Germany – ‘Fox week’ and hunting news.

Dominik Storr, the lawyer involved with the Strasbourg case, has lodged a complaint with the Wuerzburg public prosecutor’s office.

He’s representing a number of ant-hunting initiatives (Lovis’ “  – “closed season for foxes”/ “Wildtierschutz Deutschland” – among them) who want to see some action against the local (Lohr and Marktheidenfeld/Northern Bavaria) hunting societies and the involved hunters who have killed 92 foxes during their annual “fox weeks” from 20.01. – 03.02.2013.

A copy of the Dominik Official document can be viewed here:

There’s a video with Dominik here – he’s the blond long-haired chap:

The programme/discussion group is about animal welfare issues.  The lady with the short grey hair is also pro-animal rights – she used to be with the local Greens, but is now retired. She is seen a lot now at protests etc;

Germany: 73 Year Old Driver Causes His Truck Overturn On Motorway A99 – 700 Piglets Slaughtered On Site Despite Many Not Suffering Injury.

Subject: (DE – Bavaria) Truck overturns on motorway A99700 piglets slaughtered on site

Shortly past midnight on Feb. 22nd a livestock carrying truck overturned on the A99, the Munich bypass motorway. Police put the accident down to a driving mistake by the 73-year old driver, who seems to have tried turning into a motorway service station and lost control.

The veterinarian general called to the site ordered the immediate slaughter of all piglets due to the impossibility of unloading them without injury. People passing in their cars heard the high-pitched screams of the piglets as they were first stunned with electric tongs and bled – right there and then, on the motorway.

The meat, it was said, is unfit for consumption due to the high levels of stress hormones, and so the bodies were disposed off.

The animals apparently came from a farm in Schleswig-Flensburg (extreme north of Germany) and were destined for Italy – to be fattened for slaughter.

————————————————

SAV Comment:

a 73 year old driving a truck such as this !! – obviously he should have been retired years ago – but his mistake led to the deaths of 700 pigs and he survived.

The bodies were simply ‘disposed off’.  This wastage of living creatures sums up completely what is wrong with this planet now.  Greed, greed, greed, money, money, money and profit, profit, profit.

We advise the incompetent too old driver to retire before he causes any more suffering to living animals.

Group Of Muslim Animal Abusers In Sweden Behead Cat, Proudly Display Photos On Facebook

http://midnightwatcher.wordpress.com/2013/02/15/practise-makes-perfect-group-of-muslim-men-in-sweden-behead-cat-display-pho/#

‘According to a 1997 study done by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and Northeastern University, animal abusers are five times more likely to commit violent crimes against people and four times more likely to commit property crimes than are individuals without a history of animal abuse …’

Alerta Digital (Translated) – “Swedish police are investigating a case of animal abuse after a photo published on the net where four men appeared with the severed head of a cat. One held the animal’s head while another was carrying a knife and the cat’s body.

After leaving the photo on the net, new images have been revealed where you can see how the cat is skinned by a man with a large knife and standing proudly with the cat’s head.

Östergötland police were investigating the case, but it finally went to Nykoping. According to a police report, the man with the cat’s head has been identified as a citizen of Vagnhärad, Sweden. The only one identified is the prime suspect of animal cruelty because the picture was published.

Following the identification, the portal has been exposed to reveal the identity of the four men involved through their social profiles on Facebook.

According to the website, who holds the animal’s head by the name of Hamza Tchaki, of Tunisian origin.

At his side, holding the knife appears Youssef Ben Ali, while the left is Kuorbam Uomama with a baseball cap.

Finally, the man who is at the bottom of the photo is Firas Mani.   They are all Tunisian govern.

The tortured cat has become a hot topic on Twitter and Facebook.” Source – Alerta Digital (Spanish).

Cruelty Toward Animals Is A Good Indicator Of Future Cruelty Toward People – “According to a 2001-2004 study by the Chicago Police Department, as reported by The Humane Society, ‘Of those arrested for animal crimes, 65 percent had been arrested for battery against another person.’ 65 percent is an overwhelming majority and, surprisingly or not, this statistic is not one of a kind. The Humane Society lists many more documented and researched cases that share similar figures. For example, ‘of 36 convicted multiple murderers … 46 percent admitted committing acts of animal torture as adolescents’ or ‘of seven school shootings that took place across the country between 1997 and 2001, all involved boys who had previously committed acts of animal cruelty.’

All of these statistics echo a similar morbid message: cruelty toward animals is a good indicator of future cruelty toward people. Read more.

Not all animals being transported by road across the EU go in ‘conventional’ livestock trailers which have exterior air vents fitted to each tier, providing air to the animals. Some trailers are completely sealed as shown in the photograph (this truck has several hundred sheep in its trailer) giving most outside observers the conception that anything other than live animals are being carried within it. We feel that this should be made much more evident to outside observers and especially emergency services should an accident occur.

RSPCA seeks hearing over live exports ruling

Wednesday 13 February 2013

The RSPCA is to seek an oral hearing in the High Court to determine whether it can take its live animal exports judicial review application to a full hearing.

The animal welfare charity applied in December to seek a judicial review of the arrangements operated by Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency (AHVLA) for the approval and supervision of live animal exports through the port of Ramsgate.

But permission to bring the case to a judicial review was refused last week by Mr Justice Males following a consideration of the court papers.

Currently, live animals are transported over to Calais on an open-decked, flat-bottomed converted Russian tank transporter, the MV Joline.

The Joline - photo 2

But the RSPCA claims the AHVLA is acting unlawfully in failing to require the exporters to use ports with appropriate facilities and also in failing to impose sailing restrictions on the MV Joline to ensure that animals are not injured or caused undue harm while being transported by sea.

A lack of facilities at or near the port to deal with emergencies, the use of an old tank transporter to ship animals across the Channel in rough weather and the failure to thoroughly inspect animals at the port are “all unacceptable” and have “serious issues for animal welfare”, it claims.

RSPCA chief legal officer Ray Goodfellow said: “We are taking this stand because we believe AHVLA’s approach is failing to safeguard animal welfare and is in breach of European laws designed to protect animals from injury or undue suffering during transport.

“We believe we have a strong case that deserves to be heard.”

The charity also believes that changes to the inspection regime introduced by the AHVLA following the September incident are also unlawful in failing to provide proper checks at the port to safeguard animal welfare.

The RSPCA has vowed to fight on for the animals after Thanet District Council lifted its temporary ban on live exports at Ramsgate in November.

The local authority had closed Ramsgate port to live exports in September following an incident when more than 40 sheep had to be destroyed. But the port was reopened in October after legal action by Dutch exporters.

The AHVLA said it would not be commenting on the case while there was still an option for the RSPCA to appeal.

RSPCA legal bid to ban live exports from Ramsgate quashed

Thursday 07 February 2013

The RSPCA has expressed its disappointment after a High Court judge rejected its legal bid to stop the live export of animals from a Kent port.

The animal welfare charity lodged a claim in the High Court to seek a judicial review of the approval and supervision of live animal exports through Ramsgate port.

The RSPCA launched the legal challenge after Thanet District Council lifted its temporary ban on live exports at Ramsgate following an incident on the vessel MV Joline in September in which more than 40 sheep, considered by officials as lame, were put down.

Launching the legal proceedings last month, the RSPCA said it believed the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency (AHVLA), which is responsible for checking consignments of live animals through Ramsgate port, was “acting illegally”.

The RSPCA accused the AHVLA of failing to impose sailing restrictions on the MV Joline – which it described as an “open-decked, flat-bottomed converted Russian tank transporter” – to ensure that animals were “not injured or caused undue harm while being transported by sea”.

Joline10

Joline.1 resize

Joline.3 resize

Joline.4 resize

It also accused the AHVLA of failing to require exporters to use ports with appropriate facilities and failing to provide proper checks at the port to safeguard animal welfare.

But in a High Court ruling on Tuesday (5 February), judge Mr Justice Stephen Males dismissed the RSPCA’s case on all three grounds and said it was not even arguable.

Commenting on the ruling, an RSPCA spokesman said: “We are extremely disappointed by the decision. We still have an opportunity to ask for a reconsideration of the decision at an oral hearing.

“We will be considering the options with our legal team and also consulting with our trustees. Our deep concern about the lack of appropriate regulatory safeguards to protect the welfare of animals involved in this trade remains unchanged.”

The AHVLA said it would not be commenting on the case while there was still an option for the RSPCA to appeal.

In December, farm minister David Heath announced new, tougher rules for live animal exports from Ramsgate port. AHVLA inspectors have been told to increase inspections and take a “zero tolerance” approach to any breaches of welfare regulations where unnecessary suffering is caused to animals.

APPEAL FOR HELP

“Problems are piling up…

Winter is already in full swing, but the weather is very changeable; we were literally snowed in a couple of weeks ago, and then it was pouring rain for days. After that we had some chilly but clear weather followed by freezing rain and now it’s snowing again. The central heating is on day and night and the first tank of gas we bought back in September is close to empty; another one has already been ordered.

During the cold winter months what scares me the most is the thought of a heavy, wet snow falling and sticking to the already rain drenched chain link fence. It will eventually reach a point where it can’t bear the burden of the extra weight and will collapse. We’ve been lucky so far, as last weekend’s snowfall melted quickly, but we can’t count on luck forever and I wonder what will happen when it turns against us. The chain link fencing around the shelter has gotten loose and the posts are wobbly due to the horrible winter and huge snowfall last year. The entire fence is much weaker, more than ever before. How this winter’s ordeal will end up remains to be seen.

The roof of the auxiliary rooms in the backyard is another matter. Completely worn out, with rotten rafters and partially cracked roof beams, it’s still miraculously holding on, but the new snow always gives me the willies every single time, nevertheless. Our last year’s project of repairing the shelter started too late and we weren’t prepared well enough. We were trying to raise funds while simultaneously repairing the shelter and it was a big mistake, we should’ve found a way of covering expenses before getting bogged down with major shelter repairs. Most of the unpleasant lessons seem to have to be learnt the hard way…The first time is always the hardest, no matter what we are talking about.

All of the kitties are eating tremendous amounts of food during the winter months; I can’t believe how fast the food storage empties. They have all gained a lot of weight but their appetites are still voracious. When the weather is bad, most of them don’t even want to set foot outside, but on rare perfectly calm and sunny days the yard is full of chubby, furry creatures rolling around. Just looking at them is a pure bliss!

We are in the middle of winter now, and no one knows how bad it’s going to get. If you can help us in any way possible, please do so! Your kindness and thoughtfulness will make everything a lot better and will be a great encouragement. Felix kitties, all of them unwanted and unimportant once, deserve to have nice lives in their safe haven!”

Best regards and thanks;

Danica and all the cats.

Germany: If You Go Down To The Woods Today – You May Come Home In A Body Bag ! – And A German Government Who Do Nothing But Bow To Hunters.

GERM0001

Bin9

January 2013 – German hunters have been out as usual killing everything that they are able to – this even includes shooting many (human species) people who have been out simply having a walk in or around the forests and the fields near their homes; the only problem being that they (people enjoying the countryside) were on the other side of the fields of crops and could not been seen by the hunters.  The hunter, with out even verifying ‘his target’, assumed instead that they, the humans taking a walk,  were wild boar or other natural and wild animals which were ‘game’ for their guns, and indiscriminately fired into the crops hoping for a kill – another to add to their useless tally.  Sometimes they have hit humans, sometimes they have killed them.  In Germany, a walk in the forest – if  you go down to the woods today – can see you returning home, in a body bag.

But German legislation does not care about walkers being shot at, maimed or even killed by hunters– Merkel does not care – she bows continually to the pro-hunt lobby at every turn whilst ignoring the rights of normal citizens who wish to enjoy nature.  Many of these citizens have been threatened by hunters whilst simply out walking; the hunters declaring that people ‘should get out of their area’, whilst at the same time using tactics such as threatening to shoot the citizens dogs if they do not obey what is said by the gun waving hunter – get out and stay out – I am here to kill and that is what I intend to do.

It is a very sick society, but unfortunately one that the German government bows to and does nothing to fight for its non-hunt citizens – in fact Merkel supports the pro hunt lobby and detests everything Green and Eco.

The competition is part of the Duesseldorf trade fair “Jagd und Hund” (Hunting and Dog) from Tuesday next week through to February 3rd. It is heavily supported and sponsored by the local Hunting Association and the publication mentioned above.

They want to push for more German fox fur being worn as fashion and to revitalise a traditional industry – that is also heavily supported by the German ministry for Trade at the Hong Kong Fur Fair (German Pavilion) every year.

Sadly, most article comments reflect a support for this ..

The lettering of the title is of especial interest .. This particular font is not used anyone in modern German writing. It was used up to, say, the 1940s – the time of the Nazis.

Indeed, the current German hunting legislation was formulated by “Reichsjaegermeister” (Reich’s hunting master) Hermann Goering.

A fact that fills many hunters, especially the older generation or those with a right-wing tendency (of which there are many among the hunters), with pride.

Question

A word to describe someone who hates animals but was unable to find one. What is the word that describes an animal hater?
by kazzzy on December 30th, 2007

Answer

I found “Misothery”, meaning a hatred and contempt for animals and animal-like aspects of nature. Misothery manifests itself in the form of animal exploitation, environmental degradation, etc. (from: http://www.animalsagenda.org/newcomers.asp)

Apparently it’s a word coined by animal rights activist Jim Mason. An interview excerpt:

Q. You have coined a term called “misothery”. What does this mean and is it related to misogyny at all?

A. The word misothery (miz OTH uh ree) is coined from two Greek words, misos, “hatred”, and ther, “wild beast” or “animal”. Thus it means, literally, “hatred of animals”. More broadly, it means hatred/contempt/despising of animals/animality/nature. It is very similar in construction, meaning and use to the more familiar word misogyny, which comes from the Greek root words misos and gune, “woman”. There are all too many examples of misogyny, of course. Maybe one of the most common is an attitude expressed in one of Norman Mailer’s works: “Most men who understand women at all feel hostile toward them. At their worst, women are low, sloppy beasts.” Plenty of other examples can be found in X-rated pornography and some of the writings of the Marquis de Sade and the philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer. These are hateful attitudes; they indicate strong contempt and loathing.

I coined misothery because I could find no word in the English language to express the similar sort of strong, negative feeling about animals, animality and nature. The word “speciesism” is too mild, as it means merely discrimination or inequality of regard. Similarly to “sexism” and “misogyny”, sexism is discrimination, un-equal treatment; misogyny is strong hatred and contempt for women. “Speciesism” connotes unequal regard for animals; “misothery” connotes vicious, strong, deep hatred and contempt for animals. For example, just look at “animal” in any dictionary: One meaning is “an inhuman person; brutish or beastlike person”, someone who is horribly cruel and violent. Other examples of misothery are our traditional attitude toward wolves, rats, snakes, cats, bats and other species who challenge us or threaten us in some way – or so we believe. (I say traditional because these attitudes are slowly changing in some places.)

Misothery arose in the first place as early agriculturalists learned to demystify and control the forces of nature–by clearing forests, damming rivers, irrigating crops, selecting seeds, and–above all–enslaving animals and controlling their lives. In that early stage, they still had the leftovers of the Paleolithic-era regard for animals as ensouled beings who represented the spirits and powers of a greater, more mysterious natural world. Animals were more or less sacred. As agriculturalists took over nature, they had to bring animals down off their pedestal, so to speak. They were needed not as gods, but as property and commodities. The old beliefs in the animal powers had to go in order to make way for animal slavery. As with any form of slavery, the slavers had to reduce the status and strip away the dignity of the enslaved. Thus misothery begins to be seen in the art, legends, myths and laws–the culture–of early agrarian societies. By the time history begins c. 3,000 BC, misothery (and misogyny) are overtaking and displacing the earlier views of animals (and women). (from: http://www.animalliberationfront.com/ALFront/Interviews/RITUALS%20OF%20DOMINIONISM%20-%20The%20Jim%20Mason%20Interview.htm)

Bin1rs

Here (the one above and those below) are some very recent photos obtained from contacts across Germany which show the indiscriminate killing of wildlife by hunters.  Killing which includes, fox, deer and wild boar.  These animals once shot, are simply discarded into ‘disposal bins’ which are located throughout Germany to take the body of any animal.

There is no point to any of this apart from the German hunters wanting go into the frenzy of mass kill, like hunters everywhere !

Beautiful animals killed for no reason by ‘hunter mentals’ who have noting better in life to do other than take it from other living beings.  Those who then simply discard their days activities into the bin – Job Done !

This is Germany 2013 – A good place for mass animal killers (including the current government); but a very bad place if you happen to be a civilised human out enjoying the countryside, just the same as a fox, deer or wild boar going about finding food and simply trying to survive.

UK / Netherlands: (UK) Live Export Policing Goes Over £400,000 in 18 Months – (NL) New Film Released Re EU Long Distance Live Animal Transport Investigations.

UK – Ramsgate animal export demos ‘cost £400,000 to police’

Officers have policed a series of protests since live exports moved to Ramsgate

Policing protests against live animal exports from Ramsgate has cost Kent Police more than £400,000 over the last 18 months, the force has revealed.

A report to Kent’s police and crime commissioner, Ann Barnes, showed there were 15 arrests and two police officers injured during demonstrations in 2012.

Ms Barnes said policing the protests was a “no-win situation”.

But Councillor Ian Driver, who is one of the protest organisers, said he believed police costs to be nearer £1m.

The issue of the export of livestock has caused controversy in Kent for decades, beginning in Dover.

Dover Harbour Board halted the trade in April 2011, prompting the move to Ramsgate which is owned by Thanet District Council.

‘Beyond peaceful protest’

The report, prepared by Chief Constable Ian Learmonth, said the primary role of Kent Police was to facilitate the lawful export trade and the right of people to protest peacefully.

But it said that events at Ramsgate in the latter half of 2012 went beyond peaceful protest.

Ms Barnes said if police deployed too few officers and someone got hurt they would be blamed, but if there were too many it would be considered a waste of money.

“They are in a bit of a no-win situation,” she said.

Councillor Ian Driver said he believed the full cost of policing was nearer £1m

“They have to put enough people there to make sure everybody is safe and to allow the trade to continue.

“Whatever we say, it is a legal trade. The protesters can’t stop it, Thanet Council can’t stop it and it has to be policed.”

But independent councillor Mr Driver disputed the police figures.

“The chief constable doesn’t count all the logistical support for policing the demonstration,” he said.

“He is not counting the cost of the intelligence gathering work and nor has he counted the legal costs to the police force.

“My figure is more like £1m that has been spent.”

Mr Driver also said that of the 15 arrests, five were “nothing whatsoever” to do with the protests.

“Of the other arrests only one person has gone to court, who went to appeal, and Kent Police’s case was thrown out,” he said.

And also, the EU is failing animals in transport – (Yet) another investigation shows.

One day possibly, the EU will actually do something positive for all the money it takes from member states.  Animal transport is a huge issue within the EU, and we call for improvements and changes to be introduced immediately.

** WARNING ** – The following video link shows extreme animal suffering.  This is the reality of long distance animal transport in some parts of the EU, and also from the EU to non member states such as Turkey.

(EN) Dearest donors and friends,

Today we are releasing a new film, that we made together with the Animal Welfare Foundation and Compassion in World Farming, to the media in Europe and Turkey. As you know, we use our reports, photos and videos to lobby and educate the European Commission, to complain to the Member State officials and to train the police so that more livestock trucks in violation are stopped and sanctioned.
But we hope that by sharing video- footage with animal-welfare campaign groups and with the media, we can get the world to know about these animals that become dehydrated, exhausted and scared during these difficult journeys.

The film has video scenes taken from our most recent investigations at the Turkish border, but also of EU animals going to other countries far away.
As usual, we are calling for an end to live export. Sadly, with the economy not doing well, most EU countries and even the European Union are promoting expanding the trade in live animals…I am afraid we will not win this fight but we must continue to make people aware.  One day, this will all stop.

To view the new film, please click on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MH2LB5Xo0B0.

We would be really pleased if you could set it on your Facebook pages or other social media that you use. Passing it to friends and contacts by email as well.
Thank you for all your support and for caring,
