The pig which you can see in the photographs is named ‘Klementina’.

Klementina
Originally, Klementina’s owner brought her along to the EPAR shelter because she had a bad back leg and she was of no use to him. He told the shelter staff that Klementina could be killed, her body cut up and fed to the dogs in the shelter !
So Klementina was taken in by the shelter, but with a completely different view on what would be done to her. There was no way that Klementina was going to end up as dog food !
As EPAR is a No Kill shelter and takes care of every animal which comes through its gates, there was no way that the new arrival Klementina was going to end up dead and cut up as chunks of dog food.
So immediately a nice warm area was found for Klementina to live in, and she was given loads of food which she loved. Because of her bad leg, it was decided to immediately try and get Klementina veterinary help to diagnose the problem and hopefully make it better.

In Her Warm, Dry Shelter
Eventually, this last summer, a vet with the right equipment needed was found and Klementina was taken along for some x-rays of her leg. You can see photograph of her being x-rayed by the veterinarian.

Klementina Arrives At the Vets

X-Rays are Taken

And She is Given a Full Check
The result of the x-rays showed that Kelmentina has some trouble with her pelvis articulation, but the very good news is that there is NOT a fracture as was originally suspected. Because of this, Klementina does not need to have an operation at the moment.
Her progress will be monitored carefully over the next few months and then if there are no real improvements in the use or movement of her leg, surgery may then need to be undertaken with regard an artificial articulation joint into her pelvis.
But now, Kelementina is a very happy pig – you can see her smiling in the photograph. In the Spring of next year, a new home will be made for Klementina so that she can really live like a very happy pig.

A Happy, Smiling Pig Enjoying Her Lunch
EPAR has really saved Klementina’s bacon, and everyone is very happy that she is currently doing so well. We really hope that in the next few months, the leg articulation will greatly improve. If it does not, now it is known what can be done to help Klementina’s trouble.
The best thing is that Klementina is still alive and has not become dog food; she is in fact a great friend of many of the dogs.
Get Well Soon Klementina !

New York City Bunny Butcher……
Please see our recent post – https://serbiananimalsvoice.wordpress.com/2008/12/20/usa-donna-karan-bunny-butcher-of-old-new-york-city/
….. Announces that during 2009, her
designs will go FUR FREE !
Thanks to the hard work of PETA’s staff, members, and volunteers and after nearly a year of pressuring designer Donna Karan to drop fur from her designs—by protesting outside her boutiques, crashing her runway show, and exposing her cruel use of fur online—
Donna Karan has announced that all her Fall 2009 lines will be fur-free and that she has “no plans” to use fur in the future.
Well done, everyone!
Karan’s turnaround came days after PETA launched our online campaign and after mega–fashion guru Tim Gunn sent Karan and designer Giorgio Armani a video that he narrated for PETA showing animals skinned alive for their fur and urged them to open their eyes to the violent and bloody fur industry.
Thank you for helping to make this happen. Let’s keep going strong! While Donna Karan has followed in the footsteps of top designers—including Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Calvin Klein—Armani still refuses to stop using fur. Armani claims that he “only” uses fur from rabbits who are butchered for meat. We hope that you will take this opportunity to contact Armani to tell him that the cruelty depicted in this video on fur farms in both China and France show animals who are used for both fur and meat. Tell him that even if the meat of gentle rabbits killed for their fur is sold to be eaten, the rabbits endure the same suffering.
Thank you for helping make the world safer for fur-bearing animals, and best wishes for a happy and humane holiday season!
Sincerely,
Ingrid E. Newkirk
President

SAV Comment: This is an essential campaign which must be won for animals in transport across Europe. Please sign on line, it takes a few seconds, and pass on to every contact you know. The 1,000,000 signature goal needs to be acheived as soon as possible.
Thank You.

Dear animal friend
STOP Long Animal Transports
Today, too many animals are transported under unacceptable conditions on European highways.
The most important issue is the duration of the transports. Current EU legislation allows for animals to be transported for several days.
This has to be changed.
Live animals for slaugther should never be transported for more than eight hours.
Support 8hours.
Our goal is to collect 1,000,000 signatures, something EU politicians will not be able to ignore.
We have now more than 30,000 signatures. We are happy about that, however, it is far from enough.
During the spring, it is anticipated that the European Commission will introduce a new bill regarding animal transportation. It is a big opportunity for us who want to stop the long and unacceptable transports taking place everyday throughout Europe.
Therefore, I invite you to get your friends to sign as well.
We are already 30,000 just 3 or 4 friends more per person will be more than 100,000.
That would be a strong signal to send and we could make a difference.
Best regards
Dan Jørgensen
Initiator of 8hours
Member of the European-Parliament (PES)

URGE EU TO STOP SUBSIDISING BULLFIGHTS
The EU is supporting the torturing to death of bulls in the bullring and countless other animals in village ‘blood fiestas’. We find it absolutely disgusting that a proportion of my tax goes to support animal abuse.

BAN HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGES IN NEW YORK CITY
Every year, the list of accidents involving horse-drawn carriages grows longer. Horses are often forced to labor in all weather extremes while walking on hard pavement, dodging cars, and inhaling exhaust fumes. After decades of controversy, it has become clear that additional rules and monitoring make no difference in the lives of these at-risk and dispirited animals. The only humane solution is a permanent ban on horse-drawn carriages.

END WHALE BLOODBATH IN DANISH FAEROE ISLAND
Every year between 2,000 and 3,500 pilot whales are corralled by men in boats and forced into bays in the Faeroe Islands, a North Sea Danish Protectorate mid-way between the Shetland Islands and Iceland.
Citizens worldwide are sickened by the annual vision of whales marooned in blood-red waters. Islanders stone, gouge, spear, hack and bludgeon some 2,000 to 3,500 long- and short-finned pilot whales.

HELP BAN FUR FARMING IN NORWAY
The Norwegian fur industry is continuously trying to present fur farming as unproblematic. During the summer of 2008 activists from Network for Animal Freedom traveled the country to see how the farm animals are actually treated. They inspected more than 100 randomly chosen fur farms in every county where such farms exist, covering over 20 percent of the fur farms in Norway.

HELP ANIMALS IN EU LABS
Over 12 million animals are used in experiments in Europe every year, and the numbers are continuing to rise. In recent years, it has become increasingly apparent that the Directive needs to be revised. The current Directive is open to interpretation and does not mirror important progress that has been made in science over the last two decades. New techniques have become available, such as use of transgenic animals, xeno-transplantation and cloning. These require specific attention, which the current Directive does not provide for nor is the use of animals with a higher degree of neurophysiologic sensitivity, such as in the case of non-human primates, specifically regulated.

OIPA NAPLES
In Italy OIPA is operated throught its Italian branches, from the North to the South.
OIPA Naples was founded on the belief that stray animals are to be treated with the same love and respect as other living beings.
Its illegal to abandon a pet in Italy. Our branch is very involved in animal legislation relating public safety and animal welfare. By reporting cases of suspected or known animal cruelty they offer to the animals, protection and a second chance. To reduce all forms of cruelty and encourage a more compassionate society we ask each of you to be alert to all forms of neglect and violence. Each of us has the power to make a meaningful difference in the lives of neglected and abused animals.
OIPA Naples is solely run by volunteers, and they are always happy to welcome new people who want to help them continue to help homeless animals.
