You will be happy to know that Karan, the blind Lab featured on this site has a home now. Please show the same generosity to Gudiya, a blind and deaf Great Dane, who is the most gentle soul on earth. With an impeccable sense of smell, she always knows when someone is around. Since she cannot hear, she does not bark much either, and generally snuffles when she is happy.

At the moment she is at Mrs Gandhi’s house, but facing the same problems Karan did – She gets bullied by all the other dogs.

Gudiya is around 2 years old, sterilized and quite healthy now. She is small by Great Dane standards, which is probably because she was undernourished as a pup. PFA found her in a gutter.

Can You Provide Information to Help Animals in Serbia ?

Dear friends of animals!

 

It is intended to lodge a request for the establishment of animal rights at the Serbian Parliament and therefore we need to bring forward results of any scientific research that has proven those abilities of animals that are commonly ascribed to humans (intelligence, causally-consequent thinking, ability of self-awareness, intellectual and moral activity, mathematical abilities and similar). This is required to argue the need of the recognition of animal rights.  

 

So if you have any scientific research or links to data about animals then please send it/them to us.

PLEASE GIVE SUPPORT TO JELENA’S SHELTER NOW – Thank You

We are asking please if you can immediately give your financial support to Jelena who runs a No Kill shelter in Serbia.

 

Jelena’s shelter now has over 400 dogs in its care.  Last week, ten dogs were taken away from the local pound back to the shelter, whilst several others were rescued from the streets.  As many female (Bitch) dogs were taken as possible, because when the bitches are un-sterilised and when ‘in heat’, they naturally attract the attention of many male dogs; the results of these meetings being many, many more dogs being born onto the streets destined for capture, suffering in pounds and eventual killing by the local authorities and government policies. 

Some of the dogs taken last week from the Pound, now safe at Jelena’s shelter.

Many of the dogs which end up at the pound are not complete ‘strays’, but are dogs which are owned, but who have irresponsible owners who do not bother to have their animals sterilised, who simply do not care about what their animals do and simply turn them out onto the street every day to produce more animals which add to the population problem.

If their dogs are captured by the authorities and taken to the pound, then quite often the owners will not bother to go to the pound to recover their animals.  These animals regularly end up being killed as a result of the current no sense policies which the government and authorities have towards animal population controls.

By rescuing some animals from the pounds, Jelena’s shelter provides a safe haven and a place of regular food and loving for the very lucky animals that are fortunate enough to go there.  The shelter is a PLACE OF LIFE as opposed to the authorities pounds – places of death !!

But the shelter cannot exist on good will alone;

FINANCE IS REQUESTED FROM YOU please to provide daily help to the animals in the way of food, a sterilisation programme and the construction of additional enclosures for the rescued animals.  For example, over 250 loaves of bread have to be purchased daily to be mixed with other food which is being provided as a regular diet to the dogs at the shelter.

 

PLEASE, PLEASE give a donation or regular support to Jelena’s shelter NOW.

 

The following statement sums up the irresponsible attitude and thinking of the Serbian government and the regional / local authorities:

 

“While  the local government  gave 5 million dinars  for  killing of strays  for this year,   we  got  20,000 dinars from  Medijana  Borough  to pay  the bread  bill and 24,000 dinars from  Palilula Borough  to  neuter a few females”.

Minister Does Nothing to Promote Responsible Ownership / Sterilisation Legislation for Serbian Dogs and Cats

The photographs show the Minister of Agriculture; Sasha Dragin, and the Director of the Veterinary department, visiting the no kill dog shelter ‘RISKA’ of help Animals on Monday 1st September.

 

On this day, in front of both television, other media and press, both declared that through to the end of September, the Serbian Parliament will check the new laws associated with the law for Animal Welfare.

 

 

 

This has been seen by everyone except the government as just propaganda to give the tv and media with a story – a story which has no substance.  The legislation which is being spoken about will:

 

·        Still allow Shinters and veterinarians to do the legal mass killing of stray dogs and cats after a 30 day period

·        Ritual and religious slaughter will still be legal

·        Hunting will be allowed to continue, unregulated in any way

 

All the words to the press and media mean nothing except, that very soon, the government will be introducing laws which will allow the continued suffering of, or even improve on, the suffering of animals.

 

WHERE IS THE EU ?– WHY DOES IT NOT ACT instead of hiding behind the curtains ? – Serbia is going to gain EU accession !

To the press and the tv and the media, NOTHING WAS SAID about legislation being introduced regarding the sterilisation of animals such as owned dogs and cats.  Irresponsible owners, who do not have their animals sterilised, and who turn them out onto the street each and every day, to make many new baby dogs and cats to add to the current problems of unwanted animals, are not being made to be responsible by this new national legislation in any way.

 

SASHA DRAGIN HAS FAILED WITH THE LEGISLATION.

 

By not introducing compulsory sterilisation of all owned animals, more and more animals will continue to be born from the NON STERILISED BUT OWNED ROAMING animals as the welfare organisations have always said, and given data to the government to show this;  see  https://serbiananimalsvoice.wordpress.com/category/letters/

increasing a problem rather than decreasing the problem.  Sasha Dragin is now making sure that the shinters and the ‘pest’ control companies have legislation behind them which will allow them endless animal killing rather than getting to the real cause of the stray problem – they fail to introduce legislation to have animals sterilised by owners.

 

If Serbian taxpayers want to continue paying taxes for the killing of animals, when their money could be used to improve schools, hospitals, social services etc if a sterilisation policy was introduced, then it is the people of Serbia who must complain about it. 

 

No Sterilisation = never ending taxes continually going into killing animals. 

 

Sterilisation = a reduction in animal numbers over time = more tax payers money available for other causes = more money into schools and hospitals etc.

 

The proposals made by Sasha Dragin means legal approval has been given by the government for the mass killing of animals, whilst doing nothing to actually aim to reduce the numbers of roaming animals on the streets.

 

Does the government really want to see a reduction in animal numbers ?, or does it want to continue taking Serbian taxpayers money for a mass kill policy which is not going to ever reduce animal numbers ?

Sarah Palin is Cruella de Ville

As Alaska’s governor in 2007, Sarah Palin declared open hunting season on Alaskan wolves, offering a $150 bounty for each animal killed. This program drew cries of outrage from animal rights groups.
Palin, pictured below on the sofa in her office, enjoys hunting. The wolf kill is designed to increase the population of moose and caribou for sport hunters.
 
 

The problem is Palin allowed one of the worst kinds of wolf slaughter there is — aerial hunting, something even sport hunters believe is barbaric:

Aerial hunting of wolves is akin to the medieval demonization of wolves. A wolf howling at night is symbolic of wilderness. Killing an alpha wolf can disorganize an entire pack. I used to be a hunter, but I¹m completely against the aerial hunting of wolves.²

For your information I am attaching a few recent pics of the killings that happened there. I have a full uncensored video of the killing alos, which is beyond anyone’s imagination. Kerala is certainly a state full of killers. the local people alos have no compassion.

This is Avis Lyons founder of Animal Rescue Kerala:
The killing in Kerala still goes on .
On 4th Sept 08 our case against the Trivandrum Corporation (the council of the nearby city of Trivandrum)  comes up in the Munsiff court in Trivandrum.  It has been adjourned many, many times without us being able to get a stay order, so the killing goes on and on.
 
The dogs are picked up and held for hours and hours crushed together in the goverment rick shaw in temperatures of up to 40 degrees centigrade until they are taken off and killed.  I have this on very reliable information from someone who has seen the dogs in the rickshaw in Trivandrum, including dogs with collars and puppies.
 
I have seen the goverment rickshaw pass but am unable to do anything about the situation as I am out on bail for trying to get help to stop the dogs being picked up to be killed in my Memo of Understanding area.
 
On Sept 4Th last year 2007) Trivandrum Corporation said in the high court in Cochin that it was doing the ABC/AR programme (animal birth control/anti rabies), the case was taken in 2004 by a resident of Trivandrum, the lady who took the case was too nervous to take the case back to court for contempt and has signed a affidavit handing the proceedings over to our advocate.
 
A prominent citizen of Trivandrum has put in a Right to Information request to the corporation.  Also, we have a lot of evidence that the corporation is killing.
 
By rights we should win the case!!!
