ACTION: Go to the following Petition link to sign:
Target: Justin Trudeau, Prime Minster of Canada
Goal: Free the activist who gave water to slaughter-bound pigs.
Anita Krajnc faces up to 10 years in prison for giving water to dying pigs. Her kind offerings are the only comfort the pigs receive before they face an inhumane death behind slaughterhouse doors. Urge Prime Minster Justin Trudeau to stand behind Krajnc and encourage the Ontario Court of Justice to drop the charges.
As a co-founder of Toronto Pig Save, Krajnc participates in daily vigils outside of a local slaughterhouse. The area has come to be known as “Pig Island.” Every day, truckloads of pigs pass through these roads on their way to slaughter. They are crammed into a small metal truck bed and exposed to the elements without consideration of their comfort. The pigs are denied food and water during these transports and suffer in the hot sun. On especially hot days, Krajnc gives water to the thirsty pigs. When the Van Boekel Hog Farms’ slaughterhouse truck stopped, Krajnc saw the pigs suffering and took action. Unfortunately, the truck driver did not approve and filed a police report that same afternoon.
Now, Krajnc faces a criminal mischief charge that carries a $5,000 fine and up to 10 years in prison. This is unacceptable. Sign below to demand that Prime Minster Trudeau stand behind this compassionate activist and encourage the dropping of all of her charges.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Prime Minster Trudeau,
Anita Krajnc is facing up to 10 years in prison for her compassionate care of animals. Her only crime is giving water to a truckload of pigs on their way to slaughter. We demand that you stand in support of Krajnc and encourage the Ontario Court of Justice to drop the charges.
Krajnc is a co-founder of Toronto Pig Save. This organization stands vigil outside of slaughterhouses and comforts the animals before they go to their deaths. Pigs arrive in large metal trucks and are exposed to the hot summers and freezing winters. They are not provided with water or food during this journey. If not for Krajnc and her fellow activists, the pigs would be deprived of these small comforts before their inhumane death behind the slaughterhouse doors.
Compassion should not be rewarded with a prison sentence. We demand that you stand behind Anita Krajnc and encourage the Ontario Court of Justice to drop the charges.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]

We have a selection of things here; and have included under one post rather than split into individuals. Some are just news snippets; others petitions etc.

Do the world a huge favour – eat Ant and Dec! – for non UK supporters; they (Ant and Dec) are the alleged hosts of the series !
Animals are being killed, abused and even eaten alive on a popular TV show.
Dear Mark
Last month you took action and called on the Scottish Government to close the loopholes and ban fox hunting for good. Over 2000 people did the same.
Meanwhile the OneKind team lobbied officials and whipped up the public debate online and in the press. Did you see any of the press coverage?
If not check out this fantastic article that appeared in the Herald at the start of the hunting season.
Together, we dialled up the pressure, and the Government had to respond. We’ve been told to expect an announcement by the end of the year of an official review of the Act that was meant to have banned fox hunting. This review will then report its recommendations back to Government after the election in May and we hope it will then lead to new legislation going through Parliament. That means the next Parliament could finally end hunting with dogs for good – not just of foxes, but hares and other mammals too.
This is worth a little celebration. If we hadn’t made our voice heard, we could well have ended up with a superficial review and there would be little hope for a real ban. But it’s also the beginning of a long battle. The hunters will do everything they can to oppose change, but we believe that with the help of people like you, we will win.
Thanks again for helping us to end cruelty to Scotland’s animals.

Today, Respect for Animals director Mark Glover presented our new scientific report, entitled ‘The Case Against Fur Factory Farming: A Scientific Review of Animal Welfare Standards and WelFur’, at the European Parliament in Strasburg.
This report strikes right at the heart of the fur trade’s claims of ‘high animal welfare’ and explicitly exposes the extent of animal suffering that will occur under the ‘WelFur’ programme.
The document is an example of how Respect for Animals take on the fur trade in the most effective ways possible: by campaigning with policy makers and using robust science.
We will be sending copies of it to all officials and politicians in the EU as well as to legislatures of all the member states. Hopefully the report will provide the ever increasing numbers of opponents to fur farming with more ammunition with which to fight and end this callous cruelty in their own countries.
The backlash from the fur trade is likely to be strong, but you can help end this cruel industry by contacting your MEPs (click here to find out how) or by donating to support Respect for Animals’ work.
Please visit our website: www.respectforanimals.co.uk to read the report and find out more.

Urge Z Gallerie to Ditch Down Bedding and Pillows!
Z Gallerie stuffs many of its decorative accent pillows and bedding offerings with down feathers, which often come from birds who either are force-fed for the cruel production of foie gras or are live-plucked.
Force-feeding is a painful process in which birds have tubes rammed down their throats and their stomachs pumped so full of corn mush that their livers swell to as much as 10 times their normal size. Foie gras producers boost their profits by selling the feathers from these force-fed birds.

A Look Inside the Angora Fur Industry
Graphic video footage shown – but a must be seen to see the cruelty involved.

As shoppers and retailers gear up for the busiest shopping time of the year, PETA Asia is unveiling a never-before-seen look into the cruel angora fur industry. The undercover footage reveals routine cruelty to angora rabbits, whose long, soft fur is in high demand for sweaters and accessories.

Update from Pru at Compassion In World Farming (CIWF) regarding the Euro tour of the stop live animal exports tour – remember our post from October:
Over 176,000 Euro citizens signed to stop the trade. The EU has got to listen !
We worked with Pru re the recent live sheep exported from Serbia to Israel – see our post and all the links / photos at:

Dear Mark,
I recently returned from Brussels, where I presented the European Commission with our #CowOnTour petition, signed by 176,062 European citizens. Our simple, united message: Stop live farm animal exports.
Today, I want to share with you the story of #CowOnTour – and urgently call on you to use your voice once again to speak up for Europe’s exported farm animals.
Following the recent tragic events in Paris, to avoid extra pressure on the security services we cancelled our final #CowOnTour event in Brussels. However, thanks to your support, we were still able to secure a face-to-face meeting with the European Commission. They have promised us an official response to the petition, and we will share this with you when we receive it.
We also had an urgent second request for the Commission: Until a live export ban is in place, they must push EU countries not to approve road shipments to Turkey. This trade route is of particular concern because animals can be held at the border for days on end, crammed on trucks in hot, filthy conditions, without adequate rest or water. This is not only cruel, but clearly breaches EU law.
At least 12 member states have been approving exports to Turkey despite knowing that the delays make the journeys illegal.
THANK YOU to everyone who backed the #CowOnTour, and for your ongoing support for the campaign to stop live exports from the EU. Together, we can end this cruelty.
Pru Elliott
Campaign Officer

Urgent action: ask the EU to challenge China on torture
The pressure on China is growing with more than 1,000 signatures in a few days and the UN’s Committee Against Torture due to issue its report on China very soon.
The European Union now has an opportunity to build the pressure even further by challenging China over torture at a crucial meeting on Monday.
Can you help us urge EU officials to highlight torture at the meeting? Time is short because the EU has only just confirmed that its next “EU-China Human Rights Dialogue” will take place on 30 November.
Last week China claimed to the UN that it doesn’t allow torture in Tibet – our research proves that this is far from the truth.
Unfortunately, torture hasn’t been discussed at the dialogue meetings for more than three years: the EU must confront China over torture now.
URGENT ACTION
Please send an email to the head of the European External Action Service (the EU’s “foreign ministry”) to ask her to ensure that torture is high on the agenda for the meeting on 30 November.

Target: Varick Town Supervisor Bob Hayssen
Goal: Protect rare white deer from certain death by purchasing land around the old Seneca Army Depot to utilize as an eco-park.
Hundreds of rare white deer who roam freely at the 7,000-acre Seneca Army Depot in New York could face certain death when the land goes up for sale soon. The white deer have been able to thrive in the area surrounding the abandoned army depot thanks to a fence that has helped protect them from predators.
The Seneca Army Depot has the largest known population of the white deer. If the buyer of the depot land takes down the fence, the deer aren’t expected to survive for long due to predators and hunters.
Many groups are fundraising to buy some of the land to keep as a protected area for the deer and to turn into a tourist attraction, as the deer are a popular attraction among visitors. Bob Aronson, Executive Director of the Seneca County Industrial Development Agency, is selling the land and has made an offer to the town of Varick that they can have the land that falls within their borders for a dollar so long as they market it themselves.
Varick Town Supervisor Bob Hayssen said they are considering the deal and would turn 1,000 acres into an eco-park for the deer. Urge Varick officials to save the rare white deer by taking this deal and turning the land into an eco-park safe haven for the deer.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Town Supervisor Hayssen,
Hundreds of rare white deer that make up the largest known white deer population have been able to thrive within the protected area of the 7,000-acre Seneca Army Depot. If the wrong buyer gets their hands on that land, it could be the end of the white deer there.
These rare deer are awe-inspiring to locals and visitors and deserve a chance to survive and thrive. The deal you have been offered by Bob Aronson would allow the deer to do just that. I urge you to save the rare white deer by taking this deal and turning the land into an eco-park safe haven for the deer.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]

SAV Comment – people of the USA; please think about what some of your politicians have tried / are doing. Introducing ‘Ag Gag’ legislation would stop all evidence such as that in the following video from being obtained. Do you want that ? – should processors that abuse animals be allowed to continue their abuses un monitored by evidence gatherers ? – NO. Then fight to stop ag gag being introduced by some states in the future. The guys who film this are NOT the animals abusers; it is the workers at the facility who are. Fight ag gag in every way that you can – be an animals voice.

This is What Pigs Endure to Become Bacon and Processed Meat
by Alicia Graef
November 14, 2015
“If the USDA is around, they could shut us down”
A disturbing video released this week by Compassion Over Killing (COK) has brought to light the horrifying treatment pigs are subjected to at a slaughterhouse that exclusively supplies Hormel Foods.
An investigator for the organization recorded footage at Quality Pork Processors (QPP), a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) inspected slaughterhouse in Austin, Minn., and uncovered heartbreaking treatment of pigs, in addition to serious issues impacting food safety.
Some of the problems shown in the video include pigs being beaten, shocked and improperly stunned and slaughtered while they’re still conscious, in violation of federal law, pigs who were too weak or sick to walk on their own being beaten and dragged to slaughter and others covered in feces and pus-filled abscesses being slaughtered and processed for food – complete with the USDA’s approval.
Warning: the video below is very graphic.
Problems with the treatment of pigs and other farm animals who are raised and killed for meat have continued to surface through these undercover investigations, but this one in particular is raising serious concerns about a questionable program intended to speed up production and essentially allow facilities to police themselves.
QPP is one of five pork processors in the U.S. that are currently participating in a pilot program that was implemented in the 1990s called the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point-Based Inspection Models Project (HIMP). The program allows for a disastrous combination of faster line speeds at slaughter and lower government oversight.
According to COK, at this particular facility approximately 1,300 pigs are killed each hour to make Hormel pork products, including Spam.
“The abuses we uncovered at Hormel reveal a high-speed slaughter hell for pigs,” said COK’s Executive Director Erica Meier. “Workers are taking inhumane shortcuts to keep the kill lines moving, and with fewer government inspectors on site, this flawed self-inspection system is also jeopardizing food safety.”
COK added in a statement that an audit done by the Office of Inspector General in 2013 had already identified multiple concerns about the HIMP program related to food safety and humane animal handling and that last year several USDA whistleblowers also spoke out about it, yet the USDA has allowed the program to continue unchecked.
Not only has it been allowed to continue, but last year the the USDA’s Food Safety Inspection Service launched a review to see if the program could be expanded.
Unedited footage been given to local authorities and the USDA, which is now investigating.
“The actions depicted in the video under review are completely unacceptable, and if we can verify the video’s authenticity, we will aggressively investigate the case and take appropriate action,” USDA spokesman Adam Tarr told the Washington Post.
Meanwhile, COK is encouraging the USDA to end this dangerous program over concerns about the inhumane treatment of pigs and the risks it poses to food safety. Hopefully the attention this investigation is garnering will not only get this program shut down HIMP, but will help encourage people to stop supporting products that inherently perpetuate this type of abuse.
Take Action!
