Bonaire Donkeys Petition – UPDATE 20/07/12.

Regarding our recent post about the Bonaire donkeys

https://serbiananimalsvoice.wordpress.com/2012/07/14/urgent-petition-donkey-sanctuary-bonaire-only-until-monday-16th-july-to-sign-please-sign-now-and-crosspost/

– we now have the following update from The Donkey Sanctuary, UK:

Dear Mark

8,015 signatures cause a stir in Bonaire!

Thank you for taking part in our emergency petition.

On behalf of all the donkeys in Bonaire, we would like to thank you for signing our petition to stop the immediate shipment of 200 feral donkeys to Haiti.

We have now received news that the meeting was cancelled by the Bonaire Government and we are almost certain that the petition and resulting media coverage was the cause of this. We are also led to believe The Party for Animals have become involved in the matter and have raised questions in Dutch parliament for the government to answer.

Stephen Blakeway, our Director of Welfare, says: “Well, the news has been an interesting development!

Let us hope it is a positive one – any delays to the shipment plans means we have more time to find the best way forward for the feral donkeys of Bonaire. We guess the international interest has taken them by surprise and we’re very glad the Party for Animals has swung into action. Our thoughts are with the staff of Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire and their excellent work. We will be keeping a very close eye on proceedings over the next few days and possibly weeks.”

Spain: The Matador Who Realised What He Was Doing Was Wrong.

Matador who realised what he was doing.

This incredible photo marks the end of Matador Torero Alvaro Munera’s career.

He collapsed in remorse mid-fight when he realized he was having to prompt this otherwise gentle beast to fight.

He went on to become an avid opponent of bullfights. (The look on this bull’s face says it all for me. Even grievously wounded by picadors, he did not attack this man.)

Torrero Munera is quoted as saying of this moment:

“And suddenly, I looked at the bull. He had this innocence that all animals have in their eyes, and he looked at me with this pleading. It was like a cry for justice, deep down inside of me. I describe it as being like a prayer – because if one confesses, it is hoped, that one is forgiven.

I felt like the worst shit on earth.” “Cows are amongst the gentlest of breathing creatures; none show more passionate tenderness to their young when deprived of them; and, in short, I am not ashamed to profess a deep love for these quiet creatures.

Alero Munera says: “Chiquilín, another repentant bullfighter, claims to have seen bulls weeping. He says that he cannot kill even a fly nowadays. I take my hat off to that man. He’s a real hero who learned his lesson through reason and thinking.” – Thomas de Quincey

UK (Northern Ireland): Was Lennox Already Dead Months Before He Was Officially ‘Put To Sleep’ in July ? – Facts To Absorb; Questions To Be Answered by BCC.

This has been our view on the situation for many weeks – we felt that there was some kind of cover up going on – there were just too many things (facts) that happened in ‘advance’ of the alleged time when Lennox was put to sleep.

The information below has been provided through the normal network, but we tend to agree with what is said 100%.  There are now even more questions for BCC and the judiciary to answer. – SAV.

Lennox was already dead?

ok, I have been sitting on some information given to me by an unidentified informant.

I don’t know if it is true but it would explain A LOT about this case. If it is true, you all will be furious as I, but if not, then that means we can’t trust anything that comes out of Northern Ireland/UK. Here it goes:

I was contacted shortly after I ended the show early in the morning on the 11th. The informant gave me information that I don’t know if it is the truth but I am releasing to you and hopefully we can get to the bottom of the truth. Please know that this is not from ME, I am just the messenger.

This person stated that the shelter who kept Lennox hidden from the world went into his kennel one morning to give him his medication for kennel stress, food, and water. The informant stated that Lennox was found dead and the shelter panicked. They supposedly contacted BCC to see what they should do and they were told to have the body cremated immediately and to destroy the collar, clean the kennel and remove all evidence that Lennox was even there.

This supposedly took place several months prior to the last court date. The informant stated that BCC told the judge and that is why the judge upheld the other rulings. According to the informant, BCC never thought that this case would cause such an uproar and by the time it did, they feared what would happen if they openly admitted that Lennox was dead already.

IF this is in fact the truth, it would explain a lot!

Why no one was able to see him, why the family could not have the body back and why the collar is missing.

The saddest fact of all is that we have no proof that this is a true statement because all evidence was destroyed. The only way we will know the truth is if the informant identifies him or herself and if the shelter has a strike of conscious and speaks out. It also explains why everyone who was supposed to be able to grant amnesty were unable to thus passing the callers and public around to other people causing confusion and heightened anger.

So there you have it. This is all I know and I have no idea who the person was.

Sorry I can’t give you any more information. Know that I back you all up in this fight to know the truth. We owe it to the Barnes family and BCC owes it to the world to tell us what actually happened to Lennox.

Pawz up,

Leigh, creator and host of The Pawz Cauze Show.

URGENT PETITION – Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire – Only Until Monday 16th July To Sign – Please Sign Now And Crosspost.

PLEASE SIGN IMMEDIATELY !! – SAV.

Petition Link:  http://www.thedonkeysanctuary.org.uk/petition/bonaire

We have until Monday 16th July to collect names for this emergency petition, which staff from Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire will present at a meeting to the Bonaire Government shortly after.

Petition to help the donkeys of Bonaire

We wish to support Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire in its appeal to the Bonaire Government to stop their shipment plans of 200 feral donkeys to Haiti and instead work together to help find the best solution for the donkeys’ future well being.

Donkeys have been living feral on Bonaire for hundreds of years and many fall victim to terrible acts of abuse, road traffic accidents, illness, dehydration and sometimes starvation.

A Dutch couple set up Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire in 1993 to help save sick, wounded and orphaned foals and they’ve managed to save and care for 400 donkeys so far, but a further 200 are still roaming free.

Now these remaining feral donkeys are facing further threat. Recent reports indicate that the Bonaire Government wishes to round them up and transport them to Haiti where they will face an uncertain future as working animals. The sanctuary believes that the stress of travel combined with the lack of resources or expertise in Haiti to domesticate the wild donkeys, is likely to lead to intense suffering and distress.

The Donkey Sanctuary, which has supported the Bonaire sanctuary over the last 15 years is keen to support its efforts to work with the government to help find the best solution for the donkeys.

Belfast: 11/07/12 – ‘Lennox’ Was Murdered By Belfast City Council Today. Major Actions Now Planned Against Belfast and Northern Irish Products.

Lennox was Murdered by Belfast City Council

Heartbreak as death row dog Lennox destroyed by Belfast council

Wednesday, 11 July 2012

Lennox, the dog at the centre of an international campaign to stop a Northern Ireland council from putting him to sleep, has been destroyed.

The dog’s heartbroken owner, Caroline Barnes, said her teenage daughter Brooke had been denied the chance to say a final farewell.

“We had told Brooke that even if we don’t win (the case), she can still see Lennox, have her last pictures with him and say goodbye,” said Ms Barnes.

“To then have to tell her that no, that is not happening, it has been extremely unfair.”

The family has been told the dog’s body will not be returned but they will receive his ashes.

Last night Lennox supporters staged a protest in Spain, following similar rallies in New York and Serbia.

Ms Barnes said: “We can draw a bit of comfort from all of the brilliant friends that we have made.”

The family pet was put down this morning after the expiry of a midnight deadline for legal appeals.

Campaigners claim to have 200,000 signatures supporting a reprieve and emotions were running high.

A Belfast City Council spokesman said: “Lennox, an illegal pit-bull terrier type, has been humanely put to sleep. This was in accordance with the Order of the County Court which was affirmed by the Northern Ireland Court of Appeal.

“Whilst there is an exemption scheme to which dogs of this type (pit-bull terrier type) may be admitted as an alternative to destruction, there were no such measures that could be applied in this case that would address the concerns relating to public safety. The Council’s expert described the dog as one of the most unpredictable and dangerous dogs he had come across.

“Over the past two years, Council officials have been subjected to a sustained campaign of abuse including threats of violence and death threats. The Council has been in ongoing contact with the PSNI in relation to that.

“The Council regrets that the court action was necessary but would emphasise that the safety of the public remains its key priority.”

Lennox was impounded by Belfast City Council’s dog wardens in 2010.

In June, Northern Ireland’s most senior judges rejected Caroline Barnes’ legal bid to overturn an order for the destruction of her pet.

Ms Barnes, who is disabled, and her family insisted that Lennox was not dangerous, and while it was not clear exactly what breed he was, pit bulls and dogs like them are illegal in Northern Ireland.

Two lower courts had already ruled that the dog should be put down.

The dog was seized by Belfast City Council dog wardens in May 2010. He was assessed to be a danger to the public and subsequently ordered to be put down.

A former Metropolitan Police dog handler claimed the dog represented a danger due to his unpredictability.

Ms Barnes, 35, had accepted her pet was a pit-bull type, but claimed there had been a failure to properly consider a possible exemption scheme.

Her battle for Lennox became an international campaign to save his life. It went “viral” on social media websites and attracted tens of thousands of well-wishers.

Well-known people including boxer Lennox Lewis and Assembly First Minister Peter Robinson were among those who used Twitter to call for the dog to be spared.

Belfast/NI boycott for Lennox

http://boycottbelfast.com/

We have to mount a huge protest and boycott of Ireland and all products irish.

They have to know what they did was wrong.

The boycott is on! did you know that a lot of blue cheese comes from NI???? Read the labels on all imported cheeses;  don’t forget Irish whiskey and products made of wool (sweaters esp); and does the meat on your plate come from NI? Go vegan! No meat, dairy, wool!

“Agriculture Minister Michelle O’Neill has welcomed the news that a draft law has been published in Washington aimed at lifting a ban in place since 1997 due to BSE (mad cow disease…maybe that’s what all the members of the BCC are suffering from).

~ Sunday, 11 March 2012

Speaking today from Philadelphia Minister O’Neill said: “I am very encouraged by the news that steps are being taken to lift the beef ban which has been in place for far too long.

“Our beef industry has proven itself to be robust and has had to invest heavily to rebuild markets and secure new business over the past decade whilst the ban has been in place. The red meat industry in the north is now worth over £800million to the local economy, with the red meat processing sector employing 3,300 people.

“This move has the potential to reopen the huge US market for our local beef farmers which can only help the sector grow further.”

And why not plan to march in next year’s St Patrick Day’s Parade with a sign that says :

We Remember Lennox!

Murdered by Belfast City Council!

We will NEVER Forget!

—————————————-

Despite world wide outcry to rehome him, save his life, the BCC gave everyone the finger ~ how tragic when people called the BCC, they made animal noises on the phone and thought this was all funny. Lennox was never a dangerous dog but these small-minded, power hungry, prejudiced monsters are the dangerous ones.

This is the ‘dangerous’ dog they killed :
