England: Thank You For Positive Comment and Endless Support.

England

Hi all;

And thank you to everyone who has left comments on the site.  Unfortunately, we cannot respond personally to every comment, especially those relating to the structure of the site.  I did put something out recently which was a general post which may help many starters with a few ideas – this is the link:

https://serbiananimalsvoice.com/2013/10/19/from-the-founder/

We are spinning plates at the moment as we are massively involved with live animal transport work here in the EU – and this is keeping us very busy without putting anything into SAV.  But we are trying to keep this site going also although not as much as we normally would.

You can see the latest post on memories of the live animal export trade from here in the UK at: https://serbiananimalsvoice.com/2014/04/23/england-memories-of-the-live-animal-export-trade-then-and-now/

There are lots of good video clips showing lots of dedicated animal people fighting the trade here at the English ports.  It is this work which we are now involved with as always and are currently up to our necks in – but we love it !

Our thoughts are always with our Australian friends who are fighting an endless battle out there against the trade in animal abuse which the government calls ‘live exports’.  You will win, no doubt about it; just as we are witnessing the final nails going into the UK export coffin here at the moment.  There is no need for animal suffering in such volume as with the live export trade.

So thank you for all your comments and suggestions; each are read and noted – and in the norm, many are very supportive of the site and what we are doing.

Keep on keeping on !!

England: Memories of The Live Animal Export Trade – Then and Now.

England

Everybody

Onderwater Dover 2nd May 2013

Above – Dutch Haulier Carrying Live UK Sheep for Export – 2nd May 2013.

As you probably know; (see ‘About Us’) the export, transport and trade in live animals has always been a massive ‘gripe’ of mine for the last 25 years or so.  It is still as strong as ever and we are currently working with EU national authorities in some member states to hopefully bring about some prosecutions in the near future.

For this reason, only a certain amount of time can be given to SAV at the moment.  We will attempt to keep on top of the ‘SAV’ situation, but for us, the live export work is also very important.

Below you will find a copy of something which was written by great friend and fellow anti-export campaigner Jane; who is here in Kent, England, the same location as us.  I have known Jane for almost all the past 25 years of anti export campaigning and I can say that this girl has my un-devoted respect and admiration for everything she has undertaken to oppose the trade in live animal exports for so many years.  Thank you Jane.  The poster produced by Jane below sums up everything that needs to be said – for me personally it was witnessing small baby animals suffering in the back of livestock transporters heading for Europe many, many years ago.

Here are Jane’s words below.  Many good people and fellow campaigners have now passed on, but they are still remembered by us all in our own ways for the devotion they gave to the fight against the export trade.

Love J xx

Today, the 20th April marks the 19th anniversary of the resumption of live exports in Dover. Strong and passionate feelings against this vile trade were shown with many people giving up their freedom, maybe only for a day for most but several were remanded and then others spent months banned from Dover. It didn’t work as that just made three demo sites. A solid core of good people at all 3 places still worked together to fight the barbarity that passed by us daily and then we all felt the brunt of the excessive policing.. Excessive is putting it mildly !

Where is everyone now ? So many have passed away, They are not forgotten and are all missed and remembered . , It doesn’t matter the capacity in which they stepped forward or campaigned in, everyone was important and each did what they felt they could to add to the campaign. Some campaigned in a very forward way but for some, standing on the front line and even standing next to people they didn’t know took all their strength. – and that was before the convoy of masses of police and the many, many livestock transporters of calves and sheep came by. All brave people and always remembered…
Where is everyone now ? Unless you are involved with actively caring for rescued animals (you will be too busy) please think back and try to attend at some point. First Saturday in the month at Dover and next shipment most likely Ramsgate. The Dover date is a permanent date so nearly everyone should be able to make it once a year .

Some of us had previous experience with the ferry company campaigns but we didn’t expect the support in those days. 1995 showed that support could be gained and people were willing to come along and stand up (or sit down) for change. It was so heartwarming and very emotional to meet so many like-minded people

Some of us are still there .  That day changed something in our lives and we knew that was it – no turning back ……

The price of sheep in English markets took a slight drop in price this week (April 2014). Be warned now, if this lowers more then the ‘Joline’ could be on the move quicker than the seasonal expectation.

Thank you to a supporter in France for the picture. U know who u are ! xx
A big big thank you to everyone who physically attends. It is so important.

USA: Mercy For Animals Canada reveals heartbreaking cruelty to baby calves at one of the largest veal producers in North America.

USA1

SAV Comment:

Why there should NEVER be such a thing as Ag Gag – this would be what the producers wish to hide under such ‘protection’ yukspeak.

See the video by clicking on this link immediately below.

A breaking undercover investigation

by Mercy For Animals Canada reveals heartbreaking cruelty to baby calves at one of the largest veal producers in North America.

While working undercover, the investigator documented:

  • Workers violently kicking, punching, and throwing baby animals
  • Calves crammed into feces-covered wooden boxes barely larger than their own bodies, often chained by the neck, unable to even turn around or lie down comfortably for their entire lives
  • Animals painfully stuck in the wooden slats of their crates
  • Sick and injured animals left to suffer and slowly die in their own filth without proper veterinary care

Calves are highly intelligent and social animals who deserve better than a life of intensive confinement on a factory farm. In nature, these calves would be nursing from their mothers, frolicking in the sun, and playing with other calves. On veal factory farms like this, baby calves are deprived of everything that makes life even remotely worth living.

Veal crates are recognized as inherently so cruel they have been banned in eight U.S. states, Australia, New Zealand, and the entire European Union. Ohio banned the use of veal crates following another investigation by Mercy For Animals in 2010 at Buckeye Veal Farm. That MFA investigation also led Costco Wholesale, the third-largest grocery chain in America, to adopt a policy against purchasing veal from calves confined in crates.

Mercy For Animals is now calling on the Retail Council of Canada, which represents all of the major grocery chains in the country, to implement a new policy that prohibits the cruel confinement of calves in restrictive veal crates for all of its member grocery supply chains — a policy already supported by Costco, Metro, and Sobeys.

Please click here to sign the petition. Then, share the undercover investigation with friends, family, and colleagues and encourage them to take action as well.

And after you have asked the Retail Council to take a stand against this blatant animal abuse, please consider further helping calves and other farmed animals by exploring a diet free of eggs, dairy, and meat.

Sincerely,

Nathan Runkle

Executive Director

Australia: Gutless PM Tony Abbott Fails To Act In The Defence Of Australian Animals. Just Like Gillard Before Him.

SAV Comment:

What we in the UK (and the rest of the civilized world) have known for a very long time:

Tony Abbott and Julia Gillard – Two Animal Abusing Australian Prime Ministers.

Neither who have had the guts to do anything about such a disgusting business of live animal exports.  Gutless fools who just let animals suffer for their own political satisfaction.

Oh how we feel for the poor citizens of Australia – to have an animal abuser like Abbott at the helm now.

———————————————————————————————————–

From Animals Australia

http://www.banliveexport.com/gaza

As the sun goes down in the Gaza Strip tonight, Australian animals stand waiting… and we do not know their fate. But based on evidence from our recent investigations, I fear the worst.

What you do in the next 3 minutes will help us send the strongest possible message that Australians will not tolerate this industry any longer… and on behalf of the thousands of animals abandoned to live export cruelty yet again — I am pleading with you to be their voice today.

ABC’s 7.30 program last night aired a damning exposé revealing an even darker side of this industry: allegations of corruption and criminal activity have now emerged.

But what our latest investigation has uncovered will shock you even more.

Actually, ‘latest’ sounds like it was one investigation. In reality, on almost a weekly basis over past months we have lodged 6 additional complaints with the Department of Agriculture showing that the nightly abuse of Australian cattle in Gaza… continues.

With the help of our brave young local investigator in Gaza, we have presented case after case, evidence upon evidence, to the government pleading for urgent action. Yet night after night, workers terrified of ‘wild’ Australian cattle have been resorting to violence within the abattoirs of Gaza. We’ve seen animals with leg tendons slashed, being stabbed in their eye, and being abused in ways which are too traumatic to describe.

I don’t tell you this to shock you, Maria. In fact, I strongly urge you not to watch footage from our investigation because it is simply too distressing. But I’m telling you this because relying on the regulatory process to end the cruelty has failed.

That brings us to you, and why you’re reading this:
THIS NEEDS TO BE MADE PUBLIC.

Will you spare 3 minutes today to help achieve justice for animals?

Knowing how confronting the evidence is, we have gone to extra lengths to ensure that you can take action on our website today without needing to see any graphic images if you choose not to.

To the live export industry, these animals are considered ‘products’. To us, they are ‘living beings’ deserving of compassion and respect. I know that when Australians discover what animals have been suffering in Gaza there will be a groundswell of compassion and action on their behalf — one that our government cannot ignore.

After taking action please share this urgent alert with your friends, family — anyone who like us wants a kinder, more compassionate world where cruelty is not excused as the cost of doing business.

For the animals, thank you,

Lyn White
Campaign Director

http://www.banliveexport.com/features/largest-live-exporter-questionable-track-record.php

P.S. With the live export ‘assurance’ system failing to protect animals from the worst abuses, your help is needed to stop this from continuing and achieve justice for animals. It only takes 3 minutes to make a difference. Please click here to take urgent action today.

The track record of the world’s largest live exporter, Livestock Shipping Services, raises big questions about why they’ve been allowed to keep their export licence.

It’s Friday, 4th April 2014. The ship called Bader III sets out from Fremantle Port on the long sea voyage to Jordan and Israel. On board are 10,000 cattle and thousands of sheep. The exporter is Livestock Shipping Services (LSS).

A day earlier, LSS General Manager, Garry Robinson, complained to the media about this ship being delayed as a result of ‘handful of animals’ in Gaza. Robinson did not express concern that this ‘handful’ of cattle, who had been exported by LSS and ‘leaked’ from their supply chain, were once again suffering terrifying and prolonged deaths both in LSS’s ‘approved’ and in non-approved abattoirs in Gaza.

No accountability was expressed about the fact that this situation was LSS’s legal responsibility or that it was both predictable and preventable. After all, the company was aware that Australian cattle in Gaza had been subjected to sickening abuse last October — including at their approved abattoir, which had months earlier passed an LSS-funded audit despite not meeting required standards.

As a result, rather than a ‘handful’ of animals, every one of the 4,631 Australian bulls sent into Gaza since November would be brutally slaughtered.

With a dire situation for cattle in Gaza ongoing, and under investigation for five serious breaches of regulations, it seemed inconceivable that LSS would be granted a further export permit.

But five weeks after the Department of Agriculture was first provided with evidence that the horrific slaughter of Australian bulls in Gaza had continued unabated they granted the company implicated a further export permit.

Only a couple of days after the Bader III sailed for Israel, in a filthy slaughterhouse in Gaza, another Australian bull was brutally slaughtered in breach of Australian regulations, including having his eye stabbed to blind him. Around him lay the bodies of other Australian bulls who would have suffered similarly shocking deaths.

The dreadful suffering of these animals was predictable and preventable. The Exporter Supply Chain Assurance System (ESCAS) was put in place to prevent the worst abuses to exported animals. But with no Australian government oversight in importing countries, its ability to do so rests with exporters facing consequences for breaches, including suspension or loss of export licence.

Tonight, once again, Australian bulls will be brutally slaughtered in Gaza. Tonight the export company implicated in these breaches of regulations continues to be allowed to export, and has tens of thousands of animals aboard the Bader III once again, entrusted to its ‘care’.

http://banliveexport.com/gaza#takeactionplace

TAKE ACTION NOW

That shocking abuse of Australian cattle continues in Gaza five months after first being reported, is damning.

The good news, is that after receiving evidence from Animals Australia in November, the Australian Government ceased granting export permits to Gaza. The bad news, is that this was no help to the thousands of cattle who were en-route at the time. Since then, at least 4,631 exported cattle have been sent to the slaughterhouses of Gaza.

This ongoing cruelty could have been avoided had exporters been complying with regulations. Tragically, the Australian Government’s live export ‘assurance’ system is providing anything but ‘assurance’. The truth is that nobody — not live exporters, nor the Australian government — can guarantee that animals in the live export trade won’t be brutally killed.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Live export is valued at only 0.3 percent of national exports. And most sheep and cattle farmers aren’t involved with the industry. Not only that — a phase out of this cruel trade will create more jobs for Australians and benefit the economy.

Take action today, and help spare an animal from suffering this brutal fate. Ask your MP to support a phase out of live exports — for jobs, for the economy, and most importantly, for the animals.

Animals Asia start work to turn a bear farm in China into a bear sanctuary – freeing 130 caged bears in the process !!!

Support and donations are required to help support this fabulous transformation.

Peace by Piece is Animals Asia’s new landmark campaign to help rescue and rehabilitate over 130 moon bears in Nanning, China. These bears have been kept in horrendous conditions – many trapped in tiny cages from birth – and farmed for their bile.
Some of the 41 female bears could be pregnant with up to four cubs.

The farmer had bred the bears and extracted their bile for years, but had a change of heart when his daughter convinced him of the horrible cruelty of the trade. Animals Asia is taking over custody and care of the bears, leasing the land and facilities.

This will be the largest rescue of its kind in the world.

We now need your help to turn this farm into a home – peace by piece!

Not only will we turn this bile farm into a comfortable home for the bears, we will create a sanctuary AND education centre. By uniquely working with the Chinese Government, we will also ensure that this new sanctuary will provide meaningful jobs to the nine existing farm workers.

We will retrain them to become skilled bear carers, at this new groundbreaking sanctuary. So, this isn’t just a bear rescue, it’s a landmark initiative to help change the hearts and minds of other farmers in the region.

Because of the size and scale of this rescue, we need your support more than ever before. Your donation will help fund the renovation of the farm as well as the veterinary care these bears urgently need and the equipment and structures needed for their rehabilitation. The map above outlines these plans, piece by piece, showing why we urgently need your donation now.

Please help us provide the peace these bears deserve – and claim your piece of history in the making.

Dear Mark,

Animals Asia has just signed an agreement to undertake the world’s biggest bear rescue. Please watch our short clip below to see how we are transforming a bear farm in Nanning, China into a sanctuary for the 130 bears and their unborn cubs.

To do this, we need your support more than ever.

We were alerted to the plight of two established family herds of wild ponies who were facing eviction from their home on the mountain where they have grazed for four generations.
In this emergency situation, the farm, that allowed them grazing rights on the mountain, was being sold and these feral ponies, who were unlikely to generate any interest from the horse riding fraternity, had nowhere else to go except the slaughterhouse.
With time fast running out for the 21 ponies, including heavily pregnant mares, foals and two stallions, we have made room for them at Hillside (pictured on arrival).
We could only show compassion to these rejected ponies who needed our help and if you would like to help us care for them, you may make a contribution by clicking this link    http://www.hillside.org.uk/acatalog/d…
