URGE EU TO STOP SUBSIDISING BULLFIGHTS

The EU is supporting the torturing to death of bulls in the bullring and countless other animals in village ‘blood fiestas’. We find it absolutely disgusting that a proportion of my tax goes to support animal abuse.

BAN HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGES IN NEW YORK CITY

Every year, the list of accidents involving horse-drawn carriages grows longer. Horses are often forced to labor in all weather extremes while walking on hard pavement, dodging cars, and inhaling exhaust fumes. After decades of controversy, it has become clear that additional rules and monitoring make no difference in the lives of these at-risk and dispirited animals. The only humane solution is a permanent ban on horse-drawn carriages.

END WHALE BLOODBATH IN DANISH FAEROE ISLAND

Every year between 2,000 and 3,500 pilot whales are corralled by men in boats and forced into bays in the Faeroe Islands, a North Sea Danish Protectorate mid-way between the Shetland Islands and Iceland.

Citizens worldwide are sickened by the annual vision of whales marooned in blood-red waters. Islanders stone, gouge, spear, hack and bludgeon some 2,000 to 3,500 long- and short-finned pilot whales.

HELP BAN FUR FARMING IN NORWAY

The Norwegian fur industry is continuously trying to present fur farming as unproblematic. During the summer of 2008 activists from Network for Animal Freedom traveled the country to see how the farm animals are actually treated. They inspected more than 100 randomly chosen fur farms in every county where such farms exist, covering over 20 percent of the fur farms in Norway.

HELP ANIMALS IN EU LABS

Over 12 million animals are used in experiments in Europe every year, and the numbers are continuing to rise. In recent years, it has become increasingly apparent that the Directive needs to be revised. The current Directive is open to interpretation and does not mirror important progress that has been made in science over the last two decades. New techniques have become available, such as use of transgenic animals, xeno-transplantation and cloning. These require specific attention, which the current Directive does not provide for nor is the use of animals with a higher degree of neurophysiologic sensitivity, such as in the case of non-human primates, specifically regulated.

OIPA NAPLES

In Italy OIPA is operated throught its Italian branches, from the North to the South.

OIPA Naples was founded on the belief that stray animals are to be treated with the same love and respect as other living beings.

Its illegal to abandon a pet in Italy. Our branch is very involved in animal legislation relating public safety and animal welfare. By reporting cases of suspected or known animal cruelty they offer to the animals, protection and a second chance. To reduce all forms of cruelty and encourage a more compassionate society we ask each of you to be alert to all forms of neglect and violence. Each of us has the power to make a meaningful difference in the lives of neglected and abused animals.

OIPA Naples is solely run by volunteers, and they are always happy to welcome new people who want to help them continue to help homeless animals.
