UK: Are you ready to try iAnimal?

U Flag

Are you ready to try iAnimal?

For the first time, you will have the possibility of joining our investigators into the world of farmed animals.

Now anyone can experience first hand what life is like for animals inside factory farms and slaughterhouses.

You will stand next to a mother pig while she gives birth for the sixth time to piglets who will soon be taken away from her. You will experience the extreme confinement of the gestation crates. You will witness the daily suffering that takes place inside a pig farm. You will be right there when they take their last breath.

I understand that witnessing their suffering is not easy, but it is necessary to know the truth behind our food industry. Sometimes it seems easier to look away, to turn a blind eye to their suffering, but today I am asking you to bear witness.

Today I am asking you to immerse yourself into the lives of farmed animals.

iAnimal is composed of 360° footage inside farms and slaughterhouses in the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Spain and Mexico. The project was designed specifically for virtual reality headsets. Through the lenses of the virtual reality headset, the viewer feels present in the lives of farmed pigs and gets the opportunity to witness the day-to-day realities of the animal agriculture industry. iAnimal is being made available to everyone through a virtual tour on our website and a 360° video on youtube.

iAnimal has gained support from actors such as Peter Egan from Downton Abbey and musicians such as Tony Kanal, and we hope to gain yours as well!

“To watch a poor sow, locked in a cage, unable to move or turn around, in a facility housing many others… a breeding facility. Lying in her own waste, unable to enjoy contact with her piglets other than by suckling them is both harrowing and heartbreaking. The experience places you in the facility, it is unforgettable.”

                                                                            – Peter Egan. Downton Abbey actor

To experience the journey yourself, visit ianimal.uk

We are initiating a tour to bring iAnimal to top universities in the UK, including Oxford, Cambridge, Exeter, Manchester, Birmingham Bristol and many more . We are also bringing it to parliaments, tech conferences, and other events around the world.

By educating the public on animal abuse, we hope more people will move toward a cruelty-free lifestyle and help create a more compassionate world.

This would not have been done without people like you! Please continue to support our efforts by sharing iAnimal to help bring this project even further.

Thank you!

Here are a few pictures of some of our feline friends which either live here, or visit us every day.

Above – Our little ‘Arianne’

Little ‘Arianne’ is ‘our’ own cat – a rescue who was almost without her fur originally and has now lived here for almost 4 years.  She is a sweetie; very affectionate and has a habit of wanting to sit on your lap whilst you are in the office (trying) to make use of the keyboard.

But like Mark she is into Guns and Roses, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Damned. The Stranglers and Siouxsie Sioux.

Blondie rs

Above – ‘Blondie’

‘Blondie’ is not that blonde as you can see – but then that is Mark’s warped sense of humour !

A sweet little cat who has something to eat, enjoys getting some attention, and then settles down to sleep for hours.

Grumpy.1 rs

Grumpy.2 rs

Above – ‘Grumps’

‘Grumps’ is another beautiful cat, but does have a little bit of an attitude problem sometimes.  Quite unusual markings.

Whatever, they all hang around for some food, which they always get, and then they just crash out around the house finding the best places to stay warm and cosy.

We have no intention of becoming a cat shelter, but we are starting to look more like this each day !

We have campaigned against live exports from (South East) English ports for the last 25+ years – see some of our ‘past history events’ via the following link.

UK live exports have virtually stopped completely as a result of many years dedicated campaigning.  It is now only the Dutch who come to the UK and export live UK animals to Europe.  The Brits have had a long hatred for live animal exports – see here what we mean:

More than 5 years of evidence gathering, and presentation to the EU.

What have they done ? – Nothing, that’s what.  Animals in transport continue to suffer the worst nightmare –

watch the video below to see what we mean.

EU head bury_NEW

Following on from all of our recent work and posts relating to the terrible conditions which EU animals are having to endure en route to Turkey, as filmed by Lesley and the crew at Eyes on Animals in the Netherlands – http://www.eyesonanimals.com/    we have now started a petition to get it stopped.  The petition link is given directly below.

Please sign and also pass on to all your contacts – we want to make an impact with this petition and make the EU Commissioners who are responsible for allowing this animal abuse to happen accountable to the citizens of Europe and the rest of the world.

EOA Turkey 2

Petition wording

To: Vytenis Andriukaitis EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety and Phil Hogan EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development

Firstly, please watch the video showing how EU animals continue to suffer at the Turkish border; and have done in this way for at least the last 5 years.

Video Link – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udReHkAumrY&feature=youtu.be

Live EU animals are very regularly exported from EU member states to Turkey, a non EU state. EU citizens are continually alarmed by the clear and obvious breaches of regulations by some EU member states to protect the welfare of animals during long distance transport.

The so called EU Regulation 1/2005 on the alleged ‘protection of animals during transport’ is a complete and utter joke for which we hold you responsible. It is never enforced as the attached video taken at the Turkish border clearly shows.

You are failing animals of the EU. The EU should commit itself to immediately ending live animal exports from the EU; especially as (EU) animal welfare organisations continue to provide clear evidence of welfare breaches which you personally constantly ignore.

EOA Turkey 1

If animals are to be slaughtered for meat, then it should be undertaken within the EU to standards enforced by the EU rather than by third world nations such as Turkey who do not care about animal welfare or suffering at slaughter.

As global citizens concerned for the welfare of animals, we ask that the EU introduces an immediate ban on all live animal exports to third countries, including Turkey.

Your inaction and continual excuses for non action are yet more reasons why the UK has a referendum to leave the EU in June 2016. Other nations such as the Netherlands will follow in a similar manner very soon. If you continue to disregard all the evidence that is presented to you of the suffering of animals in transport; the EU will eventually disintegrate; and the only people to blame are Commissioners such as yourselves who have been provided with the continual evidence of cruelty and suffering for years, and yet still constantly ignore it.

You are not Commissioners, you are simply people that formally approve animal abuse and suffering and to support this, invent phrases about legislation to circumnavigate the reality of animal suffering!

The EU wants no animal suffering; not Commissioners such as yourselves who turn the other way when it happens !

Article 13 of the Treaty of Lisbon

With the support and close co-operation of the Member States, the European Commission has been promoting animal welfare for over 40 years.  A step in 1998 was Council Directive 98/58/EC on the protection of animals kept for farming purposes which gave general rules for the protection of animals of all species kept for the production of food, wool, skin or fur or for other farming purposes, including fish, reptiles or amphibians.

These rules are based on the European Convention for the Protection of Animals kept for Farming Purposes(214 kB)   and they reflect the so-called ‘Five Freedoms’:

  • Freedom from hunger and thirst

  • Freedom from discomfort

  • Freedom from pain, injury and disease

  • Freedom to express normal behaviour

  • Freedom from fear and distress

When the Lisbon Treaty came into force in 2009 it amended the ‘Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union’ (TFEU) and introduced the recognition that animals are sentient beings.

Article 13 of Title II states that:

In formulating and implementing the Union’s agriculture, fisheries, transport, internal market, research and technological development and space policies, the Union and the Member States shall, since animals are sentient beings, pay full regard to the welfare requirements of animals, while respecting the legislative or administrative provisions and customs of the Member States relating in particular to religious rites, cultural traditions and regional heritage.”

National governments may adopt more stringent rules provided they are compatible with the provisions of the Treaty but Community legislation concerning the welfare conditions of farm animals lays down minimum standards.

Doomed EU 1

Doomed Europe ?  – maybe citizens are fed up with self righteous Commissioners who do not actually do anything the man in the street wants, except for feathering their own political nest ! – see below.

England: 25/2/16 – All UK MEP’s Now Supplied With Video Copy and Letter – SAV also Supplies Video and Letter To The European Parliament’s Press Service.

Stopping long distance lie animal transport is an issue that we feel very strongly about and have campaigned against for over 25 years.  See more about this in ‘About Us’ which is tabbed at the top of the page.

EOA Turkey 1

25/2/16 update

As well as completing contact and supply of the EU / Turkish video to all of the UK MEP’s today, we have also sent copies of the video to the European Parliament’s Press Service, which comprises a team of press officers whose job it is to assist journalists and provide them with information on what is going on in Parliament. Each press officer specialises in a particular area, official language or member state, so as to ensure comprehensive coverage of all of Parliament’s activities and to provide information to journalists from all Member States.

The video or issue of non EU animal exports is not currently being discussed by Parliament, but we have made the Press Service aware of the UK referendum in June; which we know they will be interested in.  We have outlined that many UK voters will be influenced by the video.

EOA Turkey 2

We have today (25/2/16) written to:

  • the Director for the Media and European Parliament Spokesman

  • the Head of Press Unit and Deputy Spokesperson

  • the Head of the Media Services Unit

And the 4 members of the Press Unit – Spokespersons Service

We flagged the message and have already had confirmation back from almost everyone that they have read the mail (which contains the video link).

We hope that even though the issue is not currently being discussed by the Parliament, the UK referendum and the release of the new video may work its way through to some EU journalists.

England: Copy Of EU / Turkish Border (Animal Transport) Video Now Sent To ALL 57 English Members of the European Parliament (MEP’s).

England

EOA Turkey 1

Further update – 25/2/16.

We have now also submitted copies of the video to all

Scottish and Welsh MEP’s.

We are flagging all messages sent so that we can check who is / is not reading our mail.

We really hope that other EU citizens / visitors to this site are also sending copies of the video link to their own MEP(s).

We need pressure to be put on from all areas of the EU, not just the UK and Netherlands.

EU / Turkey live export update – 24/2/16.

Video Link –

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udReHkAumrY&feature=youtu.be

We have been busy today making sure that a copy of the video (see link above) has been provided, along with a covering letter, to every one of the 57 Member’s of the European Parliament (MEP).

EOA Turkey 2

This now leaves us with just copies to be sent to MEP’s in Wales, Scotland and N. Ireland – about 13 copies in total.

We need to make an impact on the MEP’s who are elected by the people to undertake the wishes of the people.

We hope that other EU citizens will forward the video link on to their MEP’s just the same as we have.
