Tell Bumble Bee Tuna to Stop Killing Sharks

Sign the Petition to

Chris Lischewski, CEO of Bumble Bee Foods

Millions of sharks are killed by tuna vessels every year — as bycatch or from illegal shark finning practices.

Major companies like Bumble Bee have a responsibility to ensure that its products do not come with the hidden cost of millions of dead sharks.

We both know that policies banning shark finning, including the guidelines of the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF), are not enough. Unless your company can publicly prove all aspects of your supply chain including the independent vessels that you buy fish from are not finning sharks, those guidelines become meaningless.

I am requesting that Bumble Bee takes the following steps to ensure its tuna is legal and sustainable:

(1) Stop relying on wire leaders – which are unnecessary for catching tuna but ensure high rates of shark bycatch — and stop using transshipment at sea, which allows tuna boats to hide illegal practices. Bumble Bee takes steps to ensure that its tuna is not caught at the expense of dwindling shark populations. (2) Provide living wages for fishermen.

Thank you.

Signed,

Greenpeace

How this will help

Every year, millions of sharks are killed every year only for their fins. All so they can be sold in soups served at expensive restaurants and fancy weddings.

The shark fin trade is cruel,…

The basic story:

baby deer 3

The baby deer was saved by Mrs dragana Mitic, and was kept at her home where it was safe and cared for.

Video link:

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-AiXWWqCtdFbkxtbWwzTFFqcFU/edit?usp=drive_web>

But the Police inspector in that village of Cicevac on 1.8.2014 undertook the unlawful assistance to local hunters; assistance which is against the Serbian laws for animal protection.

With police assistance, the hunters took the baby deer from Mrs Dragana Mitic. Now the deer is being held by the hunters.

Mrs Mitic has visited the deer and it is now very poorly and sick; it is very hungry and is being kept in a very bad place.  Nobody where the deer is now being held is providing it with food; it is being given bad milk and Mrs Mitic feels that possibly the hunters will either kill the baby deer or will let it die so that they can eat it !

The Police officer of the village at Cicevac has personally acted in opposition to Serbian laws, and as the hunters do not appear to have registered the deer – they too have acted illegally.

If Mrs Mitic gets the deer back at her property, she can register the deer officially and would receive official Ministry approval very easily.

Complaints about this illegal situation and the illegal work of local police needs to be made public and given to the Minister and Director of the Serbian police – contact details are as follows:

факс 011 313-98-87

E-mail: milorad.veljovic@mup.gov.rs, dp@mup.gov.rs

The deer will only eat when it is fed properly by Mrs Mitic; as it knows her and knows that she is caring for it and trying to help it become a strong animal.

People of Serbia especially, please call the Serbian police now on the above numbers and get the deer taken away from the hunters and returned to Mrs Mitic.

Ask that the local police be prosecuted under Article 269 of Serbian law for illegally giving support to the local hunters by taking the animal away from Mrs Mitic.  In addition the local police have acted against the Serbian national laws for the police by supporting the hunters and not Mrs Mitic.

Please call the police immediately – thank you.

In Subject I have stated: “The case of the baby deer did in village of Cicevac on 08.01.2014″!

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have been informed about the case of the baby deer in that village of Cicevac on 1.8.2014 trough de website Serbian Animals Voice.
I ask for your Supports.
The Serbian police must get the deer away from the hunters and return it to Mrs Mitic.
NOW!
The local police should be prosecuted under Article 269 of Serbian law for illegally giving support to the local hunters by taking the animal away from Mrs Mitic.

The deer will only eat when it is feed properly by Mrs Mitic; as he knows her and he knows that she is caring for him and trying to help him become a strong animal.

Eyes on Animals do the most amazing work for our farm animals. Checking exports, long distance journeys, horse markets, slaughterhouses, training.  Without them I fear our animals would endure more suffering. The work they have done alone in Turkish slaughterhouses is something no one else has managed to achieve. Whilst there are still major problems with welfare out there they have managed to get access to slaughterhouses and offer advice on providing better welfare for all. http://www.eyesonanimals.com/

They are up for a very important Award and if they won they could get up to 75,000 Euro which would do wonders for this incredible charity.

If you would like to vote for them please follow the instructions below (every click counts!):

Dear friends, EonA is participating in a contest. If enough people vote for us, we could win up to 75,000 euro for the organization. This is enough to finance all of our work for 1 year! The contest is held in Holland, but anyone can vote. The problem is that the instructions are in Dutch, so our volunteer-fundraiser Charlotte kindlz translated how it works into English so our good anglophone friends, like you, can also help 🙂 It only takes a few minutes to read the intructions and then vote- I hope you can help. If you can also encourage your friends to vote that would be very appreciated too. THANK YOU and keeping my fingers crossed. EonA could really use the money- we want to hire more help and get more done this year than ever before!

BUAV Thunderclap

https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/14674-save-kittens-in-laboratories?dm_i=LN3,2OYBQ,6TX2F5,9TYA4,1

On the 8th of August, cat lovers around the world will celebrate a day dedicated to all things fantastic and fascinating about felines.

There will be homes up and down the UK where cats and kittens are lucky enough to spend their lives protected by the security of a loving family.

Sadly, behind other closed doors – not of homes but of laboratories – there will also be many other cats and kittens suffering in silence. This time last year, one of our investigators, Suzie, was undercover at a MSD Animal Health laboratory and reflects on the time she spent with the kittens used in research. Please read her words and take action to stop this suffering by signing up to our Thunderclap for World Cat Day to raise vital awareness about the investigation and to end these cruel and unnecessary practices.

“Last year I was working undercover at MSD Animal Health and got to know many kittens during my time there, including Ben, Blackberry, Max, Otto, Rollie, Pollie, Simba, Toby, Thomas and George. They were all inquisitive, sweet little kittens, just like the cats so many of us share our homes with.

But sadly these kittens never saw the sky, breathed fresh air or felt the grass beneath their feet. Instead they were used and re-used in experiments and their precious lives terminated. I think about them often  and although we can’t save them, we can save others. Please take action and sign and share our petition today.

The first group of 15 kittens arrived on 13th May 2013 and – without knowing any life outside a laboratory – were killed on 22nd August 2013; their little bodies dissected and then dumped in a bin as waste. They were just 6 months old.

I feel terribly sad for the loss of those 15 little lives. These animals should have been in a loving home, spending their time playing and exploring. They should not have suffered and died in a laboratory. Please take action in their memory today. Action you take really does make a difference to the animals and together we can unite to end the suffering I had to see”.

Please share this message far and wide today.

Thank you.

Earlier this year, a BUAV investigation uncovered the shocking killing of kittens BORN TO DIE in a UK laboratory.

Ben, Blackberry, Max, Otto, Rollie, Pollie, Simba, Toby, Thomas, George.  Inquisitive, sweet little kittens, just like the cats so many of us share our homes with.

But these poor little kittens were tragically born to die at MSD Animal Health, their precious lives terminated after just a few weeks.  They never got to know the love of a human family, the joy of playing outside.  They never saw the sky, breathed fresh air or felt the grass beneath their feet.

Instead they were used and re-used again in experiments.

The kittens arrived at MSD Animal Health at just 8 weeks old, imported from Spain.  At just 10 weeks old staff started taking blood from them, sticking needles into their tiny veins.  Taking blood was a slow process and some of the kittens became distressed.

During the experiments, some of the kittens had ulcers on their tongues or lips. One was lame on her front right foot. Some were subdued while others had lost weight or suffered from very high temperatures of over 41 degrees.

On 22nd August 2013, 15 kittens were killed.  They were less than 6 months old.  Their little bodies dissected and then dumped in a bin as waste.

Please help the BUAV end the appalling killing of kittens, puppies and other animals BORN TO DIE in UK laboratories.

Serbia: Latest News UPDATE 2/8/14 – Subotica Mayor Rejects Cancellation of Memorandum Regarding Animal Treatment. Petition Continues.

Serbian Flag

Our original post on this issue can be viewed at:

https://serbiananimalsvoice.com/2014/07/24/serbia-please-ensure-you-sign-the-petition-now-asking-the-mayor-of-subotica-city-to-cancel-the-memorandum-regarding-animal-treatment-petition-link-given-please-crosspost/

The latest update (un edited) from Andrea is as follows:

Mayor responded with a NO – he won’t cancel the Memorandum. Dear supporters of this petition, On July 28 we received the response from the Mayor. He wrote that he stands behind every line of Memorandum and it won’t be changed, nor cancelled.

He also wrote that it is an Act signed in order to improve relation, development and cooperation between two sides (City and NGO “Anima”) and its purpose is not aimed at regulating a particular area – in this case the activity of zoohygiene.
He then noted the Acts of City Subotica which closely regulate this specified field. As for the CNR program, he states it was listed as an option in the Memorandum in case there are no possibilities to accommodate all captured dogs in the city asylum; and is not listed as a solution to the problem of stray cats and dogs.
He admits there is a problem of irresponsible owners but that is not the subject of Memorandum.
In the end he said he is open to cooperation and invites us to continue to participate in solving the problem of stray animals.

Ironic, isn’t it?

Personal remark  –  I have to point out is the whole purpose of this Memorandum “development and cooperation between the City and a particular NGO”. If it’s not providing the solution to this problem, what’s the point in having this Memorandum and why it is not including all NGOs who will then cooperate (in full meaning of that word) to provide ultimate solution that will benefit both the animals & the citizens of this town?

What we did next is we sent the letter to the Mayor – again.

“Association for the Protection of Animals “Pets Are Worth Saving”, “EPAR – OIPA SERBIA / Alliance for the Conservation of nature, animal rights and the rights of people, and the Society for the Protection of Animals “Alex”, Shelter Alex hereby inform that we stand by our Request for the cancellation of Memorandum because it is completely ineffective and in its crucial part promotes illegal treatment of dogs and cats in Subotica, as well as public money and personal money of sincere donors. The same does not obligate anyone to anything nor is followed by anyone’s responsibility. We also expand our Request and demand the cancellation of sections 6 and 7 in the part of ‘measures’ for the implementation of the Program for the control and reduction of stray cats and dogs population because they are in contradiction with sections 2 and 3 of the Article 7 of the Animal Welfare Act, which is valid from 10.06.2009., without delay.”

The petition will remain open, so please continue to sign and share it on all social networks you use.

I will update you on further happenings.

TELL PRESIDENT OBAMA TO STOP THE NAVY’S ASSAULT ON WHALES!

The U.S. Navy is conducting exercises that could kill nearly 1,000 whales and other marine mammals during the next five years of testing and training with dangerous sonar and explosives. With one stroke of his pen, President Obama can end the Navy’s senseless attack on whales — without compromising military readiness. Urge President Obama to help secure his environmental legacy and save countless marine mammals from needless suffering and death.

Petition Wording:

Make Your Voice Heard!

Your message will be sent to:

President Barack Obama

Subject line:

Protect whales from deadly sonar and explosives

Dear President Obama

I was sickened to learn that the U.S. Navy’s use of sonar and explosives during routine training and testing continues to needlessly kill whales and dolphins. Just this April, beaked whales mass-stranded and died — for the fourth time — on the beaches of Greece during U.S. Navy joint exercises offshore. Over the next five years, the Navy itself estimates that its exercises along the Atlantic Coast and off Southern California and Hawaii could cause nearly 1,000 deaths and inflict thousands of cases of permanent hearing loss and organ damage.

I refuse to accept that this is the best your administration can do. Your Fisheries Service has pledged to do more to protect whales and dolphins from Navy activities. Instead it has authorized the Navy to inflict an unprecedented level of harm on marine mammals.

As Commander in Chief, you have the power to end this deadly assault on whales with one stroke of your pen. Please direct the Navy and the Fisheries Service to immediately put vital marine mammal habitats off-limits to sonar and explosives.

Don’t let your administration go down in history as the one that turned its back on whales and dolphins.

Please act now to protect them.
