The restaurant of Venus has today anniversary!

Today, ten years ago, I opened a restaurant.
Up there on the mountain where I live, in the high Black Forest, surrounded only by firs and meadows.
It is not an ordinary restaurant, it is very different from the restaurants we all know:
In the opening hours, in the food variations and especially in the clientele !!
My restaurant is open all week, but the food is served only after 23:00 in the evening.
This has become established, because of the special working conditions of my clients, I knew these conditions from the beginning and that’s why I tried to adapt the meal times to their needs.
My clients are not demanding; Mostly I serve my leftovers or those of my pets. They still seem to like my cooking, because until to this day they never left anything behind.

I don’t know how many they are, I don’t know even who they are.
In the past, they have made it clear to me that they want to remain anonymous.
I had a small, discreet camera installed on a tree for the purpose of getting to know some of them.
When I looked at the pictures after three days, I noticed that almost everyone has understood my slyness and left the restaurant immediately; so it was impossible to identify them.
They wanted to remain anonymous, I respect it.

One night- I’ll never forget it – a customer wanted to introduce himself to me.
It turned out that it was a “she” and not a “he”.
I remember it was a polar night, the thermometer showed -20 Celsius and everything was quiet and fairytale under the full moon.
When I came to the restaurant I could see not only two, not only four (as usual), I could see about ten eyes under the moonlight!!
It was a red fox with her five little ones.
That night she brought her whole family to present all to me.
After this meeting, all other customers remain unknown until this day.

From time to time I get threats from the hunters of the village; they say, they will make a complain to the police.
They claim, that my restaurant does not have a legal work permit !!
Sure, of course! If I had a restaurant where the hunters come to eat my “customers”, then there would be no problem!
I am not afraid and remain loyal to my customers.

The years go by, and the restaurant of Venus is still there!
And my clients, those who will always be unknown to me, my beloved animal companions of the forest, visit my restaurant every evening.
For the 10th anniversary, today, I have two wishes: the first is that I do not lose any of my clients. And the second is, that many people open such restaurants around the world.

Dear all, I wanted to celebrate this day with all of you.

German politicians and their pig farms.

We used to think: Corruption and maladministration in the meat industry only happen in southern countries.
No! That happens here too, in Germany.
Undercover investigations in German stables show that Germany is no longer the country with the best animal welfare.
Not even the land, where animals should benefit from -otherwise- very good animal welfare.
When it comes to meat industry, corruption knows no homeland.

The following is a translation of an article from Deutschlandfunk:

Controversial pig farm animal cruelty allegations against North Rhine Westphalia (NRW) Minister of the Environment.
Diseases, bites, no room: The pigs in the fattening farm of the family of NRW Environment Minister Christina Schulze Föcking suffer according to animal rights activists to an extent that goes beyond what is legally permitted. Whether the allegations are correct, should now decide the district court Münster.

For Sandra Franz (from the animal rights organization “Animal Rights Watch”), the matter is clear: Even if the Minister of the Environment repeatedly asserts the opposite. According to her, both Frank Schulze-Föcking and his wife, Christina, operate the controversial pig farm in the City Steinfurt.

“We reproach the spouses Schulze-Föcking for having let the pigs in their pig fattening suffer to an extent that goes far beyond what is permitted by law.” For years, the low minimum standards were also exceeded and the animals additionally suffered we believe that animal husbandry must be prohibited to the operator. “

Crushing evidence
New documents are to prove the involvement of the Minister of the Environment in the company and thus also in the alleged animal rights violations – including an “Environmental Inspection Report” of the district of Steinfurt on 4 December 2017 and a mail from the district government of Münster on 24 April this year. Both authorities speak literally of “operation” and “pig farm Christina Schulze-Föcking”. The petition has been extended by the Animal Welfare Association. Since the beginning of the week, the Minister of the Environment has been officially involved in the process. Peter Vierhaus, animal rights advocate, is optimistic.

“The special thing for me is from my legal perspective, that we have a very good proof situation here.” The evidence is overwhelming, especially through filming and other documents that we have. “

Animals suffer from many diseases
For example, various reports from the caring veterinarian until the year 2009. As it is often respiratory diseases, diarrhea, arthritis and bite wounds. According to one expert, all references to “poor housing conditions”, “management errors” and “poor hygiene”. The reports of the district veterinary office over the controls of the enterprise are also available to the animal rights activists.

“These inspections in 2013, 2014 have already shown that the employment material was insufficient, that the drinking water supply was insufficient, that the slatted floors were so old and broken that the pigs could get hurt by them repeatedly criticized by the veterinary office. But that all were not turned off. “

Minister of the Environment denies participation
So the representation of the animal rights activist. The Minister of the Environment contradicts. “These allegations are pointless,” she explains in a written statement on request of West German TV stations. The state of the pigs is even “above average”. The participation in the court in Steinfurt denies them, the farm has been leased since 1 July 2017 and is managed by the tenants on their own responsibility. Now, the court has to decide if the acting environment minister is banned from keeping animals.

Australia: Live export ban gains ground with NXT signalling support.

Live export ban gains ground with NXT signalling support

Source:  http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/south-australia/live-export-ban-gains-ground-with-nxt-signalling-support/news-story/d246910dfd0eb5df8aeec9c84fe4764d

THE Nick Xenophon Team is pushing for Australian meat to be processed locally and has signalled it will likely deliver crucial crossbench support to a proposal to ban live exports.

Mayo MP Rebekha Sharkie, whose electorate is home to a number of sheep farmers, has written to Agriculture Minister David Littleproud to call for an end to animal abuse in the industry.

Liberal backbench MP Sussan Ley has pledged to introduce a Bill next month to ban live exports to the Middle East despite efforts by farming groups to dissuade her.

Because a ban is not Government policy, for Ms Ley’s plan to be successful she would need support from Labor as well as some members of the crossbench, or for some Liberals to cross the floor.

Ms Sharkie said she would need to see the Bill’s content before making a firm decision.

“However … I believe she is looking at a very measured and logical approach to phasing out the industry,” Ms Sharkie said.

“My preference has always been to have meat processed on Australian shores and exported in a chilled form.

“The meat processing industry in Australia directly employs 35,000 people and indirectly employs 100,000 people. I want to keep these jobs in Australia.”

Acting Labor leader Tanya Plibersek urged the Government to consider a suspension in the northern hemisphere summer trade while a review ordered by Mr Littleproud was completed.

Sambo: exploited for 15 years and finally dies, while she hauls tourists through Angkor Wat!

For 15 years, the elephant cow Sambo worked as a tourist attraction in Cambodia, until she suddenly overturned and died last Friday. According to the attending veterinarian Sambo suffered a heart attack “due to high temperatures, exhaustion and lack of wind cooling”. This is reported by the Cambodian newspaper “Phnom Penh Post”. For 40 minutes the elephant cow apparently had to carry two tourists through the temple complex Angkor Wat that day – without interruptions and in the scorching heat of 40 degrees.

The load was apparently too much for Sambo, who is said to have been between 40 and 45 years old. On the way from one temple to another, she just collapsed, the report said.
Recordings posted on Facebook show the lifeless body of the elephant lady on the roadside. As media reports, several eyewitnesses are said to have cried when they saw the majestic animal in that condition.

Animal rights activists around the world are dismayed by Sambo’s circumstances. With a petition they want to bring about the end of elephant riding in the archeology park Siem Reap.

“A cruel tourist attraction that has been proven to harm elephants and harm the tourism industry in Cambodia should be stopped,” reads the online petition website.

Lifelong misery for animals

“Tourists may think that an elephant ride on holiday does not harm anyone, but atrocities are often hidden, but what you need to realize is that what is a unique experience for you or just an item on your must-do list, lifelong misery for a wild animal, “say the initiators. More than 48,000 people have already signed the petition.

Since 2001, the elephant cow Sambo was owned by the Angkor Elephant Company. The temples of Angkor Wat are among Cambodia’s most famous sights. Tourists like to visit the ancient plant on the back of elephants. Thirteen more elephants are said to be owned by the company tourists have to carry through the temple complex, as the “Phnom Penh Post” writes. Oan Kiri, the manager of the Angkor Elphant Company, told the newspaper that the company was very upset about the elephant’s death.

A few words to this case:

Did anyone believe that the elephant company is really upset about the death of Sambo?
Not me!
Unrestrained businessmen, who use animals as their servants to collect money, do not feel sadness for their slaves if they die.
Such people have no conscience and do not know compassion for animals.
They are looking now for new slaves, and maybe the next Sambo is already ordered.
And visitors who cry, when a tortured animal lying on the street like a filth, don`t need to cry, because crying does not help.
Protesting, fighting, screaming in front of the temple against slavery that never finds an earth … that’s what the visitors have to do.

Ad we all too, everywhere we encounter this slavery.

China: Bear Bile Farming To End In China By 2022 ?

Proposal introduced to end Bear Bile farming in China

From Animals Asia

At the National People’s Congress and the Chinese Peoples Political Consultative Conference meetings in March 2018 (Beijing); a proposal was raised to end bear bile farming in China by 2022 similar to the proposal put forth in Vietnam last year.

7 steps were proposed, including:

  • Banning the breeding of black bears by 2022

  • Banning bear farming by 2022

  • Eliminating everything to do with the bear industry by 2035

  • Speeding up research and approval of synthetic bear bile products

  • Working with international conventions such as CITES to improve the protection level of the black bear.

It is significant that these proposals are being raised at high level gatherings in China.

The fact alone that the motion was allowed to be made public is very encouraging.

Paws crossed that this will progress into actual legislation now.

Russia: Stray Dogs and Football Just Dont Seem To Mix.

Stray dogs and football just don’t seem to get along.

Please have a look at our recent post re stray dogs being killed in Morocco:

https://serbiananimalsvoice.com/2018/04/25/morocco-stray-dogs-are-shot-for-world-cup/

The reason for the shooting of the dogs is an upcoming visit from the FIFA, where the city should deliver a good picture. Namely, Morocco wants the 2026 World Cup to be held in the North African country.  Sadly, stray dogs are seen as a blight on the landscape – so Morocco wants to get rid of them – by shooting.

We have a petition link for Moroccan stray dogs – you can visit it here:

https://www.change.org/p/king-mohammed-vi-help-stray-dogs-cats-living-in-harsh-conditions-from-morocco?recruiter=451614178&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=share_for_starters_page

Unfortunately, Morocco is not the only place where stray dogs and the football elite seem to clash.   The World Cup is being held in Russia this year, 2018.

Russia is planning a mass slaughter of stray dogs ahead of the this year’s World Cup; despite assurances this will not happen, animal rights campaigners claim.

Some £1.4million has been assigned to host cities to pay for deployment of ‘canine KGB’ death squads, according to Ekaterina Dmitrieva, director of the City Animal Protection Foundation.

Animal campaigners are furious that FIFA is turning a blind eye to the ‘butchers’ and refusing to press the Russian government over the ‘scandal’.

Deputy premier Vitaly Mutko – Vladimir Putin’s ex-sports minister mired in controversy over the Russian doping scandal – recently ordered host cities to set up temporary animal shelters for the estimated two million strays in these locations.

But Dmitrieva insisted that that cash has been paid already to pay for armed teams – nicknamed ‘canine KGB hit squads’ – and poisons to wipe out homeless dogs and other animals.

Photo – Daily Mail (UK)

She said: ‘The tenders have been signed, the money is sent to contractors.’

Her demands to switch the cash to sterilising, immunising and caring for the animals has been met with silence, she said.

Is this not typical – Serbia being another – cash which could be spent on sterilising, immunising and caring for the strays in properly run shelters is again being used to simply kill animals.  Governments and authorities appear to miss the fact that you cannot eradicate every stray dog in an area – and those left the cull will reproduce and gradually bring stray numbers back up to what they were before – or even more.  This action by stray death squads does nothing to resolve the long term issue of strays in any location.  It is a simple ‘short term hopeful fix’ by the authorities.  We predict that many strays will be back on the streets within a very short time.  Cities and towns may look squeaky clean whilst those oh so well behaved football fans roam the streets; but shooting strays to clean up any town is a short fix which will not last.  It appears that the Russian authorities, just like the Serbian government; are too thick min the head to understand this.

But then maybe they want the corruption associated with a never ending supply of stray dogs to be killed.  Some people in high places are getting very rich out of a never ending supply of strays which they can kill and claim back money off the government for.  In Serbia for example, just one stray killed can get a government bounty payment of up to 500 Euros  paid directly to regional authorities from government funds.  And the average wage in Serbia ? – about 300 Euros per month.

Big money to be made by some from endless stray dog killing as we have always said.  But the EU, OIE and the rest of the big players just do not really want to listen to us or more importantly, do anything about this corruption that is ‘stray dog control’.
