Where Have All The ‘Dots’ Gone ?

unkg00011

Dear animal friends;

I am sure that over the last few days, many of you will have noticed that all of the little red dots have disappeared from our ‘Clustrmap’ of the world which you can see on the left hand side of the site.

This is because a regular, once-yearly archive takes place and our archive was activated on 8th March.

So we are now commencing a brand new year of ‘gathering dots’ on our clustrmap.

Naturally, people always like to have and see ever-more-dots, but the regular archive is the only way to avoid having the maps turn into a ‘giant red smear’, and continue delivering the scalable service that everyone has come to expect.

The great news was that up to 8th March,

during the last year we had 9,778 visits to the site;

so thank you everyone.

The important thing to remember is that although we have had around 10,000 hits, the information which is on this site, will be sent out further to all your animal contacts by all you good folks; so our 10,000 hits may become 20,000, 50,000 or more, who knows !

All we know is that every single hit we have at the site is productive for animal welfare issues around the world.  SAV started as a site solely dedicated to helping Serbian animals; and whilst this is a continuing priority for us, it is also necessary to highlight the terrible suffering and abuse that happens globally every day to animals.  I hope that you feel this is a positive thing for SAV to be doing.

So please, continue to spread the word about all the issues which we cover, and help us put even more little red dots on our global map in the coming year.

I appreciate your support of our little site at SAV and all the great work you are all doing in defence of animals everywhere.  Keep on keeping on !!!

Thanks and Regards

Mark – SAV, London, England.

USA: Please Help Defend the Nations Wolves from State Sponsored Wolf Hunts

usa4  wolfpuphowl1741

It’s the worst possible news for the wolves of the Northern Rockies: Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has given the green light to a Bush-era plan that will kick them off the Endangered Species list.

Please give an emergency contribution to help NRDC rush to court to defend these wolves.

Nearly 1,000 wolves from Greater Yellowstone to Glacier National Park could be caught in the cross-fire of state-sponsored wolf hunts and that killing could begin in just a few weeks.

we need your emergency donation right away.   still time to save their lives

The decision couldn’t come at a worse time. Breeding season is here, and wolves will start giving birth in April. That means pregnant females and newborn pups will be among those gunned down.

I’m sure you share my disappointment that the Obama Administration has abandoned a science-based approach in this rush to hand wolf management back to the states.

That’s why NRDC cannot stand by and let this deadly attack go unchallenged.

We’re filing suit in federal court to block this flawed Bush-era policy — a policy that will simply not stand up to scientific review. But to wage and win this life-or-death case for wolves,

We’ve won this fight before, thanks to your support. Last summer, NRDC and 11 other conservation groups compelled the Bush Administration to abandon its first attempt to strip wolves of their protection when we made the case that wolf populations had not yet fully recovered. Please click here to make an emergency contribution to save 1,000 wolves — before the states have a chance to pull the trigger.

rush to the wolf’s rescue now while there is

Today, less than 6 months later, wolf populations still haven’t reached biological recovery levels. In fact, over this past year, the wolf population in Yellowstone National Park declined 27 percent — and wolf pups in the park are dying of a yet-to-be-determined disease.

It’s incumbent on Secretary Salazar to withdraw this disastrous plan and submit it to the kind of rigorous scientific review that the Obama Administration has championed on so many other environmental issues.

Otherwise, we can expect a bloodbath in the Northern Rockies. The last time wolves lost their protection, 110 of them were gunned down in 120 days — nearly one per day.

NRDC and our partners stopped the slaughter then. And we must do it again — before the states get their “Open Fire” orders. Idaho has plans ready to go that would wipe out more than 100 wolves in just a single area of the state.

NRDC members and activists like you have always stood up for the wolves of the Northern Rockies when they’ve been threatened. That’s why I’m contacting you first — and counting on you to rally to the wolves’ rescue.

Wolves have already been exterminated in 96 percent of their former range. They are making one of their last stands right now in the Northern Rockies. We can’t afford to have the government drag them back to the brink of extinction.

Sincerely,

P.S. Most Americans are not even aware that wolves are in danger. That’s why I’m counting on NRDC members and activists like you to

China: International Call To Write to Chinese Embassies – Sickening Dog and Cat Cruelty Taking Place Today in China

*** Note – for non Uk residents, please see the note at the end of this post for other international Chinese embassy links ***

Photographs and Leaflet – Naturewatch, Gloucestershire, England.

Dear Supporter

Your help is urgently needed! And you can provide it with the cost of a stamp.

Today I am writing to you because Naturewatch needs your help to put pressure on the Chinese authorities to introduce animal protection laws in China.

The vile and sickening torture of cats and dogs for human consumption in China is beyond belief.  I won’t go into any detail of how the animals are tortured in this email as it is far too gruesome, however you will find information on our website >> http://www.naturewatch.eu/youtube-videos

The barbarity is so extreme, thousands of ill-fated cats and dogs take their last breath while enduring the most hellish suffering.

What kind of human and what kind of government can allow this repulsive treatment of innocent and defenceless animals?

Please write a letter to the Chinese Ambassador
We would like you to express your feelings to the Chinese Ambassador to the UK about the cruel treatment of animals in China.   Please let her know that it is completely unacceptable, totally unjustified, and brings shame and disgrace upon China.

Please click here to download a letter which you can simply print, sign and post to the Chinese Embassy in London.  The letter explains the main points, but please feel free to add your thoughts, or to write your own letter if you wish.

Please send the letter to:
Her Excellency Madame Fu Ying
Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the United Kingdom

Naturewatch supporters are sending their letters now, so please send your letter as soon as possible to increase the impact of the campaign.

Your letter to the Chinese Ambassador could be truly life saving for millions of cats and dogs, and it will take you no more than a minute to print the template letter, fill it in and send it to the Chinese Ambassador.

Romania: An Urgent Call to ALL INTERNATIONAL Welfare Organisations With Stray Animal Experience – Your Immediate Help Is Needed Please

rmna0001
Dear supporters;

We have had the following mail from Daniela who is involved with the stray dogs issue in Romania.
It must be said now that we give full support to Daniela and FRPCA in the
actions they are undertaking.

We hope that this case will draw attention to the stray animals issue both within EU nations and those who are currently non EU members but hoping
to gain accession.  We also hope that the actions here will provide us
and other animal welfare organisations with many ideas, suggestions
and guidance as to what can be done for the future with regard legal
actions against authorities who are not undertaking enforcement of
their own national legislation.

Finally, Daniela asks in her mail:

“We kindly ask you to join & support our action, by sending letters that will be attached to our dossier, speaking about the international
experience in many countries, and about results of the spay-neuter
programs”.

Whilst we understand the feeling that people have about the stray animal situation and the ways animals are suffering, we would like to say that
the data and evidence presented to Daniela will be used as evidence
in a Court of Law; and so we ask please that if any data is presented,
it is kept polite, respectful of those who will be reviewing it, and very
importantly, constructive in the information that it provides
– ie. That No Kill spay and neuter, vaccination and identificaion is the only
way to deal with the issue of stray animals population management; combined
with an effective public education programme about the responsibilities of
animal ownership.

Lets remember, not all strays that are on the streets are offspring of other un-owned strays; many ‘strays’ are the direct result of
OWNED but UN-STERILISED animals being allowed to go loose and
roam the streets every day by their owners who should be taking much
more responsibility for their own animals.

Public education about sterilisation of owned animals and the responsibilities of all pet owners to have this undertaken on their
pets is a paramount issue for stray animal population numbers reduction.
If owned animals are not sterilised, then the reproduction rates given in the
graphics at the end of this post are typical of the additional numbers of animals
that can end up on the streets.

Please only send information to Daniela which will be of use in a court of law.

We all wish Daniela every success with this action.

SAV.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the message from Daniela:

Dear All,

You might be aware of the street dog situation in Braila - Romania, and our efforts since 2006 to convince the local administration they
must spay&neuter, neuter&spay, since the dog culling and killing will
never remove the dogs from streets.

Since January 2008 the Romanian law for animal protection 9/2008 bans the euthanasia of healthy street dogs. The city hall of Braila pays a
dogcatchers NGO (for 'animal protection') that 'store' about 1000 - 1500 dogs
a year in conditions hard to describe (fertile males and females together,
overcrowded, strong and weak dogs together, without food, infants and puppies
separated from their mothers), maltreat them, cannot justify where the dogs
(and money) vanish, insult people that visit the dogpound to rescue their  dogs.
Upon complaints,  the animal organizations are banned from visiting the
dogpound - even in the presence of police.

So the law for animal protection has no effect in this dogpound where hundred dogs are impounded.
This NGO (Horez) never did a single spay or neuter - their veterinarian
is only on papers, to put his stamp.
They got 8,5 billion lei (over 200,000 Euro) in 28 months (Aug 2006 - Dec 2008)
from city hall to kill and maltreat animals.

You (ie. Many International Animal welfare organisations / NGO’s) have a great deal of experience and examples of how sterilization programs
work; you know details about the situation in Braila - FPCC, RAR,
Vier Pfoten, Save the Dogs - since there were many attempts to convince the
mayors to rethink their policy.

Here are more details, articles, photos and films:

http://protectiaanimalelor.ro/caini/caini_braila.htm

Now FRPCA sued the mayor of Braila, Aurel Simionescu, and another 3 representatives of the local administration for the faulty
management of street dogs, for the lack of efficiency in spending
public money, without solving the street dog problem and for animal cruelty.

The mayor refuses any solution, excepting this illegal NGO and its dogpound (it works without sanitary veterinarian authorization and is paid
from taxpayers' money).

We kindly ask you to join & support our action, by sending letters
that will be attached to our dossier, speaking about the international experience in many countries, and about results of the spay-neuter programs.

Please speak about how the law for animal protection is enforced in your countries, and about penalties for maltreating animals.

Vier Pfoten offered Braila administration help to solve the problem, many times, without costs, though the mayors refused the solution
proposed by animal organizations.

The address of Braila Mayor, Mr. Aurel Simionescu
aurelsimionescu@primariabr.ro

It is important that the letters from animal organizations to reach me, since we want to use all arguments in court, in this trial:
Please spread this message to all animal organizations to support our action - remember that the letters will be used in court.

For more details, please contact me.

Please Pass Grace’s Bill to outlaw Gas chambers in GA

Target: Tom McCall Chairman of House of Committee of Agriculture

Sponsored by: animal lovers Grace’s Law – Ga. House Bill 606 – this is a bill that would outlaw the use of gas chambers for euthanasia by Georgia’s animal control facilities. The bill is named after a dog who survived the gas chamber. Quite the opposite – the shrieks and screams of the unfortunates put to death in this way are a testimony to the lie Only ONE PERCENT of all shelters in the U.S. still use this method. There are 15 shelters in Georgia that use the gas chambers. Georgia needs to come into the 21st century, and MUST stop literally torturing animals to death. Georgia Voters for Animal Welfare needs YOUR help to end the madness. Here is your opportunity to make a difference. Now comes the critical part. Last year, a similar bill died in committee. We only have until March 12 to get the bill out of committee, so time is of the essence.

Tom McCall is the Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture. His address is: 226 State Capitol, Georgia 30334 Phone: (404) 656-5115 Fax: (404) 463-4122

Please also do the same for the Governor as his support is crucial as well.

Renewed Killing of stray animals in Serbia:

In the Serbian city of Nis the killing of animals living in the streets and animals living in pounds continues, despite the fact that the Mayor of Nis, urged by animal protection associations all over Europe, had promised to solve the problem of overpopulation by castration.

Animal Care Austria learned recently that the City of Nis will provide millions of  Dinars in 2009 for killing instead of castrating stray animals! Therefore, Animal Care Austria is asking you again for your help to stop these useless and unnecessary killings of stray animals in Nis (Serbia).

ACA has several on-going projects in Austria and in other countries, including the one in Nis. (For further details see http://www.animalcare-austria.at.)

Heavy protests by local animal protectors, ignored by the authorities, could not prevent a recent series of mass killings in Nis, which were carried out under the pretext of hygienic reasons. Since the authorities of Nis have failed to introduce timely castration programs (a common practice in countries with a low level of animal protection), the number of stray animals has risen dramatically.

However, the killing of animals to reduce overpopulation is unacceptable!

Animal Care Austria strongly supports castration as one of our main missions (“for every animal adopted in Austria, a local dog is castrated”), and we must act now!  It is our opinion that the only chance to improve animal protection in Nis, and to finally stop these medieval and cruel killings, is to join forces with numerous domestic and foreign animal protection associations and to apply pressure on the local authorities. Therefore, we would like to ask you, as private persons or representatives of your organization, for your help.

Please support ACA and other animal rights associations in their efforts to stop these horrible actions and to improve the living conditions of stray animals. Through the writing of joint petitions, the reporting on the situation in Nis at home and abroad, and the relentless pressuring of local authorities in Nis to initiate a castration project, we will succeed.
