we have been provided with some positive news from one of our friends.
To keep it brief, we will show you the information that we have been sent in Italics below:

After getting used to new environment, Archie will get special prostheses with which he will be able to walk. – said Natasa Vukmirovic, president of the association LJUDI ZA ŽIVOTINJE (HUMANS FOR ANIMALS).

So fingers crossed that everything is still going well for Archie and that he has found help and a safe new home with care in Italy. We want to thank Desanka for taking time out to give us an update of the situation.
This positive news has also been sent to our contact in Sweden who first contacted us with concerns, asking if Archie had been returned to the streets. In a private e mail we said that we thought this would be very unlikely given the seriousness of his injuries; and from what we now know, this was the case and hopefully all is still good for Archie.

Goal: Stop the horrific killing of dogs to control their population on an island that is a popular tourist destination.
A video has emerged showing the full extent of the barbaric methods used to control the dog population on the island of Mauritius. In the video men drag the dogs into a cement enclosure, step on their necks, and puncture their hearts with lethal injections. The other dogs in the enclosure try to desperately scramble up the walls to escape meeting the same fate, but all of them are eventually killed.
The video is difficult to watch. There is no anesthetic used on the animals to dull their suffering. They panic as they watch other dogs stand up, stagger, painfully convulse, and die in contorted heaps on the cement floor.
Officials want to control the population of dogs on the island to keep it appealing to the tourists that love to flock to there to bask in the sun and enjoy the sandy beaches. Tourists are unaware of the torment being wrought on these dogs. Perhaps, if they knew, they wouldn’t be so eager to visit.
There are other more humane ways to control the dog population. They could implement a spay and neuter program, which would prevent the current generation from having more puppies. This solution would be effective without being cruel.
Sign this petition to stop the slaughter of these dogs and encourage the government of Mauritius to implement a more humane way of dealing with the dog population.

We are putting out an appeal for information for one of our supporters in Sweden. Can you help us ?
Back in August 2011 we posted the following on the (SAV) site about a dog named ‘Archie’ who had 2 of his legs chopped off by somebody. Why ? – probably because he was a stray that they hated.
On behalf of our Swedish supporter, we are trying to find out any current news on Archie. Is he still alive ?; is he being cared for somewhere ? – is he now at a shelter ? – if so, who and where ?
We are just trying to get any news we can so we can pass on – good or bad.
We have never been given any updates from anyone despite trying to publicise the cruelty and suffering that this poor dog endured at the time in August 2011.
If you do have any info, please give it to us through the ‘Contact’ tab which is at the top of the page.

Making It Up To Animals: China Finally Accepts Cruelty-Free Cosmetic Testing

In a major victory for lab animals, China has finally accepted the first non-animal testing method for cosmetics.
This breakthrough can be attributed to the scientists at the Institute for In Vitro Sciences (IIVS)–a non-profit institution focused on developing non-animal research methods–who have developed a 3T3 Phototoxicity method that measures a chemical’s potential harm by exposing it to light rather than injecting or applying it onto rabbits, mice, or other lab animals.
This practice is already in widespread use throughout the U.S. and the E.U., but soon, for the first time ever, the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) will recognize the cruelty-free data as acceptable for safety evaluations of cosmetic ingredients.
The institution’s groundbreaking work began with a grant from PETA after the animal rights group exposed China’s requirements for cosmetics tests in 2012. The scientsits have since traveled to China several times over the past four years to offer expertise and guidance regarding animal testing alternatives.
In 2010, China surpassed the U.S. as the largest manufacturer of consumer goods in the world. But since the Chinese government currently requires all cosmetic companies to pay for cruel animal experiments in order to sell imported and specialty cosmetic products in China, this makes it extremely difficult for cruelty-free companies in the U.S. to sell their products internationally.
“The anticipated publication by CFDA is an extremely important step for China,” co-founder and president of IIVS Erin Hill says. “It clearly demonstrates China’s commitment to modernize their testing requirements and reduce their reliance on animal models.”
Fortunately, this newly accepted testing method will spare thousands of animals from lives of pain and suffering.
“Some U.S. cosmetics companies sold out when they quietly paid for tests on animals in China, but now, there will be a little less suffering in Chinese laboratories and a little less blood on corporate hands,” Kathy Guillermo, PETA’s senior vice president, said in a statement.
IIVS is currently in the process of developing training programs to assist scientists in China as they begin using the new testing method. Once the CFDA officially publishes the scientists’ work, the non-animal alternative can be used to determine the safety of cosmetics, personal care products, and other individual ingredients.
A statement from PETA reads:
“PETA is proud to have contributed to this effort, and congratulates the scientists at IIVS for their critical work helping to end the Chinese government’s requirements for tests on animals for cosmetics.”
We applaud all of those involved in putting an end to animal testing in China, and we hope all cosmetic companies will adopt cruelty-free testing methods.

Goal: Denounce the murdering of exotic animals as “trophies” by presidential candidate’s sons.
In a series of sickening photos, Donald Trump’s two sons pose next to the bodies of murdered elephants, big cats, and other exotic animals they shot and killed. Trump himself supports his sons’ participation in cruel trophy hunting, stating that “They love it.”
The “Trump Trophy Hunters” have taken photos posing with the dead bodies of several exotic animals, including an African elephant, a leopard, a crocodile and a buffalo. In the photo with the dead elephant, one of the sons held up the elephant’s bloody tail that he cut off as some sort of sick trophy.
The Trumps have so far gotten off completely free for their murderous treatment of endangered exotic animals. The fact that they not only kill these beautiful creatures, but then take horrifying photos with the dead bodies, is completely sick and twisted. There’s no way this can carry on. Demand the Trump family stop slaughtering rare and exotic animals.

Your sons, Donald, Jr. and Eric, have taken photos posing with the dead bodies of endangered exotic animals, including an African elephant, a leopard, a crocodile, and a buffalo, as if they should be proud of the awful murders they’ve committed. You yourself have defended their exotic animal hunting, saying “My sons love to hunt. They are hunters, Eric is a hunter and I would say he puts it on a par with golf, if not ahead of golf. My other son, Don, is a hunter. They’re great marksmen, great shots, they love it.”
“Trophy” hunting is a cruel and archaic practice, especially when it targets endangered species. We cannot have a presidential nominee who supports the slaughter of helpless animals. Please change your position on trophy hunting and urge your family to stop murdering animals now.

We have said time and time again that (from our perspective as animal welfare campaigners and EU citizens) the EU needs to have a ‘big wake up’ regarding the implementation of existing welfare laws, and ensuring that current existing laws and EU Regulations are fully complied with by all member states. What do we get in return ? – Mr. Van Goethem turns round and informs us that he and the others in ‘EU animal welfare Ltd’ can do nothing when presented with endless video evidence (especially from Lesley at EoA) of the untold suffering of EU animals exported for example, to Turkey.
NL: The Situation In Turkey Gets No Better – In Fact Even Worse. Blame Mr Van Goethem And His In Effective Team At The EU.

Therefore, with their endless ignorance of daily issues involving the suffering of live animals across the EU, is it any surprise that many citizens across the EU are acting as per the following article below ?
Citizens of the EU want the EU to act and take firm, decisive action against those who do not comply, not simply adopting the Van Goethem attitude of hands up and ‘I can do nothing’ as we have seen and heard on so many occasions.
It is the Van Goethem inaction, and others like him at the EU that have formulated the utter mess that the EU currently finds itself in ?. They don’t listen to the welfare groups who have experience and evidence first hand. Instead, they sit behind their big desks, in air conditioned offices in Brussels, bleating on about how they (the EU), can do nothing despite all the supposed Regulations and non compliant video evidence presented to them.
It is enough really to make you say ‘we told you so a long time ago; you did nothing, and now you start to pay the price’.
We have no problem at all with other existing EU nations following the way of the UK and undertaking their own ‘EU exit’. The EU has failed the animal welfare campaigners of Europe for a long time, and will always continue to do so under the current ‘management’. Who, in all the member states, really wants to pay into a ‘club’ when the very same club is presented with endless law breaking evidence of non compliances of existing EU Regulations and then does nothing to take any action against the law breakers ?
Please read the article below and see what the hands up, do nothing approach of Mr Van Goethem and others in EU central office has now resulted in.
We told them a long time ago to act in defence of animals; they did not listen and furthermore did not act – now they must face their self inflicted demise !

Another critic of the EU, the leader of Poland’s ruling party, said that the UK referendum result shows the need for reform of the EU.
“The conclusion is obvious. We need a new European treaty,” said Jaroslaw Kaczynski, who heads the Law and Justice party.
“We need a positive reaction, and not persistent movement in the same direction, a direction which has led to crisis,” he added.

Foreign ministers of the founding EU states met in Berlin yesterday to try to revive the shattered confidence in the European Union.
The German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier, said: “We cannot rush into hectic activity, pretending we have all the answers, but after the British decision we also cannot fall into depression and inactivity.”

Today, November 5th is known in England as ‘Bonfire Night’.
Across the land, large fires are lit and firework displays take place to commemorate an event in ol’ London town from the year 1605.
Guy Fawkes is also known as
“the last man to enter Parliament with honest intentions“
– many today would still say this is very true !
As we, the English say – “remember, remember, the 5th of November – a gunpowder treason and plot; there is no reason why gunpowder treason should ever be forgot”.
Why ? – to celebrate the ‘Gunpowder plot’ –
or ‘Guy Fawkes night’.
The Gunpowder Plot of 1605, in earlier centuries often called the Gunpowder Treason Plot or the Jesuit Treason, was a failed assassination attempt against King James I of England and VI of Scotland by a group of provincial English Catholics led by Robert Catesby.
The plan was to blow up the House of Lords during the State Opening of England’s Parliament on 5 November 1605, as the prelude to a popular revolt in the Midlands during which James’s nine-year-old daughter, Princess Elizabeth, was to be installed as the Catholic head of state.
Guy Fawkes, who had 10 years of military experience fighting in the Spanish Netherlands in suppression of the Dutch Revolt, was given charge of the explosives.
The plot was revealed to the authorities in an anonymous letter sent to William Parker, 4th Baron Monteagle, on 26 October 1605. During a search of the House of Lords at about midnight on 4 November 1605, Fawkes was discovered guarding 36 barrels of gunpowder—enough to reduce the House of Lords to rubble—and arrested. Most of the conspirators fled from London as they learned of the plot’s discovery, trying to enlist support along the way. Several made a stand against the pursuing Sheriff of Worcester and his men at Holbeche House; in the ensuing battle Catesby was one of those shot and killed. At their trial on 27 January 1606, eight of the survivors, including Fawkes, were convicted and sentenced to be hanged, drawn and quartered.
A gruesome death
To be hanged, drawn and quartered was from 1351 a statutory penalty in England for men convicted of high treason, although the ritual was first recorded during the reigns of King Henry III (1216–1272) and his successor, Edward I (1272–1307).
Convicts were fastened to a hurdle, or wooden panel, and drawn by horse to the place of execution, where they were hanged (almost to the point of death),emasculated, disembowelled, beheaded and quartered (chopped into four pieces). Their remains were often displayed in prominent places across the country, such as London Bridge. For reasons of public decency, women convicted of high treason were instead burned at the stake.
SAV Comment – many people were behind the views of Guy Fawkes and the other conspirators – he was an explosives expert for his time. His actions were betrayed by a letter sent in secret.
There is a saying in England today – “Come back Guy Fawkes; all is forgiven !”. With the political system as it is now, many feel the need for a major overhaul of the system.
