Mass grave found with galgos in Spain.
25.02.2018
A horrible sight came last Saturday to the discoverers of 30 hunting dog carcasses – partially preserved, decayed or skeletonized – who were
in a hidden ditch in Taracón (Cuenca). The dogs are all hunting dogs, mostly galgos. The Seprona has confirmed after initial investigations that due to the state of decay, some of the carcasses have been in this mass grave for a long time, others only recently. Furthermore, the officials assume that some of the animals were certainly thrown alive into the pit, so that they suffer a slow and agonizing death, from the ditch there is no escape!
Many of the Galgos are chipped, they are confident that they can detect the animal tormentors.
The Civil Guard is looking for those responsible for this mass grave with 30 corpses of dogs.
Carolina Rey, the councilor and spokeswoman for the IU (Izqerda Unidad= left United), denounced the facts: “Some of the dogs were thrown alive to the pit, which is in an almost inaccessible place from which you cannot get out, so we think they were thrown out and have died of hunger and thirst. “
The identification of the owners of the animals will be easy since the dogs had a chip.
In addition, Carolina Rey has been able to recognize some animals as their owners went to the protector to deliver the dogs since they could not take charge, although it refused its reception due to lack of space.
The animals are mostly greyhounds, which suggests that their owners could have got rid of them because they were not good at hunting.
“It is a cruelty to throw an animal in this way when we have been served for years,” complains Carolina Rey. Yesterday we returned to the mass grave in Tarancón to take out the bodies of the galgos that, during years, have been thrown there, and to try to find evidence to persecute the perpetrators of this crime (Video).
The place, known as The Cut, has been used for more than 20 years to dump galgos no longer wanted by their owners. The volunteers recovered 25 bodies, but for safety reasons it was impossible to reach the deeper layers of the pit, where dozens of galgos were piled up.
At least two dogs that I photographed last time I was there, have disappeared. A clear indication that their owners, frightened by the repercussion of the news, have returned to remove the corpses of their dogs. This is interesting because the hunting society always claims that abandoned or killed dogs, are dogs that have been stolen, “as no galguero would treat their dog like that”.
But no thief would return for the bodies of the dead dogs, that makes no sense. All points to the galgueros.
How little is worth the life of hunting dogs in the Autonomous Region of Castilla-La Mancha, the news published on 13 February proves that the Government of Autonomy excludes hunting dogs from the Animal Welfare Act.
Every Spanish autonomy has its own animal welfare laws. Other regions might also come up with the idea of excluding hounds from animal welfare, just as bullfighting as a tradition of animal welfare is also excluded at EU level. 40 percent of dogs that are abused, abandoned or stolen in Spain are hunting dogs.
Hunting is a dirty business that, with European help, is moving millions of euros every year.
This covers many international organisations – and especially those which have a website for visitors to find out more about their campaigns.
All website links are given for each – so just click on the link and away you go !
We think several of them may be new to many of you; but hopefully this listing will show that there are animal welfare people the world over.
This listing has taken quite a lot of work to produce, and we know that it is far from complete – we have missed some groups for sure. So, if you know any and want them added, please mail their name and web links to us via the ‘Contact’ link.

We have some great news – even though it is associated with the places of death – slaughterhouses.
The UK government has now announced that it will be going ahead with plans to make CCTV mandatory for all slaughterhouses in England.
The announcement follows a public consultation process. There were opver 3,800 responses to the consultation from the general public; with just 5 opposing the proposals. Thus a staggering majority of more than 99% of those consulted were IN FAVOUR of mandatory CCTV in slaughterhouses.
The new law associated with this is hoped to come into force during Spring 2018. Slaughterhouses will be given 6 months to comply with the new requirements.
Efforts are now being increased in the rest of the UK. (For overseas visitors, the UK is literally a ‘United Kingdom’ which comprises of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each member of the UK has its own independent Parliament and makes legislation for its own nation. Ie. laws in Scotland do not automatically apply in England – independent parliaments decide what each nation will do).
In Scotland, there is a lot of work being taken to make CCTV compulsory here also – and a win soon is expected. Wales and N. Ireland are a bit further away from intoduction; but with England now making CCTV compulsory by law, it is hoped they will soon follow.
We abhor slaughterhouses and everything involved in animal slaughter. But we also accept that some people wish to continue eating meat, and all the time this is the case we have to accept it. We will continue to push for a veggie / vegan diet policy which removes the need for killing of animals for food.
Whilst the new English government plans will allow slaughterhouse vets (compulsory) to have unrestricted access to all CCTV footage; Animal Aid will be pushing for an independent body that could undertake spot checks.
Yet another example of something that the EU should be introducing as standard. They do not really seem to care. With Brexit the UK is taking back control of its own laws. This is yet another example of what Brexit allows for animals, and why the UK wants to be EU regulation (or no EU regulation) free.
While the first observance of a Women’s Day was held on February 28, 1909 in New York, March 8 was suggested by the 1910 International Woman’s Conference to become an “International Woman’s Day.” After women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917, March 8 became a national holiday there. The day was then predominantly celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries until it was adopted in 1975 by the United Nations.

Overdebt for food, medicine and kennels!
From the beginning of this year stray dogs in Bor are facing one of the hardest periods; Cruelly low temperatures of minus 20 degrees and lower, hungry, frozen, helpless and left to fend for themselves on the streets of the town where unfortunately most of the residents absolutely do not care about them … among that crowd of people who is considering stray dogs as the ‘ugly’ part of the city which they should get rid of, there are people like Joja.
Many people know the story about this man of enormous heart, his daily sacrifice and unselfish willpower to help every single injured stray at every moment. During this Siberian winter many dog houses for strays were taken, many of which have not yet been paid, large amounts of food from pet shop that was not paid, stray puppies have been vaccinated, which was left unpaid, a couple of stray females have been spayed, etc.. so much debts as usual, and it is necessary as soon as possible to settle them, so that we can continue our work ..
This fundraiser below caters for the shortfall for kennel, food fees and vet services, which we are not able to cover..
Every single person involved makes a big difference.
There are no happy endings without your help!
Please donate now to help – any amount helps no matter how small – Thank You.
