Regarding our very recent post asking if anyone has any news about Archie, (click on this link to see our original of 2011):

https://serbiananimalsvoice.com/2011/08/28/serbia-a-terrible-case-of-suffering-inflicted-on-a-young-stray-street-dog-archie-his-abuser-must-be-found-and-punished-imprisoned-in-accordance-with-serbian-legislation/

we have been provided with some positive news from one of our friends.

To keep it brief, we will show you the information that we have been sent in Italics below:

Message: Hi Mark

According to the news published in the Serbian media (http://img.blic.rs/vesti/aktuelno/vest/pas-arci-kome-su-odsecene-sape-sada-udomljen-u-italiji/23414.phtml):
on December 20, 2011 the dog Arci was adopted in Italy.

Arci was transferred to Italy by the international animal welfare organization S.O.S. ANIMALI, based near Rome.

After getting used to new environment, Archie will get special prostheses with which he will be able to walk. – said Natasa Vukmirovic, president of the association LJUDI ZA ŽIVOTINJE (HUMANS FOR ANIMALS).
For more info, contact:
Natasa Vukmirovic on Facebook
https://www.facebook.com/ljudi.za.zivotinje.bg

I hope Arci is much loved, and will always be well taken care of.
Desanka.

So fingers crossed that everything is still going well for Archie and that he has found help and a safe new home with care in Italy.  We want to thank Desanka for taking time out to give us an update of the situation.

This positive news has also been sent to our contact in Sweden who first contacted us with concerns, asking if Archie had been returned to the streets.  In a private e mail we said that we thought this would be very unlikely given the seriousness of his injuries; and from what we now know, this was the case and hopefully all is still good for Archie.

Does Anyone Have Up To Date News On ‘Archie’ ?

serbian-flag

We are putting out an appeal for information for one of our supporters in Sweden.  Can you help us ?

Back in August 2011 we posted the following on the (SAV) site about a dog named ‘Archie’ who had 2 of his legs chopped off by somebody.  Why ? – probably because he was a stray that they hated.

https://serbiananimalsvoice.com/2011/08/28/serbia-a-terrible-case-of-suffering-inflicted-on-a-young-stray-street-dog-archie-his-abuser-must-be-found-and-punished-imprisoned-in-accordance-with-serbian-legislation/

On behalf of our Swedish supporter, we are trying to find out any current news on Archie.  Is he still alive ?; is he being cared for somewhere ? – is he now at a shelter ? – if so, who and where ?

We are just trying to get any news we can so we can pass on – good or bad.

We have never been given any updates from anyone despite trying to publicise the cruelty and suffering that this poor dog endured at the time in August 2011.

If you do have any info, please give it to us through the ‘Contact’ tab which is at the top of the page.

Thanks (in hope) – SAV.

EU: Will EU Strays Be Given A Legal Voice In The Coming Weeks ?

euun0001serbian-flag

Here below is some important news in relation to EU stray animals – it is given in both English and German links.

English –  eci_press_release-2

German –  evpressemitteilung-6-10-16

For years we have been campaigning to be a voice for the street / stray animals of the EU; to get them treated humanely and without suffering and the killing which regularly takes place in several EU member states.

S2

A dog catching / killing team at work in Serbia

As you know, we have worked the same for Serbian strays within Serbia.  The government has always intentionally ignored our evidence that sterilisation undertaken on stray animals over a period of time leads to the decline in strays.

The ECI shows that, and as outlined in the attached PR; that neuter and return is CHEAPER than the catch and kill tactics used by some states; including Serbia.  As the PR indicates, member states who do apply the no kill policy not only enhance their own reputation with their own citizens, but also enhance their reputation with citizens from abroad and other EU member states.

Pozega january 1

We have shown the corruption of the system used by authorities to put money for animal welfare into their own back pockets instead.  Serbia wishes to become an EU member state – and is currently in the process of application, whilst being handed billions of Euros by the EU for same.  Again, money destined for animals ending up in the back pockets of corrupt officials.  We have never seen Serbia apply the ‘rules of law’ for Serbian stray animals.  Application of the rule of law by any nation seeking EU membership must be shown by that nation prior to membership.  One could argue that the way in which Serbia deals with its stray animals is just one of the issues preventing Serbia from becoming an EU member state.

The verdict of the European Court is expected within the next few weeks.  We very much hope that the court acts in favour of EU animals and most EU citizens in taking positive action for stray animals,  Unless nations such as Serbia and Romania do take positive animal reduction strategies based around the ‘no kill’ approach; but instead aimed at long term sterilisation attitudes; Serbia will continue to wander as an outcast nation that is not wanted by the majority of EU citizens who do care for animals and their welfare.

Picture 017

Picture 021

It is also down to Serbian citizens – taxpayers – to ask if the current methods of stray animal ‘control’ are actually working; are the people getting anything back for the money they are paying out ? – are stray animal numbers actually on the decline, or as we suspect, are they actually increasing despite all the money the government and regional authorities are throwing into killing strays ?

Regardless of the outcome, there are very interesting times ahead on the horizon for the welfare and humane treatment of stray animals throughout Europe.

Serbia: News From Felix Shelter – More Wonderful Food Has Arrived From Denmark.

Serbian Flag

felix cartoon 2

cropped-felix.gif

We are in a holiday mood, but not because it’s a holiday!

Another load of 100 kg of delicious high quality cat food from Denmark has arrived just in time, as we’d already opened the last sack of kibble we had.

foct1

Although this entire week has been rainy, gloomy, wet and rather cold and all of us have been feeling a bit down, the mere sight of this wonderful donation have the Felix kitties beaming with joy!

foct2

They immediately insisted on sampling the food they’d received and the crunching sounds of their chewing, coming from everywhere, is music to our ears.

foct3

We are boundlessly grateful to the amazing Danish organization UFFAC (United Friends For Animal Care) and their supporters for making today a perfect day for all of the Felix kitties.

Thank you so much, dear friends and the kitties thank you from the bottom of their full bellies!

Serbia: Crisis At Shelter Felix – Support Needed – Please Help.

Serbian Flag

SAV comment –  this situation shows yet again that the Serbian government and municipalities are not living up to what is required of them under Serbian law.  Thus they are not enforcing the ‘rule of law’ and so they are not suitable to be accepted into the EU, for which to become a member state, you have to show you are applying your own national legislations.

Will the EU consider this ? – who knows; does the EU care about animals in Serbia ? – certainly not if what we have seen for the last 11 years is anything to go by.  Will the EU continue to give money to Serbia for nothing in return ?? – probably.

Are EU citizens opinions and arguments listened to by the EU ? – certainly not; only Commissioners who do not represent the people are listened to.

The UK made the decision in June to leave the EU.  That is a certainty now  which has been made clear in the last few days by the British government.  At the end of Article 50 taking place, the UK will not be ruled by the un-elected masters of the EU.  Britain  will go it alone.  Already there are many signs that the UK is doing better post Brexit than it was when it was fully in the EU.

Other EU nations ? – well who knows.  Will they stay in the un-elected club or will their citizens have the guts to say ‘no’ and to get out ?

That friends is the question.

In the meantime, please help the cats at Shelter Felix with a donation if you can – thank you – SAV.

It’s not only that we are seriously failing at raising the funds to cover the inevitable costs of the basic necessities of the large number of shelter cats, like we’ve been doing over and over again every month for ages, but it’s also turned out we have to fix (strengthen and renovate) the outdoor enclosure as soon as possible!

felix s1

felix s2

The links of our chain link fence are way too wide to prevent kittens and tiny adult cats from escaping through the wire and the six bottle babies are exactly proving our point, now that they are big enough to be released into the yard. Over the last few days that they have been out of the house, they’ve already squeezed through the wire mesh a zillion times and instead of having fun in the yard, they spend their time walking on the top wire mesh and screaming as loud as they can. Fortunately, they don’t dare to come down, at least for now (good for them) but their new pastime is not perfect either. Needless to say how worried we are about their safety, but it’s senseless to keep them locked inside the house for another couple of years.

Please donate as much as you possibly can!

For reasons unknown, the following link has not been working.  We have now replaced it and hope all is ok.  This is the same link as at the end –  please use this one (at the end) if you still get problems – SAV.

Without your support we won’t be able to carry on for much longer and the shelter will sadly have to be shut down.

After all of these years of hard work, rescuing and caring, after all the tears and joy, failures and victories, the shelter cats will end up on the street again and will never get another chance.

We’re heading towards disaster although we’re fighting to save them with all our might, but we can’t do much on our own and we’re begging all of you to help us.

If not now, then when?
