Uk (London): The Animals Film – It’s Not About Them, it’s About Us !

unkg00014

It’s not about them…. It’s about us.

For the first time on DVD
the controversial classic film shockingly relevant to today

http://www.theanimalsfilm.com/

Said Alan Brien of THE SUNDAY TIMES (UK) I do not know when I have come out of a screening so moved by the power of the cinema as a medium to transform the entire sensibility of an audience.

“The most impressive film maudit, possibly too hot to handle, is Victor Schonfeld’s The Animals Film, a polemical onslaught, stuffed with footage never before shown, and a wealth of newly-shot material often taken undercover, which documents…mankind’s degradation, exploitation, and often pointless torture, of the creatures who share our planet.

He proves, beyond contradiction, that this behaviour is not just random or personal but part of our organised society, with drug companies, government departments, scientists, military authorities, factory farmers, university research laboratories, for their own selfish ends, for profit in money or prestige.

The pioneering, definitive documentary about the exploitation of animals in modern society, THE ANIMALS FILM was released theatrically and televised internationally to wide acclaim.

On Britain’s Channel 4 network, it was the debut film in the “World Cinema” slot, broadcast on the new network’s 3rd night on-air. Among the film’s many distinctions, it was broadcast uninterrupted by commercial breaks on C4.

For the Swedish TV broadcast, Sweden’s biggest newspaper sat the country’s Minister of Agriculture in front of the TV to give his reactions, and new legislation was put on the agenda.

The film was Pick-of-the-Week & Pick-of-the-Day in all UK national newspapers, and generated extensive front-page news and feature stories in the UK and overseas.

Startling… impeccable… a storm of approval for The Animals Film.
The Guardian (UK)

I do not know when I have been so moved by the power of the cinema as a medium to transform the entire sensibility of an audience.
The Sunday Times (UK)

A deeply affecting and compelling film… the most important and passionate utterance on scenes of suffering and surviving since Peter Watkins made The War Game nearly 20 years ago.
The Australian

Compulsively watchable… The work of an accomplished committed film-maker who knows how to manipulate images and sound.
New Musical Express

The dichotomy between the way we care for animals and the way we exploit and abuse them is explored with shocking vividness…Keating’s photography is stunning… Schonfeld’s narration is muscular…has a haunting poetry.
Hollywood Reporter

The Oregonian

What is shown cannot be denied or, once seen, forgotten. It is truly a film that must make intelligent, sensitive viewers think very seriously about the issues.

A powerful chronicle…it should be seen by people who care about animals and is necessary viewing for those who haven’t really given it much thought…Its images are hard to forget or ignore.
The Arizona Daily Star

Explosive, tough and very special British film.
The Toronto Sun

It’s not about them…. It’s about us.

Subject:  (Very disturbing to) view these came from China…
Their behaviour is not illegal. There’s no animal protection law in China and that’s what we’ve been working on as hardest as we can for the past years.

Hi, this is Danielle from Sunflower Human Society Beijing.

A few words about the picture of the suffering dog:

It’s a seriously abused stray dog who’s in heaven now.

A volunteer found him in Foshan, Guangdong province.

His two eyeballs were digged out and his genitals cut off.

The volunteer sent him to the vet.

Many people couldn’t stop crying when they saw his wounds everywhere.

They finally agreed to put him into sleep to end his suffering.
However, even if they found him/her, what they can do about him/her other than cursing him/her?

Volunteers have been searching the information about the murderer online.

There are similar tragedies happening everywhere

Thanks so much for your care, support and help to the Chinese animals.

Let's pray things will be improving gradually through our joint continuous efforts.

We-friends and voices of the animals here-will do our very best for our furry friends.

Asunto: [aapn] Indonesia: Death sentence for Bali dogs – please help
Fecha: sábado, 14 marzo, 2009 11:57

Dear AAPN Members,

Apart from sending petitions from across the world to the Indonesian authorities ,
cannot the AAPN consider an online resolution , form a high level experienced spay/neuter team and rush to Bali or the Indonesian authorities and convince them with all the handin materials , expertise etc.,  It has to be one time within months programme to convince them.

By doing or trying such practical field practice AAPN  would achieve the objective
that have been seeking for and the money spent in this regard is well recognised.

If this is allowed to continue with them the reflection will be severe in other Asian
countries like China, Korea, Singapore and others where the authorities will never be convinced with the ABC programme and is a setback to our activities.

If the AAPN team can achieve to convince and do the programme there , Bali can
be taken as a project and the reflection  positive achievement can  be used for other countries.  Please remember the Srilanka Tsunami team progress.

I was talking about India to do this kind of thing as India is  ahuge rabies problem
but we can do this in  Bali now and showcase as it is smaller place than  ours to prove the results quickly.

The situation in Bali is very discouraging to read and visualise an d is a great shame
that it has to happen and continue to happen in a place where the AAPN had its latest meeting and moreso nullifying  report an d glorification with the ONE DAY SPAY PROGRAMME.

I pray for the two dogs that were sterilised in the conference room and released
immediately in the hotel area.

Kind regards,
Pradeep.

Death sentence for Bali dogs
Healthy dogs killed as a precaution against rabies and left to rot
in the street.
What tourists can expect to see on Bali streets

In a kneejerk reaction to a report of rabies killing 8 people, the
Balinese Government has begun an elimination program of all community
dogs and cats across the Island of Bali using strychnine
poison. Healthy animals and pets are also included because the
program is not selective.
Strychnine poison causes an agonising and painful death, sometimes
taking hours.

The Animal Protection Association of Australia (APAA)
has documented evidence of dogs dying in agony on Bali streets with
gruesome piles of dead dogs left on the streets in full public view.

See APAA’s video evidence (warning – graphic and
heartbreaking)

www.animalprotectionaustralia.org

The Balinese Government have banned the vaccination of dogs and cats
in most areas yet the World Health Organisation advises the most
economical and effective method is to pre-vaccinate populations of
cats and dogs against rabies.
The elimination program also poses a real danger to Balinese and
tourists alike because dart guns are being used in crowded public
areas.

Other methods used to kill dogs in Bali include bludgeoning and
shooting. Australians recently witnessed the shooting of dogs in
full public view on Seminyak beach

Make these points …………

Stop the cruel slaughter of dogs in Bali immidiately.
Lift the ban on rabies vaccines and let the animal welfare groups in
Bali start vaccinating all the dogs straight away.
Start vaccinating all dogs accross Bali.
You will not consider holidaying in Bali until the killing program is stopped.
Bali represents peace, beauty, charm and tranquility for tourists.
Shocking cruelty to animals does not belong in Bali any more than
terrorism belongs in Bali

England (Uk): Huntsman Sentenced to 6 Months for Assaulting Hunt Monitor and Acting Like An “arrogant, cowardly, drunken lout”.

unkg00012

** SAV February Post UPDATE ** –

Original Story:

Please refer to our SAV post (link below) of 24th February:

https://serbiananimalsvoice.wordpress.com/2009/02/24/uk-hunts-use-thuggery-to-intimidate-anti-hunt-monitors-and-prevent-them-getting-evidence-of-illegal-hunting/

Huntsman is jailed for assaults

A Devon huntsman has been jailed for assaulting two animal rights activists.

Christopher Marles, 48, of Farringdon, had earlier admitted using his horse to knock Helen Weeks to the ground as she filmed the East Devon Hunt.

He was serving a suspended sentence for attacking another hunt monitor when the second assault happened in March 2008.

Sentencing Marles at Exeter Crown Court to six months in jail for the offences, the judge said he had acted like an “arrogant, cowardly, drunken lout”.

“I hope you are thoroughly ashamed of yourself,” Recorder Ros Collins told Marles.

Previous conviction

In October 2006, Marles was sentenced to nine months, suspended for two years, for causing actual bodily harm to 58-year-old Kevin Hill.

Mr Hill was left with two black eyes and needed six stitches after being punched while filming the Devon and Somerset Staghounds.

In the attack in March, Ms Weeks was filming near Whimpole as Marles repeatedly rode his horse into her. The footage was shown in court.

She accepted he had not tried to physically hurt her but that his idea was to put fear into her.

Speaking after the hearing, Ms Weeks said: “I expected him to ride on by and he just turned his horse in one movement towards me.

“He didn’t stop, he just carried on. He took the horse by surprise and the horse just went into my shoulder and pushed me into the ditch.”

China: International Call To Write to Chinese Embassies – Sickening Dog and Cat Cruelty Taking Place Today in China

*** Note – for non Uk residents, please see the note at the end of this post for other international Chinese embassy links ***

naturewatch1

Photographs and Leaflet – Naturewatch, Gloucestershire, England.

Dear Supporter

Your help is urgently needed! And you can provide it with the cost of a stamp.

Today I am writing to you because Naturewatch needs your help to put pressure on the Chinese authorities to introduce animal protection laws in China.

The vile and sickening torture of cats and dogs for human consumption in China is beyond belief.  I won’t go into any detail of how the animals are tortured in this email as it is far too gruesome, however you will find information on our website >> http://www.naturewatch.eu/youtube-videos

The barbarity is so extreme, thousands of ill-fated cats and dogs take their last breath while enduring the most hellish suffering.

What kind of human and what kind of government can allow this repulsive treatment of innocent and defenceless animals?

Please write a letter to the Chinese Ambassador
We would like you to express your feelings to the Chinese Ambassador to the UK about the cruel treatment of animals in China.   Please let her know that it is completely unacceptable, totally unjustified, and brings shame and disgrace upon China.

Please click here to download a letter which you can simply print, sign and post to the Chinese Embassy in London.  The letter explains the main points, but please feel free to add your thoughts, or to write your own letter if you wish.

Please send the letter to:
Her Excellency Madame Fu Ying
Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the United Kingdom
49-51 Portland Place
London
W1B 1JL

Naturewatch supporters are sending their letters now, so please send your letter as soon as possible to increase the impact of the campaign.

Your letter to the Chinese Ambassador could be truly life saving for millions of cats and dogs, and it will take you no more than a minute to print the template letter, fill it in and send it to the Chinese Ambassador.

To learn more about the work we are carrying out, please visit our website >> www.naturewatch.eu

Thank you for your continued support!

Romania: An Urgent Call to ALL INTERNATIONAL Welfare Organisations With Stray Animal Experience – Your Immediate Help Is Needed Please

rmna0001
Dear supporters;

We have had the following mail from Daniela who is involved with the stray dogs issue in Romania.
It must be said now that we give full support to Daniela and FRPCA in the
actions they are undertaking.

We hope that this case will draw attention to the stray animals issue both within EU nations and those who are currently non EU members but hoping
to gain accession.  We also hope that the actions here will provide us
and other animal welfare organisations with many ideas, suggestions
and guidance as to what can be done for the future with regard legal
actions against authorities who are not undertaking enforcement of
their own national legislation.

Finally, Daniela asks in her mail:

“We kindly ask you to join & support our action, by sending letters that will be attached to our dossier, speaking about the international
experience in many countries, and about results of the spay-neuter
programs”.

Whilst we understand the feeling that people have about the stray animal situation and the ways animals are suffering, we would like to say that
the data and evidence presented to Daniela will be used as evidence
in a Court of Law; and so we ask please that if any data is presented,
it is kept polite, respectful of those who will be reviewing it, and very
importantly, constructive in the information that it provides
– ie. That No Kill spay and neuter, vaccination and identificaion is the only
way to deal with the issue of stray animals population management; combined
with an effective public education programme about the responsibilities of
animal ownership.

Lets remember, not all strays that are on the streets are offspring of other un-owned strays; many ‘strays’ are the direct result of
OWNED but UN-STERILISED animals being allowed to go loose and
roam the streets every day by their owners who should be taking much
more responsibility for their own animals.

Public education about sterilisation of owned animals and the responsibilities of all pet owners to have this undertaken on their
pets is a paramount issue for stray animal population numbers reduction.
If owned animals are not sterilised, then the reproduction rates given in the
graphics at the end of this post are typical of the additional numbers of animals
that can end up on the streets.

Please only send information to Daniela which will be of use in a court of law.

We all wish Daniela every success with this action.

SAV.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the message from Daniela:

Dear All,

You might be aware of the street dog situation in Braila - Romania, and our efforts since 2006 to convince the local administration they
must spay&neuter, neuter&spay, since the dog culling and killing will
never remove the dogs from streets.

Since January 2008 the Romanian law for animal protection 9/2008 bans the euthanasia of healthy street dogs. The city hall of Braila pays a
dogcatchers NGO (for 'animal protection') that 'store' about 1000 - 1500 dogs
a year in conditions hard to describe (fertile males and females together,
overcrowded, strong and weak dogs together, without food, infants and puppies
separated from their mothers), maltreat them, cannot justify where the dogs
(and money) vanish, insult people that visit the dogpound to rescue their  dogs.
Upon complaints,  the animal organizations are banned from visiting the
dogpound - even in the presence of police.

So the law for animal protection has no effect in this dogpound where hundred dogs are impounded.
This NGO (Horez) never did a single spay or neuter - their veterinarian
is only on papers, to put his stamp.
They got 8,5 billion lei (over 200,000 Euro) in 28 months (Aug 2006 - Dec 2008)
from city hall to kill and maltreat animals.

You (ie. Many International Animal welfare organisations / NGO’s) have a great deal of experience and examples of how sterilization programs
work; you know details about the situation in Braila - FPCC, RAR,
Vier Pfoten, Save the Dogs - since there were many attempts to convince the
mayors to rethink their policy.

Here are more details, articles, photos and films:

http://protectiaanimalelor.ro/caini/caini_braila.htm

Now FRPCA sued the mayor of Braila, Aurel Simionescu, and another 3 representatives of the local administration for the faulty
management of street dogs, for the lack of efficiency in spending
public money, without solving the street dog problem and for animal cruelty.

The mayor refuses any solution, excepting this illegal NGO and its dogpound (it works without sanitary veterinarian authorization and is paid
from taxpayers' money).

We kindly ask you to join & support our action, by sending letters
that will be attached to our dossier, speaking about the international experience in many countries, and about results of the spay-neuter programs.

Please speak about how the law for animal protection is enforced in your countries, and about penalties for maltreating animals.

Vier Pfoten offered Braila administration help to solve the problem, many times, without costs, though the mayors refused the solution
proposed by animal organizations.

The address of Braila Mayor, Mr. Aurel Simionescu
aurelsimionescu@primariabr.ro

It is important that the letters from animal organizations to reach me, since we want to use all arguments in court, in this trial:
Please spread this message to all animal organizations to support our action - remember that the letters will be used in court.

For more details, please contact me.
