Canada: How Just 1,000 Hunters Can Make The World Hate An Entire Nation.

The shame that is Canada in 60 seconds.  –  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRRu9SRIcXU

Ten years ago, sealers killed about 350,000 seals, but last year, that number dropped to 35,000—the lowest  in 20 years.

Fewer than 1,000 sealers have participated in the slaughter in recent years.

can2

Because of a lack of markets for seal products, the slaughter is costing Canada millions more to support than it earns, and seal fur processors admit that they are stockpiling pelts because they can’t sell them.

can3

Still, tens of thousands of seals are expected to be killed in the coming weeks.

Canada’s new prime minister, Justin Trudeau, supports many progressive social issues, and now we’re urging him to extend his compassion further and begin a new era of kindness and financial responsibility by ending federal subsidies of the commercial seal slaughter.

can4

Even if you have spoken up for seals before, please send a message to Prime Minister Trudeau.

Let him know that the power to stop this atrocity is in his hands …

… and that the world is ready for Canada to stop slaughtering baby seals!

can5

The U.S., the European Union, and Russia have all already banned seal-fur imports.

Serbia: Take Action With Letter To Serbian And EU Politicians Regarding Illegal (Non Lawful) Actions Of Serbian Dogcatchers.

Serbian Flag

Pozega january 1

IMPORTANT – Please ensure that you copy and send BOTH the Serbian and then the English OR German versions of the letter in your e mail.

The Serbian copy will put pressure on, and ensure the Serbians are left in no doubt as to the situation; and that the EU is being informed of their actions.  Remember that Serbia is an EU ‘Candidate Country’ and very much wishes to join the EU.  But if it does not follow it own rules / laws, (the EU requirement of the ‘rule of law’); then it should never be allowed to become an EU member.

All the Serbian e mail addresses to which the letters should be sent are given in the first list.  EU listings are then supplied.

Please copy them all and paste into one e mail, along with the Serbian and English / German copy of the letter.

This can also be done by NON EU citizens; you could declare your name and nationality at the end – thank you.

– English Text (for EU Parliament)

To whom it might concern,

We strongly condemn  JKP “ Naš Dom” Pozega  for their behavior  in terms of treatment of abandoned animals. The Animal Welfare Act in Serbia clearly stipulates that abandoned animals cannot be killed except in exceptional circumstances, but must be housed and cared for in the shelters, yet we learned that JKP “ Naš Dom” is  planning to kill 90% of the dogs that  they catch in 2016.

On the news tonight (16.03.2016 ),  on the TV station  B92, JKP “ Naš Dom”  admitted that in year  2015  out of 1350  captured dogs,  1280 were killed!

We are outraged and appalled by such disrespect of the current law by an institution  JKP “ Naš Dom”  which is governed by the state! This institution,  clearly  feels they’re above the law!  We will be notifying all competent authorities in the EU and beyond and will be looking into taking measures to prevent future illegal slaughter of animals in Serbia.

We also must add that we are aware of current lynch on street dogs in Nis which is almost announced publicly as form of revenge for the attack  carried out on an elderly woman by a pack of dogs. We are also aware of all the unlawful poisonings and killings of animals which are happening in Serbia  because the  institutions governed by the state assigned to deal with the problem   are not following the laws and therefore are failing to deal with the problem  as well as not dealing with irresponsible owners  who abandon their  animals and are part of the problem.

So far we have pointed out how to humanely solve the problem of abandoned animals and for us it is devastating that  Serbia does not actually apply these measures. Measures, which are prescribed by the Law.

Letter to copy and attach as part of e mail – German / Deutscher Text

Romania: Love To Animals Education Programme Starts – EDUXANIMA.

RMNA0001

Please note – We are showing the photogaphs only once rather than repeating them in both the English and German texts.

????????????????????????????????????

????????????????????????????????????

As a joint venue of  National Federation for Animal Protection (FNPA) and Primary School “Lexford Castle”,  the initial event of the EDUXANIMA program took  place on 4 April in PITESTI, Romania.

EDUXANIMA is a complex concept that brings together a series of programs and informal events encouraging communication and social responsibility concerning the harmonious relationship between humans and animals

EDUXANIMA’S GOAL is to promote social responsibility, to educate, and to naturally lead both children and adults to an ethical and healthy lifestyle.

Ms. ANDRA ARSENE, EDUXANIMA Program Director and  EDUXANIMA’s promoter and developer, who also moderated the event, said that “…the beneficial results of Eduxanima programs are twofold, affecting both people and animals. For children they contribute to their harmonious development, and for adults they develop a healthy and ethical way of life and thinking.”

The first part in the series of EDUXANIMA  programs is an educational program that addresses school-age children and that will first be held in schools in Arges County. It is based on the partnership agreement between the National Federation for Animal Protection (FNPA), Arges County Council, Arges County School Inspectorate, and the Primary School “Lexford Castle” – the first school that will implement the education program EDUXANIMA.

The educational program that will be carried out in schools includes presentation, reading, and discussion of the brochure “Let’s Love Animals”, written and donated by the organization PETA to the schools which will run the EDUXANIMA program. Further, it will entail stories, discussions, debates, thematic competitions, and visits to animal shelters – all of which will help the children  to understand, respect, and protect animals.

????????????????????????????????????

????????????????????????????????????

Along with the EVENT ORGANIZERS: Andra ARSENE – Eduxanima Program Director, Carmen ARSENE – President of the National Federation for Animal Protection (FNPA), and Catalin GHERZAN – Manager of Lexford Castle School,

there were also  present: Florin TECAU – President  Arges County Council and Prof. Mihaela CRISAN – Arges County School Inspectorate.

The following SPECIAL GUESTS attended the event:

car9

n  Her Highness Princess MAJA von HOHENZOLLERN (photo above)

n  Sylvie BUNZ, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)

n  Maestro Gheorghe  ZAMFIR

n  Anette KRAMME, State Secretary, Member of the German Parliament

n  Ute VOGT, Member of the German Parliament

n  Thomas SCHRÖDER, President, Deutscher Tierschutzbund e.V.

Princess MAJA von HOHENZOLLERN, one of the world’s best known activists who campaigns for animal rights, said that “…today is a great day for animals and children in Romania. Introducing animal welfare program EDUXANIMA is a milestone for me”… “given the context, it is noteworthy how peaceful animals are; animals do not have wars, do not commit terrorist attacks, do not do crimes of greed, they are not corrupt “

SYLVIE BUNZ, representative of the largest animal rights organization in the world, PETA, did a presentation on the work of the organization, especially of PETA Kids (educational programs for children): “Teaching animal protection to the young”. Ms Bunz informed the audience that PETA’s motto, which is the principle that we all should live by, is:  “Don’t do to others what you would  not like do be done to yourself”, and this refers to everything: humans, nature, animals.

car5

Maestro GHEORGHE ZAMFIR, virtuoso naist (Romanian pan flute) and Romanian composer, with a prestigious musical career worldwide, shared the pain he feels at the sight of the degrading relationship between man and nature. In his specific manner, with pathos and poetry, he speaks about the feelings which arise when interpreting his songs containing purity trills.

Representatives of the German delegation, ANETTE KRAMME and UTE VOGT, members of the German Parliament, responded to the fact that Germany still has issues with animal welfare. This referred mainly to the rules that apply to animals of economic interest in intensive livestock farming. It was mentioned that Germany was among the first countries that have implemented educational programs for animal protection.

car6

THOMAS SCHRÖDER, President of Deutscher Tierschutzbund e.V., Germany, emphasized the importance of educational programs in the empathetic development of children in order to guarantee a harmonious relationship between humans and animals.

“In the educational process, beginning with the early years, we learn from our parents and educators that we are the more evolved and civilized beings of the animal kingdom. We learn that, within the relationships between humans, we need to respect others’ needs and life, to help and empathize with those who are suffering. But this education process is incomplete. It will be fully accomplished only when we learn to relate to all living beings as though they have the same natural rights for respect and dignity as we humans have. These rights don’t have to be granted, they already exist, but we must admit this!”  Such were the closing words of the director of EDUXANIMA, ANDRA ARSENE.

Continuing the initial event, there were visits to the pilot school and another school in Pitesti, where dozens of children were waiting for us and gathered with the schools’ directors, teachers, and professors, along with the event organizers and the director of EDUXANIMA. The children had the first meeting with EDUXANIMA program, and they responded with great enthusiasm. They received their PETA brochures, “Let’s love animals,” themed pins, as well as autographs on photographs of the Princess. During the visit, a special badge was decorated with the message “I love all animals” and presented to Mr. Florin Tecau, President of Arges County Council!

The event was full of beautiful messages that give you hope that certainly our future someday will be one in perfect communion with nature and that, as Prof. Mihaela Crisan, Deputy General School Inspector, concluded: “…education in the second decade of the third millennium means to be an active part of our environment, to respect the right to live!

EDUXANIMA Programm — Verhaltnis zwischen Menschen und Tieren

mit Ehrengästen in PITESTI begonnen:

Ihre Hoheit Prinzessin Maja von Hohenzollern

Die Organisation P E T A

Maestro Gheorghe ZAMFIR

Deutschen Tierschutzbunds e.V

Deutsch MPs

April in PITESTI, Rumänien, statt.

n  Sylvie BUNZ, PETA  (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)

n  Maestro Gheorghe ZAMFIR

Vielen Dank an alle Beteiligten!

Alles gute,

Carmen ARSENE

A dog shelter regularly referred to as a “concentration camp for dogs” by animal rights activists is operating in the town of Pozega, Serbia.

The JKP Nas Dom dog pound is responsible for bringing in stray dogs from Pozega’s streets. However, the pound is notorious for its cruelty to the dogs incarcerated there—neglect, beatings, starvation and murder are regular occurrences.

Sign this petition to pressure local authorities to close down this kill shelter and save hundreds, if not thousands, of stray dogs from horrific suffering.

Groups are working to promote adoption of animals in the JKP Nas Dom pound, but funds are running low and adoption needs to be outsourced to other European countries, as adopters cannot be found in Serbia alone. In the meantime, the horrific stories of barbarism are enough to warrant an order to close the facility.

Animal rights activists have witnessed accounts of dogs that are so weak and emaciated that they no longer react to the terrible beatings they are given. They have also seen a mother of pups watching her young die on the cold, hard ground while the pups that still live eat the remains of their siblings just to stay alive. Dogs are starved before they are killed, sometimes by lethal injection without sedation or often by beating and strangulation.

The horror stories coming from this facility are almost beyond belief. We need to pressure local authorities to close JKP Nas Dom down and find better ways to control the stray population.

Sign this petition to save countless more dogs from miserable lives of torture and death.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Mićović,

I was outraged to learn of the cruel abuse taking place at the JKP Nas Dom dog pound in Pozega. Horrific stories have been written of the facility’s practices: dogs so starved and weak that they no longer react to awful beatings, mothers forced to watch as their pups die and be eaten by the surviving litter, and dogs being beaten and strangled to death.

Although some groups are trying to save these animals by promoting their adoption, funds have ceased and now the stray dogs are forced to live through torture and misery in the JKP Nas Dom pound. There is no reason that dogs should be treated in this way. The stray dog problem in Serbia can be solved by spaying and neutering to ensure that the stray population does not grow.

This horrific facility needs to be closed down. The terrible suffering of these stray dogs cannot be measured by any of our standards. Stories so appalling that they seem unbelievable are common from JKP Nas Dom, but we cannot let the suffering of these animals continue.

Please allow these stray dogs to find homes with loving owners. Stop the torture and death in the animal concentration camp that is JKP Nas Dom, and finally close this cruel facility.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

England: Further Update Turkish Live Exports – 6/4/16.

England

Yesterday, 5/4/16, was hopefully a productive day in the campaign regarding live animal exports.

In the morning, Mark telephoned Mr. Marco Valletta at the EU DG (Commission) for Health and Food Safety.  Mr. Valletta is directly responsible at the Commission as part of Commissioener Vyetenis Andriiukaitis’ team with responsibilities which directly include animal health and animal welfare.  Please note that Commissioner Vyetenis Andriiukaitis is one of two people who we have addressed our petition to – see more at: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/763/168/053/eu-commissioners-fail-live-animals-transported-to-turkey./?taf_id=22743166&cid=email_na

In a parallel exercise, Lesley at ‘Eyes on Animals’ in Amsterdam (NL) had a meeting with the Dutch authorities as well as the EoA inspection team.  It should be remembered and hoped that the Dutch have very strong views about the current failures of EU live animal transport laws, and that we hope that during the Dutch EU Presidency which lasts until the end of June, they will make major progress with being able to change the system.  Please read more about this from one of our past posts –  https://serbiananimalsvoice.com/2016/01/23/netherlands-some-great-news-the-dutch-presidency-pleads-for-eu-action-for-animals/

Mark and Mr. Valletta had a good conversation, with Mark expressing his concerns especially about the situation for EU animals being exported live to Turkey.  He informed Mr. Valletta about all the evidence which was included in the excellent EoA video  – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udReHkAumrY&feature=youtu.be    and was very surprised to hear back that Mr. Valletta had not actually seen the video !! – and this is the man at the EU Commission ultimately responsible for the welfare of animals !!

We know from Lesley that copies of the video were supplied to the Commission – why it was not seen by the man directly responsible for animal health and welfare in the Commission is anyone’s guess.

Mark sent a mail to Mr. Valletta in the afternoon which included both video and petition links for Mr. Valletta.  You can read a copy of Marks mail here –

Marco Valletta letter EU Tuurkey – SAV Copy

Lesley at EoA has been putting out some excellent articles and PR’s regarding the Turkish live exports situation.  You can see one here which is linked directly from the EoA website –  http://www.eyesonanimals.com/stop-tolerating-systematic-violations-international-law-exporting-livestock-third-countries/

Mark and Lesley communicated in the evening and it was decided that a formal copy of the EoA Turkish video should be sent specifically and directly to Mr. Valletta.  Not only will this allow him to see the cruel reality of the situation for EU animals exported live to Turkey, but it may provide Lesley with assistance when she next meets the Dutch authorities on this issue.

As Mark said to Mr. Valletta in their phone conversation, and as written in his mail to same; the individual EU member states firstly hold immediate responsibility for the enforcement of EU Regulation 1/2005 which should provide protection to animals in transport; but at the end of the day, it is the EU Commission who are ‘top of the pyramid’ and who should be prosecuting individual member states when they fail.  And as shown the video, they fail a lot !

This is where Mr. Valletta should come in as the official rep of the EU Commission.  Mark reminded him in conversation that he has animal welfare duties to enforce, and that we want to see something positive being done about the Turkish situation.  Mr. Valletta watching the video from EoA would be a very good first move !

We are now waiting to hear back from Mr. Valletta when he has seen the video and also had a review of the petition; which we have reminded him, has been signed by citizens of all EU member states.

Regards Mark.

England: Response From EU Regarding Turkish Live Export Petition.

England

12744545_977539955661829_4459847422047845705_n

1/4/16 – We have today had a letter from the EU informing us that our petition associated with EU live animal exports to Turkey has now been registered / entered onto the general register for petitions.  It has also been forwarded to the Committee on Petitions, who will ‘decide if it comes within the EU fields of activity’.  As the issue involves live EU animals being exported from the EU, we very much hope and trust that the petition WILL be considered as coming within the EU’s fields of activity.

The petition remains open, and we ask that everyone helps us by getting as many people to sign as they possibly can.

The associated video link, and the petition link are provided below.  In addition, you can see a copy of the letter sent to us today from the EU, explaining the current situation.

Thanks for your help and support on this very important animal welfare issue.

Mark.

Something eerily like this has not been seen for a long time!

So many endangered stray dogs have passed through the ´´Beban´´, most of them are successfully recovered thanks to the good people who had helped them. njima.

Nevertheless what was seen last week transcends all boundaries of humanity! After alerting images of a half alive dog wandering streets of Bor, and thanks to the few good people who had kept a dog and called the members of ´´Beban´´, poor baby was urgently taken to the vet who also confirmed that something like this, so sad and miserable had not seen in his whole life!

ap 31 5

Poor dog was counting the minutes of her life:(((((((((((((((
It is an older female, malnourished, living skeleton with wounds on her body and one eye that has already been affected by gangrene. Every time we touched her she moaned, barely standing on her feet, frightened and distrustful.

She received adequate therapy, an eye surgery will be done if she recovers a bit, in this condition she would not survive operation. We pray for her, to overcome this and move on, monitoring her status from hour to sat. Currently she is on home treatment.
We beg all of you who follow her story from day one and who care about MOLY (dog´s name) to help ´´Beban´´ to pay the costs of her treatment!
