Rocio UPDATE – 1st March 2012.

Dear All,

Last night I was happily informed that Rocío will be operated on tomorrow, finally!

The surgeon that will carry on the operation said this is a very urgent case that could not wait one more day. The shelter still does not have the full amount needed to pay for the operation but one trusts that will be reached by next week!

THANK you from Rocío and María Teresa to the wonderful people that have already donated and helped in different ways with the appeal, María Teresa will write to you individually as soon as she has the time, she asks that every donation be given with the E-mail address of the donor please.

We will keep you updated every step of the way.

Best Wishes,

Iris

DONATION APPEAL – Please give anything that you can.

URGENT HELP NEEDED FOR SPANISH ROCÍO

Dear Diana, I´m going nuts with this situation, we need to get together 700
euros and no-one has any money with this crisis!

The only way to get it together would be to ask people to donate small quantities, like 10 euros, and if we reach enough people may be

Love,
Iris

In desperate need

Rocío, a young fox terrier cross, was hit by a car near Jaén, Andalusia, and left on the road to die. She was found by a young man who brought her to the local shelter.

Unfortunately she is very hurt, her bones are broken in many places including her jaw and a good surgeon is urgently needed to save her. Naturally this costs a lot of money that this very humble shelter does not have.

They need urgent donations and if we succeed, afterwards a forever home for this angel, who is very sweet and although she must be in a lot of pain does not complain.

She is far too young to die, will you please help her?

700 euros are needed, any donation is welcome at this stage, may be many small donations can reach the goal. The X-rays can be sent to whomever asks for them.*

Brazil: All Ready Now for the Official Launch of the Film About Stray Animal Suffering – and the Promotion of Humane Sterilisation to Reduce Stray Animals Populations.

Back in August 2011, SAV had a message from Todd, a Canadian citizen living in Brazil.

Todd is a filmmaker and was producing a documentary film on stray animals in Brazil, with other sub links to suffering strays around the world.

One of the aims of this documentary is to promote the humane sterilisation of stray animals in order to eventually reduce stray animal numbers; a policy which we have always advocated, but which, unfortunately, gets very little support from governments and politicians in the Balkans states.

Todd wrote to us at SAV and asked if we had any images of the suffering of strays in the Balkans; as he wished to include a section relating to the horrendous atrocities committed to stray animals around the World in his film.

Here is the link to the original film trailer which was sent to us by Todd:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aa8Boif1gCA&feature=youtu.be

We were very happy that Todd contacted us originally for information and pictures of Balkans strays suffering; and we did our best to supply him with many photographs and video links to the situation in the Balkans.

We have just heard back from Todd, and the great news is that the film is now in the very final stages of production, and a release date has been set !

Todd tells us:

that and it’s turned out to be such a beautiful video and important video here that the city has reserved its historical theatre for a PRE-launch.

I wanted to thank you again for all your help last year”.

We are informed that when an English version of the film is produced, Todd will be sending us a copy.

In the meantime, Todd has kindly sent us a pre-launch poster of the film which is being advertised in Brazil.

You can see a copy of the poster below.

We wish Todd and his team all the very best with the film and we hope that it is a fantastic success during both the pre launch and post launch phases.

We will keep you all posted on any news that we have for the future regarding this very important film which is greatly helping to speak out for all the suffering stray animals of the World.  Congratulations Todd !

Serbia: BIG Freeze Across Europe – Latest Pictures From Cat Shelter ‘Felix’. Can You Help With A Donation ?

Danica has just sent the following pictures of the situation at Shelter ‘Felix’ in Belgrade.  If you can help with a donation, please click on the links given below.

Thank You – SAV.

Danica writes:

Hi, Mark,

I just wanted to send you some photos. It’s snowing so heavily these days that I’m starting to fear the tremendous snow would cause the roof to collapse. Some of my kitties enjoy playing in the snow, the others prefer to stay inside so everyone can do as they want and what they want. Many of them don’t mind the snow.

As you may know, Serbia has succumbed to the deep freeze gripping Europe, with plunging temperatures and icy winds – and there’s no end in sight. I was literally cut off by snow for days and worried sick about the roof and wire mesh, but most of my kitties were having the time of their life, running through the snow, jumping and playing. We’ll see what tomorrow brings…

We’ll be in touch!

Best regards

Romania / Uk (England): Hillside Sanctuary Welcomes the First 14 Romanian Stray Dogs to the Uk and A New A Much Better Future.

SAV Comment:   In case overseas visitors have wondered why this has not happened very much before, up until the start of this year (2012), all animals coming into the Uk from overseas to live have had to go through around 6 months quarantine – where the animal is kept under controlled conditions and monitored for months to check of diseases prior to be allowed out to its new home.  The Uk is an island, and so has been different to the rest of Europe.  Animals are allowed to see their ‘new’ owners, but they are not allowed home directly – it was a quarantine period first.

Now, since the start of 2012, Uk regulations have relaxed / changed very muuch to the benefit of the animal, and animals are allowed to enter the Uk directly without having to go through the long 6 month separation and also the very costly (thousands of £’s) process of keeping a dog in quarantine.  Disease checks are now made in advance of the animal arriving in the Uk through systems such as pre and post trip regular blood checks; pre trip vaccination certificates (are up to date) etc.  This is the same with any pet travelling between counties in Europe – as long as the animal is up to date with vaccinations and is certified for same, via the EU ‘Pet Passport’ scheme, animals can now travel around Europe very much the same as humans – they have a pet passport which allows them to do this.  There is now no need to keep animals in (Uk) quarantine prior to them being allowed to their new home; providing they are up to date with their vaccinations and have had pre-checks done in advance (as per the passport system) to ensure they are disease free, then they can now enter the Uk directly and go to their home or a facility such as Hillside, ready for further adoption.

These guys from Romania are the first batch to really show the advantage of this new Uk / EU system, and it will be the start of many animals coming into the Uk to find new homes.

Waiting to be unloaded tonight, after their long journey to Hillside from Romania, are Sanni, Brick, Lia and Lord.  Fourteen dogs (luckily four more than we were originally expecting) arrived with us safely and we were pleased that all had travelled well. The staff settled ten of the refugees in for the night at Hillside while foster carers took four of the dogs straight into their family homes. This included Petronel, who has been adopted by a kind couple who had eagerly waited for hours at Hillside for the pet transporter to arrive.

We would like to sincerely thank all our supporters who have made this journey to safety for these dogs possible. Also, thanks to Katy and Kelly who are working very hard to save these dogs and are already organising another trip to Hillside for more dogs in the near future.

Tonight – Yuri and Dalma – at last safe on British soil…

Petronel off to start a new life with his kind adopter…

Mission Statement

The purpose of Novi Sad Cats is to raise awareness of (and eventually funds for) an independent animal shelter for homeless cats in the Vojvodina region of Serbia. We will also bring you true stories and lots of pictures of these charming creatures. Email us at felix.shelter@gmail.com

Felix kitties need your help!

The weather is changeable this winter and it affects all of my kitties, especially the oldest and the youngest. Almost all new kitties that arrived this year and are not fully adapted to the life in the shelter are already under treatment, they have a fever and eye discharge and most of them are sneezing.

It’s rather warm now, at least for this time of the year, but we had bad snow a couple of weeks ago, as you may see on the photos. I fear for my chronically ill kitties, they’re always in crisis during the winter. Although a contagious respiratory infection is not a serious health threat for most cats, for the elderly or those who have a chronic health problem it can result in serious complications.

My kitties are in continuous need of your support. Vet bills are mounting, and lots of medicines have to be bought for treatment at home.

Right now, 6 of my cats are being given injections and the vet is coming every day. It’s extremely hard to defray costs of maintaining or restoring health of dozens of senior cats, 15 chronic patients and 5 delicate kittens under the age of six months.

Again, I’m forced to ask for your help as we depend on your generosity.

My kitties and I thank you in advance from the bottom of our hearts!
