As you can see from the photos; things have definitely got colder now.

The shelter is down to its last week of gas to keep the cats warm.

We very recently did a post to ask for people to try and give so that a new tank of gas can be purchased – here is the link:

Please give anything that you can – things are now colder and the cats need to be kept warm; especially as some of them are old and frail.

Thank you.

The Story from the shelter:

It looks like real winter has begun. After a short period of weird, sunny, spring-like weather, totally atypical for this time of year, the icy cold started to tighten its grip and the outdoor temperatures plummeted far below zero a couple of days ago. We haven’t had any snow yet and no paw prints are visible across the hard and mostly bare ground that’s covered in a layer of frost, but it’s freezing nonetheless. Central heating has been working day and night over the last couple of months to keep the kitties warm as we fortunately still had some heating fuel left from last year’s purchase, but our gas tank is emptying rapidly and right now we have just enough gas for 10 more days. If we fail to raise the funds for a new tank of gas in a flash, we’ll have no choice except to switch to the electric heaters which can’t warm up the house and all of the cats’ rooms sufficiently, not to mention that the electricity bills will be skyrocketing. The costs of cat food and vet care alone are enormous all year round and when you add the cost of heating fuel during the cold season, it’s a complete disaster.

Winter is always hard for a cat sanctuary with a three-digit number of fragile and delicate little furry creatures, many of which are well beyond their golden years and without proper heating

We woke up to a deep freeze on Monday…

What is this wet cold white stuff?

Some cats are having fun in the snow 🙂

Some cats find joy in everything they choose to do…

And we have just enough heating fuel for one more week 😦

Animal Aid Unlimited is a life-changing place for both people and animals in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India.

Founded in 2002, our mission is to rescue and treat the un-owned street animals of Udaipur who have become ill or injured, and through their rescue inspire a community to protect and defend the lives of all animals.

Our work focuses on the vital moment when a resident of Udaipur sees an animal who needs help, and stops to help. Taking action is the pivotal experience that can change everything for good.

By providing a phone number someone can call and a shelter who will help and save, we are inspiring action in the community. Action that though small at first, maybe just a phone call on our helpline, is the first step for someone on the road of becoming the person that animals desperately need.

Our ultimate goal is equality and protection of all animals and a complete end to the use and abuse of animals. We are working for the day that every dog, donkey, cow, pig, fish and mouse can live their lives in freedom.

Based out of Udaipur, Rajasthan, India, our emergency rescue team responds to calls on our help-line reporting sick or wounded animals in need of help throughout the day, every day. Animal Aid is the life-line for thousands of animals who otherwise wouldn’t stand a chance.

With the involvement of thousands of Udaipur residents who have become aware of street animal’s needs, we have rescued more than 45,000 injured or ill dogs, cows, donkeys, birds and cats to date.

4

We know we should have asked for help earlier as this is the worst possible time for fundraising and we totally understand that most people have wiped out their savings and are struggling to get their finances back on track after the holidays, but we’re dealing with a true emergency and we hope you’ll be able to lend us a helping hand yet again.

Whatever amount you are able to give will be received with heartfelt gratitude, because every donation is literally saving lives!

5

We are doing everything we can and then some to stay afloat and give each of the Felix kitties a fighting chance to see another spring, but we will be lost if you don’t step in!

Please note the petition on the first link is no longer running.

We have got the gas to keep the kitties warm in the past years – lets go for it again now. Please give anything you can, no matter how small; it all adds up.

Please see the gas arriving in past years in some of the photos in the following links – so lets repeat this for the new year.

Serbia: Shelter In Need Of Support – Can You Help This New Year ?

https://www.youcaring.com/for-our-animals-449539#

Our little sanctuary of animal love needs your help! After many years of witnessing cruelty to animals in Serbia we decided to move to a small village in an old house – where everyone is welcome.

Having a mild heart condition I needed peace – peace with my animals. We lived within our means and everyone was happy. As times passes by, our furry family expanded – many mornings we would wake up and another injured or old dog was left on our door step, then a cage with hamsters, then we got a call if we can take some degui squirrels and chinchillas – we couldn’t say no.

Now our “animal kingdom” consists of: 10 dogs, 5 chinchillas, 2 hamsters, 2 hens, 2 ducks and 5 chicken (that shall be laying eggs when they reach adulthood). – most of them are available for adoption to good homes (except chicken and ducks – I don’t want them to finish in someone’s plate) – lots of animals to feed and we try our very best – but still short of 300E/month (about 400$).

We appreciate any help, including old towels and sheets, fleas/tick treatments but most importantly we need to by food for them.

Any donation is appreciated. You are also very much welcome to visit us – anytime, our doors are always open.

THANK YOU!!

Thailand: Latest Great News From John At SOI Dogs.

soi dogs 2

soi dogs 4SOI August logo

Dear Mark,

Thanks to YOU, thousands of dogs and cats have received lifesaving care in 2015. You have saved the lives of many and given them a second chance at the life they deserve.

2015 was a big year, and 2016 is shaping up to be even bigger.

SOI december

The new dog hospital at the Soi Dog shelter is near completion and will be operational in 2016. This means more dogs than ever will be able to receive treatment and with improved facilities, will have an improved chance of making a full recovery.

Soi Dog will be ramping up its sterilisation/vaccination programs in Bangkok, which from the results of our survey is home to approximately 640,000 stray dogs. The first mobile team has been formed and after successful training in Kanchanaburi will commence operations in the area of Samut Prakhan, which incorporates Bangkok International airport in January. This area is seen as high priority as rabies is known to exist there. Depending on support additional teams will be employed with the goal of achieving 100,000 sterilisations per year.

Thanks to you great strides have been made to end the barbaric dog meat trade. The focus of this work is now increasing in Vietnam, one of the major areas where dog meat is eaten. Soi Dog will continue to work tirelessly towards ending the barbaric dog meat trade both in Thailand and in Vietnam, but this can only be achieved with your support!

Only you can ensure that more dogs and cats are saved in 2016. This is your last chance to make a donation in 2015. To make a donation before December 31st, please click here.

The stray dogs and cats of Thailand can only hope for a happy future with your support. Will you donate today to give them the second chance they so desperately need? Your support will save so many lives!

Best wishes,

John Dalley
Co-Founder
Soi Dog Foundation
