Subject: Tony Moore co-founder of Fight Against Animal Cruelty in Europe (FAACE) died last Friday from lung cancer, aged 79

We are terribly saddened to learn that Tony Moore – co-founder of Fight Against Animal Cruelty in Europe (FAACE) – died last Friday from lung cancer, aged 79.

For over 25 years, Tony – together with his wife Vicki, who tragically died from injuries sustained whilst filming undercover in 2000 – campaigned against bullfights and fiestas and in 1996 ADI awarded Tony and Vicki the Lord Houghton Award for outstanding service to animal welfare to acknowledge their pioneering work in this area (see http://bit.ly/1gqrR44).

Our thoughts are with Tony’s family.

The animals have lost a dear friend.

SAV Comment – we always remember the terrible death of Vicki from injuries sustained whilst filming undercover to help bulls suffering in Spanish fiestas.  The world and the animals have also lost a great campaigner in Tony.  Thank you for all your hard work and dedication Tony – you will be very much missed, but now reunited with your beloved Vicki.  Two massive animal champions.

Vicki

In June 1995, whilst videoing ‘undercover’, in the village of Coria, Spain, Vicki was gored by a bull. She was tossed into the air 10 times, gored 11 times in the chest, back, groin and legs. She also suffered a punctured lung, 8 badly smashed ribs and the loss of a kidney.

Vicki’s life was saved in a seven-hour operation. She was in a coma for three weeks and spent five and a half weeks in intensive care. She struggled for years with the legacy of her injuries, but preferred not to talk about her daily plight, for fear it would detract from that of the animals she championed.

Vicki underwent numerous operations but eventually died of complications on February 6th 2000.
