Further donations can still be given even if the target amount has been reached.

Cicko, the cat and 10 puppies

Hello!!
As always, no day is boring in the shelter “Alex”.
The summer heat and temperatures above 30C are not easing the work in the shelter.

Two days ago, we we were notified about the cat that is in a poor health state.
We named him ‘Cicko’.

After examination by a veterinarian it was found that the problem with his eye is congenital, so now we are only cleaning and lubricating it. The upper front teeth are broken, and on his back there is an older burn that heals and looks like a cigarette burn.
Cicko is very cuddly, and as soon as someone looks at him, he immediately starts purring and really trusts people despite of everything he has been through. Since he has no upper front teeth, it is difficult to assess how old he is, but according to the veterinarian he has about 1.5 years.
When Cicko fully heals he will be given up for adoption, and we hope someone will come and offer him a home full of love and attention.

About 2 weeks ago 8 puppies (above) were left in front of the shelter in a cardboard box. We took them, cleaned them, vaccinated them and with the food and lots of puppy fun they are really doing well. Since then 2 more pups were found and now we have 10 of them.
They all need good homes and we hope they will find them.
In the meantime we really need your help to buy food (especially canned food and salami) and to buy the building materials for the maintenance of the shelter, building of new dog houses and fixing of kennels. Please, please, share our appeals so that shelter “Alex” can continue in taking care of its 500 dogs.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Dear friends,
I know that summer is usually a very lean time of year for donations, but the needs of the kitties certainly don’t slow down.
Over the last month we’ve barely managed to raise enough funds to purchase wet canned cat food to cover 10 days, which means we’re running into debt yet again. With or without donations, we certainly can’t let the cats starve but our personal funds unfortunately are not unlimited.

Four new platforms and three ladders that we needed to replace the rotten ones in the yard are currently being built, but this time everything will be solid and durable; all of the platforms will have metal legs and we expect them to last a long time.
Although the meteoalarm has been raised to “red“ in Serbia and the extreme heat will continue for days, we have just had the cats’ huge outdoor sandbox enclosed with a brick wall and little by little, we’re trying to make the living space of our kitties as comfortable as possible.
But the fact we’re not crying out for help on a daily basis doesn’t mean we don’t need it – on the contrary, we do and very badly.
Please, consider supporting our work with whatever you can afford! Any contribution you’re able to make, no matter how small, will be gratefully received!

CITY ADMINISTRATION LOZNICA:

Mrs. Vesna Stefanovic
Mr. Zoran Erić – načelnik inspekcijske komunalne delatnost
Republički vet inspektor je

Please copy and send the sample letter below to all of the following:
EMAIL ADDRESSES:

SAMPLE LETTER
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
In spite of the city administration’s public denials there is irrefutable evidence that the animal shelter in Loznica is a place of sheer horror.
It is massively overcrowded – the space originally designed for 100 – max 150 dogs is now housing around 300 dogs – and members of the current staff resort to the most brutal treatment to keep the animals under control – from hitting them with shovels, stomping to death newborn puppies, pushing water pipes down the dogs throats and turning on the water fully, so the dogs almost choke to death to an alcoholic warden who relishes in mistreating the animals.
Thrice too many dogs are crammed into the shelter, unneutered males and females are mating, animals are malnourished, fresh water is scarce, animals fighting for their survival are being bitten, injured, left to die or killed by their fellow creatures. Dead dogs lying around among other dogs and puppies. Many dogs have diseases from parasites, infections are not treated and spreading. Seriously ill and injured dogs are left untreated.
All this has been regularly reported to you by the local animal rescue organisation Ljuna over years and recently documented by the independent dog trainer Mr. Bojan Stojanovic. He visited the shelter and immediately realized that the dogs are being terrorized and mistreated. The shelter staff admitted this saying they have no other way “of controlling the overcrowded shelter”. Ref. https://www.facebook.com/loznicki.psi
For years the organisation Lunja Loznica and a number of Austrian and German organisations have helped the shelter with sponsoring dog houses, vaccinations, tick treatment and medication against parasites and most of all a steady food supply.
But all requests to cooperate with the city and shelter administration and all offers for free-of-charge castrations and medical treatment of the animals have remained unanswered so far. Till yesterday a meeting with independent animal experts trying to enter into a serious conversation with the city administration has been postponed indefinitely. All the city administration of Loznica so far has offered are misrepresentation of facts and ignorance.
This is not going to improve matters. We urge all concerned to immediately exchange the brutal staff members, and enter into serious talks with all Serbian and European animal protectors who have been offering their advice and help unconditionally and free of charge. They are willing and able to provide better sanitary and medical support and are keen to improve the overall conditions in the shelter. Almost every South European country has 2.5 Million strays they need to take care of. No country can master this task alone, this is a truly European challenge. You can make a start by seriously considering to cooperate with all those who have offered help.
Member states of the EU should act better than this – your membership is currently not welcome if you continue to abuse animals as we see here. Shame on you.
We look forward to hearing from you,
(your name/organisation) …………………….
(your city) …………………………

Come on folks, we are not asking the world !
– we have got the ball rolling by over 50% – is making up the rest from animal people around the World too much to ask ?
Our Novak really has no luck at all…
We had to bring him back to the vet.. He got sick at the pansion, got high temperature, he didn’t eat for days…
At the moment he is at the vet, in the box?, receiving treatment. Vet agreed that Novak should stay in, and he will spend July in box?
Because of our unpaid debt from June, we have to pay for his treatment, flea and tick protection and his stay, because we don’t know what to do with him and where to put him..
He is a special dog, and he needs some time to adapt to changes..
Please, help us… Novak has no choice right now.. Either street, or this…
There is a third option – adopting…
Please, share and help. Novak depends on you…
More than 40 Euros can be given to this cause – the money will always be used where it is required to help suffering animals – Thank You.

With the summer heat in full swing, life at the shelter seems quite uneventful as most of the kitties are spending their days passed out all over the place, rightfully feeling it’s too hot to even move around. However, it’s not only that their needs remain the same, but now is also the time to start and finish all of the minor repairs at the shelter.

Almost all of the platforms, ladders and wooden wire spools the cats are having so much fun with while playing in the yard need to be replaced now, after being exposed to all kinds of weather over the last few years. Autumn rains and the winter cold have taken their toll and no matter how well these wooden items were protected by paint or stain, they can’t last forever. And our kitties just love them all big time!
The old outdoor fence which became wobbly three years ago is miraculously still holding up, but the posts keep crumbling and deteriorating with every passing day and it’s been ages since we could close the gates properly. It would be fabulous if this summer we could manage to raise the funds to rebuild the brick-made pillars and the small wall between them, clean and polish the old iron fence above and replace the sheet metal part of the gates. It’s got to be done this summer before the rotten posts completely fall apart and the whole fence goes down, that is…

And last but not the least, not by a long shot – the kitties must eat every day and now the time is rapidly coming for the mandatory yearly vaccinations against rabies. The problem is that donations regularly slow down as summer approaches and while we totally understand everyone’s busy planning their vacations, our situation is always unenviable at this time of year. The same thing has been happening forever; when the weather is nice, we’re barely keeping afloat, and when we have enough funds to do something, it’s impossible to work outside due to the weather conditions. We should’ve gotten used to it by now, I guess…

Anyways, if you have a little extra you could spare to help us out please do so! Even the smallest donation means a lot, as they all add up and get us closer to our goal. A three-digit number of lazy, relaxed kitties and a couple of their tired humans will be immeasurably grateful for your vital help!

Take a look at our website and our blog to see who you’re supporting!

Is there any organsiation/person out there in Loznica that can help Sina Fingerhut at the shelter or with communications with the City Mayor.
We knwo corruption is a problem – everwhere. But someone present in Loznica or near would be a great help, as Sina is running a large company and can only come once a month.
Pls advise.
Thanks and regards
Lisa

Here are the details of her association :
Sina Fingerhut / Lunja – Streunerhilfe grenzenlos e.V. Deutschland – Biburg 1, D-83410 Laufen – +49 157 32116261 – VR: 201516 / Vereinsregister / Amtsgericht Traunstein –

Details on : SINA FINGERHUT – HUMANITARIAN VET CLINIC – IN LOZNICA
Sina is a young German entrepreneur who wants to help stray animals in Serbia especially as this country is not yet in the EU. She opened a humanitarian vet clinic in Loznica – see her website www.lunj.net – to get pets castrated for free or a very low rate to reduce increase of of unwanted animals.
She has been trying to enter into an Agreement with the local animal shelter in Loznica.
She is feeding the shelter animals, taking care of some medically as far as this is allowed by the Loznica city major but cannot come to an agreement with him. He is “unavailable” no matter what she tries to reach him.
Animals whether healthy, sick, pregnant or injured are crammed into the shelter, get infected there, no fresh water, no food except what Sina and her small team bring in – recently the shelter staff have broken open the quarantine dog cages, removed the cage doors and taken out all animals without saying whereto.
There is no cooperation from the city council of Loznica whatsoever.
DO YOU KNOW ANY LOCAL ORGANISATION – ASSOCIATION – ANIMAL PROTECTORS – ANIMAL RIGHTS PEOPLE – LAWYERS you can put in touch with or name to Sina Fingerhut to help her in her fight for the shelter animals survival.
PLEASE RESPOND TO SINA URGENTLY !!! Thank you !
SAV Comment – If the City Council / Mayor are Always ‘Unavailable’ to discuss the situation, then we at SAV need to go back to our photographic records and show you exactly what the recorded situation In Loznica has been like until now. This is just a selection from our detailed records. No wonder they do not want to talk ! – they should be utterly ashamed of what corruption does. We are presenting this to the world with the hope that suddenly the mayor and City authorities may think differently and suddenly become available to discuss things !!
