The basic story:

baby deer 3

The baby deer was saved by Mrs dragana Mitic, and was kept at her home where it was safe and cared for.

Video link:

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-AiXWWqCtdFbkxtbWwzTFFqcFU/edit?usp=drive_web>

But the Police inspector in that village of Cicevac on 1.8.2014 undertook the unlawful assistance to local hunters; assistance which is against the Serbian laws for animal protection.

With police assistance, the hunters took the baby deer from Mrs Dragana Mitic. Now the deer is being held by the hunters.

Mrs Mitic has visited the deer and it is now very poorly and sick; it is very hungry and is being kept in a very bad place.  Nobody where the deer is now being held is providing it with food; it is being given bad milk and Mrs Mitic feels that possibly the hunters will either kill the baby deer or will let it die so that they can eat it !

The Police officer of the village at Cicevac has personally acted in opposition to Serbian laws, and as the hunters do not appear to have registered the deer – they too have acted illegally.

If Mrs Mitic gets the deer back at her property, she can register the deer officially and would receive official Ministry approval very easily.

Complaints about this illegal situation and the illegal work of local police needs to be made public and given to the Minister and Director of the Serbian police – contact details are as follows:

E-mail: milorad.veljovic@mup.gov.rs, dp@mup.gov.rs

The deer will only eat when it is fed properly by Mrs Mitic; as it knows her and knows that she is caring for it and trying to help it become a strong animal.

People of Serbia especially, please call the Serbian police now on the above numbers and get the deer taken away from the hunters and returned to Mrs Mitic.

Ask that the local police be prosecuted under Article 269 of Serbian law for illegally giving support to the local hunters by taking the animal away from Mrs Mitic.  In addition the local police have acted against the Serbian national laws for the police by supporting the hunters and not Mrs Mitic.

Please call the police immediately – thank you.

In Subject I have stated: “The case of the baby deer did in village of Cicevac on 08.01.2014″!

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have been informed about the case of the baby deer in that village of Cicevac on 1.8.2014 trough de website Serbian Animals Voice.
I ask for your Supports.
The Serbian police must get the deer away from the hunters and return it to Mrs Mitic.
NOW!
The local police should be prosecuted under Article 269 of Serbian law for illegally giving support to the local hunters by taking the animal away from Mrs Mitic.

The deer will only eat when it is feed properly by Mrs Mitic; as he knows her and he knows that she is caring for him and trying to help him become a strong animal.

Maybe You can call Director of Serbian police ? , I am desperate.
Police inspector in that village Cicevac 1.8.2014. did do unlawful
assistention to hunters and hunters took baby deer from mrs Dragana
Mitic who has rescue baby deer and care about .

Now deer is by hunters ,
and they gave seldom agreement to mrs Dragana visit deer, she wrote deer is hungry and in worse condition and in very danger and bad place, nobody care, nobody give food, even hunters gave to deer bad milck – deer can die or would be slaughtered.
Police officer of village Cicevac acted in opposite to laws, hunters acted
in opposite to laws- they have not registered asylum for wild animals in
danger .Mrs Dragana Mitic can ask agreement by Ministerium but she did not know about this possibility – and she would ask registration because she has good place and she would receive Ministerium agreement very easy.
Thanks. Regards.

England: 8/8/2014 – EU Live Animal Transport Update – SAV Write TO EU Commissioner Responsible for Live Animal Transport.

England

Sheep legs

EU Live Animal Transport Update – 8/8/2014.

Following on from our recent action post regarding action and a sample letter which can be sent to the EU Commissioner regarding live animal transport:

https://serbiananimalsvoice.com/2014/07/29/england-sav-now-commences-action-with-the-eu-commission-regarding-live-farm-animals-in-transport-sample-letter-to-copy-and-send/

SAV have today (8/8/14) written directly to the EU Commissioner responsible for live animal transport welfare; Tonio Borg; http://ec.europa.eu/commission_2010-2014/borg/ , providing him with a detailed account of why in our view the current EU legislation, in the form of Regulation 1/2005 (of 22nd December 2004) on ‘the protection of animals during transport’; actually provides anything but ‘protection’ for animals undergoing long distance transport between existing EU member states.

SAV founder Mark has some 25 years experience regarding both direct investigation and campaign work associated with long distance animal transport throughout the entire EU.  See more at ‘About Us’ – https://serbiananimalsvoice.com/about-us/

In his direct letter to Commissioner Borg and ‘not mincing his words, but being clear and directly to the point(s), Mark states the following:

“To declare (as per 1/2005) that a driver is ‘competent’ to transport live animals for many hours across international borders simply because he has a piece of paper which says that he has undergone very basic tests / questions, and as a result is supposedly ‘competent’ is a complete and utter travesty for both EU animal welfare and good name of all EU citizens who are sick of witnessing the daily abuses that this EU live transport trade supports”.

“I ask you, please inform me here where is the ‘animal protection’ that you talk about and the so-called ‘competents’ (of 1/2005)” ….

“… you as the responsible Commissioner should face up to the facts and your responsibilities that EU citizens require a lot more action from you now on the issue of live animal transport.

These requirements include:

  • A one off maximum journey time of 8 hours for all animals in transport; regardless of them going for immediate slaughter or for further fattening.
  • An utter overhaul / complete re-vamp of the Regulation 1/2005 which as shown by undercover EU investigators time and time again; actually does very little, or even nothing, to give any ‘protection’ to animals being transported across the EU.       The Regulation is a farce; as is the entire EU system at present for live animals in transport
  • Much better and much more detailed animal transport driver training prior to them being given their sheet of paper and being declared as ‘competent’ to deal with animals being transported. If shown in any way that they are incompetent in their actions, then they be removed / struck off for good from being a driver of livestock animals”

“As the Commissioner responsible, it is now down to you to immediately address the EU concerns expressed by millions of EU citizens and implement positive actions for animal welfare improvements immediately; such as for example, stopping Dutch criminals from exporting live animals from the UK to mainland Europe.  This, combined with a much needed and very important piece of new legislation introducing an 8 hour maximum journey time limit would be a good start now in 2014 to actually show you really mean action rather than just talking the talk of better animal welfare somewhere in the future; maybe in years to come; whilst animals suffer in transport every day in-between.

It is time for you to step up to the plate immediately and introduce new and much tougher legislation for animals in transport rather than the dismal, irresponsible and utterly incompetent legislation that we have in the name of ‘Regulation 1/2005’ giving so-called ‘protection’ to animals currently in transport across the EU.  This shambles of a document is a disgrace on the EU”.

Whilst fully respecting the position of the EU Commissioner, and wanting to provide supportive evidence of his request, Mark finishes his letter:

I thank you for your time and consideration of my requests; and I will be watching you and the actions of your Commission very closely to see just how much progress you actually make in ‘paving the way for (animal welfare) achievements in the near future.  Please don’t plan to pave the way for years in the future; be brave and take on your EU Commissioner responsibilities; do it now – 2014 !!”

The letter was supported with many images of animals suffering in long distance transport within the EU over the past couple of years.

The view at SAV on live animal transport in the EU is that:

  • It is the EU Commission who can change animal transport legislation which will have an impact on ALL animal transport throughout the EU.
  • Campaigning only in individual member states of the EU does not address the overall issue of helping live animals in transport across the whole of the EU.
  • If a total revision / update to existing Regulation 1/2005 is undertaken at the EU Commission; this legislation will automatically impact ALL existing EU member states, who will then be required to amend their national legislation (based around 1/2005) to encompass the new rules.
  • A maximum one off journey time of 8 hours maximum for all animals in transport is very much needed to supersede the existing regulation which allows different species of animals to travel for vastly different times
  • Vastly different times which over many years, have been proven time and time again by welfare group undercover investigation teams to show that the existing rules and regulations are NOT being enforced on the road.
  • Animals suffer and endure nightmare journeys as a result – it is time for change – NOW.

A full copy of the correspondence has also been provided to the ‘Eurogroup for Animals’ http://eurogroupforanimals.org/  with the hope that they will also act and add weight to support their recent meeting with Commissioner Borg regarding EU live animal transport.

SAV now hope that we will be provided with a written response from both / either Commissioner Borg and / or the Eurogroup.  This will be provided on this site should it happen.

Regardless, the campaign to improve the welfare of ALL animals in long distance transport across the WHOLE of the EU continues.  Please watch this site for future actions and updates on this issue.

A copy of the existing EU Regulation (1/2005) on the so-called ‘protection of animals during transport’ can be viewed at:

Victory! 2014 North Carolina Ag-Gag Bill Is Dead

By Matt Rice

The North Carolina legislature just adjourned without passing the dangerous ag-gag bill that threatened to shield animal abusers from public scrutiny and keep people in the dark about where their food comes from.

North Carolina was the last remaining state contemplating ag-gag in the 2014 legislative session. This important victory is due in large part to the efforts of compassionate MFA supporters across the country, and the behind-the-scenes efforts of a broad coalition of national groups working together.

The legislature is expected to reconvene for a few weeks later this year, so animal advocates will need to be vigilant to ensure the ag-gag bill does not rear its ugly head again. Of course, the ag-gag bill could still be introduced again next year. But, for now, animals and consumers alike can breathe a sigh of relief. North Carolina’s proposed legislation — similar to an unsuccessful bill introduced last year — is quite obviously a desperate attempt by the factory farming industry to keep its cruel practices hidden from public view.

As numerous investigations by Mercy For Animals prove, factory farmers in North Carolina have a lot to hide. In fact, MFA has conducted three undercover investigations at multiple Butterball turkey factory farms in North Carolina, exposing workers maliciously kicking, beating, and throwing animals. Our 2011 investigation led to the arrest and conviction of several workers, including the first-ever felony cruelty to animals conviction related to birds used for food production in U.S. history.

None of this would have been possible if the ag-gag bill had been in effect. See for yourself what North Carolina’s factory farmers are trying so desperately to keep hidden: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJovxS9-RTQ

MFA’s 2014 investigation at a Butterball turkey hatchery in Raeford, North Carolina, shows newborn birds getting stuck and mangled in factory machinery, having their toes and beaks cut and burned off without any painkillers, and being dropped into a macerator to be ground up alive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRxNj3bbqyc

A 2012 investigation at multiple Butterball factory farms in North Carolina’s Sampson, Onslow, Duplin, and Lenoir counties showed rampant animal abuse, including workers kicking and stomping on birds, dragging them by their fragile wings and necks, and maliciously throwing turkeys onto the ground or on top of other birds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5LM06ZvCk4

A landmark 2011 investigation into a Butterball factory farm in Shannon, North Carolina, documented workers kicking and throwing birds and bashing in their heads with metal pipes. The abuses were so malicious that law enforcement raided the facility and ultimately convicted five Butterball employees of criminal animal cruelty. Recognizing that their cruel and often illegal actions can’t stand the light of day, factory farmers have been working hard over the past several years to keep cameras out of their facilities.

But compassionate Americans continue to stand united against this multibillion-dollar industry and the corrupt politicians that do its bidding by working tirelessly to defeat these dangerous and un-American bills.

What You Can Do to Help: Please share MFA’s undercover investigation video with as many people as you can and help expose the cruel and corrupt practices of the factory farming industry. Livestock Auction Owner Convicted of Animal Cruelty Following MFA Investigation

By Matt Rice

A Mercy For Animals undercover investigation at Ontario Livestock Sales, the largest livestock market in southern California, has led to the historic conviction of the facility owner.

This morning, Horacio Santorsola pled guilty to violating California’s criminal animal cruelty laws by permitting animals who were too sick or injured to stand or walk to be beaten and sold for the human food supply. Section 599f of the California Penal Code, also known as the “downer law,” prohibits livestock auctions from selling, holding, and transporting animals who are too sick or injured to stand up or walk.

Downed animals are more likely to carry diseases that threaten public health if allowed to enter the human food supply. Yet at Ontario Livestock Sales, downed animals were routinely sold, transported, and left to suffer for extended periods of time.

Santorsola was sentenced to 2 years probation and ordered to pay court fees and a fine totaling $1000 to be paid to the Inland Valley Humane Society. Seven of Santorsola’s employees have also been charged with criminal cruelty to animals. Their cases are still pending.

Here is the hidden-camera video that led to the conviction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2_KlJE5PAc

Today’s conviction follows a landmark decision by the Appellate Division of the San Bernardino Superior Court affirming the validity of California’s one-of-a-kind “downer” law and making clear that non-ambulatory animals deserve heightened protections against neglect, abuse, and malicious cruelty.

Mercy For Animals praises the San Bernardino District Attorney’s office for pursuing justice in this important case. The best way to help animals suffering in livestock markets and factory farms is to simply leave them off our plates.

Eyes on Animals do the most amazing work for our farm animals. Checking exports, long distance journeys, horse markets, slaughterhouses, training.  Without them I fear our animals would endure more suffering. The work they have done alone in Turkish slaughterhouses is something no one else has managed to achieve. Whilst there are still major problems with welfare out there they have managed to get access to slaughterhouses and offer advice on providing better welfare for all. http://www.eyesonanimals.com/

They are up for a very important Award and if they won they could get up to 75,000 Euro which would do wonders for this incredible charity.

On the 8th of August, cat lovers around the world will celebrate a day dedicated to all things fantastic and fascinating about felines.

There will be homes up and down the UK where cats and kittens are lucky enough to spend their lives protected by the security of a loving family.

Sadly, behind other closed doors – not of homes but of laboratories – there will also be many other cats and kittens suffering in silence. This time last year, one of our investigators, Suzie, was undercover at a MSD Animal Health laboratory and reflects on the time she spent with the kittens used in research. Please read her words and take action to stop this suffering by signing up to our Thunderclap for World Cat Day to raise vital awareness about the investigation and to end these cruel and unnecessary practices.

“Last year I was working undercover at MSD Animal Health and got to know many kittens during my time there, including Ben, Blackberry, Max, Otto, Rollie, Pollie, Simba, Toby, Thomas and George. They were all inquisitive, sweet little kittens, just like the cats so many of us share our homes with.

But sadly these kittens never saw the sky, breathed fresh air or felt the grass beneath their feet. Instead they were used and re-used in experiments and their precious lives terminated. I think about them often  and although we can’t save them, we can save others. Please take action and sign and share our petition today.

The first group of 15 kittens arrived on 13th May 2013 and – without knowing any life outside a laboratory – were killed on 22nd August 2013; their little bodies dissected and then dumped in a bin as waste. They were just 6 months old.

I feel terribly sad for the loss of those 15 little lives. These animals should have been in a loving home, spending their time playing and exploring. They should not have suffered and died in a laboratory. Please take action in their memory today. Action you take really does make a difference to the animals and together we can unite to end the suffering I had to see”.

Please share this message far and wide today.

Thank you.

Earlier this year, a BUAV investigation uncovered the shocking killing of kittens BORN TO DIE in a UK laboratory.

Ben, Blackberry, Max, Otto, Rollie, Pollie, Simba, Toby, Thomas, George.  Inquisitive, sweet little kittens, just like the cats so many of us share our homes with.

But these poor little kittens were tragically born to die at MSD Animal Health, their precious lives terminated after just a few weeks.  They never got to know the love of a human family, the joy of playing outside.  They never saw the sky, breathed fresh air or felt the grass beneath their feet.

Instead they were used and re-used again in experiments.

The kittens arrived at MSD Animal Health at just 8 weeks old, imported from Spain.  At just 10 weeks old staff started taking blood from them, sticking needles into their tiny veins.  Taking blood was a slow process and some of the kittens became distressed.

During the experiments, some of the kittens had ulcers on their tongues or lips. One was lame on her front right foot. Some were subdued while others had lost weight or suffered from very high temperatures of over 41 degrees.

On 22nd August 2013, 15 kittens were killed.  They were less than 6 months old.  Their little bodies dissected and then dumped in a bin as waste.

Please help the BUAV end the appalling killing of kittens, puppies and other animals BORN TO DIE in UK laboratories.
