Uk (London): The Animals Film – It’s Not About Them, it’s About Us !

unkg00014

It’s not about them…. It’s about us.

For the first time on DVD
the controversial classic film shockingly relevant to today

http://www.theanimalsfilm.com/

Said Alan Brien of THE SUNDAY TIMES (UK) I do not know when I have come out of a screening so moved by the power of the cinema as a medium to transform the entire sensibility of an audience.

“The most impressive film maudit, possibly too hot to handle, is Victor Schonfeld’s The Animals Film, a polemical onslaught, stuffed with footage never before shown, and a wealth of newly-shot material often taken undercover, which documents…mankind’s degradation, exploitation, and often pointless torture, of the creatures who share our planet.

He proves, beyond contradiction, that this behaviour is not just random or personal but part of our organised society, with drug companies, government departments, scientists, military authorities, factory farmers, university research laboratories, for their own selfish ends, for profit in money or prestige.

The pioneering, definitive documentary about the exploitation of animals in modern society, THE ANIMALS FILM was released theatrically and televised internationally to wide acclaim.

On Britain’s Channel 4 network, it was the debut film in the “World Cinema” slot, broadcast on the new network’s 3rd night on-air. Among the film’s many distinctions, it was broadcast uninterrupted by commercial breaks on C4.

For the Swedish TV broadcast, Sweden’s biggest newspaper sat the country’s Minister of Agriculture in front of the TV to give his reactions, and new legislation was put on the agenda.

The film was Pick-of-the-Week & Pick-of-the-Day in all UK national newspapers, and generated extensive front-page news and feature stories in the UK and overseas.

Startling… impeccable… a storm of approval for The Animals Film.
The Guardian (UK)

I do not know when I have been so moved by the power of the cinema as a medium to transform the entire sensibility of an audience.
The Sunday Times (UK)

A deeply affecting and compelling film… the most important and passionate utterance on scenes of suffering and surviving since Peter Watkins made The War Game nearly 20 years ago.
The Australian

Compulsively watchable… The work of an accomplished committed film-maker who knows how to manipulate images and sound.
New Musical Express

The dichotomy between the way we care for animals and the way we exploit and abuse them is explored with shocking vividness…Keating’s photography is stunning… Schonfeld’s narration is muscular…has a haunting poetry.
Hollywood Reporter

The Oregonian

What is shown cannot be denied or, once seen, forgotten. It is truly a film that must make intelligent, sensitive viewers think very seriously about the issues.

A powerful chronicle…it should be seen by people who care about animals and is necessary viewing for those who haven’t really given it much thought…Its images are hard to forget or ignore.
The Arizona Daily Star

Explosive, tough and very special British film.
The Toronto Sun

It’s not about them…. It’s about us.

Dear xxxx,

There’s a good reason why soy milk has gained popularity in recent times. Awareness is growing about the dairy industry’s tragic ‘waste product’—one million discarded newborn calves, slaughtered every year.

The dairy industry would prefer we weren’t aware that cows don’t automatically produce milk. Like all females, cows produce milk for their babies. To maintain high milk production, dairy cows must give birth every year. Newborn calves (called bobby calves) are separated from their distressed mothers so that the milk nature intended for them can be sold to humans. At just five days old, those calves not considered ‘useful’ (mostly males) are sent to be slaughtered. Bewildered baby calves are not easily moved and are therefore prodded, pushed and even thrown by frustrated handlers. Many are denied food for up to 36 hours, and every year thousands of neglected calves die on trucks and in pens—before they reach the slaughterhouse.

Animals Australia advocated important basic reforms in a recent review of Australia’s Land Transport of Livestock Standards and Guidelines. Incredibly Dairy Australia and other industry representatives refused to agree to limiting the distance that calves are transported, or even to feeding them if held overnight at the abattoir.

As a result, the proposed new Standards drafted by Animal Health Australia do not include these reforms, and will sentence millions more bobby calves to a harrowing fate.

State Agriculture Ministers will vote on these new standards in April. Please demand that they include the reforms proposed by animal welfare experts.

Their behaviour is not illegal. There’s no animal protection law in China and that’s what we’ve been working on as hardest as we can for the past years.

Hi, this is Danielle from Sunflower Human Society Beijing.

A few words about the picture of the suffering dog:

It’s a seriously abused stray dog who’s in heaven now.

A volunteer found him in Foshan, Guangdong province.

His two eyeballs were digged out and his genitals cut off.

The volunteer sent him to the vet.

Many people couldn’t stop crying when they saw his wounds everywhere.

They finally agreed to put him into sleep to end his suffering.
However, even if they found him/her, what they can do about him/her other than cursing him/her?

Volunteers have been searching the information about the murderer online.

There are similar tragedies happening everywhere

Thanks so much for your care, support and help to the Chinese animals.

Let's pray things will be improving gradually through our joint continuous efforts.

We-friends and voices of the animals here-will do our very best for our furry friends.

Subject: A loving home for my Dog, Maximus

Dear Rishi,

A friend of mine is looking for a home for her 3 year old Dog, Maximus, as she is not able to keep him due to circumstances beyond her control.

I am attaching a write up (by her), which is pretty moving. I do hope you can help.

Both of us would be eternally grateful.

Warm Regards

My dog’s name is Maximus – but he responds to Max, Dubsimus, Poopaditoes …

Max is a unique character – a law unto himself! His life is simple – the people he loves are god to him and he knows how to assert himself – not for him the occasional pat on the head – when he wants to be petted, he will walk over to you, put his head on your knee and force you to acknowledge him and pay attention to him!!

I got him from a pet shelter three years back – a tiny, scraggly , insecure and scared little puppy – I was told he needed extra love and attention – more so because he had been rejected a few times as he was not a pure bred – well, I did get him but he was anything but scared and insecure! He is a very lively and frisky dog – jumps and runs around the entire day. Not an aggressive dog, Max is very loving and makes friends easily.

The little one had his clear likes and dislikes which he started to assert within a few days of arriving. It breaks my heart to think I have to give him up however, he deserves better than I am able to provide right now.

A very loving and affectionate dog, Max needs to belong to a family that genuinely loves pets for their devotion and loyalty. Due to some personal reasons I am no longer able to provide Max the home he was part of and am looking for a family for him that genuinely feels for animals and will love him and judge him on the basis of his breed (or lack of it ) J

Max has been a guardian angel and also my best friend – watching over me when I was low and not judging me inspite of the low’s – constant in his love and devotion and always lighting up in my presence.

In case Max is not the dog you are looking to add to your family, if you are animal lover, I am sure you will find time to help me look for a home for him. A new home that is waiting for him, just as Max is waiting to belong to his new family.

Thank you J

Warm regards,

Maalini

PLEASE FORWARD URGENTLY …………………..

 ‘Lance’ – Brindle Greyhound ……………….

This gorgeous boy is ‘Lance’ who has the most fantastic temperament – a real big softy, and for the past 4 years he has shared his life with 3 cats, 2 birds, and a baby who is now 5 years old.

Due to a marriage break up, and the ex-husband being out at work all day, and the ex-wife’s land-lord not permitting dogs – ‘Lance’ is desperately looking for either a foster home or permanent home.

He was rescued by us when he was 5 years old – a sad, thin, unwanted ex-racer, kept mostly out in a garden after being off loaded (on at least two accounts) to a ‘new owner’, who then didn’t have time for him.

This 9 year old gentle laid back boy, who thought he had found his forever home, is in need again, due to him losing his family…………….

At present, Lance is being fostered in a home with two children aged three and six.

Please contact Action for Greyhounds as above DIRECT – if you can offer a permanent home to ‘Lance’, who needs to be homed in the Norfolk/Suffolk area.

Thank you.

India: Two Dogs Requiring Adoption

inda00015

———- Forwarded message ———-
From: abhishek bhowmick <
Dear Nilesh/Rishi,

I am attaching pictures of this cute lilttle fella for adoption… Yesterday morning (Saturday 14th March) somebody abandoned this cute little puppy near my locality. All the dogs were attacking her and somehow she was rescued by the watchman of the building. It would be really great if she finds a home.

mum1

mum2

She is a cross breed female around 3 months of age… She will be vaccinnated and do-wormed before somebody comes down to adopt her and give her a home. She is healthy and has a very peculiar face somewhat like a boxer with a big big big head… As of now she is being taken care by an animal lover in my neighboring territory, but she is still on the streets.

It will be a big favour if you guys spread this message far and wide… Interested people can call me on the number below.
