Serbia: Felix Shelter News 1/2/15 – When It Rains, It Pours. But Eventually The Sun Will Shine !

FELIX

SAV Comment – As Danica says below, ‘when it rains it pours’.  She (Felix shelter) have lost so many beautiful cats over the last few weeks, you have to ask when they are all going to get a decent break that works for them rather than what seems (at the moment) to always be working against them.

Danica and Jasna work so utterly hard to give the very best for all their shelter cats – they do not deserve all the problems that appear to be queuing up for them at present.  But saying this; we know that every cat which has passed over the bridge can look back and thank shelter Felix for providing them with a safe warm haven home; with lots of good food; and most importantly with the medical attention and love that they very much needed.  Danica must be proud of what she is doing; although at sad times like this the world does often appear to be against you.

It is not, and we support Danica 110%.  We hope you do to; and will send her messages of support with her excellent work for all our little feline buddies.  One day, and we don’t know when; the government and authorities will realise that animals are sentient beings just like us; and those animals will, through them and their better understanding,be given care, compassion and the respect that they deserve; just as those lucky ones at shelter Felix are getting every day now.

When it rains it pours but in the end; the sun always appears to bring brightness and better feelings to an overcast situation.  This will happen very soon at Felix shelter.  Danica has put so much effort into the facility, that there is only one way that it can go now – UP  !!

We will do what we can to make this happen sooner rather than later.

When it rains, it pours…

Our gorgeous and sweet black panther Njanja who’s been struggling with serious health issues for more than a year, finally gave up the fight.

He had pancreatic insufficiency, FLUTD and who knows what else 😦 He’d be frighteningly skinny, then he was gaining weight, skinny again, then gaining weight again for such a long time. In December last year he became lethargic, his appetite was poor, he looked worn out and tired of everything and it seemed he knew his time was coming.

He died peacefully and without pain a couple of days ago, he just fell asleep and didn’t wake up again.

In this time of deep sadness and total heartbreak, not even knowing that Njanja was loved dearly and cared for until the end isn’t much of a consolation.

Wonderful Rose who has sponsored him for almost a year and a half has already been informed of his passing, as she loved him deeply and we felt she should be the first to know that he’s gone.

Our sparkling sweet boy is now running in some greener fields, but I’m sure we’ll meet again one day.

England: Hillside Rescued Animal At Winter Wonderland.

England

There have been a lot of very depressing videos and news here recently; some things like little Tak passing away cannot be resolved as much as it is wanted; other things could be greatly resolved if some of the politicians who are able to make the change in Serbia came out from hiding behind their desks and acted to stop cruelty !

So we are giving a link to a much better video here – it is one we have shown before, but it is always great to see the excellent work of the Hillside crew up in Norfolk, here in England; feeding and taking care of the hundreds of rescued farm animals which they have at the sanctuary.

And it is the right time of year to see this, with snow on the ground in many parts of the UK.

Enjoy watching the recued animals having fun in the snow !

All funded as a charity by donations from great folk who like to see animals being cared for.

Serbia: News From Felix Shelter 23/1 – Little Tak Has Passed Away.

Tak passing

From Danica;

It’s with utmost sorrow and profound grief that we sadly announce the passing of our gorgeous little boy Tak.

Although we knew he didn’t stand a chance against the deadliest cat virus there is, a tiny glimmer of hope persisted almost until the end. Even if only one in a million is strong and lucky enough to win this losing battle, maybe he could’ve been that one? Sadly, FIP has claimed yet another angel…

Not so long ago, Tak was a joyous and sparkling kitty boy, full of life and loved to bits. But once the first symptoms of the most feared cat disease showed up, the decline was rapid and all of his youthful vigor disappeared at a frightening rate.

Only the sparkle in his big, bright eyes remained the same until the end.

Fly free now, my little sweetie. You’ll purr forever in our hearts.

Serbia: 18/1/15 – Further News From Felix Shelter.

tak 18 jan

Utterly sad and totally heartbreaking, but we should’ve seen it coming 😦

Our wonderful, sparkling, loving boy Tak, the only survivor out of the three kittens that arrived from a construction site in Belgrade in September has FIP. It’s a fatal and incurable viral disease which has already killed his sister Tok, and now thinking of it, it’s highly probable that the non-effusive (dry) form of FIP claimed the life of his brother Tik.

It seems all of them were doomed from the start…
We don’t really know if these three cuties were blood related, as we’ve received confusing and contradictory information about them for months, but at least one of them, if not all, were probably born to a mother who was a carrier of coronavirus.

It’s impossible to say if Tak, Tik and Tok got infected from her or from each other and if genetic or husbandry factors were involved. But the sad reality is that all of them got sick with a horrible disease with a virtual 100% mortality rate for which not only that there is no diagnostic test, but also no effective treatment.

FIP is still mysterious and the only thing that’s known for sure is that it usually starts in little kittens and strikes suddenly, weeks, months or years after the initial infection.

Just a week ago, Tak seemed to be a happy, cheerful, energetic kitty boy with no problems in the world. Without warning he began to slow down, became lethargic and his belly looked slightly swollen, but none of us wanted to see what the vet confirmed – that he too has FIP. He’s been under treatment ever since, he’s being given IV fluids, antibiotics and is being force fed as we’re hoping to make him as comfortable as possible and trying to achieve at least temporary palliation of the clinical signs.

Things couldn’t look darker at the moment and the prognosis couldn’t be worse, but maybe a miracle will happen tomorrow…
