Serbia: Please Help Jelena Get Serbian Shelter Dogs to New Homes in Austria

‘Sirkan’ Waiting for financial support to get him to his new home.

Everything is now basically ready – Jelena just needs financial help – SAV.

Jelena says:

Hi,

As you probably know, we have been sending dogs to Austria to their new
homes that Animal Care Austria is finding.

For one dog to be sent it costs 100 euros for papers / blood test on rabies
and certificate and 50 euros for transport.

We have found someone who wants to take dogs with a van, so every second
Wednesday we can send dogs if we had money to pay the necessary expenses.

Please give anything you possibly can to help us send dogs to loving homes in Austria.

‘Sirkan’ is one such dog, who can be seen on the photograph.

Thank You

Yours sincerely

Jelena

Serbia: Jelana’s Shelter – Can You Help Find Homes for these Little Dogs

Can anyone help Jelena with finding homes for the little dogs pictured below:-

This puppy and his brother were found in the street this morning
They are both so adorable;
Would someone like to adopt him?

Also, 3 dogs, Mini, Ophelia and Pepi left to go to Austria yesterday – Animal Care Austria has already found homes for them

We can send more dogs but we need funds for essential blood tests which are required by the EU and cost 5500 dinars.

Laki and Poli are going to be next to go.

Isn’t he just beautiful!

I wish he can find a good home somewhere abroad.

VERY URGENT APPEAL FROM JELENA’S SHELTER (SERBIA)

This is an URGENT appeal please to help Jelena’s shelter.

You can view the work of Jelena’s shelter at the following liknks:

The bakery which supplies bread to the shelter every day to help feed the animals has cut off its supply until bills are paid –  over 250 loaves of bread have to be purchased daily to be mixed with other food which is being provided as a regular diet to the dogs at the shelter, and so the bread is a vital part of the dogs / shelters daily requirements.

If you are able to help by giving a donation, or can put this mail out to anyone you know who may be able to help, then please can you do it.

Full Bank details for donations are provided in the first of the two links above – please scroll down towards the end of the article.

Please help in any way you can – no matter how small.

Thank You.

Belgrade, Serbia: Please Look at the “Help Animals” Web Site

Please look at the following “Help Animals” web sites and see if there is any way that you can help.

First, I would like to thank you for visiting the Society for the Welfare of Homeless Animals “Help Animals” site!

We’d like to invite you to help us solve animal issues in our country, and most of all the problem of abandoned animals. Our first and foremost activity is taking care of dogs and cats at the only registered no kill shelter in Belgrade.  The shelter, which is 8 years old, is named ‘Riska’ and is located in the Belgrade suburb of Kotež. At the moment (09/08), Riska has 250 dogs and 103 cats in residence. There are currently only four caretakers at the shelter, so each person takes care of about 90 animals.

We’re asking all kind people, animal lovers, institutions and companies to helps us as much as they can in a manner they think is the most appropriate. Any help is appreciated and needed in order for the shelter to continue to exist and provide a safe haven for these wonderful animals!

If you truly love animals, we’re begging you to help them!

Please take a look at the pictures. They are not just pictures but also animals with names and a future that depends on you!

The problem of abandoned animals is an important societal issue. It affects the ones that love the animals and the ones that feel threatened by them. In order to address the problem humanely, in addition to spaying or neutering, it’s necessary to have shelters in which the animals will get proper care. In contrast to the city pound, animals in private shelters that don’t get adopted can stay there for the rest of their lives. That also means that private no-kill shelters have a major capacity problem since they only have so many available kennels.

If you recognize the importance of private animal shelters as a humane solution for homeless dogs and cats, and if you love animals, don’t hesitate to do something for them. They are near you and they need your help.

The shelter “Riska” exists thanks to continuous donations, but they sadly cover only one third of the expenses.

From the opening day many animals have been adopted, many have died and many come to us from the streets and the city pound.

The animals from “Riska” are counting on you.

How can you help the animals?

We’re in need of following things: used clothing, rain and snow jackets, rubber boots, old towels, bed linens, rags, dishes, silverware, glasses, household appliances, furniture, mattresses, bed covers, old newspapers, laundry detergent, dishwashing detergent, toilet paper, soap, garden hoses, work gloves, cleaning supplies, food for dogs and cats, large pots (over 10 kg in capacity), etc.

Commercial sponsorship: We’re calling on all companies, especially the ones in animal related business, to join us and help us through donating money, materials and equipment. In exchange, we’re offering free advertising on our web site and on flyers we’re distributing to our members and throughout the city. Your help doesn’t have to be monetary.  You can donate other useful things such as: food, vaccines, medications, office supplies, construction material for kennels (concrete, bricks, wire fences, posts, etc.), water hoses, fuel, services (paving of kennels, construction etc.), and anything else you’re able to donate.

For those who don’t like homeless dogs and cats

Please help us because we’re working on placing the animals you’re afraid of in homes and shelters so you’re also helping yourself.

We’re helping solve the problem of abandoned animals humanely and long term through sterilization, and not through cruel killings and burnings!

PLEASE GIVE SUPPORT TO JELENA’S SHELTER NOW – Thank You

Jelena and Sebastijan

We are asking please if you can immediately give your financial support to Jelena who runs a No Kill shelter in Serbia.

Jelena’s shelter now has over 400 dogs in its care.  Last week, ten dogs were taken away from the local pound back to the shelter, whilst several others were rescued from the streets.  As many female (Bitch) dogs were taken as possible, because when the bitches are un-sterilised and when ‘in heat’, they naturally attract the attention of many male dogs; the results of these meetings being many, many more dogs being born onto the streets destined for capture, suffering in pounds and eventual killing by the local authorities and government policies.

Some of the dogs taken last week from the Pound, now safe at Jelena’s shelter.

Many of the dogs which end up at the pound are not complete ‘strays’, but are dogs which are owned, but who have irresponsible owners who do not bother to have their animals sterilised, who simply do not care about what their animals do and simply turn them out onto the street every day to produce more animals which add to the population problem.

If their dogs are captured by the authorities and taken to the pound, then quite often the owners will not bother to go to the pound to recover their animals.  These animals regularly end up being killed as a result of the current no sense policies which the government and authorities have towards animal population controls.

By rescuing some animals from the pounds, Jelena’s shelter provides a safe haven and a place of regular food and loving for the very lucky animals that are fortunate enough to go there.  The shelter is a PLACE OF LIFE as opposed to the authorities pounds – places of death !!

But the shelter cannot exist on good will alone;

FINANCE IS REQUESTED FROM YOU please to provide daily help to the animals in the way of food, a sterilisation programme and the construction of additional enclosures for the rescued animals.  For example, over 250 loaves of bread have to be purchased daily to be mixed with other food which is being provided as a regular diet to the dogs at the shelter.

PLEASE, PLEASE give a donation or regular support to Jelena’s shelter NOW.

The following statement sums up the irresponsible attitude and thinking of the Serbian government and the regional / local authorities:

While  the local government  gave 5 million dinars  for  killing of strays  for this year,   we  got  20,000 dinars from  Medijana  Borough  to pay  the bread  bill and 24,000 dinars from  Palilula Borough  to  neuter a few females”.
