Romania: (Brasov) Profiteers are Planning the Mass Murder of Stray Dogs! – Please Take Action – See Below.

(Info from http://www.etn-ev.de/)

Brand-new information from Brasov –

Profiteers are planning the mass murder of stray dogs!

Behind the back of the mayor of Brasov and together with several communities on the outskirts of Brasov, Flavius Barbulescu, director of SPGA in Brasov, founded a company to build a supra-regional detention camp for stray dogs. Hoping on the soon to be legalized mass euthanasia, this shelter with closed-circuit television monitoring and no public access, will be more like an extermination camp for stray dogs.  All this is done with the assistance of the Vice Mayor of Brasov, Adrian Gabor, who is in charge of the dogs in Brasov.

Flavius Barbulescu

Barbulescu is responsible for all dog catching activity in a 200 km radius around Brasov with more than 30.000 dogs killed exclusively in Brasov.

Adrian Gabor breaks his promise given to Princess Maja von Hohenzollern in 2009,  in which he agreed to neutering the dogs and not to kill them. In secrecy,  they prepare a massacre.

Please demand the mayor of Brasov to prevent and stop these plans, to remove the dog Killer Flavius Barbulescu from office and to remind the vice mayor of his promise.

The urban dog shelter in Brasov Stupin led by Flavius Barbulescu must be closed immediately and the control of dogs in Brasov must be transferred to the local animal welfare organizations.

This must not happen!!

Please demand of the Mayor of Brasov:

–  to stop these plans

–  to revoke Flavius Barbulescu’s responsibility for the dogs

–  to remind the vice mayor of his pledge and to stop him

–  to immediately close the municipal dog pound of Brasov Stupin under the control of Flavius Barbulescu and to transfer the care and responsibility for the Brasov dogs to the local animal welfare organisations

France: Protest To Air France (AF) For Transporting Laboratory Animals – AF: Official Carrier For Cannes Film Festival. Sample Letter Included.

PROTEST TO AIR FRANCE FOR TRANSPORTING LABORATORY ANIMALS!!!!

Air France is the “Official Airline” of the world famous Cannes Film Festival in France :

http://www.festival-cannes.com/en/about/officialPartners.html

They are also the number one transporter of laboratory animals, transporting tens of thousands of animals around the world for the vivisection industry each year, and for this reason Air France-KLM is the target of an international campaign: http://www.airsouffrance.fr/en

Please contact the organisers of the Cannes Film Festival to inform them of Air France’s participation in the vivisection industry and to voice your disappointment in their choice of “Official Partners”, (for convenience all the provided emails are in one group below): http://www.festival-cannes.com/en/about/contactUs.html

*** SAMPLE LETTER **; (PLEASE EDIT FOR MAXIMUM EFFECT):

For the attention of the Cannes Film Festival;

I have been deeply saddened to learn that Air France is an “Official Partner” in your organisation, and that Air France has even be described as the “Official Airline of the Cannes Film Festival”.

I’m sure you will not be aware but Air France is the number one transporter of laboratory animals; often transporting dogs, cats, monkeys and other animals destined for research laboratories in the cargo holds of their passenger planes, alongside their passenger’s luggage!

Air France is the only passenger airline transporting monkeys from Mauritius, transporting thousands each year, yet there have been numerous investigations into the Mauritian primate trade and each time shocking animal cruelty has been uncovered: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vAESsMkAXs

The majority of airlines have banned the transport of laboratory animals, often following objections from their passengers, and Air France is one of the few passenger airlines to to be involved in this trade. Many scientists now reject the efficacity of animals in scientific research and the weight of evidence suggests that animal research is ineffective in predicting results in human beings: http://www.safermedicines.org/

I ask that you raise my concerns with your “Official Partner” and that you reconsider your own position in the knowledge of what they are complicit in. I imagine many of your guests wouldn’t approve of the mistreatment of animals and therefore I urge you to consider their opinions when deciding whether to make Air France an “Official Partner” next year.

Sincerely,

**** YOUR NAME  and NATIONALITY ****

Uk: Uk Conservative Government Headed by David Cameron Blocks Circus Ban and Ignores The Consulted Wishes of 94% Of The British Public !

Captive Animals Protection Society, PO Box 591, Manchester, M12 0DP, England, UK.

International Support Welcome – Please Sign the Petition Detailed Below.

In the Uk, David Cameron has invented this term called ‚the Big Society’ in which the public are supposed to give their views and the government will listen.  94% of the British public want an end to wild animals being used in travelling circuses in the Uk.

David Cameron is ignoring the wishes of 94% of the public and their involvement in the big society.

94% of the British Public Want A Wild Animal Ban in Circuses

– But David Cameron Does Not Agree – So No Ban !

So much for Conservative inventions such as this !

UK Conservative Government Headed by David Cameron Blocks Circus Ban

After the highly publicized beating of Anne the elephant from Bobby Roberts’ Super Circus last month, a ban on using wild animals in British circuses looked very promising.

But now the government headed by David Cameron has done a complete turnaround and intends to block their support for a ban.

Despite repeated polls that show between 80 and 94 percent of the British public wants to end the use of wild animals in the three traveling circuses in the UK and despite promises of support from the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), ministers are expected to announce their preference for “self-regulation by circuses.”

The Independent said the move comes from the Prime Minister (David Cameron) who “wishes to reduce Government regulation.”

The Independent launched its own campaign calling for the Prime Minister to rethink the ban and announce a timetable to implement one.  More than 6,000 people signed their petition.

Click Here for information on the petition.

They wrote:

Amid widespread public disapproval, the number of circuses using wild animals has fallen steadily from 20 in 1997 to three today. They use more than 20 animals. The Great British Circus is touring with at least five tigers and two camels, and is breeding lions for future performances. Peter Jolly’s Circus has four pythons, a zebra, a camel and one horned African cattle called an ankole, while Circus Mondao has two zebras and two camels. All three circuses say their animals are well looked after, travel only short distances and are not harmed by their trainers.

A ban has the support of animal welfare organizations such as Animal Defenders International, Born Free, Captive Animals’ Protection Society, RSPCA and the British Veterinary Association, which represents 12,000 veterinarians.

Click Here for information on the petition.

The RSPCA reported the animals live in one quarter of the minimum space that is required in a zoo and their circus training, transportation and performance causes “damage to their mental wellbeing.”

Liz Tyson, director of the Captive Animals’ Protection Society, said:

“From an ethical standpoint, there is no justification for people to teach animals tricks or to force them to perform for our entertainment. We regularly get people saying to us: ‘I can’t believe this is still legal.’ People make the assumption that we have got the highest standards for animal welfare in the world but the reality is that we are falling behind – Bolivia introduced a ban on the use of all animals in circuses in 2009.”

The circuses countered by saying the animals are well cared for and they travel no more than 20 miles with the animals confined.  They report that it’s in their best “business” interest to look after them.

Serbia: ‘Lizi’ – Rescued After 2 Days On The Road After Being Hit by a Car – Her Story (and Donation Link).

This is the story about Lizi (Njanja).

Lizi on the road as she was found

Milan Calic, who is running the shelter “Riska”, traveled to the south of Serbia and on the road found a dog, who was hit by the car. He found out that the dog was lying there for 2 days. Of course, Milan took the dog to shelter “Riska”.

At the vets waiting for treatment

We have found the donor for her operation. DVM Jugoslav Vasic operated both legs, but he insisted that there is no need to  X-ray her spine.

Unfortunately, not even 15 days after the surgery, could she stand on her own. We consulted the other vet DVM Milan Matic. X-ray was taken and we found out that the spine was hurt and that she is pregnant. DVM Milan Matic said, he can operate the spine but he needs a MR. MR was taken under the anesthesia. During that, an accident occurred and Lizi was without oxygen longer period of time and she got blind.

Then she was sterilized and 10 days after her spine was operated. Unfortunately, our Lizi, who is now blind, can’t stand on her back legs. Also her muscles atrophied. We are taking her again tomorrow on X-ray.

Post treatment

What more can I say. She eats very well and she is full of optimism. It would be great if we could find someone, who would take care of her because I believe, that with the right treatment and perhaps a wheel chair, she could walk again.

She has a chip and she is vaccinated against rabies.

Kind regards,

SPCA unearths 52 dogs from mass grave

Date: Sunday May. 8, 2011 5:27 PM PT

The B.C. SPCA said Sunday it has new evidence to forward to Crown council for possible animal cruelty charges against the Whistler, B.C. tour company that shot and killed more than 100 healthy sled dogs in April last year.

So far, animal welfare agents have dug up the remains of 52 of more than 100 animals buried in a mass grave near the popular ski resort city.

The agency believes exhuming the grave should be completed by Tuesday.

More than 50 of the bodies have been sent away for necropsies, but results will not be available for several weeks.

Marcie Moriarty of the SPCA said the agency is pursuing Criminal Code charges for causing unnecessary pain and suffering to an animal. If found guilty, the person responsible could face up to five years behind bars.

“Throats have been cut and the animal bled out. That is not an acceptable way to kill an animal in Canada,” she said.

“If the animal was bludgeoned to death and didn’t die instantly from a shot to the head for example. If multiple gunshot wounds and the science could show the first shot didn’t kill the animal, all of those could be examples.”

The SPCA estimates the investigation could cost up to $225,000. The provincial government has committed $100,000, while the rest will come from donations to the non-profit agency.

Moriarty says the hefty price tag is justified.

“This is absolutely worth it to speak for animals in B.C. We’re an enforcement agency, we don’t get to pick and choose what case we do,” she told CTV News on Sunday.

SPCA members are being helped by a team of forensic experts from across North America, including some of whom who aided in the investigation of serial killer Robert Pickton.

The initial dig was severely slowed because of debris covering the ground, said forensic anthropologist Dr. Bill Hagland.

“We started out first couple of days as just moving hundreds of wooden boxes, dog house boxes. This is just a big dumping area for the work that these people do with the sled dogs tour group company.”

Hagland said workers will begin working on their hands and knees with more delicate instruments once the remaining bodies are exposed.

“They’re dead but they’re going to have a story to tell us,” he said. “I’m here to help the dogs.”

Moriarty said the animals will get a proper burial after the investigation is complete.

News of the gruesome cull surfaced earlier this winter after workers’ compensation documents were leaked to the media. The documents outlined a claim by a worker who said he was experiencing post-traumatic stress after killing the dogs.

The animals were under the control of a Howling Dog Tours. Another firm called Outdoor Adventures had a stake in the company when the cull took place, but insists it had no idea about what had happened.

In his claim, Robert Fawcell said he shot or slit the throats of at least 70 dogs in “execution-style killings” over the course of two days, at the end of a slow sledding season. In some cases, Fawcett stood on the animals with one foot to shoot them. Several that didn’t die from the gunshots were stabbed multiple times.

Following a public outcry, the B.C. government appointed a task force to review the local dogsled industry. The task force published 10 recommendations last month, which include boosting penalties for animal cruelty, instituting standards for the sled-dog industry and increasing funding for B.C.’s SPCA by $100,000.

Premier Christy Clark endorsed the report’s recommendations after it was released and pledged to enact what she called the toughest animal cruelty legislation in the country.

Clark said the province will increase the maximum penalty in animal cruelty cases to a $75,000 fine, 24 months in jail, or both. The current law allows for a maximum fine of $10,000 and a maximum jail sentence of six months. The changes will also extend the current six-month statute of limitations in such cases.

Uk: **Uk Residents ONLY ** – David Cameron MP – Uk Prime Minister – Is He Now Going to U Turn on His Green Government Promise and Betray British Wildlife ?? – Petition To Sign Please.

The ‘Green’ Animal Welfare Betrayer ? ! ?

– David Cameron MP – will this pro-hunt Prime Minister (Uk) who promised to run ‘the greenest government ever’ now do yet another U turn and be the biggest wildlife criminal the Uk has seen ?

On Monday, it was revealed that the government might scrap vital laws which protect wildlife and the countryside and help stop climate change. Hardliners have branded the rules ‘red tape’ and say they could be scrapped within months. [1]

We need to work together to make sure our wildlife, our countryside and our planet are protected.

In the past, David Cameron has made headlines promising to run “the greenest government ever”. [2] We need to convince him that scrapping these laws would be a disaster for his reputation. A huge petition will prove to Cameron that he can’t afford to break his green promises.

*** UK RESIDENTS ONLY ***

Please take 30 seconds to speak up for legal protection for wildlife and the environment:

http://www.38degrees.org.uk/

Among the laws under threat are the Climate Change Act and the Wildlife and Countryside Act. These aren’t little-known laws that no one cares about. The Wildlife and Countryside Act protects wild birds, their nests and eggs, and makes sure that national parks and marine reserves are protected. The UK’s Climate Change Act was a world first which helps make sure we reduce our emissions. [3]

We know that when we work together we can make sure the government doesn’t get away with plans which could hurt the environment. When they decided to try to sell off our forests, over half a million of us got together and convinced them to drop their plans. [4]

The government says it is “consulting” before scrapping these laws – so let’s give them a consultation response they can’t ignore! Please help make sure we have a huge petition telling the government to keep laws which protect our wildlife and our environment.

Sign the petition to send a powerful message to David Cameron and the government:

PS: The laws under threat in the government’s “red tape challenge” include the Climate Change Act, National Parks Act, Clean Air Act and the Wildlife and Countryside Act. Do these sound like “red tape” to you?
