Macedonia: Vardarishte Animal Holding Facility – New Letter to Mail – Please ACT NOW !

In order that we keep up pressure on the authorities of Macedonia with regard the situation at the Vardarishte animal holding facility, Skopje; we ask please that you copy the following sample letter and send to all contacts given in the block listing below.

Honorable Officials, Gentlemen, Ladies,

Citizens all around the world are shocked and appalled. We have heard of the horrors committed against stray animals in Macedonia and are shocked by the violence and killing of animals that happen on a daily basis in Macedonia, mainly in Skopje, in the holding facility Vardarishte.

We are shocked by the cruelty of your institutions, which are paid to deal humanely with the problem of homeless animals, to engage and to conduct the CNR program, the only successful program in the world that is appropriate for a normal and civilized country. But instead, dogs are persistently killed, neutered dogs have been caught and never released, for which there is no justification.

Thanks to the internet, the whole world already knows the stories about the concentration camp Vardarishte, a holding facility that is open only six hours a week, on Friday and Saturday from 9-12h, the whole world knows that the dog catchers, until recently, were hunters and delinquents. That they used to kill dogs on the streets, with guns and received a financial reward. They now do the same, hidden in the rooms of Vardarishte.

We know and we have seen that the animals there have hideous living conditions, we have seen that official statistical data indicates 60% dog killing, but the real bloody number is hidden.

We know and we have seen that veterinarians are engaged to kill, not to sterilize – your people are not blind and you cannot deceive the rest of the world!

The Mayor of Skopje has proven himself, like nobody before, to be cruel, brutal, blind to the sufferings of animals, deaf to the calls of its citizens.

You cannot deceive us, nor the Macedonian population, that he is not behind the killings, because he is the one who closed the facility to the public, he is the one who hired new dog catchers and killers, forbad volunteers taking pictures in Vardarishte. Let’s not lie to each other, we know it all. Shame on the Mayor! Shame on the Macedonian officials who allow these inhumane conditions and treatment of animals!

We are urgently asking for this to be stopped and that the holding facility of death to be closed, because it is a bloody stain on your city, your country, your face!

You cannot hide the truth – it is everywhere, and here we are, the advocates for animal rights, to testify in order that these unfortunate, poor souls not be forgotten!

We demand that veterinary authorities respond and close these shelters of fear, despair, disease and death.

There can be no justification whatsoever for ignoring these facts! There can be no justification for remaining silent!

I urge to take immediate action to put an end to these horrors.

Serbia: Loznica Again – Female Dog Saved From Being Buried Alive – Proof of the Killings Done by the City Shinters – Bodies Dumped Openly on the City Dump Adjacent to the Animal Pound

New pictures in from Loznica show the brutal killing of a dog which has been done by local shinters.

The pictures are from the local animal protection group – ‘Lunja’.

The first photo shows a little female dog which was wrapped up in a closed sack. Shinters told the member of ‘Lunja’ animal welfare that the dog was dead and that is why she was in the sack.

But Rada from ‘Lunja’ managed to get the sack and open it, only to find a live little dog inside, as you can see.

It was clear to Rada that the shinters had wrapped the little dog in the sack and that they were intending to go and bury her alive. This is typical of the mindless thugs that are employed by the authorities and who are commonly known as shinters.

The other pictures below which are also sent by ‘Lunja’ are of a dog which was not so fortunate and was again killed in a terrible way by shinters. One cannot imagine what a terrible death this dog must have had at the hands of the shinters.

Finally, this picture shows a male dog who died at the Loznica city pound. Inspection has shown that there was no veterinary care undertaken on the animal before it died.

Uk: Anyone for Tennis ? – Old Balls Used for Preservation of Harvest Mice in Leics and Rutland.

Harvest mice in Leicestershire get tennis ball homes

Around 200 balls are being made available

Old tennis balls are being used to help research and preservation of harvest mice in Leicestershire and Rutland.

The county council, concerned about the decline in numbers, has prepared around 200 balls with penny-sized holes for the mice to nest in.

Members of the public are being encouraged to report sightings of the creatures so records can be built up.

It is thought a change in farming methods has led to the mice losing their habitats.

‘Safeguard future’

The project is believed to be one of the biggest of its kind ever run in Leicestershire.

County Council wildlife expert, Helen O’Brien, said: “Little is known about the creatures’ current status locally so we need people to look in tall grass and fields and send in their information.

“The data will help us track numbers and tell us where we need to focus our attention to safeguard their future.”

The balls, donated by a local tennis club, are available for surveyors to distribute and monitor.

Anybody interested in taking part in the scheme can attend a training day at the county councils’s environmental resource centre in Birstall on 14 June.

Serbia: Loznica City – Further ‘Rabies Necessary’ Killings By Hunters and Shinters Acting Under Orders From Government.

The veterinary investigation shows that the dog in the photographs below was beaten, that both his front legs were violently fractured.
The main cause of his death was suffocation due to being hung as shown, – in public – in the park where he has lived since he was sterilised.

The activist who cared for this dog is in hospital with a heart condition after witnessing this to the animal which he looked after. And why the killing ? – allegedly because of rabies – all strays must be killed.

Pictures have just arrived from Loznica, where a dog belonging to a local animal welfare activist has been killed. It is suspected that either shinters or hunters did this.

The man who saw this done to his dog has had to be taken to hospital with heart problems.

The ‘official’ answer to this from Zvonimir Rot ,on behalf of Mr. Micovic states that the killing of dogs and cats is necessary as a method of prevention and the dispersion of rabies. It continues that dogs and cats must be killed immediately on the streets in areas where rabies is present.

Поводом појаве беснила на Вашој територији и упућеног дописа у име Др Зорана Мићовића желим да вaс обавестим следеће:
Поштујући Закон о ветеринарству и Правилник о утврђивању мера за рано откривање, дијагностику, спречавање ширења, сузбијања и искорењивања заразне болести беснила и начину њиховог спровођења, када се на основу дијагностичког испитивања потврди присуство болести, Министар пољопривреде, шумарства и водопривреде доноси Решење о проглашењу зараженог и угроженог подручја и налаже мере у истим.
Као једна од мера налаже се лишавање живота паса и мачака луталица, што је у складу и са Законом о добробити животиња који прописује, да се ради спречавања ширења, сузбијања и искорењивања заразних болести животиње могу лишити живота, чак и на јавним местима.
Све друге мере се односе на власничке псе и мачке.

На основу члана 6. Закона о ветеринарству власник, односно држаоц животиња је дужан да се стара о здрављу и добробити животиња и да предузме све мере заштите здравља животиња ради спречавања појаве и ширења заразних болести животиња и зооноза. Беснило је нарочито опасна заразна болест и зооноза. Као мера спречавања ширења ове болести обавезна је вакцинација паса и мачака, старијих од три месеца, и касније ревакцинација на годишњем нивоу. Тако се једино може спречити ланац преношења вируса са дивљих животиња, у овом случају лисица, на псе и мачке, и наравно на људе. Животиње познатих власника, осим што имају познати здравствени статус на беснило, у зараженом и угроженом подручју морају имати и контролисано кретање, тако што се мачке држе у безбедно ограђеном простору, а пси при извођењу у шетњу морају ићи на повоцу и са брњицом.

Пси и мачке луталице, осим што имају непознат здравствени статус, њихово кретање нити је могло нити може бити праћено, те веома лако могу бити преносиоци болести ако дођу у контакт са бесном лисицом, те је стручно и оправдано лишити живота те животиње.

У циљу искорењивања ове болести, и уз помоћ предприступних (ИПА) фондова Европске Уније, почело се са реализацијом вишегодишњег пројекта оралне вакцинације лисица.

Борба са беснилом је тешка и дуготрајна, али Управа за ветерину спроводи све законске и стручне мере како би била и успешна и са што мање последица по здравље и добробит животиња, а наравно и самих људи у околини.

This female dog was killed by having wood inserted into her vagina.

Her body was thrown into the local pound at Loznica city.

It is thought that this act is one of revenge by hunters.

Australia: Please Support (see below) – The City of Fremantle has Called for Live Animal Exports to be Phased Out During the Next Five Years.

Live animal exports are an issue which I feel incredibly strongly about. It is my No.1 campaign issue which continues in parallel with the work I undertake for SAV.

I have been part of the Uk activist / investigation / monitoring system aginst live animal exports from the Uk for over 20 years now. The number of calves, sheep, pigs and horses that I have seen on the road and at Uk ports, ready for export, now runs into the millions, literally.

Over the last year, Uk activists have finally achieved what has only ever been a dream – to completely stop the export of ALL live animals from the Uk to mainland Europe; animals which have always gone for slaughter and further fattening.

It is a massive achievement and I am proud to have played a part. As the EU Correspondent for an anti live export organisation here in the Uk, our submissions to the EU on our investigation work has played a key role in getting us to where we are now. There are some great investigators and groups in mainland Europe who are continuing to highlight the abuse suffered by animals undergoing long distance transportation:

When you either see, hear or smell live animal exports, you want to get them stopped. When you witness all together, you rage and the want becomes and obsession. The right obsession; to free animals from cruelty and abuse when travelling to their deaths.

I am writing to you regarding the live export of millions of Australian animals for slaughter.

These animals endure long and gruelling road and sea journeys which many do not survive. In the sheep export trade to the Middle East, tens of thousands of sheep die on the way every year.

Despite industry claims to the contrary, the barbaric handling and slaughter of Australian animals on arrival in countries with little or no animal protection legislation is widespread and ongoing.

As a nation with high animal welfare standards, Australian animals deserve better.

I am glad the City of Fremantle has called for live animal exports to be phased out in the next five years and would like to give my full support. Spain: Bull Gets Revenge Before It Dies

THIS pic shows a Spanish matador being gored by a bull.

Veteran bullfighter Julio Aparicio stumbles and falls to the ground, then the bull charges him.

The bull’s horn enters Aparicio’s throat and protrudes through his mouth, during the fight at Plaza de Toros las Ventas bullring as part of the San Isidro Festival in Madrid.

Apricio is in hospital in a critical condition.

Serbia: 18/05/10 – New Photographs of Loznica Pound Animal Killings and Conditions at City Dump. No Wonder Stray Animals Are Attracted !!

In the following photographs you can see the location of the city pound / shelter for stray animals. Convenient, as it is adjacent to the city dump, the place where a lot of the dead strays seem to end up.

The Animal Protection Society from Loznica city has obtained information that the building which is shown in the photographs, the ‘shelter’ for homeless animals, –

has been provided with 14 million dinars + for animal welfare.

The photographs have been supplied by the people of Loznica city. It is alleged that the fencing around the shelter has been partly destroyed in order that some of the animals held at the shelter can escape; only to then be killed by hunters from the area. One of the photographs shows used gun cartridges as used by the hunters.

A used hunters cartridge lies in the waste.

A hunters ‘target’ which survived the ordeal – but since killed ???

We are including also many pictures of dogs (ex strays which have been captured and sent to the shelter, only then to escape via the destroyed fencing and become a hunters target).

The President of the local hunters society, which we are informed is called ‘Gucevo’, has said that the pound / shelter is ‘located in the hunters area, and so the hunters have the right to kill the animals’ !!
