On 21/05/2008 in Cyprus a distraught English resident rang Argos Sanctuary to report that a dog was tied to the balcony railings (like in the crucifixtion) of an apartment.
Argos immediately reported it to the local police and the police went to the flat but by that time the dog had been moved inside the apartment – (the tortured animal had been tied like that for 4 hours!!)  As the police found the dog inside they could not prove who it was that had tied the dog to the balcony.  The Police spoke to the dog owner and as there was not enough proof who had actually commited this terrible act, they said nothing could be done. 

Argos Sanctuary decided to take the case to court but the police closed it due to lack of evidence.  The President of Argos had a meeting on 05/08/08 with the Ministry to reopen the case and they now need your support.

This poor creature is still with the owners who subjected it to this horrific cruelty and God only knows what other acts of cruelty it has been subjected to since. 

We desperately need your support to prioritise this case so they can save this tortured animal and prosecute the owners.

Turkey: Disgusting Abuse of a Dog Thrown Alive Into Dustcart Compactor – Please Act Now !

These pictures are from the city of Van in eastern Turkey, and the tragedy going on there defies our ability to communicate in a consistent manner…. It is horrific, it is beyond words, and it is REAL. Happened today just a few hours ago…

The stray dog you see here was hit by a car 3 days ago. Its back legs were broken as a result. Nobody took it to a vet or anything – it was left to lie there in agony for 3 days. It couldn’t walk, it could only crawl after the incident. A few good citizens there in Van tried to help it, they cared for it, brought food and water so that it would survive. In the meantime, they called the authorities to come and help the poor dog. It was in excruciating pain, just begging for someone to put it out of that misery…

Three days later, the municipal authorities of Van finally showed up. Not, however, to rescue the dog. To the contrary, they came to kill the dog! In fact, the municipality did not even send a vet to the area. They sent a garbage truck and garbage collectors instead of medical assistance – the dog was nothing more than a piece of garbage to them anyway. And they did what they do best: rounded up the dog, tossed him into the garbage crusher alive and crushed him to death then and there. All the while, the dog screamed, screamed and screamed until that final blow killed it..

The municipality of Van just confirmed the incident – there is no way to deny it anyway, it has been photographed by Dogan News Agency from the beginning to the end and it took place in broad daylight in the middle of the city.

AND THIS DOG LATER ON SURVIVED…. A COUPLE OF HOURS LATER, HE WAS FOUND ALIVE AND TAKEN IN FOR SURGERY IMMEDIATELY. Miracles do happen, and it happened in this case. We hope that it will survive and make a full recovery.

WE WILL ALL PRAY FOR YOU BEAUTIFUL DOG…

No matter where you live, even if you live on the moon, condemn this horrific massacre. Express how disgusted you are with these images not just to the local authorities of Van, but to the Prime Minister of Turkey. Tell the Turkish authorities to STOP THIS BLOODY MASSACRE RIGHT NOW!

Animal Justice has been inundated with requests for further information regarding the status of the stray dog crushed in a garbage truck in the city of Van yesterday (http://www..facebook.com/album.php?aid=2009210&l=459c7&id=1271426292).

And here we have some new information for you. Unfortunately, this poor dog is half-paralyzed now, and its general condition is critical… Furthermore, there is no way to know for sure if the dog will make a full recovery or not. If it ever can, it will have to undergo a series of surgeries. However, the facilities required for these operations do not exist in the city of Van. So, this is the bad news.

The good news is that, a group of animal rights volunteers in the capital city Ankara have arranged for the dog to be operated and treated in Ankara. In a few days, the caretakers in Van will determine if the dog is stable enough to be flown to Ankara or not. When they determine that the dog is fit for travel, it will be sent to Ankara immediately, and its treatment will continue in Ankara.

Serbia: New ‘No Kill’ Poster to Print and Display to the World

Let the World know that the Serbian Government and Ministries are still ignoring international requests to undertake a national No Kill Sterilisation, Vaccination, Microchipping and Identification programme for stray animals.

to immediately stop all killings and to immediately abolish Pravilnik 29/94 legislation for the killing of cats and dogs (see the PUBLIC NOTICE in the link), one month later as of 5th November it has STILL NOT been abolished and is still being used to justify animal killings.

Until Pravilnik 29/94 is removed from legislation, and the government formally announces and shows this to the media, our campaign for justice and the humane treatment of all stray animals in serbia will continue.

Serbia: Once Again, Serbian politicians Show utter Contempt for Animals and Animal Welfare – PLEASE READ AND ACT !!

From calls given last night, the animal welfare organization ‘SNUPI’ in Mladenovac city is currently having very urgent problems.

 

THE DOG SHELTER SNUPI IS IN VERY BIG DANGER.

 

The President of  Mladenovac city, Mr. Jovanovic said today to the President of SNUPI – Mr. Danijel Blagojeci, that he, Mr.Jovanovic will personally take from them the keys of the shelter and give them to the shinters team in order for them to do so-called triage and killings because there are to many dogs at the shelter.

 

The Vet of that shinter team of Mladenovac city is Dr. Djordjevic, IS ALSO at the same time the chief of dogcatchers team !!

The President of SNUPI declares that the President of  community Mladenovac city – Mr. Branislav Jovanovich, said to him that he does not care for animal welfare charges and that  he will take the keys and that the dogs will go onto the street or  somewhere – he does not care where.

 

So, shinters may be undertaking a mass killing of dogs in the city pound, or they may simply be turned back out onto the street, increasing the already too large dog population.

Please phone and e mail and insist that these killings stop immediately and that dogs are not thrown out onto the street, otherwise Brussels and the EU will be informed immediately.

It is understood also that the other reason for the shelter and dogs being destroyed is that the location of the shelter has already been sold for the building of a factory.

You can see from the above pictures the situation at the shelter.  The authorities spend millions of Dinar each year killing animals in a never reducing cycle, and yet with all these millions, they DO NOT GIVE ONE SINGLE DINAR to any of the shelters run by animal welfare NGO’s.

The authorities do not seem to have sense to understand that by having a no kill programme, sterilised animals cannot reproduce and create more little stray animals to go onto the streets.  It is not difficult for most to understand this concept; so why do the authorities not share this view and insist on killing some animals and by not sterilising, allowing others to continue producing yet more offspring.

Croatia: Dogs Dying Nationwide Due to Lack of National Policies

The above is a Croatian newspaper article –  it states that dogs  in Croatia have the right  to exist for 90 days in city pounds, but that dogs are in city pounds of Zagreb and all over Croatia, confined into small cages  for periods very much less then 90 days.  This is because they are dying from hunger, thirst and attacks from other animals (dogs) who are fighting them for the small amount of food available.
Vets will kill them after a 90 day period, if they have not died before due to illness and injury.
This is the reason why a Croatian ‘No Kill’ policy needs to be undertaken within Croatia.
