We have campaigned against live exports from (South East) English ports for the last 25+ years – see some of our ‘past history events’ via the following link.
UK live exports have virtually stopped completely as a result of many years dedicated campaigning. It is now only the Dutch who come to the UK and export live UK animals to Europe. The Brits have had a long hatred for live animal exports – see here what we mean:
Regards SAV.

————————————
More than 5 years of evidence gathering, and presentation to the EU.
What have they done ? – Nothing, that’s what. Animals in transport continue to suffer the worst nightmare –
watch the video below to see what we mean.

Following on from all of our recent work and posts relating to the terrible conditions which EU animals are having to endure en route to Turkey, as filmed by Lesley and the crew at Eyes on Animals in the Netherlands – http://www.eyesonanimals.com/ we have now started a petition to get it stopped. The petition link is given directly below.
Please sign and also pass on to all your contacts – we want to make an impact with this petition and make the EU Commissioners who are responsible for allowing this animal abuse to happen accountable to the citizens of Europe and the rest of the world.

Petition link –
Look at the video below and see what exactly we are petitioning about:

Video link –

Petition wording –
To: Vytenis Andriukaitis EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety and Phil Hogan EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development
Firstly, please watch the video showing how EU animals continue to suffer at the Turkish border; and have done in this way for at least the last 5 years.
Live EU animals are very regularly exported from EU member states to Turkey, a non EU state. EU citizens are continually alarmed by the clear and obvious breaches of regulations by some EU member states to protect the welfare of animals during long distance transport.
The so called EU Regulation 1/2005 on the alleged ‘protection of animals during transport’ is a complete and utter joke for which we hold you responsible. It is never enforced as the attached video taken at the Turkish border clearly shows.
You are failing animals of the EU. The EU should commit itself to immediately ending live animal exports from the EU; especially as (EU) animal welfare organisations continue to provide clear evidence of welfare breaches which you personally constantly ignore.

If animals are to be slaughtered for meat, then it should be undertaken within the EU to standards enforced by the EU rather than by third world nations such as Turkey who do not care about animal welfare or suffering at slaughter.
As global citizens concerned for the welfare of animals, we ask that the EU introduces an immediate ban on all live animal exports to third countries, including Turkey.
Your inaction and continual excuses for non action are yet more reasons why the UK has a referendum to leave the EU in June 2016. Other nations such as the Netherlands will follow in a similar manner very soon. If you continue to disregard all the evidence that is presented to you of the suffering of animals in transport; the EU will eventually disintegrate; and the only people to blame are Commissioners such as yourselves who have been provided with the continual evidence of cruelty and suffering for years, and yet still constantly ignore it.
You are not Commissioners, you are simply people that formally approve animal abuse and suffering and to support this, invent phrases about legislation to circumnavigate the reality of animal suffering!
The EU wants no animal suffering; not Commissioners such as yourselves who turn the other way when it happens !

Article 13 of the Treaty of Lisbon
With the support and close co-operation of the Member States, the European Commission has been promoting animal welfare for over 40 years. A step in 1998 was Council Directive 98/58/EC on the protection of animals kept for farming purposes which gave general rules for the protection of animals of all species kept for the production of food, wool, skin or fur or for other farming purposes, including fish, reptiles or amphibians.
-
Freedom from hunger and thirst
-
Freedom from discomfort
-
Freedom from pain, injury and disease
-
Freedom to express normal behaviour
-
Freedom from fear and distress
When the Lisbon Treaty came into force in 2009 it amended the ‘Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union’ (TFEU) and introduced the recognition that animals are sentient beings.
Article 13 of Title II states that:
“In formulating and implementing the Union’s agriculture, fisheries, transport, internal market, research and technological development and space policies, the Union and the Member States shall, since animals are sentient beings, pay full regard to the welfare requirements of animals, while respecting the legislative or administrative provisions and customs of the Member States relating in particular to religious rites, cultural traditions and regional heritage.”
National governments may adopt more stringent rules provided they are compatible with the provisions of the Treaty but Community legislation concerning the welfare conditions of farm animals lays down minimum standards.

Doomed Europe ? – maybe citizens are fed up with self righteous Commissioners who do not actually do anything the man in the street wants, except for feathering their own political nest ! – see below.

Is the USA becoming the new Serbia when it comes to animal cruelty and suffering ?
Read the following and then tell that wolves in the USA are doing ok

Target: Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Commissioner, Tom Landwehr
Goal: Investigate illegal slaughter of three wolves and bring murderers to justice.
The bodies of three gray wolves were recently found dumped in a ditch along a road in Minnesota. These beautiful animals are protected under the Endangered Species Act, yet someone blatantly disregarded this protection by killing these three wolves and throwing their bodies unceremoniously into a ditch. The murder of these innocent animals is a heinous crime, and those responsible must be brought to justice.
Wolf populations in Minnesota have been extremely delicate for decades, and their continued survival needs to be protected. Many hunters and trappers want hunting of wolves to be reinstated, but recently the existing population of wolves was still low enough for a judge to determine that they needed to continue to be listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.
With this status, wolves are granted government protection from hunters and trappers, and killing them for sport is illegal. The three wolves that were found dumped by the side of the road had snare marks on their necks, suggesting that their deaths are likely due to illegal poaching. Not only are these innocent animals, but they are animals who we are supposed to be protecting so that their species can avoid permanent extinction.
Because killing gray wolves is an illegal offense, it is punishable by up to six months in jail and a $25,000 fine. Whoever committed the despicable act of murdering these three gray wolves needs to be found and held accountable for their actions.
Please sign the petition below to show your support for the protection of gray wolves by demanding these murderers be found and punished.
….. and …………………

On Friday, the House of Representatives passed a bill loaded with some of the worst anti-wildlife provisions I have ever seen.
If the billed passes the Senate and is signed into law, it will be a death sentence for wolves, elephants and other wildlife.
-Jamie

Our worst fears have come to pass on Capitol Hill. And lives are at stake.
Today, the full House of Representatives passed H.R. 2406, the so-called “Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Act of 2015.” The bill is loaded with some of the worst anti-wildlife provisions I have seen.
If this bill passes the Senate and is signed into law, it will be a death sentence for wolves, elephants and other vulnerable wildlife.

If this bill becomes law:
-
Wolves will die. Wolves in Wyoming and the Great Lakes will lose Endangered Species Act protection. The last time wolves were delisted in Wyoming, 80% of the state became a free-fire zone where anyone could shoot wolves at will.
-
Elephants will die. America’s ability to crack down on the importation and sale of illegal ivory will be crippled. This gun lobby-backed provision will send a message to the armed criminals who are decimating Africa’s last herds that the American market is still open for business.
-
Alaskan predators will die. The bill would strip the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and National Park Service of the authority to bar the state of Alaska from launching a program to decimate wolves, grizzly bears and other large carnivores within national wildlife refuges and national preserves across Alaska.
-
Toxic lead will continue to contaminate wildlife habitat. The bill would prohibit federal agencies from regulating lead in most forms of ammunition and fishing tackle. In the United States, an estimated 3,000 tons of lead are shot into the environment by hunting every year, leading to the death of many animals from toxic lead poisoning.
You and I Can Stop This Insanity
We are the voice in Washington, D.C. for species that have no voice of their own. And we’re your voice too.
With your help, we’ll make sure this bill never becomes law. Our legislative team is working together with other conservation organizations to make sure the grassroots pressure to protect wildlife is unrelenting.
Thank you for all you do!
Sincerely,
Jamie Rappaport Clark
President, Defenders of Wildlife

Petition – Cat Sadistically Tortured for Months by Wall Street Banker, Says Owner
Target: Cyrus Vance, District Attorney of Manhattan
Goal: Pursue the maximum penalty for man accused of brutally torturing his roommate’s cat for three months.
Lucy the cat is on life support after allegedly being brutally tortured by its owner’s roommate for three months. The roommate, Declan Garrity, who has been charged with animal cruelty, allegedly broke the bones in the cat’s face, legs, and pelvis, ripped out its claws, and torched her.
Garrity, who is a financial analysis at a large Wall Street bank, reportedly told the owner that the cat injured herself while he was home alone with her. One excuse was that an iron fell on Lucy by accident.
Lucy deserves justice and other living beings deserve to be protected from the cruel monsters who wish to torture them. Demand that this person be vigorously prosecuted and be banned from ever owning animals, if found guilty.

Further update – 25/2/16.
We have now also submitted copies of the video to all
Scottish and Welsh MEP’s, as well as to all the English MEP’s.
We are flagging all messages sent so that we can check who is / is not reading our mail.
We really hope that other EU citizens / visitors to this site are also sending copies of the video link to their own MEP(s).
We need pressure to be put on from all areas of the EU, not just the UK and Netherlands.

23/2/16 – Today (so far) we have been doing a lot of follow up work with regard the new video showing the situation for EU animals going into Turkey (a non EU nation) for slaughter. View our post and link to the video via the following.
What have we done today:
Provided copies of the video and written links on the situation to:
– All South East England Members of the European Parliament (MEP’s)
– Supplied a copy of the video to the All Party Animal Welfare Group – http://www.apgaw.org/ – About:
The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Animal Welfare (APGAW) is an all-party group made up of MPs, Peers and associate animal welfare organisations or groups with a specific interest in this area. The aim of the Group is to promote and further the cause of animal welfare by all means available to the Parliaments at Westminster and in Europe. APGAW seeks to influence the development and introduction of effective wide-ranging legislation to improve welfare and also acts as a discussion forum of politicians and welfare experts to looks at areas of concern.
All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs) have no formal place in the legislature unlike Select Committees, but are an effective way of bringing together parliamentarians and interested parties to start raising the profile on issues. APGAW chooses topics which are likely to be high profile to discuss and can then put forward ideas for improvements to the current Government. Members of the public are not able to attend APGAW meetings unless specifically invited by the Chairman but they can ask their MP to attend if they are concerned about an area of animal welfare. – http://www.apgaw.org/farm-animals

– Liaised with our friends at ‘Eyes on Animals’ http://www.eyesonanimals.com/ in the Netherlands to inform them of what we are doing to promote the video on the UK side of the North Sea.
That is this morning – this afternoon we will be supplying yet further links of the video to other UK MEP’s located around the country. Although we are in the South East of England and have already been in contact with all out MEP’s about this issue, it will do no harm to send out further copies (and express our views !) elsewhere across the country – especially as we have an In / Out EU referendum in June – we need to let the MEP’s know that we are not happy and that they need to do something or face the consequences in June. MEP’s really should only deal with concerns from their own regional constituents – hence why we have done the SE of England, where we live.
Thus we hope that may EU citizens located in many EU nations will now send a copy of the new video, and a request for action to stop the trade, to their own national / regional MEP’s.
Here are 2 links to help anyone find their own MEP’s, regardless of where they are in the EU:

Above – Lesley from EoA – Netherlands
Please write to them today. Here is a direct copy of the video link relating to EU animals stranded at the Turkish border – you must copy this link and attach it when writing to your MEP’s – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udReHkAumrY&feature=youtu.be
We are also more than happy if you wish to include some of our SAV post links with your letter. Here are the links that relate directly to this issue:
Thanks – SAV.
