION NOTICE SUSPENDED!
Woohoo! Good news for all animal lovers!!!
This is brief update about 450 dogs from SASHA’S NO KILL, CAGE-FREE SHELTER from his sponsor Harmony Fund:
The massive international campaign to save Sasha’s dogs was successful.

The mayor made a visit to the shelter in Nis and confirmed that the immediate round up of the dogs is now halted. The dogs will be moved next year, hopefully under terms which are fair and in the best interest of dogs.
Sasha’s sanctuary is a place of love like none other. The dogs can run, play, and nap in the sun throughout the day. At night, they sleep in straw-lined beds in a stable. That is why we simply can’t let them lose their HOME.
The dogs must be relocated in about 6 months and we must work together to make sure that a new haven is ready for them.
We’re asking the city to donate a new piece of land to become the PERMANENT dog’s sanctuary and we need your help to raise the money to build the dog’s shelter on that property. After all, this dog sanctuary should be a model for others around the world. The dogs don’t suffer in tiny kennels. They live, really LIVE here, and not a day goes by when they don’t feel loved.
Thank you, thank you, thank you all for the monumental show of support.

It’s with a heavy heart that we inform you that our brave little girl Tok lost her ultimate battle for life.
She was diagnosed with FIP a month ago and although we all knew FIP was a death sentence, we had been doing everything we could to help this little sweetie ever since. She received dozens of antibiotic shots and who knows how many IV fluids, she had two UV scans and ate the highest quality food, but nothing we were doing could make her feel better.
In the beginning we wanted to believe the vet was wrong, that she was misdiagnosed, that she didn’t have FIP after all… Sadly she obviously did, and the final result of a battle with the deadliest cat disease against which there’s no known cure was well advanced.
Little Tok, although small, weak and still nothing but a baby, has been putting up a hell of a fight over the last three weeks, but sadly the virus always wins.
Tok’s life was brief and not an easy one and my only regret is that our paths didn’t cross earlier. She was too sweet, too pure and too good for this merciless world, but she could not have been loved more while she was with us.
Sleep tight, my little angel, you’re free from fighting and struggling now.
Our thoughts and sympathies are with Danica now – SAV.
Not what you want any time, let alone at Christmas !
