India: Terrible Cruelty on Female Dog – But She Survives Due To Work of Dr. Sharma

INDA0001

An Unspeakably horrible and shameful act

Dear friends,

please see the pictures attached and read the message below.

Rishi1

Rishi2

I have seen this dog myself at Jeevashram a couple of months back when she was brought under in that condition. Thanks to Dr Vinod Sharma and his skill with surgery that the dog is doing well and came out of this horrible ordeal.

But this incidence is not just about how a dog was saved but also shows to what extent a human mind can go that it can cross all boundaries of shame, cruelty and ruthlessness for mere pleasure of satisfying one’s sense of self/ ego and power.

All this was done just for displaying one’s power over a meek and speechless animal.

And it puts all humans to shame to know that many such maniacs are roaming freely in our society, and who are still untouched because there are no rules, laws controlling them. After all many still believe that its just an animal that has been ill treated beyond all comprehensions, but those same people don’t know that these mindsets only make deadly ccriminals.

India: Vigilance Request For Dogs In Bangalore

INDA0001

Dear All,

This morning a Dog  Van was spotted at Doddanekundi (Marathahalli Post , Outer Ring Road). The van picked up a few stray dogs & sped away. We are not very sure what this is all about . May be it was for ABC by one of the NGOs  but most of us our expecting foul play  .

Since we have no definite idea about what exactly is going on, I request all of you to keep a watch in your area (specially if you are in Marthahalli, then please be more alert). In case you notice something suspicious , please click some photos immediately &  also note the vehicle number so that further action can be taken.

We dont want our furry friends to suffer. If they are on the road, we can get them vaccinated & sterilized but we are against putting them down (which has happened in the past in Bangalore & is a prevelant practice still in most of the Indian tons inspite of it being iliegal). T

This is just a precaution we are taking. But better to be safe than sorry.

Please pass on the message to your friends (animal lovers )

Anything suspicious, please contact

sherry2704@gmail.com & home.caninefriends@gmail.com

Thanks & Regards,

USA: Dog Racing To End In Rhode Island on 8th August

USA

Dear Friends,

Today I bring you great news!!

After hearing from greyhound advocates around the world, the Rhode Island legislature has announced it will not hold a special summer session in order to prevent Twin River from shutting down live racing.

This means that dog racing will end on August 8!

When lawmakers report back in September, we will introduce legislation to end dog racing as a matter of law. Please thank Representative Patricia Serpa and Senator Lou Raptakis for sponsoring this bill, which will end dog racing for good in New England.

Click here to read an Associated Press story about our rally at the state capitol.

**To hear the latest update on the campaign to end dog racing please tune into Sins of Omission Radio on Monday, August 3 at 9 p.m. (Eastern time). I will discuss the “Unseen Costs of Greyhound Racing” with host, Paula Abeles. Log into www.blogtalkradio.com/NQR and call 347-677-0792 with your questions and comments.**

Once Twin River ends dog racing, there will be just eight states remaining where dog racing is legal and operational.

We are committed to ending dog racing in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Texas, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Please help us reach this goal by becoming a member of the Gracie Club or by making a contribution today.

Together, we can end dog racing nationwide!

For the greyhounds,

Christine A. Dorchak, Esq.
President

Tom2

Tom1

Abandoned Irish bred greyhound called ‘Chapelane Tom’ found as a stray in Croydon (UK)-important appeal for info-please see below

More info here on ‘Chapelane Tom’  from Greyhound Data as you can see he has very distinctive markings-

http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?rt=ah&lt=tia&sex=m&color=W&birthyear=200x&birthland=IE

‘Chapelane Tom’ raced at Oxford, Milton Keynes and Limerick in Ireland.

Greyhound Crusaders/SWAP team UK have recently been alerted to a greyhound called ‘Chapelane Tom’ (racing name) who was dumped in Croydon (UK) in Mid-July and was taken to a dog pound where he was given the standard seven days before being put to sleep. Luckily he was rescued and is now safe in a foster home. Tom was underweight and had some rotten teeth which have now been extracted, we are pleased to report he is very happy and doing well. He has also been neutered.

CAN YOU HELP US?

We are now appealing for more info on this case and wish to find the previous owner who abandoned him and bring them to justice.

Do you recognise this dog?

Do you know the previous owner?

Tattoo numbers are AH TIA which indicates he is Irish bred.

Please help us to trace the previous owner of this poor dog who could have ended up in a chest freezer dead!! All info given to us will be treated in the strictest of confidence.

Thank you

Serbia: NGO Requests to Government Ministry for Information About Zoo Animals Result in ….. Order From Ministry for NGO to Re-Vaccinate Its Animals or Face Massive Fine

SERB0001

Five days ago (late July 2009), one Serbian animal welfare organisation (EPAR of Subotica city) filed a charge with the government requesting that they forward a list of euthanasia, forensic results and diagnosis relating to deaths of animals in Palic Zoo, located 6km from the city of Subotica in Northern Serbia.

In a response sent by Mr. Micovic, Director of the government Veterinary Department, Mr. Micovic declares that the zoo does not come under the control of, or basically have anything to do with Republic Veterinary Inspectors.

According to our information and the new Serbian law for animal welfare, republic veterinary inspectors must be involved with all aspects of animal welfare WHEREVER animals are present in the country (Serbia).

In the past, republic veterinary inspectors who have visited and inspected the EPAR shelter many times, and always having found everything to be correct, have, on 26th July, now written to EPAR shelter and demanded that 174 dogs at the shelter must immediately be re-vaccinated.  All of the dogs which the inspectors require to be vaccinated were vaccinated on 21/07/2008, almost one year ago to the day.

If the dogs are not vaccinated, then EPAR have been informed that they will be punished by the veterinary inspectors.  EPAR will be fined 3,000,000 dinar and the President of EPAR will personally be fined 300,000 dinar.

EPAR shelter has many times requested that the veterinary station at Subotica visits EPAR shelter and undertakes a vaccination of all the dogs who are not already vaccinated.  Those dogs, the 174 vaccinated by EPAR in 07/2008 could also be re-vaccinated now, one year later.

EPAR shelter, being a shelter which takes animals from the streets and animals which are delivered / left at the entrance of the shelter, requested that a veterinary inspector attends the shelter and undertakes the vaccinations using money from the republic budget allocated for such vaccinations

But in return, the veterinary station director has responded in writing and demanded that the EPAR shelter pays 500 dinar out of its own funding for each and every dog which they declare has to be vaccinated.

174 dogs x 500 dinar = 87,000 dinar.

demand july 09

demand 2

Quite understandably, EPAR consider that this is a pressure being put on them by the government simply because of the original EPAR charges relating to information requests about Palic Zoo and the requests for copies of information and documentation about the standards for animals at the zoo.

EPAR are correct to think that they are being punished by the government for requesting information which should now be provided in accordance with the new animal welfare law of Serbia.

EPAR have also campaigned hard for the government to investigate further and to prosecute people and organisations in relation to hunting issues throughout Serbia.

The government have done nothing about this in the form of any prosecutions, but they have now attempted to impose an 87,000 dinar penalty on EPAR shelter for vaccinations which should be funded out of the national budget.

Please view the following very recent photographs (26/07/09) taken at Palic Zoo and then ask yourself if you consider that animals here should be exempt from any veterinary inspections by government authorities.

Brown Bear Enclosure with Adjacent Leopard Enclosure

The Palic Zoo website is at the following, with a link to the ‘animals gallery’:

   http://www.zoopalic.co.rs/index.php/gallery2/action/list/?g2_itemId=224

Pictures taken of the zoo animals by independent investigators in recent weeks at the Palic zoo are shown above.  We consider that in the least, especially in relation to the conditions in which the Brown Bear and its neighbour, the leopard are kept, the very, very least which should be done by the government is to send veterinary inspectors into the zoo to check on the health of individual animals and as importantly, animal living conditions.

SAV have been in contact with international zoo check organisations; supplying photographs of the animals and living conditions where necessary.  This is an on-going task and we are awaiting responses.

So it is rather strange; an animal welfare organisation (EPAR) asks for information on animal welfare at a Serbian zoo; and the government responds by informing that the zoo inspections have nothing to do with their veterinary department inspectors, and yet at the very same time the government veterinary authority demands that the animal welfare organisation which originally asks the questions now has now been instructed to immediately vaccinate 174 dogs at their shelter, at a cost of 87,000 dinar, of which the government wants nothing to do with funding !

This situation is currently under investigation by campaigners, and we think and hope that we will have some breaking news on the veterinary vaccination procedures in the very near future.  Information obtained to date appears to be very interesting !

Please watch for new posts and updates which we hope to publish within the next 3 or 4 days.

 Meerut, Uttar Pradesh,  India

India is the only country in world that provides in its Constitution for mercy and care of the animals.

BUT ……

Here’s proof that the Meerut administration has unleashed shocking brutality on the stray dogs in the area to protect & shield the ILLEGAL CATTLE SLAUGHTER HOUSES.

For the government of Uttar Pradesh state, India  and its functionaries it seems like a perfect solution that people are venting out their anger by killing ALL and INNOCENT dogs. It suits the bureaucracy as it does not to bother the SLAUGHTER HOUSES and STOP the EVER FOURISHING TRADE OF Illegal CATTLE MEAT INDUSTRY in Meerut.

In a tragic incident, a five-year-old boy who had gone out in search of his mother in a field, has been attacked and bitten to death by a pack of street dogs at Kazipur, Meerut. As a result the villagers are eliminating each stray by brutally killing them.

They are ostensibly ‘remedying’ the situation that led to death of two children in village Kazipur, Meerut, allegedly due to stray dog attacks.

In fact, there is an illegal abattoir in village Kazipur, which is violating every possible norm – pollution control, animal waste disposal, etc. Apparently, 5000 animals, mainly cattle, INCLUDING COWS are slaughtered in the abattoir every day – and then, the animal parts that are not used, and blood, bones, etc., are all allowed to flow into an open nullah adjacent to the abattoir, that flows through village Kazipur and beyond.   The strays of the area feed on these animal remains as a consequence ; or attacked children who ventured too close to the nullah that is their food source.

THIS IS THE REAL CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM .

THE ADMINISTRATION TURNS A BLIND EYE TO THIS WHILE PEOPLE TAKE LAW IN THEIR HANDS.  PEOPLE ARE ENJOYING THE ACT OF KILLING DOGS AS AN ENTERTAINMENT FOR THEM (see pictures).

In any event, what has followed, and continues to unfold every single day, is murder, and cruelty beyond belief. They are caught, they are cornered, many have been viciously beaten to death. The dogs are caught in the most brutal manner possible, kept without food and water for 2 – 3 days until a sizeable number are ‘collected’, and then – mainly released into the forest, or surreptitiously put down or beaten to death

AS NO LAW AND ORDER IS RESPECTED IN MEERUT anymore.

INCLUDING THE POLICE, D.M., MAYOR, or U.P. GOVERNMENT, no one is bothered to stop/ control people from taking the law in their hands and brutally slaughtering dogs using innovative methods, which also includes use of arms and weapons.

All this despite the SUPREME COURT of INDIA has put a STAY AGAINST ANY KIND OF KILLING OF DOGS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.

series of photographs are attached, forwarded by Jeev Karuna Sanstha, Meerut. Some of them are 15 – 25 days old, and some as recent as 3 – 5 days.

The Animal Welfare Board of India has written thrice to various functionaries within the administration. They have advised the administration regarding the correct method of controlling stray dog population. They have apprised them  as to the law – the PCA Act, the ABC Rules, etc. They have offered help and guidance, for setting up the requisite sterilization, immunization infrastructure within Meerut. Eventually, they have threatened legal action, but to no avail.

PLEASE lets all write to them & Let them know that we know what is going on and we condemn the government and their functionaries for loosing the control over law and order in their state & one small city and for protecting an ILLEGAL SLAUGHTER HOUSE of CATTLE.

INDA0001

Dear Friends,

*** This is Urgent ***  *** This is Urgent ***

We need a contact in Simla, Himachal pradesh, India who lives there and can give us an account of what is happening to the dogs there.

A court order, recently passed by the High Court there has asked the corporation to get rid of the dogs of the Shimla city in Three weeks. The court has asked the corporation to be compassionate and ONLY RELOCATE dogs and no other method is to be adopted. BUt we all know what corporations do.

So we need an authentic source from Shimla who can appraise us of the REAL situation in Shimla. The necessary steps would have to be taken immediately.

That person’s identity will be kept undisclosed and his/her role would only be limited to providing us with authentic data.

So please make contact with your group and do let us know what the Shimla Corporation is doing to the Dogs in reality.
