Australia: How Much Lower Will Australian Politicians Sink ?- Now Possibly Cattle Exported To Egypt To Have Their EARS CUT OFF BEFORE Slaughter !! – Protest On The Link Below.

Here is some very disturbing information which we are now used to with Australian politicians:

A committee in Egypt is recommending that all Australian cattle exported to Egypt have their ears painfully cut off prior to slaughter. This comes after the discovery of growth-promoting hormones in the ears of some animals.

If this is allowed, not only will these animals suffer through the hellish live-export journey to Egypt, they also will be mutilated prior to slaughter.

In light of these reports, I have just asked Australia’s agriculture minister to take immediate action and place a ban on all shipments of Australian animals to Egypt. Please join me and do the same.

Australia: Stand up to live export cruelty – Tell PM Gillard She Is A Perfect Animal Abuser That Decent People Around the World Hate.

WARNING: graphic images have been censored however this video is still distressing.

http://www.animalsaustralia.org/take_action/live-export-disaster-pakistan/

Live animal export is an inherently cruel trade, which is why it is opposed by every animal protection organisation throughout the world.

It continues for one reason only: profit. What might happen, if exported animals were deemed ‘unfit’ for human consumption and lost all of their economic value? It happened in Pakistan. The reality will shock you.

WARNING: graphic images have been censored however this video is still distressing.

Please – Stand up to live export cruelty

Today, every MP in Australia needs to hear one important message: The actions of the world’s largest live exporter, Wellard, have contributed to Australia’s worst live export disaster.

They must be held to account and lose their export licence.

How did it happen? When a shipload of 21,000 sheep was rejected by Bahrain, Wellard had no legitimate contingency plan (despite this being a requirement of their export permit).

They considered two options:

1.      Kill the animals at sea and dump their bodies overboard;

2.      2. Pakistan — a country that didn’t even have government approval to take sheep when the ship left Australia.

To avoid another disaster at sea, the Australian government fast tracked Pakistan’s approval to receive the sheep. But there was a glaring omission in this plan. Wellard failed to ensure that the Pakistan Government were willing to import a shipment that had been rejected by Bahrain over disease concerns.

Whether the animals were healthy or not became irrelevant — the Pakistan Government felt they had been deliberately deceived. Local authorities ordered the animals be culled, and Wellard lost complete control.

Deemed ‘unfit’ for human consumption, and without economic value, these animals were treated like worthless rubbish. Animals were dragged, beaten, their throats were sawn at with blunt knives before they were thrown into mass graves — some still alive hours later.

The Australian government has admitted that it’s beyond their control to prevent another ‘Pakistan’. MOUs with importing countries, to prevent shipments being rejected, have failed. Regulations to prevent cruelty on the scale seen in Indonesia last year, have failed.

What is profitable has never been the defining argument between right and wrong in any civilised society. It is offensive to the majority of caring people that profit continues to be used as justification for a trade that has been responsible for such suffering and cruelty.

If you are Australian – Please urgently call on your federal MP and the Minister (Bob Carr) and Shadow Minister (Julie Bishop) for Foreign Affairs to ensure that Wellard loses their export licence for their role in this disaster.

Importantly, please also remind your MP that you will not vote for a party that supports live exports.

Information coming out is confusing – some says that most of the dogs have neen killed; other messages say not.

It will not hurt to send messages to the authorities regardless using the sample letters below.

The town of this shelter is near to Sarajevo; and we are informed that since its exposure by locals, many of the dogs have been killed.  Possibly some of the adult dogs and the puppies have been rescued by locals; but this is unconfirmed.

Sample Letter – better if you personalise it:

Dear Sir,

I request that the Government of Bosnian and Herzegovina, the Istocni Stari Grad authorities and municipality mayor Bojo Gašanović in particular, investigate the matter of the Hreša dog shelter.

We have reliable reports and eyewitness accounts substantiated by photographs that that over 50 dogs are being kept in inhumane conditions, without adequate food or water or veterinary treatment, that numerous dogs are kept in tiny cages, that dead dogs are left amongst living dogs. Furthermore, there are reports that any non-purebred dog caught by the shelter is killed, and that purebred dogs are stolen from owners and only released to the owner if a ransom is paid.

It is understood that Slaviša Jovčić, the manager of the shelter and director of Glog, the company that built the shelter, was promised 130 000 KM from the municipalities for the shelter, but the full amount of the money was never paid by the municipality and therefore Slaviša Jovčić cannot ensure the care of the dogs.

We demand that a full investigation is undertaken, that the municipality ensures that the facility is immediately provided with funds to care for these dogs. Modern practices must be implemented, giving food and fresh water and the facility be must kept sanitary and properly staffed with veterinary professionals so the animals are cared for and, ultimately, caring homes need to be found for these dogs.

This situation has sparked a global outcry and we look to the Bosnian and Herzegovinan justice system and authorities to conform with EU standards regarding animal welfare, and to apply the law that was passed in Bosnia Herzegovina incorporating these EU standards.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.

Yours sincerely,

And in Serbo-Croatian:

Dragi gospodine,

UPDATE, NOVEMBER 3, 2012: Activists arrived today to find 40 dogs missing. Workers at the shelter said they had been killed and buried in a garbage dump. The activists managed to release and rescue a mother dog and her seven puppies and one other adult dog. They then had to leave the premises as they feared for their lives.

November 1, 2012

Reliable reports and eyewitness accounts substantiated by photographs show that over 50 dogs are being kept in inhumane conditions in the Hreša Dog Shelter, on the outskirts of Sarajevo.

They are completely without adequate food or water or veterinary treatment.

Numerous dogs are kept in tiny cages, one dog in a cage no larger than itself.

Dead dogs are left amongst living dogs.

Witnesses say that any non-purebred dog caught by the shelter is killed, and that purebred dogs are stolen from owners and only released to the owner if a ransom is paid.

Winter is here, and with heavy snowfall and temperatures hitting -30 and no heating in the shelter, without immediate help many of these dogs will die.

Serbia: October News From Cat Shelter ‘Felix’ – Winter Is Approaching.

Dear all;

Below is the latest news from Danica at Cat Shelter Felix.

This is a big ask, but if you are able to provide any financial help then it will be more than very much appreciated.  We are currently trying different other ways to get in much needed financial help so that all the building repairs can be sorted and paid for before the winter really arrives, but some of these applications are being delayed.

With over 20 new cats arriving at the shelter, this means that there are 20 additional mouths to feed, as well as paying for the building work.  So please give anything you can; we do not like to have to ask for money, but with Winter just around the corner, every penny will be spent very wisely helping the cats and paying for essential repair  work at the shelter.

“ ……… good will but we had no other choice, so we ended up with a big debt which I hope we’ll be able to pay off some day. It’s been said a long time ago that fortune favors the daring…

More than 20 new kitties have arrived at the shelter over this year, so there’re many more mouths to feed, which wouldn’t be such a problem if it wasn’t for the enormous costs of shelter repairs.”

Here is a message from Danica:

Dear friends and supporters everywhere;

”With winter rapidly approaching, we are racing against time to get the shelter ready for the cold months ahead.  The new insulation layer has been added to the interior walls of the indoor enclosures, the exterior doors of the cat rooms have been strengthened and everything is hopefully strong enough to endure whatever nasty weather comes along.

Our brilliant plans of fixing up the shelter completely have become only a partial reality, as we haven’t succeeded in raising enough funds. Or rather, everything was in worse shape than we thought at the beginning. Even back then when the repairs first started, I was very much aware that we were biting off more than we could chew but I also knew that we must try to fix as much as possible or we wouldn’t have a chance to get through another winter. The entire ordeal has lasted for months and even now it’s far from finished but at least we’re facing the future with hope. It may have sounded risky to start such a huge project relying only on personal means and other peoples’ good will but we had no other choice, so we ended up with a big debt which I hope we’ll be able to pay off some day. It’s been said a long time ago that fortune favors the daring…

More than 20 new kitties have arrived at the shelter over this year, so there’re many more mouths to feed, which wouldn’t be such a problem if it wasn’t for the enormous costs of shelter repairs. I’ve already reconciled to the fact that most of the people who find a cat or a kitten can’t keep it, but instead try to find another temporary or permanent home for that animal, and forget about it instantly as soon as it becomes someone else’s worry. Out of more than a dozen people whose kitties I’ve taken in this summer, only a few have ever asked about them. What do you know! Nihil novi – nothing new under the sun.

All of the kitties in the shelter are safe and loved for life, but they do need help. I’m not posting dramatic pictures, my cats aren’t skinny and sick generally, they do not fend for themselves, their lives aren’t hanging by a thread but their future depends on donations, and the kindness of strangers, nevertheless. While every appeal for help can pull on people’s heartstrings, it’s obvious that everyone is more compelled to donate when the animals look horrible and it’s somewhat comprehensive.

Felix kitties are fattish and relaxed and don’t seem to have a care in the world but on the other hand we all know that cats are supposed to live for a very long time and need constant care and food regardless of what they look like. My kitties’ lives weren’t always a bed of roses and all of them have come a long way since the days they fought to survive somewhere out there, alone, abused and utterly unimportant…Please, help them stay happy and healthy now that they finally know how it feels to have a home!”

Thank you so much for helping my kitties!

Warm wishes

Danica

China: Conference organised to discuss the importance of animal welfare in the role of veterinarians in China.

Animal welfare in China strengthened by Chinese Veterinary Medical Association

by LAAR

Vets and animal welfare experts from around the world are gathering in Suzhou tomorrow for a three day conference to discuss the importance of animal welfare in the role of veterinarians in China.

The Chinese Veterinary Medical Association’s 3rd China Veterinary Conference features speakers from China, the UK, and Thailand.

The conference has been organised by the Chinese Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) in partnership with organisations including Animals Asia and The Jeanne Marchig International Centre for Animal Welfare Education (JMICAWE).

The conference comes at a time when increasing globalisation, the development of industrialised farming, and a burgeoning pet industry sees China’s veterinary profession coming under increasing pressure to meet international expectations on animal welfare standards.

The conference will cover animal welfare issues relating to a range of industries and species including companion animals, livestock, laboratory and wildlife species. Topics include humane education, meeting the OIE minimum competencies in animal welfare, humane slaughter, animal welfare of livestock, animal welfare in scientific research, and improving welfare in veterinary clinics. The conference is supported by Animals Asia, the Hong Kong Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (HKSPCA), and the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA).

In advance of the conference, a week of collaborative clinical skills and welfare teaching was delivered to undergraduate veterinary students at Nanjing Agricultural University. The training presented key animal welfare and clinical skills teaching utilising cutting-edge humane education techniques. This programme was delivered by Heather Bacon and Hayley Walters from the JMICAWE and Yan Qing and Pei Xin of Animals Asia.

Professor Natalie Waran of the JMICAWE commented:

“These activities are representative of the increasing importance of animal welfare education in international veterinary training. The links between animal welfare and animal health are well recognised, and the ethical responsibility of the veterinary profession to act as ambassadors for animal welfare is increasingly important in today’s society.”

Care for Chinese Animals   http://careforchineseanimals.net/about/

This site is a project of the “World Wide Legal Action 4 Animal Rights” (LAAR), working in collaboration with animal advocates in China to inform and educate the general public about Animal Rights Issues in China. This site’s aim is to network and raise support to the animal rights activists working within China.

Founded by Paola Ghidotti (Italy) in 2011, “Care for Chinese Animals”, is a growing group of individuals from around the world, united to support China’s Animal Advocacy

The Chinese Animal Rights activists are doing a great job in China to inform about the dog/cat meat and fur trade, to save the animals. Show your support.

Animal suffering in China is huge and growing. Whether it be by individuals or in industries, millions of cats, dogs, rabbits, foxes, bears, cows, pigs etc. are horribly abused.

At the same time, there is no legislation to protect them whatsoever, which leaves local animal welfare groups stand empty-handed in their battle against cruelty in China.

China has only some laws protecting endangered species of wild animals, but no protection for other animals within the country. For instance,

Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Protection of Wildlife Adopted at the Fourth Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Seventh National People’s Congress on November 8, 1988 and promulgated by Order No.9 of the President of the People’s Republic of China on November 8, 1988. This law came into effect on March 1st 1989

In addition, China has a law to control animal epidemics, but this has been written to maintain the health and welfare of people, rather than the welfare of animals.

Law of the People’s Republic of China on Animal Epidemic Prevention. Adopted at the 26th Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Eighth National People’s Congress on July 3, 1997 and amended at the 29th Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Tenth National People’s Congress on August 30, 2007

This community intends to bring people together who care too for animals in China, and support campaigns to help them. Please, join us and invite your friends too! For the love of Chinese animals.

Norway: New Horrific Images in a Decisive Year for the Fur Industry – Close Them ALL Down !

New horrific images in a decisive year for the fur industry

Once again horrendous animal suffering has been exposed on Norwegian fur farms. After ten years of delay, the fur industry has failed in its last attempt to save its own skin.

Photos from our investigation

See a small collection of photos collected during our 2012 investigation.

Link for images provided at very end.

The fur industry has been given countless opportunities to “improve animal welfare”, says Odd Harald Eidsmo from Animal Protection Norway. – Yet for the fourth time since 2008 we are able to uncover gross and widespread animal cruelty on Norwegian fur farms. The fur industry has failed completely in its attempt to improve the conditions for the animals. Animal Protection Norway and Network for Animal Freedom today reveal new horrific images from Norwegian fur farms.

24 fur farms from Troms in the north to Agder in the south have been inspected unannounced during the summer and the autumn. Thousands of pictures and hours of video documentation show that mink and foxes suffer on Norwegian fur farms every single day.

The government must shut down the fur farms

The inspections document how the fur industry’s attempts to clean up have been fruitless: Injured and suffering fur animals were found on all the inspected fur farms. Some of the findings were animals with legs, tails and ears bitten off, painful bite wounds and compulsive behaviour. On a farm in Hedmark, fox pups were living in a cage with their dead, rotting mother. In Telemark the inspectors found six mink with their hind legs chewed off. In Trøndelag several mink lived with severe flesh wounds on their heads from being attacked by other mink over a prolonged period of time.

-In 2002 a united parliament supported the claim that the fur industry had to achieve considerable improvements in order to avoid being shut down, says Per Arne Tøllefsen, press secretary of Network for Animal Freedom. Ten years on, the animals are still living in the same shameful conditions. We now expect the government to initiate the dismantling of the industry.

A ministerial committee is currently evaluating whether the industry should be banned in Norway.  YES – NOW – IMMEDIATELY – STOP THE ABUSE !!

ANOTHER CHANCE TO HELP STOP THE EVICTION

Right now, Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is preparing a report on the eviction for the Prime Minister who will decide the fate of our sanctuary.

 Animals Asia’s  website    http://www.animalsasia.org/

YOUR VOICE COUNTS

We have an opportunity to convince the ministry that evicting Animals Asia’s sanctuary and its 104 bears is unjust and wrong at every level.

We’re told that they plan to submit their report on 26 October. That gives us very little time to make our case.

Please send an URGENT email pointing out why the eviction must stop. (We have prepared one for you.)

Send mails to:   vp@mard.gov.vn<vp@mard.gov.vn>

Please, please send an email today and then please share and ask your friends to do the same. Your voices really do count.

Stop the eviction of Animals Asia’s Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre

SAMPLE LETTER  SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Sirs,

I write to express my concern that Animals Asia’s world-class bear sanctuary is to be evicted from Tam Dao National Park by the Ministry of Defence.

To close down the only bear-dedicated rescue centre in Vietnam, would send a signal to the international community that Vietnam is not serious about ending bear bile farming and rehabilitating the bears that have suffered.

The Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre should be the pride of Vietnam, and a sign of the prestige of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Please advise the prime minister to overturn the decision to evict the bear rescue centre and honour your agreement.

Yours faithfully,
