Dear Mark,
I’m thrilled to tell you that, yesterday, the European Parliament voted to ban farm animal cloning.
Over the past 8 days, thousands of Compassion supporters took action against the suffering endured by farm animal clones and their surrogate mothers. You called on your MEPs to take a principled stand. And the Parliament voted by a substantial majority to ban cloning and products from clones and their offspring. Congratulations!
What’s next?
To progress into law, the proposals to ban cloning must now be supported by the 28-strong European Council of Ministers, and the European Commission. When they take their turn to decide we’ll need your help again – so watch this space!
In the meantime, our team will be busy behind the scenes – putting in the hours to identify our allies and work out which Member States could derail this vital legislation. Even compared to dressing up as a cow… or a rabbit… or a chicken (I’ve done them all!) this isn’t glamorous work.
Finally, a huge THANK YOU to everyone who took action to help make Europe a No Clone Zone. This vote is your achievement.
