Planned attacks on saboteurs by Essex & Suffolk hunt supporters

On Saturday 16^th of March as part of a clearly planned attack saboteurs from the Essex and Suffolk group were attacked. Using sticks tipped with metal supporters of the hunt assaulted and beat the saboteurs aiming in particular for the person carrying the video camera, smashing it beyond use. Saboteurs were also kicked and punched in the head in the sustained attacked.

Following this incident the hunt chased a fox to earth into a badger sett and proceeded to dig into the sett in breach of both the Protection of badgers act 1993 and the Hunting act 2004. Saboteurs on the scene were again attacked with spades and multiple assaults were committed, resulting in many injuries such as pictured. Essex police responded to a 999 call with four vehicles and a helicopter and acted on the clearly visible injuries by arresting a saboteur for breach of the peace, although no charges were pressed. On request for action to their assaults they were told by police in attendance to report them to a police station later.

Lee Moon of the hunt Saboteurs Association stated:

“Faced with a clear breach of animal welfare law and numerous assaults to hunt saboteurs, Essex police responded by blaming the victims and ignoring the crimes against wildlife. They seem to be acting in the time honoured stance of turning a blind eye to hunt violence and animal cruelty. It’s about time Essex police started realising that times have changed and the public expects these criminal acts to be treated the same as if they were in the high street on Saturday.”

Above – UK Prime Minister David Cameron MP – PRO HUNT Supporter and person who prior to election vowed to have a vote in parliament to overturn the anti hunt legislation which is now giving more protection to UK wildlife.

Tories still working for repeal

Tory MPs are “actively working” behind the scenes at Westminster to drum up support for a repeal of the hunting ban before May 2015, a senior Minister has revealed. Environment Secretary Owen Paterson told the Yorkshire Post he is “absolutely clear” that there will be a free vote on repealing the controversial ban before the next general election – but that, as things stand, the pro-hunt lobby does not have enough support to win. The Coalition Agreement signed by the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats in May 2010 committed the newly-formed Government to holding a free vote on the hunting ban at some stage during the 5-year Parliament. But almost 3 years later, the issue has barely surfaced at Westminster. In an exclusive interview with the Yorkshire Post, Mr Paterson, a Tory right-winger and passionate advocate of fox hunting, said,

there is “more work to be done” to convince backbench MPs to vote for a repeal. “We’ve got a pretty busy programme with a lot of other issues,” he said. “But I’m absolutely clear it’s the right thing to do to have a free vote at the appropriate moment.” The problem for the pro-hunt lobby is that while many Tories want the ban repealed, the party also has a smaller number of mainly urban-based backbenchers who insist it should remain in place. With many – though not all – Labour and Liberal Democrat MPs opposed to repealing the 2005 legislation, the pro-hunters face an uphill struggle to win a free vote in the Commons. Mr Paterson, who was handed the environment brief in last year’s Cabinet reshuffle, said a group of backbench Tories have been tasked with drumming up support over the coming months.

100,000 + galgos abandoned at the end of hunting every year – work it out for yourself!…….

People say the figure of 50,000 galgos abandoned every year is exaggerated – usually i…t’s the hunters who say so, of course, as they don’t want the bad press.

Vera of Galgos en Familia, Malaga province in southern Andalucia says, ‘Co-inciding with the end of the hunting season at this time of year, more than 5.000 galgos are abandoned by hunters in our province.
It is estimated that 1,500 galgos are collected each year from the streets of Malaga province and the majority of these from the valley of Antequera, where they are used as tools to capture hares, a hunting activity that is banned in other european countries but is still very much allowed here in Spain.

The galgos, classed as useless and not worthy by the hunters are punished beaten and abused for not doing what is expected of them before being left to their fate on streets, motorways and countryside of Malaga.’ Vera saves many galgos and podencos from Malaga perrera, El Paraiso.

So, 5,000 just from one province in the region of Andalucia. This link, lists the 50 provinces in Spain, including the Canary Islands. Most of the names you will recognise as suffering from abandonment of galgos and podencos. So, even reducing the number down to, say 30 – that still qives a figure of 150,000 abandoned at the end of hunting every year!

Germany: Boars Shot By Hunters Are Highly Radioactively Contaminated – How Many Have Been Shot By Hunts During the Last 5 Years and Presented to a ‘Certified Measuring Body’ Before Going Into the Human Food Chain ?

For explanation: the here used term “Swabia” refers to Baden-Wuerttemberg, with Stuttgart as its capital.

It is interesting to note that there is no mention of other “game”, which is also shot in high numbers in Germany and consumed (except for foxes, where the fur is used) – sold via local shops and in local restaurants. Deer also dig for food at this time of year. The following pics have been taken in the local forest (Southern Germany).

Entire group of wild boar radioactively contaminated

Even 27 years after the reactor catastrophe at Tschernobyl the effects are measurable. After a boar hunt near Augsburg all shot animals had to be disposed of: the sows very heavily contaminated.

Wild boars in the forest. By foraging for food they plough through the ground. There, especially in mushrooms, a lot of radioactivity is still concentrated.

37 radioactive Swabian wild boar make the Greens feel uneasy. The animals had recently been shot during a “Saujagd” (boar hunt) near the city of Augsburg. All 37 were afterwards disposed of due to a too high exposure dose, said Christine Kamm, with the Augsburg Green party.

The readings came up with Caesium-137 values of 10,000 becquerel per kilogram. From 600 becquerel onwards game is declared unfit for consumption, said a representative of the Augsburg regional environmental authority.

The reactor catastrophe at Tschernobyl in 1986 is still considered the main source for Caesium pollution. The radioactive metered values for the recently shot 37 sows are even higher than those of previous measurements, said Kamm. “The values rise, although the radioactive half-life of Caesium is 30 years”:

The Greens intend to submit an inquiry to the state parliament in order to find out if Swabian sows are a special case and how many radioactively contaminated animals have been shot in the last 5 years. Boars shot during hunts must be presented to a certified measuring body – unless the hunter intends to consume the meat himself.

Radioactivity in the Ground

The high level of contamination of these 37 Swabian boars may also have seasonal reasons. Caesium-37 is measured for the most part in the surface soil of the forest, said a representative of the environmental authority. In years with a good food supply the boars ate mostly acorns and beech nuts. In bad years the boars took to ploughing through the ground looking for mushrooms. “This can lead to fluctuation between years”.

The state authority conducts radioactivity measurements of its own within the framework of the precautionary radiation protection legislation (Strahlenschutzvorsorgegesetz). From 1^st of March 2012 to 1^st of March 2013 only 12 of 136 examined sows tested positive for elevated radiation. One of the animals came from Swabia, the other 11 from Bavaria.

Serbia: News From Felix Shelter – March 2013. Situation Is Desperate – Celebrity Help Needed To Support Costs.

We have helped Danica and Felix to get some additional funding support for emergency work to be undertaken on the shelter. This is obviously far from enough.

There must be some people somewhere in our supporter global network who know others who can help out here with a bigger set of donations; be they celebrities, tv and media persons (Oprah ?), sports personalities or even very rich ‘animal welfare’ organisations.

As you can see from the photos above and below, the situation has reached crisis point. One cheque from just one celebrity would probably cover all the costs needed to get Felix shelter sorted and running properly again.

Is anyone reading this prepared to make contact with celebrities and others to try and get Felix shelter some help ?

Or are we going to see the place fall down, despite all our efforts, and all the cats made homeless once again ?

Serious problems with a damaged shelter

We’ve been repairing the shelter since last spring, but in spite of our best efforts the repairs are far from being finished. Instead of replacing the entire roof of the main building (which would have been a very costly, but only permanent solution), we managed to install additional supports and strengthen the roof as much as we could. Had this winter been as snowy as the last one, the roof would’ve surely collapsed under the snow load. It must be replaced this year at any cost, as it can’t possibly endure another winter. Moreover, we didn’t even touch the roof of the auxiliary rooms in the backyard. The entire structure is worn out and some of the roof rafters and beams are cracked and half-rotten. The old roof tiles, partially covered in moss, are moving and sagging and with the melting snow and heavy rains, water has started making it’s way in. What would have happened had the precipitation been more abundant, I dare not imagine.

As to the auxiliary rooms themselves, they have originally been made of bricks and rammed earth. If we want to fix them permanently, special nets should be adhered to the inner walls and Bavalit applied afterwards. Bavalit is a kind of mortar, a mixture of hydraulic binders, mineral aggregates and additives. Then the new insulation layer can be added to the ceiling and we would have a nice and safe indoor enclosure. The only cat room in the front yard is in the worst shape, with a huge bump in the ceiling caused by moisture, and a number of cracks in the walls. If enough of the ceiling gets wet, it will become too heavy to support itself and will collapse on my unsuspecting cats! We have to fix it ASAP!

The outdoor enclosure is another matter. The perimeter of the whole yard and the roof should be enclosed with some fencing with a stronger, but finer mesh. The existing fence is too weak and is actually chain-link fencing with links that are too large to prevent little kittens and skinnier adults from escaping through the wire. Although there wasn’t as much snow this winter, the wire mesh dangerously sagged at one point, as it was already droopy after it barely help up through the last year’s winter. Another heavy snow load would have knocked it down. We’ve been lucky so far, but who can guarantee we will be equally lucky next winter? I won’t even mention that paved paths through the yard should also be made…

Another big problem is the outdoor fence. The posts had already started to deteriorate and crumble. They became wobbly last year, and this year’s snow and ice further degraded them and caused extensive additional damage. Not only that, the gates can’t close properly. These rotten posts will fall apart and cause the whole fence to fall down any day now. It’s not an exaggeration, it’s an inevitable reality and a dire emergency!

Please, help us! We’re overwhelmed and doing everything we can, but we just can’t do it without your help! The need is great, but no amount is too small. Thank you in advance for anything you may be able to provide!

Article 269. of Criminal code of Serbia ,Official gasette number 121/2012 : has 3 paragraphs:

1) paragraph: to human/humans who cruel or kill 1 animal in opposite to rule of law: up to 1 year prison or money punishment;

2) paragraph: to human who cruel more then 1 animal, or even only 1 but if that one is of high protection/protected species: this paragraph 2) of Article 269. demands: up to 3 years prison or money-punishment;

3) paragraph of Article 269. who organises or watchches or act animal fighting between animals of one or of different species: would be punish by up to 3 years prison.

Poslednji slucaj zlostavljanja zivotinja dogodio se 22. februara 2013 godine. Dva psa su brutalno ubijena u Barajevu, a iza njih je ostalo osam stenaca na ulici.

Jedno od najbrutalnijih ubistava dogodilo se u novembru 2012 godine na pijaci u Zemunu, kada je Vujica K. lopatom ubio cetiri steneta. Tada se niko se nije usudio da mu pridje. Policija ga je privela i posle saslusanja pustila da se brani sa slobode.

Svi gore navedeni primeri upucuju na to da je nasilje nad zivotinjama u velikom porastu u Srbiji. Nazalost, nema odgovarajucih kazni za pocinioce ovih monstuoznih dela!

26. februara 2013. Osnovni sud u Čačku osudio je Borivoja Obradovića, za ubistvo dva psa sekirom (od kojih je jadna bila skotna kuja) na novcanu kaznu od 60.000 dinara. Samo sudski troškovi koje Obradovic treba da plati su veci i iznose 61.390 dinara. Za ovaj zlocin, prema Zakonu, mogao je da bude osudjen na godinu dana!

Ako pojedinci koji su pocinili ovako okrutne zlocine prodju nekaznjeno, ili sa neadekvatnom kaznom, jasno je da u buducnosti mogu da izvrse nasinje i zlocine nad ljudima.

Prema Clanu 269 Krivicnog zakonika, zlostavljanje i ubijanje životinja je krivično delo. Nadlezni organi Srbije moraju postovati Zakon i poslati jasnu poruku da se nasilje nad zivotinjama ne tolerise, i da ce pocinioci ovih dela snositi ozbiljne zakonske posledice.

U Evropskoj uniji se zivotinje smatraju svesnim, osecajnim bicima i tretiraju se sa postovanjem. Evropa zbog etickih i kulturnih razloga, kao i zbog ekonomskih i zdravstvenih, ima veoma visoke standarde kada je rec o dobrobiti zivotinja. AKO SRBIJA ZELI DA ZASLUZI STATUS KANDIDATA ZA EU, ONA MORA DA SE SUPROTSTAVI ZLOSTAVLJANJU ZIVOTINJA I POCNE DA IZRICE OSTRE KAZNE ZA OVE ZLOCINE.

The last atrocity against animals happened 22 February 2013. Two dogs were brutally murdered in the Belgrade municipality of Barajevo. Eight puppies left on the street without mothers.

One of the most severe cases of animal cruelty took place in November 2012 at the market in Zemun, where Vujica K. with a shovel killed four puppies. No one dared to approach him. Police detained Vujica K. but after a hearing, he was released to defend himself from freedom.

Sad examples above show that there is increasing violence across Serbia. Unfortunately, there are no real consequences for people who committed these monstrous crimes!

26th February 2013 – the Court in the Serbian town of Cacak sentenced Borivoja Obradovic for killing two dogs with an axe (one of them was pregnant) to the fine of 60,000 dinars. Fines that Obradovic must pay to the court are of 61.390. For this crime, by the Serbian Law, possible imprisonment is up to one year!

To allow individuals guilty of perpetrating such cruel acts to go unpunished, or not be sufficiently punished, would permit them to go on to commit serious and violent crimes against humans.

SPECIFICALLY BY ARTICLE 269 OF THE SERBIAN CRIMINAL LAW, ABUSE AND KILLING OF ANIMALS IS A CRIME!

Serbians authorities must act by the Law and send a clear message that such brutal crimes will not be tolerated, and there are serious consequences for people who commit them.

The EU recognizes animals as sentient beings and treats them with respect. There are ethical and cultural reasons, without for one moment forgetting the economic and public health reasons, for maintaining a very high standard of animal welfare!

IF SERBIA WANTS TO GET THE CANDIDATE STATUS RECOMMENDATION FOR THE EU, MUST STOP THE ACCEPTANCE OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS AND ENFORCE A POLICY OF HARSH PUNISHMENT FOR THESE CRIMES.

Please protect the citizens and animals of Serbia by giving these animal killers serious jail time.

Germany: 26/02/13 – The Results of German Hunters ‘Enjoyment’ Now Confined to the Waste Bin.

26^th February 2013 –

Today’s (Germany) ‘waste’ bin crop – a result of the German hunters having their ‘enjoyment’ and killing just for the sake of killing – and probably just to prove to themselves what ‘men’ they are !.

The bin was too full of dead animals and too heavy to get to the bottom.

This is about a small dog called Lily and her brother. Two small stray dogs just trying to survive in the cruel region of Cluj Romania. Here as with the majority of Romania, dogs are seen as vermin to treat as you want, to do what you want, abuse maim and torture as you want. Abusers of the animals know full well that regardless that there are laws in place to protect domestic and stray animals, they can do whatever they want.

Because the corruption and greed of the regional government and national government will protect them.

They know that Cluj’s own mayor Emil Boc and his police department care not for the law nor the animals that are meant to be protected by these same laws. After all, dog killing is a profitable business in Romania and every human along the way makes a nice tidy profit from the brutality and inevitable painful death of each of its victims.

So what does it matter to Emil Boc and his merry men if two small dogs have been brutally beaten? Lilys brother having died from his injuries, both of them have had one of their eyes gauged out with sticks and defenceless small Lily was held down and forcibly impregnated with diesel?

Clues to Lily and her brother’s abusers lay everywhere, the pole that was used to beat and impregnate Lily, the sticks used to brutality beat both dogs time and time again, over and over. There is no doubt fingerprints will be found on these weapons, the scene itself will without doubt have traces of the abusers DNA.

The fact is the Mayor and his police department they can not be bothered with what they would deem a waste of resources and time. Some people out there may think the same, one vile incident, sometimes these things happen. You would be mistaken, you see in Cluj, as with all regions of Romania this type of crime happens to the strays every single day and time and time again Emil Boc as do all the other city hall officials and police departments in Romania choose to ignore it.

We refuse to let Lily’s torturers and abusers be let off so lightly. We refuse to allow her brother’s horrific death to be in vain. There lives were NOT worthless, and they deserve justice.

The evidence is there to catch the abusers if the police department so wished, and even if they did not wish to pursue this case the mayor has it within his powers to order them to investigate and bring the abusers to justice.

Join with us today to demand The police department of Cluj and the mayor and city hall, once and for all actually stand by Romanian law and do all they can to investigate, catch and charge the abusers. For once, not to make mockery of the Romanian legal system, for once……To give worth to the lives of two small dogs and for one who is still battling for her life.
