We have had the following (below) through this morning; and to be honest, we agree with much of it.  But the American people have voted in a democracy; now they face the future under Trump leadership.

We see nothing positive for US animal welfare about the last days events.  With wildlife killing sons, will Wolves and Coyotes be given better protection as they try to move South and breed in the West ? – no; no doubt there will be better legislation for hunters and wildlife killers – US wildlife has witnessed a very black day.

ag-gag-1

And knowing some of Trumps ‘advisors’; we will probably see a return to more or less nationwide ‘Ag Gag’ which will wipe over animal suffering in slaughterhouses etc and instead allow prosecution of those brave souls who go undercover to get the footage of abuse and animal suffering.

America; you have elected him; so now you sit and endure the political policies from a man who has no political experience; protecting gun owners and users; disregarding the environment and effectively only taking care of himself and his kind.  Of course, you are all billionaires with top rate healthcare and all that; so no worries !!.

In Europe’s view, a very sad day.

Dear Mark,

We have woken up this morning to the most shocking news. An extreme nationalist has won the US presidential election on a campaign filled with racism, misogyny and hatred.

This is a very frightening day, first and foremost to people of colour and other minorities living in the United States. We express our solidarity with them, and urge them to stay strong and united through this nightmare.

But we need to do more than mourn. This election result is the consequence of decades of ‘market knows best’ economics, through which ordinary people have been valued only for their ability to make the richest richer still, and everything we value has been turned into a commodity to be traded in the global marketplace.

Inequality has soared to unprecedented levels, communities have been hollowed out, their voices marginalised, the planet is being pillaged and burnt – all in the name of profit. And when, in 2008, this system was demonstrated to be utterly unsustainable by the collapse of the banks, the poorest were forced to pick up the tab, while the super rich went about their business as usual.

Trump provides no answer to these problems. He is himself a billionaire tax avoider who flaunts his ill-gotten wealth as a badge of honour. But he has successfully played on the unhappiness and frustration of millions of people in the most despicable way imaginable. He has fuelled a wave of hatred aimed at those already marginalised and discriminated against.

That’s why the markets and elites will try to come to terms with Trump. But we cannot. We will resist everything he stands for. But we can only do that by building something better. Only in a society in which everyone has their needs met and which is built on openness, on community and on equality, can we truly defeat these ideas.

On a day like today, we can all feel weak and powerless. But by coming together we can be powerful. We’ve seen this only recently in our campaign to beat TTIP, the biggest trade deal the world has ever seen, despite the concerted efforts of an army of corporate lobbyists. And we see it in countless examples across the world from landless struggles in Latin America to those against sweatshops in south Asia and agribusiness in Africa. We win small victories every day.

We believe the humanity inside us will win out – if we stay strong, stay safe and stay together.

Thank you for your support.

Making America Great Again ! – Like Yeah – How ?,

By Doing This ?

take-action-3

Target: Donald Trump, Sr.

Goal: Denounce the murdering of exotic animals as “trophies” by presidential candidate’s sons.

In a series of sickening photos, Donald Trump’s two sons pose next to the bodies of murdered elephants, big cats, and other exotic animals they shot and killed. Trump himself supports his sons’ participation in cruel trophy hunting, stating that “They love it.”

The “Trump Trophy Hunters” have taken photos posing with the dead bodies of several exotic animals, including an African elephant, a leopard, a crocodile and a buffalo. In the photo with the dead elephant, one of the sons held up the elephant’s bloody tail that he cut off as some sort of sick trophy.

The Trumps have so far gotten off completely free for their murderous treatment of endangered exotic animals. The fact that they not only kill these beautiful creatures, but then take horrifying photos with the dead bodies, is completely sick and twisted. There’s no way this can carry on. Demand the Trump family stop slaughtering rare and exotic animals.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Donald Trump,

Your sons, Donald, Jr. and Eric, have taken photos posing with the dead bodies of endangered exotic animals, including an African elephant, a leopard, a crocodile, and a buffalo, as if they should be proud of the awful murders they’ve committed. You yourself have defended their exotic animal hunting, saying “My sons love to hunt. They are hunters, Eric is a hunter and I would say he puts it on a par with golf, if not ahead of golf. My other son, Don, is a hunter. They’re great marksmen, great shots, they love it.”

“Trophy” hunting is a cruel and archaic practice, especially when it targets endangered species. We cannot have a presidential nominee who supports the slaughter of helpless animals. Please change your position on trophy hunting and urge your family to stop murdering animals now.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

USA: Wildlife Killing Contests: An update on our film project- an exposѐ.

usa

project-coyote-logo

Dear Mark,

It is my great pleasure to thank you for your generous support of our forthcoming documentary on wildlife killing contests, and to update you on the film’s status.

We are in the final stages of post-production and hope to finish the documentary by the end of the year. We will show the film in states with active campaigns that challenge the practice of wildlife killing contests.

And we’ve completed some additional hard-hitting interviews including one with Lucy McKay, a Native American from Northern California who offers compelling words about killing animals for fun and prizes. You can watch Lucy here

The film also benefits from the powerful narration of celebrated actor, poet and Project Coyote Advisory Board member, Peter Coyote. You can see Peter in this short video appeal.

We are especially grateful to the Animal Welfare Institute, the Animal Legal Defense Fund, the Fund for Wild Nature, and Patagonia for their strong support of this film. We expect the film will do much to help raise public awareness (and indignation) about the targeting of coyotes, bobcats, foxes, and other species in killing contests. This brutal practice is legal in every state across the U.S. except California, where, in 2014, Project Coyote and allies convinced the California Fish and Game Commission to close loopholes allowing such heinous contests

We will make the film available to every activist and wildlife advocate who wants to raise awareness of killing contests in their community and state. Ultimately, each one of us must stand up for wild predators by publicly denouncing this bloodthirsty “sport” and demanding its end. Project Coyote carries the voices of all of our supporters as we make forays into political and public arenas to do just that. If you can, please consider donating to help support Project Coyote’s campaign to bring an end to killing contests. You can do so safely and securely here.

Again, thank you so much for your support. We’ll provide further updates on the film as we finalize venues for distribution.

With gratitude,

Camilla

P.S. This issue is gaining national exposure, as demonstrated by this recent New York Times Op-Ed written by best-selling author Dan Flores, entitled “Stop Killing Coyotes.”

USA: Wolves Being Pursued By Hunting Dogs In Wisconsin.

usa

es-logo

Mark,

Despite being protected under the Endangered Species Act, wolves in Wisconsin are chased, harassed, and sometimes wounded or even killed by packs of hunting dogs that run the state’s landscape for more than six months of the year. Bear “hounders” face few regulations and little to no enforcement when turning packs of dogs loose to pursue native wildlife.

These hounds are most frequently released at bear “baiting” sites. These are areas where hunters have dumped hundreds of gallons of stale pastries, syrup, or other foods with the intent of habituating bears to feed there. At last count, there were more than 82,000 baiting sites in the state! Not only is this practice disastrous for bears, and destructive to public lands–imagine dumping hundreds of gallons of syrup and rotting pastries in your favorite park–but it puts Wisconsin’s wolves in frequent conflict with packs of hunting dogs.

Help us fight the entrenched political interests that further this dangerous and unsporting hunting practice.

With more than 82,000 bait stations covering Wisconsin’s wild spaces, it is difficult for wolf packs to establish rendezvous sites that do not intersect with these pastry dump sites. Wolves are territorial, protective animals–it’s how they have survived for centuries. This same defensive behavior leads them to defend their packs and their pups from these hoards of bear hunting dogs running the state half of the calendar year. In protecting their rendezvous sites, these wolves are often wounded or killed, and often kill or wound dogs from the hunter’s pack. Hunters in the state are disincentivized to change their ways by a state program that pays them up to $2,500 for dogs lost to wolves safeguarding their pups, packs, and rendezvous sites. This has led to wolves and hunting hounds being killed and wounded at an unprecedented and alarming rate.

This is no way to protect Wisconsin’s wolves or any of its wildlife.  Anyone who loves wolves, anyone who loves dogs, should want to see an end to these practices. We are working on the ground in Wisconsin to stop bear hounding and the virtually-unregulated dumping of bait across the state. We need your help. Please make a 100% tax-deductible donation today to help us fight to end bear baiting and hounding to protect the state’s wolves.

Thank you for your commitment to wildlife and wild places.

Sincerely,

USA: 47 Wolves Dead So Far In Idaho’s Hunting Season.

wolf

Hi Mark

47 dead wolves — 45 shot, 2 trapped.

That’s the body count so far in Idaho’s grisly wolf-hunting season. Already at least 10 wolf families have been shattered.

And the anti-wolf zealots are howling with glee. On Facebook groups like “Fired Up!” they’ve been sharing photos of the bloody carcasses of their victims — calling wolves “ecoterrorists” and egging each other on to “fuel the helicopter and get rid of the vermin pests.”

With an estimated 786 wolves left in the entire state, Idaho wolves are in danger of being wiped out by killers whose mantra is “shoot, shovel and shut up.”

The Center for Biological Diversity is in a running fight to end these killings. With your donation to the Predator Defense Fund, we’ll do everything possible to save Idaho’s wolves.

Just recently we ended a disgusting predator-killing contest on federal land in Idaho and forced its wolf-hating governor, Butch Otter, to call off a state-sanctioned bounty hunter out to kill wolf families in the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness. Now we’re suing to stop the government’s rogue animal-killing program, Wildlife Services, from gunning down and poisoning dozens more Idaho wolves.

These anti-wolf zealots also want to spread Idaho’s sick wolf-hunting regime across the country. The Center is now fighting a slew of sneaky congressional “riders” that would end federal protection of wolves in states like Minnesota and Wyoming. If we don’t stop them, wolf families from the Great Lakes to the Pacific will be hunted down and wiped out for the second time in a century. Wolf-haters don’t want a single wolf family left in the wild, and their partners in Congress have their backs.

But together we can fight and win for wolves. With your support the Center will keep working hard for these animals, from the courthouse to the statehouse to the halls of Congress. Give to the Predator Defense Fund and we’ll commit your gift to saving wolves in the wild.

We mourn the 47 wolves needlessly killed this season in Idaho. With you beside us we’ll work without cease to shut down brutal attacks on wolves everywhere.

For the wild,

USA: Popular Bipedal Bear ‘Pedals’ Killed by New Jersey Hunter.

UNST0001

Popular Bipedal Bear ‘Pedals’ Killed by New Jersey Hunter

Since the summer of 2014, people in an Oak Ridge, N.J., neighborhood were often visited by a gentle bear they named Pedals. The bear was missing his front right leg and had an injured left front paw, probably from being hit by a car. He adapted to these injuries by walking upright, like a real-life version of Yogi Bear.

Pedals would roam the neighborhood in search of food. “He does not have the capability of running from what he may consider a threat; he cannot climb trees as most black bears do,” according to a GoFundMe page launched in 2015 that raised almost $23,000 to place Pedals in a rehab center for injured wildlife. “He sticks to our neighborhoods because he cannot compete with the much larger bears in our area or navigate some of the tough mountain terrain.”

Pedals gained international fame after videos of him were posted to social media and broadcast by news outlets. At first some people thought it was a hoax, because Pedals really did look like a man walking around in a bear suit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcIkQaLJ9r8

More than 300,000 Care2 members signed a petition demanding that wildlife officials relocate Pedals to a sanctuary. Last November, the petition was hand-delivered to the New Jersey State House, where it made its way to Bob Martin, commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

Pedals was “like a little phenom,” Lisa Rose-Rublack, who started the petition, told NJ.com in June. “He’s causing so much commotion. But what people don’t realize is that the bear needs help. He’s not healthy. He can’t defend himself. What’s going to happen when he wanders into the wrong place?”

State Officials Denied Pedals a Safe Place to Live

The Orphaned Wildlife Center in New York, which is home to 14 adult bears, had agreed to take in Pedals and build him a new large enclosure that included a den. But first the nonprofit needed the approval of the DEP, which insisted Pedals was better off in his natural environment.

Because the DEP would not allow Pedals to be relocated to a sanctuary, Rose-Rublack’s worst fear came true this month.

Although Pedals was beloved by fans around the world, one local hunter wanted him dead. The hunter got his wish on Oct. 10, when he shot Pedals with a bow and arrow. When the hunter arrived at the Green Pond check station with Pedals’ body in the bed of his pickup truck, he bragged about the killing, according to the Pedals the Injured Bipedal Bear Facebook page. (The page has since been shut down due to people posting the names and addresses of hunters.)

Just as the DEP, which manages the bear hunt, denied Pedals a safe place to live, it now denies that it was Pedals who was killed. A terse statement issued by the department Oct. 13 dismissed “hearsay accounts recently posted on social media.” It said multiple bears with injured or missing limbs were killed during the current bear hunt period. “But without any prior scientific data taken from a bear, it is not possible to verify the identity of a bear that has been harvested,” the DEP stated.

An administrator of the Pedals the Injured Bipedal Bear Facebook page, however, has no doubt the popular bear was killed.

“We have verbal confirmation from hunters that were at the weigh/check-in station that he is dead,” the administrator told the Washington Post. “We believe our sources. There were only a handful of bears brought to that weigh station and only one with a missing paw. They examined him and told the group of hunters that it was the bipedal bear. The biologists also took many photos of him. Pedals has distinct markings as well as his front paw issues.”

Pedals Killed During Bowhunting Week

Although Pedals’ killing was vicious (not to mention cowardly), the hunter won’t face any animal cruelty charges. Six years ago, the DEP approved the return of legal black bear hunting to New Jersey to reduce the state’s growing population of these bears. This year’s bear hunting season was extended because of what state officials said was increased interaction between bears and people.

Pedals was killed during the week of New Jersey’s first bow hunt for black bears in 40 years, approved by pro-hunting Gov. Chris Christie. Bowhunters killed 368 bears last week; 64 other bears were killed with muzzle-loading guns.

As the director of the New Jersey Sierra Club said back in 2010, this is all about hunting — not about managing bears. Animal experts and conservation groups say a more effective and humane way to deal with the bears is by having residents take measures such as securing trash cans, keeping barbecue grills clean and installing electric fences around compost piles.

Please sign and share this petition asking New Jersey to end its black bear hunt, which isn’t keeping any residents safer.

“Pedals is at peace now, because his beautiful soul left his body when he was killed,” said an update last week on the Pedals the Injured Bipedal Bear Facebook page. R.I.P., Pedals. This video was taken about four months ago, when he was last seen alive.
